  • PDP chieftain, lawmaker console Tribune

Former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Moruf Akinwande, and the lawmaker representing the Atiba State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Ganiyu Waliu Adekunle, have commiserated with the African Newspaper of Nigeria Plc, publishers of Tribune titles, over the death of the surviving son of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Resolution Oluwole Awolowo.

Alhaji Akinwande, who represented Oyo Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2007 and now chairs Federal Capital Territory Secondary Education Board (FCT-SEB), Abuja, said “the death is painful, especially as the deceased mother, Chief H.I.D Awolowo, is still alive.”

Hon. Waliu, who said though every human soul would taste death, prayed for the repose of the deceased soul, adding that the late Oluwole died at the time the nation needed his service.

The duo urged the family to take heart and continue from where the deceased stopped, adding that adequate care must be given to Mama and the deceased family.

  • PDP chieftain, two robbers killed

The police in Niger State are to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing of Alhaji Azi Magama-Daji, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Magama Local Government by armed robbers, who invaded his home at Magama Daji village on Sunday night.

They are also to investigate the death of two members of the armed gang, who were believed to have been shot in the attack.

The Nation learnt that the robbers stormed Azi’s home late on Sunday and forced their way into his bedroom.

A member of the deceased’s family, who spoke in confidence, said as soon as the bandits entered his room, an argument ensued.

Our source said the argument took a new turn when the robbers threatened to kill Azi.

According to him, “after the initial argument between Azi and his attackers, the next we heard were gunshots and we hid in our rooms for fear of being killed. It was after the shootout that we saw Azi in a pool of his blood. We later discovered two bodies of the members of the gang.”

It was further gathered that other members of the gang fled as villagers mobilised for a counter attack.

The incident took another dimension when the villagers discovered that members of the gang were from the village. This led to a revenge on the wife and children of the head of the gang, who are seeking refuge at the village’s police post.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman Pius Edobor said investigation into the matter has begun.

“A PDP chieftain was killed and two of his attackers were also suspected to have been killed.”

He also confirmed that the family of the leader of the alleged leader of the bandits is in police custody to prevent a reprisal.
