  • Five injured, 10 vehicles vandalized as PDP thugs attacks Ambode’s campaign team

Five injured, 10 vehicles vandalized as PDP thugs attacks Ambode’s campaign team

Pandemonium broke out  yesterday in Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, when  supporters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Lagos West, Mr Segun Adewale allegedly attacked members of an independent campaign team of All Progressives’ Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

No fewer than ten vehicles were said to have been vandalised during the attack while one person was allegedly killed and five others wounded.

Two of the victims are said to be lying critically ill in a private hospital as a result of the injuries sustained during the attack.

It was gathered that supporters of the APC governorship candidate were distributing sourvenirs to residents during a neighbourhood to neighbourhood campaign rally when the PDP members who were passing by in their vehicles suddenly confronted them and started shooting sporadically.

A resident who was holding one of the APC sourvenirs was said to have been shot dead while panicky residents run for their dear life.

An impeccable source who spoke in confidence said: “The APC members had embarked on a peaceful rally to solicit support for their candidates in the coming election when they were attacked by PDP supporters who were also passing by.As a matter of fact, the PDP supporters who were heading towards Iyana Ipaja in their vehicles suddenly turned back and ran after the APC supporters.

“Before we knew what was happening, the PDP thugs opened fire on the APC campaigners leading to the death of an innocent resident while about five persons were injured; two of the victims are now in critical condition. Ten vehicles were vandalized while those injured have been taken to a hospital.”

One of Adewale’s aides, Mr Tosin Odunsi, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the APC supporters actually ignited the confrontation before Adewale’s supporters retaliated.

“I was at the scene of the incident and no life was lost. We were actually returning from a campaign rally organized for our governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje, when we ran into some APC supporters at Boys Town area of Mosan Okunola and they were making a mockery of our party. My boss (Adewale) who was riding in one of the vehicles in our convoy asked us not to confront the APC supporters. However, our supporters retaliated when the APC supporters started shooting sporadically. So, our people did not attack APC members but we retaliated in self-defence. If you must know, our campaign office in Iyana Ipaja was destroyed by APC supporters about two days ago.

  • PDP loses 30,000 members to APC in Sokoto

PDP loses 30,000 members to APC in Sokoto

About 30,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) yesterday defected to the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Sokoto state.

Speaking at a reception for the new members,  Governor Aliyu Wamakko  said it was an indication that the party’s manifesto driven by a purposeful leadership had what Nigerians and Sokoto people desire.

“The wind of change is a wind for victory for those who wish the state and country well.

“Infact, I will not be surprised this is coming a day after our presidential campaign rally took place on our soil here in Sokoto”, he said.

Wamakko further said: “The APC has come to stay, and this is a signal to the opposition that our party is determined and moving from strength to strength.

“Today, we have almost all the political allies of former governor  Bafarawa in our fold. It is enough to give our opponents an indication of good omen coming our way.”

Wamakko urged the people of the state not to be destracted from their focus for the APC which is hopeful of clinching all elective positions in the state.

Also a chieftain of the party, Alhaji Umaru Kawabo,  said there was no alternative to change, saying “that the APC has all that is needed to win elections. This is the begining of the series of expected defections into the party”, he mentioned.

A Sokoto community leader and APC active member, Mr. Okoro, said he was convinced that the wind of change was imminent and the solutions to the problems of Nigeria would come from the APC.

“Jonathan’s government cannot guarantee our yearnings and expectations.

“We are seeing what Wamakko is doing in the state. We believe that the APC presidential candidate is patriotic and committed to the course of the commoner.

“Buhari is a man of the people  from what we saw yesterday. He will bring hope to Nigerians and Sokoto State”, he said.

Earlier, Honourable Murtala Madugu, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said the PDP was in confusion, adding that “it has  refused to see the phenomenal strides by Wamakko in the state. Instead of praising him, they are all abusing him. This is why we dumped the party for the APC”.

  • PDP, INEC plot to rig in Anambra, Ngige, APC allege

THE Anambra State chapter of the All progressive Congress (APC) and the senator representing Anambra central senatorial zone in the state, Dr. Chris Ngige, have raised the alarm that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is working in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig the presidential election in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan. However, both Ngige and the APC have vowed to resist any attempt to subvert the wishes of the people in the state. Nigige spoke at the weekend in Awka, the state capital, while inaugurating the 12-man presidential campaign council (PCC) for General Mohammadu Buhari in the state, led by Hon. Chima Okafor. According to Ngige,” we are not oblivious of the fact that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and the PDP government are working together in this state to suppress APC. Our party is not afraid in any way because our product is a marketable one in Buhari. ‘’ Buhari has come to liberate this country by tackling insurgency and corruption. That is the reason why they are afraid. But they will to kill all of us to win the election. ‘’Any attempt to stop us will be stoutly resisted on that day. This is what they did in 2011 in this state. But this time around, that door will be closed. We have it on good authority that part of their plan to defeat the APC in the state is by not having election here.’’ Speaking further, Ngige said that the APC is targeting to get about 60 percent of the total votes in the state, adding, “we will deliver Anambra to APC.’’ Meanwhile, the state presidential campaign council (PCC) coordinator has said that no form of intimidation by any person or group would stop the party from coasting to victory. Describing the APC as a moving train, he said the people should know that God is involved in the mission to rescue the people from what was going on in the country. “When God is working, you do not ask questions. The APC must stop this impunity in the land. Our candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari is tested and trusted in Nigeria. “I feel that with the help of everybody, we must deliver. And that is why the team is working day and night to match the forces of darkness, not only in this state, but in the entire country,“ Okafor said.

  • Our housing plans, by APC, PDP

Our housing plans, by APC, PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will build one million houses yearly if elected into power.

The party disclosed plans to address 17 million housing deficit.

While the APC said it would review the Land Use Act and provide infrastructures to realise the plan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  said it had begun plans through mortgage to address the situation.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the PDP representative, Dr. Catchy Onanoju, spoke yesterday in Abuja at the fourth edition of the Nigeria Political Parties Discussion (NPPD) inter-party debate organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

The debate had the theme: “The Challenges of Housing, Water and Power Supply in Nigeria: What is the Master Plan?”

Mohammed said: “ We will use the Land use Act to reform land in a manner that will encourage all states to computerise their land.

“This is why we said we will create a mortgage market to build one million houses per annum.”

Onanoju said PDP has “committed 50 million Euro bond to finance the mortgage. We have also asked the relevant government agencies, especially the Nigeria Mortgage Refinancing Company (NMRC), to take active hold of the money.

“We have already partnered 18 states to provide affordable housing from rent to own approach.”

On water, the PDP representative said Federal Government had provided enough water for power and agriculture through dry season farming and sanitationý.

He said over 200 dams had been built without any taxation on the people.

“If not for the sudden abundance of water, we won’t be able to provide enough water for the dry season farming,” Onanoju added.

The APC spokesperson said the nation had lost a lot, being unable to manage the dams built for irrigation.

He said the party would develop a regional water board through a 10-year plan to ensure there was sufficient water for the people.

The APC also emphasised its partnership with private sectors to ensure environmental regional water transfers across the country.

  • Buhari’s certificate a forgery – PDP

    Buhari’s certificate a forgery – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation has described the West African School Certificate result of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as a “forgery.”

At a news conference in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, said the result sheet issued by the Cambridge examination body was superimposed on another document

Asked if the PDP had contacted the authorities in Buhari’s old secondary school to verify the authenticity of the document, Fani-Kayode answered in the negative and maintained that the party was not interested in such exercise.

Fani-Kayode said: “The column lines on the part where names are printed do not align with the blank columns, while there is an introduction of extraneous lines on some other columns.

“The document contains an obvious alteration on the Mathematics column of the candidate, Mohamed Buhari, who was assumed to have scored an “F” in the subject.

“This raises a very fundamental issue of validity in view of the fact that the accompanying result sheet states that “any alteration or erasure renders this statement of Results invalid.

“This is the standard practice in all interpretation of documents especially academic records. The question we put to Gen. Buhari and his party is whether this alteration was done by the University of Cambridge.

“One of the footnotes on the document purportedly issued by the University of Cambridge said “the results of this candidate in all subjects except English Language have been carried forward from the 1960 examination.

“The question arising from this is: When exactly did Buhari sit for all the other subjects claimed to have been passed in the Secondary School Examination?

“Our conclusion from all these is that the documents purportedly released by Government College (Pilot) Katsina, upon which the APC Presidential candidates hopes to bury the doubt about his eligibility for next month’s election are forged, manipulated and fraudulently procured. They are therefore untenable in fact and in law.

“We do not know who the authors and masterminds of this forgery are but whoever they are, we urge them to come forward and be identified.

“If they fail to come forward voluntarily, we hereby call on the police and other security agencies to seek them out, find them, arrest them, interrogate them and prosecute them in accordance with the laws of the land.

“We reiterate our call on Gen. Buhari to submit himself to the police to answer charges of perjury, having lied on oath about his academic qualifications. This is what a man who claims to represent integrity and due process ought to do in this situation.”

  • Why Plateau can’t vote against PDP, by Sango

Why Plateau can’t vote against PDP, by Sango

Former Minister of Sports Mr. Damishi Sango has declared that the people of Plateau State will vote for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the general elections because the ruling party was conceived and delivered in  the state.

Sango spoke when he led a group of senior citizens on a courtesy visit to the governorship candidate  Senator Gyang Nyam Shom Pwajok in Jos.

He said: “We are here as members of Plateau Elders Forum to express our support for the ruling party PDP and all its candidates for the general election next month.

Sango added: “Plateau people cannot abandoned PDP for whatever reason, we can’t destroy the house we built because of certain disagreement.

“We want to let the world know that  Plateau is the home of PDP, the ruling party was conceived in Jos by the founding fathers in 1998; the name of the party and its logo and colours were selected and designed in a meeting of stakeholders in Jos.

“That was why the first national chairman of the party was given to a plateau man as the pioneer national leader of the party. The party went into political contest with other parties in 1999 to earn it a major national victory and made it a rulling party in Nigeria.

“Given these indisputable facts, even if every one abandoned the party, Plateau people will remain in the party because the party is our baby.”

The PDP chieftain said: “The elders forum under my leadership will take it upon itself to embark on a reconciliatory mission in the state to make sure the opposition parties will not take advantage of the little disagreement among the party stakeholders as a result of the last governorship primaries.

“We have resolved to vote Senator Gyang Pwajok as the party’s governorship candidate, we will vote President Goodluck Jonathan again and all other candidates of the party in the general election because we can’t afford to be in opposition against the party we labor to build” adding that the so-called disagreement in the party is a family affair.”

Senator Pwajok said, “The visit of the elders forum has brightened my hope in the election. I thought I have been left alone in this struggle but I now know the young and the old are behind me and I feel encouraged.

“I pledged not to let Plateau people down after supporting me to become governor”

  • PDP accuses Buhari of perjury over certificate

PDP accuses Buhari of perjury over certificate

The presidential campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, of perjury.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, urged Buhari to withdraw from the contest and to apologise to Nigerians.

Fani-Kayode was reacting to claims by the Nigerian Army that although Buhari obtained the West African School Certificate in 1961, copies of his certificate could not be found in Army records.

Consequently, Buhari had said he would contact authorities of the Government College, Katsina, to furnish him with copies of the certificate.

But the PDP insisted that the APC flag bearer had committed a “grave criminal offence” under the law and constitution.

The statement said: “Information reaching us now has shown that the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed today in Kano at a press conference that the affidavit he swore to in which he claimed that his credentials were in the custody of the military was not true after all.

“The implication of the action of this so-called “Mr. Clean” is nothing but perjury and we all know that this is a grave criminal offence under our laws and constitution.
“We urge Buhari and his party to do the right thing and tender an unreserved apology to the Nigerian people, throw in the towel and report to the nearest police station for interrogation and prosecution.

“Anything less than that would be an insult to the collective intelligence and integrity of the Nigerian people. We also urge the Nigerian Armed Forces to consider the possibility of stripping him of his rank and privileges given the fact that he was never qualified to join the Nigerian army as a commissioned officer in the first place because he never had the prerequisite qualifications which was a school certificate.

“Given this, at best Buhari should never have been anything more than a non-commissioned officer.”

The President’s campaign organisation also blamed Buhari and APC supporters for the reported attack by suspected thugs on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan during the President’s campaign rally in Katsina on Tuesday.

“We consider that action despicable, barbaric, shameful and highly reprehensible. It shows very clearly the violent nature, disposition and character of those individuals that were involved and the presidential candidate that they support.

“The Katsina show of shame was the first case of violence unleashed on our candidate by supporters of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, after the signing of the historic Abuja Accord by the presidential candidates of all the parties participating in the election. The purpose of that Accord was to discourage violence before, during and after the election.

“The laudable intention of the Accord has now been irresponsibly violated by a group of miscreants and vandals whose leader has proved to be wholly incapable of keeping them in check and restraining them from indulging in violence. It is worrisome that this kind of violent reaction would manifest when the election has not held and their candidate has not yet lost.

“We are taking this opportunity to serve notice today that by the grace of God and the support of the well-meaning Nigerian electorate, Gen. Buhari will suffer a crushing defeat in the hands of our candidate, President Jonathan, at the polls.”

  • PDP condemns mob attack on Jonathan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Tuesday’s attack on President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy by suspected thugs in Katsina.

The ruling party has blamed the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, for the attack, which took place during the President’s campaign rally in Katsina.

A statement on Wednesday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, said the attack was a clear indication that the APC was not ready to dial back on its rabid desire to attain power through violence despite signing a peace pact a week ago in Abuja.

The party added that the PDP would no longer tolerate such acts of violence on any of its members.

The statement said: “This brazen attack on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our presidential candidate clearly shows that the APC was never committed to the spirit and letters of the Abuja peace accord which they signed in the presence of prominent Nigerians and international personalities.

“It is unfortunate that while the PDP and other parties are busy ensuring that their members and supporters remain committed to a peaceful electioneering, the APC has been hatching plots to unleash violence on our candidates and members.

“We invite Nigerians, friends of Nigeria and all lovers of democracy to rise in condemnation of this dangerous phenomenon. These early developments clearly demonstrate that the comments and declarations by the leaders of the APC that Nigeria would be thrown into chaos and bloodshed should it lose the February general elections were real.

“We commend the maturity and the ever peaceful disposition of President Jonathan and the leaders of the PDP even in the face of this unwarranted attack.

“The irony which we wish to place on record is that the APC which has successfully completed its campaigns in the South South, including Bayelsa, the home state of President Jonathan without any incident and has even signed a pact to maintain peace, is turning round to unleash thugs to disrupt the presidential campaign of our great party.

“In spite, we wish to assure Nigerians of the iron cast resolve of the PDP to ensure peaceful and credible general election where the votes of the people shall exclusively determine who emerge as leaders in the elections.”

  • Lagos PDP ‘mobiliser’ joins APC

    Lagos PDP ‘mobiliser’ joins APC

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and frontline grassroots mobiliser in Lagos, Ibrahim Odofin, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President of Ojomu Youth Forum and a former PDP chairmanship candidate in Eti-Osa Local Government urged the people to vote for the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.
Odofin, who runs a security company on Lagos Island, urged voters to reject the ruling party because the PDP-led government “is anti-masses and selfish.”
He announced his membership of APC at a meeting with the leaders of ethnic groups in Eti-Osa as well as commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators.
Odofin said he moved to the APC having realised the good plans it has for the people.
According to him, it is clear that the PDP-government has demonstrated its lack of ideas on how to move the country forward by failing to address power, corruption, infrastructure, and insecurity problems.
“Now is the time for people to really embrace change in the interest of the nation. I stand here before you today to tell you that I’m no longer a member of the PDP. I have left them because they don’t have any good plan for the country.
“Vote for all the APC candidates; vote for Akinwunmi Ambode as governor and all our members of House of Assembly and the National Assembly. We are all tired of the PDP and we must send them out with our votes.”
