Anyanwu-led PDP inaugurates Enugu caretaker executive

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has inaugurated its newly constituted caretaker committee approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) led by the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulraham Mohameed, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The inauguration, held at Okechi Estate Events Centre, opposite ANAMCO, Emene, Enugu, drew a mammoth turnout of party faithful from the state’s 17 local government areas.

The ceremony signaled what many described as a fresh dawn for the party following months of inactivity and internal lull.

This was contained in a statement issued by the new caretaker secretary of the state chapter, Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke.

According to the statement, Barr. Kenneth Igwesi, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of the National Legal Adviser and as directed by Senator Anyanwu, said the new leadership became necessary following the collapse of the former state leadership under Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, who defected to the APC.

He charged members to adhere strictly to the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The caretaker committee is chaired by former Igboeze South Local Government chairman, Hon. Vitus Okechi, while Hon. Okereke serves as the State Secretary.

Speaking during the ceremony, Okechi emphasised unity, inclusion, and the rebirth of the PDP’s winning spirit, expressing confidence that the party was firmly on track to reclaiming its dominance in the state.

“Enugu State is PDP, and PDP is Enugu State,” he declared, applauding members who remained committed despite recent political turbulence.

He assured them that their loyalty would be rewarded when the party returns to the Lion Building in 2027, describing the expected victory as fait accompli.

He added that the party’s mobilisation strategy would be “efficient, smart and relentless.”

The State Secretary, Hon. Okereke, highlighted the need for inclusivity and the deployment of administrative competence in steering the rejuvenated party to victory.

He said the repositioned PDP would be driven by the values of integrity, honesty, and appreciation of members.

Also speaking, the immediate past State Vice Chairman of the party, Ozo Okey Ozoani, commended the NWC for reposing confidence in the new leadership.

He traced the party’s current challenges to what he described as an “alien leadership disconnected from the true PDP family,” noting that 2027 offered a chance to restore the party’s legacy in Enugu.

Similarly, Dr. Nnamdi Onyia urged members to remain steadfast, stressing that loyalty and consistency remain key to political reward and collective progress.

Other dignitaries at the event included Prof. (Mrs.) Iloh, Barr. Celine Ugwu, Barr. Chizoba Ezeagor, Chief Ken Obiora, Chief Chukwujekwu Nebo, and Chief Obiora Ugwu, a former prominent youth leader and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ugwuanyi.

Osun PDP Reps caucus disowns guber primary, blames Makinde for party’s crisis

The Osun State caucus in the House of Representatives on Wednesday accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of attempting to interfere in Osun politics by importing “thugs and political jobbers” to conduct a governorship primary in the state.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the caucus, all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejected Tuesday’s governorship primary and warned the purported winner, Adebayo Adedamola Fryo, not to present himself as a PDP candidate.

The caucus members include Bamidele Salam, Mudashiru Lukman Alani, Akanni Clement Ademola, Adewale Moruf Adebayo, Adetunji Abidemi Olusoji, and Oladebo Lanre Omoleye.

They accused Governor Makinde of political brigandage and formally disowned the primaries allegedly conducted under his influence, expressing disappointment in his actions.

Condemning what they described as a “purported governorship primary” orchestrated with outsiders from Ibadan, the lawmakers stated that Makinde’s conduct reflects desperation for regional political influence and amounts to untoward behavior capable of destabilizing Osun’s political environment.

They further emphasized that the PDP has established procedures for primaries, including the election of ward ad-hoc and national delegates, without which no primary can be considered valid.

“We unequivocally reject the fraudulent conduct of a purported primary that threw up one Adebayo Adedamola Fryo as the PDP candidate in the 2026 elections,” the statement read. The caucus warned Fryo that parading himself as a candidate would constitute criminal impersonation and provoke the party in Osun State.

Highlighting Makinde’s political immaturity, the lawmakers advised him to heed the Yoruba proverb: a man accused of theft should not approach the villagers’ chickens at night.

They cautioned him against exporting impunity and recklessness to Osun, which has a sitting governor known for inclusive governance.

Reiterating their commitment to the PDP Constitution, the Nigerian Constitution, and the Electoral Act, the lawmakers urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discard the results of the alleged primaries and ensure adherence to proper procedures in selecting candidates.

Turaki: PDP unaware of Adeleke’s exit, ex-governors’ ambassadorial offers

    • Opposition party won’t die, say Damagum, Turaki
    • Ex-chair hands over to new NWC

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Taminu Turaki, has said the party’s leadership had not received any briefing on the exit of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke from the party.

He also said the party’s former governors who were nominated for ambassadorial jobs had not contacted the party’s leadership for its position.

Turaki spoke at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, after receiving the handover notes from the former Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun.

The national chairman claimed ignorance about the development, saying: “From the instructions we have given our people in the field, I know that Governor Adeleke’s name is one of the aspirants vying for the ticket. So, if he decides—either in person or via a representative at the centre of the primary—that he has withdrawn or refused to make himself available, then that will form part of the report we will receive.

“As far as we are concerned, even if what we saw on social media is true, as a Nigerian, Governor Adeleke, like any other person, has the constitutional right to freedom of association. He is free to move in; he is free to move out of any political party.

“For us, I have always said our power—our strength—is not in who are members of the National Assembly from our party. It is not in who are the governors of our party. It is in the people—and that is why the PDP is the people’s party. We are together with our people.

“If you go to states where some of the governors left, conduct a survey, and you will discover that most of the people did not go with those who defected. That is what we are counting on. Our people are with us intact. By the special grace of God, when election time comes, they will prove to Nigerians that the PDP is still in proper and complete shape.”

Commenting on the nomination of former governors of the party as ambassadors, Turaki said: “For the former governors who have been nominated, we are yet to receive any indication from them seeking permission or notifying us of the appointment. We wish them well.

“If they come to us, we will certainly consider it on its merit and decide on the appropriate response. But for now, I can confirm to you that we have not received any communication from them informing us that they have been nominated for ambassadorial positions.”

In his brief remarks after handing over the PDP leadership to Turaki, Damagun said: “This handover for us is part of our responsibility to address this NWC. We ought to have done it immediately after we came out of the National Convention, but we have been trying to compile our handover note, realising time. There is no better time than now. It is better late than never.

“Today, I am presenting my stewardship so that it will serve as a guide as you navigate the leadership of this party. I know it is coming at a time when we are bedevilled by many challenges. The beauty of the PDP is its ability to surmount all obstacles we have faced and to continue to overcome every challenge by doing what is right.

“The PDP is still the party to beat in this country. That is why you see that they (the ruling APC) are losing sleep. Every day, we cross one hurdle; they place another before us, we cross it and continue. All this happens by God’s blessing.

“The most important thing is that we are people of faith who believe God will always see us through. We are positive. In other words, God is a just God and does not support injustice. You may have temporary respite through your injustices, but when God’s justice descends on you, then you realise that He alone is absolute.”

Turaki said the party’s leadership is prepared to return it to Nigerians as the real owners.

He said the PDP remains the party to beat in the 2027 general election.

The PDP chairman also urged the Federal Government to take proactive steps to address the security challenges facing the country.

According to him, the ruling party has not lived up to the expectations of Nigerians.

Turaki said the PDP is the envy of some people, hence the determination of such people to destroy it.

But the chairman expressed the confidence that those plotting the downfall of the party would fail.

Addressing Damagum while taking over the leadership of the party from him, Turaki said: “I want to assure you that we have resolved that we are up to the task. I want to assure you that we will continue to take inspiration, to take guidance, to take advice, and to maintain a very critical interface with you.

“We plead with you and members of your administration that you may be out, but you are not gone. We will need you to support us. We will need you to be there for us. We will need you to give us that uncommon guidance because, as the saying goes, the woman who first becomes a mother will certainly have more broken hopes than the one who comes after.

“We believe that for the four years in which you managed the affairs of this great party of ours, you still have a lot to contribute towards taking this party to the highest level we aspire to reach.

“We are today at a crossroads, because we are in a situation where some believe that the PDP must be killed, the PDP must be destroyed, the PDP must be isolated because of the threat we pose to them. But the fact remains that in a democracy, you should live and let others live.

“We have promised since our assumption of office that we are taking this party back to the Nigerian people. This party is called the people’s party. If it is the people’s party, we must take it back to the people. We said there would be no impunity, no injustice. There will be a level-playing field, transparency, and, above all, fairness.”

Addressing reporters after the handover, the PDP chairman said the government has a lot to do in tackling the security challenges facing the country.

According to him, Nigerians are no longer safe anywhere in the country.

He said: “We have meticulously reviewed the security situation in this country and have come to the conclusion that the Federal Government of Nigeria has a lot to do in that respect. It is the minimum obligation of every government to provide safety for the lives and properties of its citizenry.

“We believe that, with the spate of kidnappings now taking place virtually all over this country, and with the spate of killings taking place all over this country, the APC-led Federal Government has really not lived up to the expectations of Nigerians.

“We, therefore, call on the Federal Government to brace up and, most especially, begin to consider a review of the security architecture in this country. We in the PDP believe that a situation where governors are called the chief security officers of their respective states, yet have no hand in controlling the operational activities of the military and security personnel who operate in their states, is something that needs to be overhauled.

“We believe the situation in this country is such that Nigerians are not safe on the streets; not safe in their places of work—be it in the office, on the farms, in the markets—and not safe in their homes. So, the situation where every citizen lives in perpetual fear, walks in perpetual fear, and does their business in perpetual fear is something that must change.

“We, therefore, call on the Federal Government to really brace up and ensure that Nigerians are protected wherever they are, and that their properties are protected wherever they are”.

Speaking about the state of the party, Turaki said: “We have reviewed the performance of this National Working Committee since I was sworn in in Ibadan, and we are satisfied that we are seriously working towards discharging the mandate that our constituents—the members of our party—have given us.

“This afternoon, we reviewed, confirmed and approved the congresses that were held in Osun State for the purpose of selecting ad hoc delegates. We have also reviewed and confirmed the processes of the gubernatorial primary election that is currently ongoing, and we are satisfied with the reports we are receiving from the field: that everything is being done in an orderly, transparent, fair and just manner, and that it is rancour-free. That is vintage PDP.

“I am sure that, before the end of the day, the gubernatorial candidate who will represent our party in the governorship election taking place in Osun early next year will be announced.

“We have also reviewed the arrangements being made for the conduct of the local government election in Anambra State, and we are satisfied with the report we received from the leadership of the party in Anambra State that they are well prepared for that election. We are hoping that we will sweep that election when it is conducted.

“We have also reviewed some of the cases filed against us, and those we have also filed—particularly the one that relates to the unlawful and illegal closure of our offices, the Legacy House and the Wadata Plaza. The brief we received from our lawyers is that we are on sound ground, and that very soon the law will take its course.

“More importantly, we have also begun looking at the handover notes that the outgoing executives gave to us. As I said, we are going to be very painstaking in our consideration of those notes, so that we leave no stone unturned in ensuring that there is no gap whatsoever in continuing with the good work the outgoing National Working Committee has done. For us in the PDP, it is a long continuum, and so there is not going to be any gap.

“We have also considered the issue of members of our party who were expelled by the National Convention in Ibadan. We have taken note of the fact that Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties, and so we have sought to make it easy for them.

“Now that they are no longer members of our party, and now that the National Convention, which is the highest decision-making organ of our party, has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion. So that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP, and so those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.

“We have done this for Nigerians—particularly critical institutions involved in managing the affairs of political parties, especially INEC, and agencies managing security affairs in society: the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other government agencies—to know that these people are no longer members of our party. They have been expelled. They remain expelled. We have now certified their expulsion, and these certificates have been sent to them.

“Very soon, members of the society will be informed via proper disclaimers that any person henceforth who decides to do business with them—any or all of them—does so at his or her own risk. They are no longer members of the People’s Democratic Party. They have been expelled. You today are living witnesses to their certificates of expulsion.

“We hope that members of the PDP in Nigeria and the diaspora will know that the party has once again got rid of the cankerworms that have been afflicting and creating problems for us in our activities.

“We are now prepared to be saddled with the responsibility of performing our functions as the leading opposition party in Nigeria. We are going to provide a credible alternative to Nigerians. “We are going to provide credible leadership to Nigerians, by the special grace of God, from 2027.”

Those who want to kill PDP will fail, says Turaki

Immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, on Tuesday formally handed over the party’s affairs to the newly elected National Working Committee during the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan.

At the handover ceremony, the new National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said his leadership is committed to returning the PDP to the people. He described the party as “the party to beat” in Nigeria and acknowledged ongoing efforts by some to undermine it.

Recalling the commitment of the outgoing leadership, Turaki said, “Immediately after our election at the convention in Ibadan, you promised that you and members of the executive would prepare a comprehensive handover note to help us understand where you were coming from and where you were at the time of your departure, so we could navigate the affairs of this party. Today, as God would have it, that pledge has been fulfilled. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us.”

He assured the former leadership of their continued engagement, saying, “We are up to the task. We will continue to take inspiration, guidance, and advice from you. Though you are out, you are not gone. We will need your support and uncommon guidance, because, as the saying goes, the woman who first becomes a mother will certainly have more broken hopes than the one who comes after.”

Turaki emphasised that the outgoing leadership still has much to contribute toward elevating the PDP to the highest level it aspires to reach during the next four years.

“We are today at a crossroads, because we are in a situation where some believe that the PDP must be killed, the PDP must be destroyed, the PDP must be isolated because of the threat we pose to them. But the fact remains that in a democracy, you should live and let others live.

There will be a level playing field, transparency, and, above all, fairness.

“I want to affirm, on behalf of the new members of the NWC, that we still stand by that pledge we made in Ibadan

“The handover report of your stewardship is in two volumes. This is Volume 1, and this is Volume 2. I assure you, Your Excellency, that we will sit down, examine the reports carefully, and take guidance from whatever is inside.

“Once again, I want to assure Nigerians that the PDP is on the rise again, and there is no stopping us. Thank you very much.”

In his brief remarks, Damagun said, “This handover for us is part of our responsibility to address this NWC. We ought to have done it immediately after we came out of the National Convention, but we have been trying to compile our handover note, realising time. There is no better time than now. Osun speaker, lawmakers storm PDP primary venue, clash with INEC officials

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, along with some lawmakers and their aides, on Tuesday stormed the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary to confront officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party members.

Egbedun, accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi, and other lawmakers, arrived at Adolak Event Centre shortly after the primary winner was declared, expressing opposition to the exercise.

A video circulating on social media showed Egbedun pointing at the INEC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Olurode, dressed in a blue native attire, after which one of his aides reportedly attacked the official.

The Deputy Speaker, Oyewusi, intervened, ordering the aides to cease the assault.

The Speaker later entered the hall, angrily declaring that those at the venue had no right to conduct a party primary in Osun State.

Speaking to newsmen, Egbedun warned Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, against using Osun State as a springboard for his presidential ambition.

He said, “I am the Speaker of Osun, I am a leader in my state and in the PDP. We were on the floor of the house when we received calls that some people were here, all the way from Oyo State, to come just to have a vote that we call a drama.”

“I am a leader of PDP and a bona fide member of the Party. I used the PDP ticket to win my election in 2023. So it’s very strange to see videos of people calling themselves PDP members. I could remember that there was a message that there was going to be a Congress. We were waiting for them, and we received another message that the Congress had been postponed.”

He warned, “This is a message to Gov Seyi Makinde, if he is desperate to become President come 2027, he should use another state as a tool, not Osun state. We are bona fide PDP members; we have 25 House of Assembly members, 5 Rep members, and senators.

“For a governor from another state to come to our state to dictate to us, we won’t take that. This is a message to everybody that we won’t take this anymore. They came here to do what I can call a drama, and this will be the end of it.”

He reiterated, “We do not have any notifications whatsoever from any office. I am the Speaker, and a governor from another state will come to dictate to us; we won’t take that. We will have a meeting and decide on what to do.”

  • PDP, APC trade words over welfare, recruitment in Ondo Amotekun Corps

PDP, APC trade words over welfare, recruitment in Ondo Amotekun Corps

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his handling of the state’s Amotekun Corps, accusing him of ignoring persistent welfare complaints from operatives while publicly backing the leadership of the security outfit.

In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s director of media and public communications, Wándé Àjàyí, said the recent commissioning of the Amotekun Command headquarters and the announcement of fresh recruitment were being used to mask what he termed the “disturbing reality” confronting serving officers.

But in a swift response, the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the PDP’s allegations as “misguided” and an attempt to politicise matters of state security.

The APC said Aiyedatiwa’s foremost responsibility is the protection of lives and property in Ondo State, adding that his support for the Amotekun leadership is driven by the need to maintain stability and enhance operational efficiency amid evolving security threats nationwide.

However, the PDP alleged that Amotekun personnel across the state have repeatedly raised concerns over unpaid salaries, lack of appointment letters, poor welfare, stalled promotions, and the absence of job security.

It noted that some operatives had petitioned the government over unpaid allowances and alleged arbitrary redeployments without receiving any meaningful response.

The statement further cited investigative reports that purportedly exposed irregularities in the agency’s payroll system, including claims that the refusal to issue appointment letters had created a compromised structure capable of accommodating ghost workers.

According to the PDP, petitions from officers in all three senatorial districts have been submitted to the government but remain unaddressed.

The opposition party further accused Aiyedatiwa of overlooking the grievances while offering what it described as “unwavering public backing” to the Amotekun Corps Commandant – a posture it said undermines morale and shields alleged administrative misconduct.

The PDP also berated the governor’s announcement of plans to recruit 500 new operatives, describing it as politically motivated and insensitive to the plight of current officers.

Expanding the corps, the party argued, without resolving existing welfare and structural issues, would deepen the crisis within the agency.

To restore confidence, the PDP urged the governor to clear all outstanding salaries and allowances owed to operatives, issue proper appointment letters, address all pending petitions, and ensure transparent promotion and posting procedures.

It also demanded a comprehensive audit of the Amotekun payroll before any recruitment exercise begins.

“Security must be based on integrity, fairness, and transparency. A government that neglects the welfare of security workers while defending those at the top cannot claim to be committed to public safety,” the PDP said in the copy of the statement.

The APC, in a statement released by his spokesman, Steve Otaloro, highlighted the recent commissioning of a modern Command and Control Centre, a state-of-the-art training auditorium, and the ongoing recruitment of the fifth batch of Amotekun operatives as “bold and proactive steps” aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.

“At a time when communities across Nigeria are grappling with rising security challenges, Ondo State cannot afford to slow down or play politics with the safety of its people,” it said.

The governing party insisted that the Aiyedatiwa administration has not ignored welfare issues, saying matters relating to salaries, documentation, and structural adjustments are already being addressed “systematically and transparently” without fanfare or political theatrics.

“What the PDP calls ‘shielding’ is merely the governor refusing to politicise internal administrative processes. Welfare reforms are ongoing, and the government remains committed to ensuring that every legitimate officer receives what is due in line with established procedures and available resources,” it said.

The APC argued that expanding the corps while addressing internal issues aligns with global security practices, adding that the PDP’s attempt to create a conflict between welfare and recruitment reflects a poor understanding of how security institutions operate.

“You do not weaken a security force because there are administrative issues. You strengthen it while resolving them,” the party stated.

The ruling party accused the PDP of attempting to destabilise the Amotekun Corps through politically motivated attacks and maintained that security should not be used as a partisan tool.

“The APC stands firmly with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he continues to take decisive steps to secure the lives and property of the people. Security is a collective priority, not a political weapon,” the statement added.

BREAKING: Heavy security as PDP begins Osun guber primary

    • …election committee, INEC reps arrive venue
    • …957 delegates accredited for PDP primary

There was a heavy presence of security operatives on Tuesday at the Adolak Event Centre, Osogbo, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insisted on holding its 2026 Osun State governorship primary.

This comes despite the declaration by the state chapter, led by chairman Sunday Bisi, that the earlier scheduled December 2, 2025 primary could not hold due to the lingering national leadership crisis.

Bisi had also hinted that Governor Ademola Adeleke might not be interested in seeking the party’s ticket under the current situation.

However, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilous Shan, maintained that the primary must proceed as planned.

At the venue, security was tight, with personnel from the Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) stationed around the premises.

The party’s primary committee, chaired by Mr. Humphery Abba, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present.

Screening of delegates from the 30 local government areas of Osun State had been concluded at the time of filing this report.

A member of the committee confirmed that 957 out of 990 delegates had been accredited.

He added that two aspirants: Senator Ademola Adeleke and Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola were initially in the race, but Adeleke has since withdrawn from the party.

Barely 12 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s Osun Chairman, Sunday Bisi, declared that the governorship primary would not hold as scheduled, the PDP is now set to conduct its primary election on Tuesday, December 2.

Bisi had told selected journalists on Monday that the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers, who play statutory roles in conducting congresses, primaries, and transmitting candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had thrown the process into confusion.

He further stated that due to the crisis rocking the national leadership of the PDP, Governor Adeleke might no longer be interested in seeking the party’s ticket for the 2026 Osun governorship election unless an INEC-recognized resolution is reached within the stipulated timeline.

Hours later, a resignation letter purportedly signed by Governor Adeleke surfaced online, dated November 4, 2025, in which he cited the party’s national leadership crisis as his reason for quitting.

However, the PDP national secretariat, through its National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Shan, maintained in a letter dated December 1, 2025, that the primary would proceed as planned on December 2, 2025.

The letter read, “Sequel to the earlier notice of 28th October, 2025 to the gubernatorial primaries and the successful completion of congresses to elect ad-hoc delegates and National delegates in Osun State on the 24th and 29th of November, 2025, the Party hereby reminds strategic stakeholders and the general public that the primaries to elect the gubernatorial candidate will hold on December 2nd, 2025 at Atlantis Multipurpose Hall, Ring road, Osogbo, Osun State, 10am.”

He noted that the Electoral Committee for the Primary has been constituted and will oversee the conduct of the exercise accordingly.

The letter advised, “The candidates cleared for the primaries are advised to behave in accordance with the provisions of our party’s constitution and the in the interest of law and order, as any act of indiscipline will be severely punished.”

Meanwhile, a top security source confirmed that the primary may not hold at the venue due to several threats that the exercise must not proceed because the state leadership has taken its stance.

The source said, “They have threatened both the owner and the manager of the venue never to allow the primary to hold. This may force them to change the venue to another place. But we are on top of the situation.”

Also, a source within the party who pleaded anonymity, said, “The primary will hold as schedule but we are yet to know the venue, we have changed the earlier venue. Security is guaranteed for all the delegates.”

Also, one of the organisers of the Primary simply identified as Abiodun said “the state chapter of PDP is threatening us but we won’t panic. We are going to hold the primary no matter the threat.”

Efforts to speak with State Chairman, Sunday Bisi was abortive as his phone was not available as at the time of filing this report.

We’re restructuring PDP to reclaim power in 2027, says Turaki

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has assured members of the party that efforts are ongoing to reposition and restructure the party for effectiveness.

He said the main opposition would be reorganised to become formidable ahead of the 2027 general election, despite the current challenges facing it.

Turaki spoke in Abuja during the 80th birthday celebration of a former Minister of Information and Culture, Prof. Jerry Gana.

A book titled: Jerry Gana, Stewardship and Integrity, written by Simon Musa, was also unveiled during the celebration.

Turaki affirmed his commitment to restructure the party and ensure that there is transparency, fairness, equity and justice in all its processes.

The former minister said the era of imposition of candidates was over, stressing that the new PDP would allow people to decide who they want during the party’s primaries and elective processes.

He said all candidates who need to be on the ballot paper on the platform of the party would be nominated by the people, but must be people with integrity.

Turaki said: “Prof. Gana is a man of credibility and integrity, a politician’s politician, an icon, an enigma and an institution. The new PDP will ensure that there is transparency, there is fairness, there is equity, and there is justice in whatever process we do.
