Peak milk’s ‘Pecadomo’ train storms Lagos

In driving more nourishment for Nigerians through its ‘Pecadomo’ – Peak can do more campaign, Peak Milk was recently at Irebawa Street, Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos for the neighbourhood storm where the brand showcased before residents the various ways Peak Milk can be used in cooking.

Despite the threat of an afternoon rain, adults and children residing in the area trooped in front of the Peak Milk truck which had been transformed into a mobile kitchen to experience culinary diversity by the Pecadomo team.

After a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the objective of the campaign, which is to present Nigerians with more ways to stay nourished in these times using their Peak milk,  four dishes were transformed with Peak milk.

According to the diary company in a statement, “Eggs are usually enjoyed during breakfast in many Nigerian homes because of its high nutritional value.  In this regard, the first dish prepared was ‘Peak Scrambled Egg’ which was made with eggs, black pepper, salt, margarine and Peak milk.

“The resulting dish was a creamier and more nutritious scrambled egg which can be served with bread. Peak milk also worked well in the omelet dish giving the omelet a unique colour, aroma and flavor.  The residents/on lookers who volunteered to be part of the taste session attested to this.”

Similarly, the Peak Oat pancake was prepared.  Instead of flour, this pancake was made with blended oats, eggs, nutmeg, sugar, butter, salt and Peak evaporated milk.  Not only did the pancakes turn out creamier and tastier, they also contained high fibre which is excellent for people who desire to lose weight.

As a healthy lunch dish, the chef prepared the popular Peak milk rice which was plain white rice boiled in milk and water. It was served with chicken stew.

Smoothies are fast becoming popular in Nigeria with many people opting for the healthier lifestyle. Hence, the Pecadomo (Peak can do more) team also prepared a Banana, chocolate and Peak milk smoothie (Peak Bachos) with chopped bananas, ice cubes, Peak choco, honey and Peak liquid milk. With a fast but quick mix in the blender, the smoothie was ready to the delight and enjoyment of onlookers.

Sharing her experience of the Pecadomo campaign, Mrs. Grace Philips, a businesswoman said that although she loves smoothies and made them often, the addition of Peak Milk made a great difference.  “I have been making smoothies for many years now but this Banana and Peak Smoothie makes me smile.”

For Mrs. Martha Ugwu, a businesswoman, the Peak scrambled egg tasted so nice and was highly nutritious hence, she promised to add Peak milk to her eggs especially for her children.

A regular consumer of Peak milk, Miss Funke Abiola said she has always trusted the Peak brand hence she was not surprised that they are bringing fresh ideas of how Peak milk can give more value adding “I have always used Peak Milk but I am pleasantly surprised by this. I don’t like eggs but I would definitely try the Smoothie and pancake at home.”

A banker, Mrs. Deborah Akinwehinmi who equally ate the Peak milk rice expressed her delight at learning how to prepare rice in a different way. “Initially, I was sceptical about how the Milk Rice would taste, but it was surprisingly delicious – creamy, smooth and flavourful. I am sure my family would love it when I prepare it for them this weekend,” she added.

Residents were also given nutritional tips as well as some cooking tips by the chef who also directed the audience to facebook.com/peakmilk for more recipes.

The Pecadomo campaign train promised it will be stopping at different locations across the country, imploring residence to be ready as it could be in any neighbourhood next.

Peak Milk showers kids with gifts on Children’s Day

Peak Milk, the popular premium brand from the stable of Friesland Campina Wamco, has presented lots of gifts to children as they celebrated this year’s Children’s Day.

The event took place at the Blue Roof of the Lagos State Television (LTV 8) complex in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital.

It was witnessed by huge families from different parts of the state and neighbouring Ogun State and its environs.

The children, who were dressed in various attires, were excited; many of them were seen running around, enjoying themselves.

On the significance of the day, a parent Mrs. Hajara Ibrahim said she was elated to celebrate the day with the children.

The elated mother said her busy schedule at work in the last three years had prevented her from relating well with the children, hence the need to utilise the opportunity better.

She said: “I have been found wanting, especially in spending quality time with the children. At least, today has made me appreciate the need to understand them better. I am highly excited to be here with them. We have really had fun and they are happy that all of us are here with them.”

Another parent, Mr. Adebayo Abimbola, noted that children are the future leaders.

He said they require adequate attention and necessary grooming.

Abimbola said an occasion, like Children’s Day, is an opportunity for parents to bond with children.

He noted that values and other essentials of human development had been lacking in them because parents were not spending enough time with their kids.

Some of the children hailed the management of Peak Milk for making the gathering memorable.

One of them, Michael Daniel, who is dreaming of becoming a doctor, said the dairy company had done well by celebrating the children, especially with the donation of books and presentation of milk products to everyone at the event.

No fewer than 30 educational institutions attended the event.

  • Ramadan: Peak offers nutritional support

    Ramadan: Peak offers nutritional support

As Muslim faithfuls all around the world begin the journey into the Holy month of Ramadan, Peak Milk has commenced a campaign to support the Nigerian Muslims and educate them with nutritional tips that will help them make the most of the fasting season.

The campaign, which is captioned Nourish Your Body With Peak, has commenced in parts of Northern and South Western Nigeria with an enlightenment programme that runs on major radio stations to prepare the Muslim community in Nigeria for the fasting and to enlighten them on the nutritional requirements needed to stay fit throughout the holy month, and achieve a spiritually robust and successful fast.

Feelers emanating from the dairy sector revealed that one of the purposes of the media campaign was to reinforce and remind Nigerians on the need for regular milk consumption as it facilitates healthy and strong body growth/maintenance during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, nutritionists have stressed that regular milk consumption, especially during fasting period is imperative, because milk contains nature’s essential nutrients that is required for everyday activity.

It is advised that between 500 – 750ml milk be taken during the month of Ramadan, according to nutrition experts, as this will provide the body with energy required to undertake daily activity notwithstanding the disruption in regular diet schedule.

Muslim faithfuls are therefore admonished to consume drinks based on milk and fruit such as milk shakes and smoothies which provide some natural sugars for energy, provide minerals like potassium, copper and manganese and are nutrients- these are good to break your fast.

The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth of the Islamic calendar and a time when many Muslims across the world fast during daylight hours for 29-30days.

Taking part in this spiritual activity means no food or drink during the daylight hours, eating one meal just before dawn and another after sunset.

  • Peak Milk takes ‘Art of Milk’ to schools in Ikeja

Ahead of World Milk Day on June 1, Nigeria’s’ premium dairy brand, Peak Milk, has taken its “Art of Milk” initiative to some secondary schools in Ikeja and its environs.

It was creativity galore when the brand team of Peak Milk visited Cayley College, Agidingbi and Wellsprings College, Omole Phase II. Pupils of both schools showed amazing talents, giving their presentations of prepared meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner by using milk as the main food item.

Besides the brand team, also present at the event were star actress, Mrs. Sola Sobowale and head chef/ Managing Director, We Are Food Limited, Mr. Adeniyi Williams.

They were members of the panel of judges.

The organisers said the initiative was meant to showcase ingenuity by using milk in unconventional cooking practices.

Sobowale said: “Over the years, we have been eating the same kind of food. Milk is one of the essential foods we need. It is not just for Quaker Oats, pap or cornflakes. We have a lot of things we can do with milk. That is why I love the fact that Peak is making us use milk wisely.”

Williams said the “Art of Milk” initiative was close to his heart, adding that he believed everyone should get involved.

He said: “There is so much fun in the kitchen. I believe if you let these kids start cooking at 10, 11 years; by the time they are 18 to 20, I do not see why they can’t be the best in Africa.”

As a food enthusiast, Williams added that milk was important for all and sundry.

“I still drink milk and I am 28. It is a good source of Vitamin D’ phosphorus, calcium and so on. Coming from the point of Western cooking, there are amazing things you can do with milk when cooking and baking – and that is what Peak is showing,” he said.

The competition helped the pupils and their teachers to try out unbelievable recipes.

Mrs. Deborah Oladimeji, the Food and Nutrition teacher of Wellsprings College, said it was an exciting challenge.

She said: “We went through some recipes and tried to create our own taking into cognisance the period of the meals”, she explained.

Their presentation was Sweet potato pancake (made with milk) and beef kebabs (for breakfast); chicken egusi soup with vegetable and milk semovita (lunch) and milk rice with crayfish and pepper for dinner.

To enter the competition, schools in Lagos would enter in recipes using milk to peakmilkng@gmail.com. Ten finalists will be chosen from which the winning school would emerge on June 1st.

The grand prize is a branded LED screen while the second and third prizes would be air-conditioning units for six and three classrooms.
