Peter Obi still struggling with 2023 defeat – Bwala

Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala. has stated that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, is yet to recover from the “painful defeat” he suffered in the last general election.

Bwala made this remark in a post on his X page on Wednesday, in response to Obi’s Tuesday interview on Arise TV, where he made sarcastic remarks while assessing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to Bwala, Obi’s comments lacked facts and logical analysis, describing his delivery as “abysmal”.

“As I listen to Peter Obi this evening struggling to play the opposition (oppose the government), I can’t help but shudder at his abysmal delivery.“He was speaking devoid of facts, logical analysis, and almost sounded like a tinkling cymbal or a sounding brass,” he wrote.

Bwala further claimed that Nigeria “dodged a bullet” by not electing Obi as president, suggesting that the former Anambra Governor is now “deserted in the banana republic of fantasy.

  • Is Peter Obi the praying mantis?

Is Peter Obi the praying mantis?

Pitobi amused me during Ramadam. First as a feeder of the poor. Second, as a praying mantis. Was he trying to show that he is now a Muslim or that he has sympathy for Muslims? So, when he sat among the small boys to break his fast, two things struck me. First, he was not eating the quality of rice the poor often eat. He tempted the poor with his upscale cuisine. The jollof rice was rich. Its colour could tickle a palate. I don’t know where it came from, but those boys must have been very titillated that evening when they broke their fast. They must invite him again as a good customer. Or he invited them. It was probably from Kitchen Republic or specially prepared by some happy chef. In the next Ramadan, Pitobi should wake up at 5:30 am and join them. Not his evening version of Iftar when no one can verify whether he had ofe nsala for lunch. Two, he did not communicate with the little guys. He was just eating and looking. How could he. He had not long ago showed contempt for them when he rallied his Christian elite in the name of election. He had too much contempt to relate to them. He was just smiling to himself. He was making love to himself.

I say praying mantis, because this was the same Pitobi who rallied Christians against Muslims, a pilgrim and crusader, not long ago. He ran as a saviour of the kingdom. He does not have to pray, but show interest. Maybe he would go to Mecca next. But if he must pray, let us know if he will apologise to those Muslims he threw dirt at during the 2023 presidential campaign.

He is beginning to pray down our democracy though with ignorance. He says democracy is collapsing because he lost the election. He says no one should be elected unless they have over 50 percent of the votes. If we were to follow that, we can have only two parties. His Labour Party would not be in the running last time. This man needs to go and read history and political systems. There is a reason we have parliamentary systems and presidential systems and hybrids, from the United States to France to the United Kingdom to India.

If he has a humility to learn, he can go to any university in Nigeria, especially now that he has a lot of idle time to cross religious line in journeys of hypocrisy. If he cannot go, I can recommend some books for him to read. He needs light.

  • Peter Obi, El-Rufai turn to TikTok for 2027

Peter Obi, El-Rufai turn to TikTok for 2027

As Nigeria continues to embrace the digital age, social media platforms have transformed how citizens interact with public and private institutions as well as prominent personalities.

For example, with over 2.8 million followers, Dino Melaye is the most followed Nigerian politician on Instagram. He is closely followed by Bola Tinubu who has 1.1 million followers and Prof Yemi Osinbajo who has 997K followers. Others are Peter Obi with 933 thousand followers and Governor Babajidr Sanwo-Olu – with 882K thousand followers, among others.

In the past few weeks, TikTok has become a powerful stage and a fleeting spotlight for many politicians. Two prominent politicians — Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai — captured the hearts of many Nigerians, especially youths from the Northern and Southern bases on TikTok.

TikTok is very popular with young audiences – and Nigerians are no exception. It appears to be the most popular social media platform in Nigeria. It has continued to gain dominance by the day, and is gradually diverting young Nigerians from other social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

Over time, TikTok just like other social media platforms have also played undeniable roles in spreading the popularity of viral slangs/phrases and footage. In particular, TikTok creators hold live sessions, and as such, the platform is no stranger to the whirlwind of trending topics, memes, and heated debates that define it.

Days after former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai created a TikTok account, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), followed suit.

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), argued that he created the TikTok page to engage Nigerians on political issues and his new party’s activities.

El-Rufai in the past few weeks has been vocal on X (formerly Twitter). His screen buzzes with the unrelenting flow of tweets, each competing for attention.

His TikTok page gained significant traction within 24 hours. At the time of this report, he had amassed over 200,000 followers.

For Obi, the 63-year-old stated that he opened the account as part of his commitment to nation-building. As of the time of filing this report, the account had gained over 10k followers. Obi’s announcement video had garnered 30K views, 6K likes, and 2K comments.

There are several TikTok accounts, including parody accounts of President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other politicians which appears to be personally managed by their comms team or they were created and operated by their loyalists.

The duo — Obi and El-Rufai, joining TikTok, illustrate how the power of ordinary citizens, armed with smartphones and social media, can drive significant change and hold those in power and their leaders accountable.

“As usual, our team demonstrated the true Nigerian spirit of strength, resilience and dedication on the field of play. Football, and indeed sports, has remained a strong unifying factor for our nation battling with disunity.

Presidency to Obi: Nigeria’s democracy intact, strengthened

The Presidency has rebutted claims by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate  Peter Obi that democracy in Nigeria has collapsed.

It  called  Obi’s  remarks “hyperbolic” and “lacking logical foundation.”

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said democracy in the country has been strengthened over the past 26 years.

“How can a democracy that has strengthened over the past 26 years be said to have collapsed?” Onanuga asked in a post on his verified X handle @aonanuga1956.

“Only a discontented … Peter, who benefits from the very free speech democracy provides, could perceive such a democratic downfall through his lens,” he added.

Obi had at a colloquium organised by former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, on Monday lamented the state of governance in the country.

However, the Presidency argued that the ability of the former Anambra State governor to freely express such views was in itself proof that democracy remains intact.

“If democracy had indeed collapsed, as Peter claims, and we were living under a regime antithetical to democratic principles, he would not have been able to make his comments,” Onanuga stated.

He urged Obi to be more measured in his public statements, warning against what he described as playing to the gallery.

Presidential aide Bwala slams ‘failed politician’ Peter Obi

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala, has described former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi, as a failed politician.

Bwala claimed that Obi does not even know the meaning of democracy.

The statement comes after the former Anambra Governor claimed that democracy in Nigeria had collapsed.

While speaking at the 60th birthday colloquium of former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, in Abuja on Monday, Obi stated that the progress made since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999 had been eroded.

“If you look at where we are today, it’s like they (the PDP) started in 1999 and laid the foundation. Some people came and took it to the deck, and some people were trying to take it to the first floor when some people came and knocked everything down,” Obi said.

But Bwala on his official X handle slammed the Ex-Governor, questioning his understanding of democracy.

He said that when pro-democracy activists were fighting against military regimes, Obi, whom he described as a failed politician, was engaged in buying and selling.

“It is funny how failed politicians are trying to re-define democracy. @PeterObi said democracy has collapsed. Does he even know the meaning of democracy.

“When people were fighting for democracy, Gregory was buying and selling. He doesn’t have a history of any democratic activism from his school days to date. His expertise lies in instigating hate speech and vitriol,” Bwala said.
