The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said he had receiving more than 400 threats over allegations by the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

The APC spokesman spoke about the severity of the threats yesterday in an interview with Arise Television.

He said: “I have documented no less than 400 threats, about 200 of which are death threats. This is not a joke, and it’s gone further to some members of my family who have also been threatened directly.”

Morka maintained his composure, despite the escalating situation, saying he bore no responsibility for the tensions.

“What has triggered this entire insanity cannot be attributed to me. I did not threaten Peter Obi,” he said emphatically.

The controversy stemmed from Obi’s claim that Morka had threatened his life in a previous interview.

But the APC chieftain denied the allegation, saying his remarks were taken out of context.

He said: “I, Felix Morka, did not threaten Peter Obi. Nothing I said in that interview begins to even suggest remotely [that I did]. I was responding to a very specific question put to me during that interview.”

Also, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said it is unfortunate and misleading for Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Mr. Peter Obi, to claim that APC spokesman Felix Morka threatened his life.

In a statement last night in Abuja, he described the claims as sheer mischief and outright falsehood.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libeled Morka in the extreme and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family,” Ganduje said.

The APC spokesman explained that his description of Obi as a “prophet of doom” was in reaction to what he perceived as misleading statements by the Labour Party stalwart on national television.

“I speak for my party. When Peter Obi comes on national television on a New Year’s Day and reeled out a lot of facts that I consider to be misleading, it is my duty as a national spokesman of APC to clarify,” he said.

Morka urged Obi to rein in his supporters, alleging that many of the threats he had received came from those who openly aligned with Obi.

“These individuals state in their messages that they believe my comments amounted to a threat to Obi’s life.

“If I have followers who go around threatening Felix Morka or anyone else for that matter, I would call them to order,” he said rhetorically. Morka urged law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action against those making the threats, emphasising the need for accountability in the matter.

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed claims of threats to life by the former presidential candidate of the opposition Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi as unfortunate and misleading.

Ganduje, in a statement in Abuja Wednesday night, described the claims as sheer mischief and outright falsehood, which would have been ignored but the need to refute such a baseless narrative.

The APC Chairman expressed displeasure over the claim shared on Obi’s verified official X handle, labeling it as a malicious lie aimed at seeking attention and playing the victim for emotional blackmail.

Ganduje further stated that Obi’s accusations stem from a misrepresentation of remarks by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka during an interview on Arise TV on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

He stated m that at no point did Morka threaten Obi or his family.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libeled Morka in the extreme and incited his online supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family,” Ganduje said.

He emphasised that as a public figure, the LP standard  bearer has a responsibility to provide accurate and truthful information, adding that spreading falsehood undermines public trust.

He noted that Morka was simply discharging his duties as the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, holding opposition actors accountable for their statements, as is expected in a democratic setting.

“Morka’s comments during the interview were strictly in response to a question referencing ‘prophets of doom’ and ‘voodoo economics.’ Nothing in his statement constituted or suggested a threat to Obi or anyone else,” Ganduje clarified.

The APC Chairman further underscored the importance of free speech, a right protected by Nigeria’s Constitution, which applies equally to all Nigerians, including members of the ruling party and therefore called on Obi to refrain from misinformation and to accept criticism as part of the democratic process.

“Does Mr. Obi expect the APC to fold its arms and allow the opposition to propagate falsehoods without any response?” Ganduje queried, stressing that the APC will continue to counter baseless allegations with facts against the Tinubu led government.

Ganduje stated that the party stands by the position of its National Publicity Secretary in his effort to defend the federal government and set the records straight against disinformation by desperate politicians.

Ganduje reiterated the APC’s commitment to upholding democratic principles while holding opposition actors accountable when necessary.

Peter Obi’s comment: I receive over 400 threats, Morka alleges

All Progressives Congress (APC), National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka has alleged receiving more than 400 threats following allegations made by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Morka, over 200 of the threats are death threats, some accompanied by graphic descriptions of harm.

Morka disclosed the severity of the threats in an interview with ARISE NEWS, stating they have been extended to his family.

He said: “I have documented no less than 400 threats, about 200 of which are death threats. This is not a joke, and it’s gone further to some members of my family who have also been threatened directly.”

Morka maintained his composure, despite the escalating situation, asserting that he bore no responsibility for the tensions.

“What has triggered this entire insanity cannot be attributed to me. I did not threaten Peter Obi,” he said emphatically.

The controversy stems from Obi’s claim that Morka had threatened his life during a previous interview. However, Morka firmly denied the allegation, clarifying that his remarks were taken out of context.

He said: “I, Felix Morka, did not threaten Peter Obi. Nothing I said in that interview begins to even suggest remotely [that I did]. I was responding to a very specific question put to me during that interview.”

APC to Obi: You lied, your life is not threatened

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, asserting that neither the party nor its leaders have any intention of threatening his life.

Obi had previously alleged on his verified X handle that his New Year message led to threats against his life, family, and associates.

He also cited comments made by APC’s national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, during an interview on AriseTV’s This Week program on January 4, 2025, where Morka reportedly accused Obi of inciting Nigerians against President Bola Tinubu, warning of consequences.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the APC rejected Obi’s claims, calling them “false and unfounded.”

The party described Obi’s accusation that Morka had threatened his life as a “malicious lie” and an attempt at “attention-seeking, playing-the-victim, emotional blackmail.”

The APC further criticized Obi, accusing him of encouraging his online supporters to direct death threats toward Morka.

The party exonerated Morka from any wrongdoing, emphasizing that he had never threatened Obi or his family.

“Morka did not threaten Mr. Obi or anyone else,” the statement concluded.

It further said: “Morka will continue to hold Obi and other opposition actors accountable for their actions just as they seek to, and should, hold our great Party and administration accountable, when truth and public trust are compromised.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Mr. Obi has libeled Morka in the extreme, and has incited his online mob to make death threats against Morka and members of his family. That is unacceptable.”

Setting the record straight the party gave a verbatim transcription of the relevant clip indisputably attests:

“Arise TV: You have actually hit back with a volley of attacks, calling Peter Obi a prophet of doom. Some of you have said he is always embarking on voodoo economics that are not in line with current realities. Don’t you think that is a slingshot that has gone beyond normal politicking?

“Morka: No, he is the one throwing darts. Mr. Obi is shooting from the hip. He is not looking, he is not taking an aim; he just shoots wildly like what we used to see in movies back in the days in “Wild, Wild West.” He is not being rational, he is absolutely irrational in his thinking and in his commentary for a man who was Governor for eight years and left nothing to remember in Anambra State by way of legacy or transformation. But all of a sudden, he had served as Governor for eight years, he did’t have the wisdom or the smartness to change Anambra State; to the make Anambra the beacon, the example of governance in the country.

“But then he runs for President in 2023, and now that he didn’t win, he is sulking. Rather than get a perspective of what he did to lose so he can get better in future, he thinks that he can bring down the government by being maliciously deceptive. That is wrong. I’m not someone to go on the offensive in that manner. But Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times. And, I think that, at this point, he has coming to him whatever he gets. He should manage it.”

The party argued that Morka’s answer was in the exclusive context of the question. According to APC, “the last sentence of that answer that, “I am not somebody to go on the offensive in that manner, but Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times and I think that at this point he has coming to him, whatever he gets, he needs to manage it”, was in specific and exclusive response to the question’s reference to “prophet of doom” and “voodoo economics”. Again, nothing in that sentence constitutes or suggests a threat to Obi or anyone.”

APC maintained that while everyone has a right to free speech, no one has a right to peddle misinformation or outright falsehood. “The right to free speech granted by our country’s Constitution is not Mr. Obi’s exclusive right but a right that is available to all Nigerians, including Morka. Mr. Obi cannot disseminate misinformation and demand or expect that no one should disagree or challenge his false narrative.

“Ours is a democracy where every citizen, irrespective of the political affiliation, is entitled to agree or disagree with other political views or opinions. More than any other Nigerian in this political dispensation, Mr. Obi has exercised his fundamental liberty to speak and disseminate his political views in person, in the formal and on social media.

“Obi leads a restless band of online mob who continue to attack, intimidate, bully and issue death threats to other citizens who dare disagree or criticize Obi or his opinions or position on any subject or matter of national conversation.  Many eminent and highly respected elder statesmen have been serially attacked, humiliated and bullied by Obi’s online followers. Obi has never condemned their conduct or called them to order.

“Obi must think himself to be Nigeria’s sacred cow, the super citizen,  quintessential, without blemish, beyond reproach, always right, never wrong, and endowed with the supreme and inalienable right to deride, castigate, intimidate blackmail and incite Nigerians against other political leaders who disagree with him, even those who defeated him decisively in the last general election. Mr. Obi is not entitled to any monolithic or exclusive constitutional or extraterrestrial liberty over and above any other citizen.”

Affirming that Obi has truly crossed the line of truth in his many assessments, APC recalled how as LP candidate for the office of President in the last general election, made very bold electoral promises to implement specific economic policies to tackle the country’s economic crisis.

APC recalled that “Mr Obi promised to abolish the system of fuel subsidy from day one. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu abolished the system of fuel subsidy on day one. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Mr. Obi promised to abolish the dual foreign exchange rate system. President Tinubu has abolished the dual exchange rate system. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Mr. Obi promised to transform Nigeria from a consumer to production economy. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria now exports more petroleum and agricultural products than it imports with a record of three consecutive quarter massive trade surplus to show. Obi has continued to lambast and incite Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised he would do if he was elected president. That is crossing the line of truth.

“Crossing the line of truth and peddling false narratives, arrogant unwillingness to acknowledge obvious markers of progress, mobilizing outrage and stoking tension against the government are not exactly the most admirable hallmarks of leadership.

“Peter Obi’s constant flip-flops have crossed a critical line, exposing a disturbing lack of principled commitment. By altering his stance to suit his political interests and drumbeats of the vocal online supporters, Obi undermines his credibility and raises serious concern about his leadership capabilities.

“Nigeria deserves opposition leaders who uphold principle and engage in  fact-based critiques rather than barefaced indulgence in opportunistic and manipulative politics. The trust of the people is sacred, and Obi’s vacillations  demonstrate a willingness to sacrifice this trust for political gain.

“As a public figure, Mr. Obi bears a responsibility to provide accurate and truthful information. Instead, he has chosen to peddle falsehood and mislead Nigerians in quest for political currency and relevance.

“We call on Mr. Obi to immediately set the record straight, withdraw his false allegation against Morka, and call his online supporters to order. Morka, stands ready to explore all available recourse mechanisms in valiant defence of his decency and impeccable reputation,” the party warned.

New Year message: My life under threat, Obi alleges

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 general election Peter Obi says his New Year message has become the cause of threats to his life and that of his family members.

Obi had said in the message that political, economic, and security situation of the country was worsening daily in spite of government’s claims of improvements.

In his response  to the former Anambra State Governor’s claim, All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson warned that: “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets.”

Reacting yesterday to Morka’s statement, Obi asked in a post on his X if he has “really crossed the line.”

He wrote: “I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me. While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of “crossing the line” and has warned that I will face the consequences.

“If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum. However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.”

“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed. May God help us create a better and freer society for the sake of our children.”

He challenged anyone who thinks he has crossed the line to point it out to him where he did, expressing his commitment to upholding decorum.

  • It’s easy to accuse others, Omokri fires at Obi

It’s easy to accuse others, Omokri fires at Obi

Social commentator Reno Omokri has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of excusing himself while accusing others.

Omokri said this in a long post on his official X account.

He mentioned that while President Tinubu has been criticised by Peter Obi for his foreign travels, the trips have yielded an increase in foreign investments.

He wrote, “Mr. Obi talked about the President’s foreign travels. But they are to bring investments to Nigeria, and it is working. FDI has increased by 28% under Tinubu. Because of President Tinubu’s official visit to Brazil, the biggest livestock company on Earth, JBS SA, has already begun investing $2.5 billion in Nigeria.

“Coca-Cola announced in September 2024 that, having foreseen “significant social and economic advancements” in Nigeria under Tinubu, it will invest $1 billion in Nigeria over the next five years. And there are many others.

“Plus, Tinubu’s son, Seyi, is here investing in Nigeria for Nigerians. Where is Peter Obi’s son, Peter Oseloka Obi? And what is he doing, and who is he ‘investing’ in in London?

“President Tinubu is proud of his son, Seyi’s lifestyle of employing thousands of Nigerians through his businesses. Seyi Tinubu is an Omoluabi who adds value to his father’s government and Nigeria. Seyi Tinubu is visible. He is one of us. He mixes with the masses.

“But can the same be said about Peter Obi’s son? Charity begins at home. If Seyi Tinubu is fair game, then let us see Oseloka Obi. Is Obi ashamed of his son’s lifestyle? Would he be willing to throw the spotlight on Oseloka the way he and his Obidients have rudely thrown it on Seyi?

“Why the scrutiny on Seyi Tinubu and the secrecy on Oseloka Obi?

“Asking Tinubu to have his medical in Nigeria is all well and good, especially as Tinubu conceived, initiated, started, completed, and commissioned seven hospitals while he was Lagos Governor. My question to Mr. Peter Obi is this: How many hospitals did he conceive, initiate, start, complete, and commission in the eight years he was Anambra Governor?

“Talk is cheap. It is one thing to accuse others. It is another thing to excuse yourself.”

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi yesterday visited Minna, the Niger State capital, for engagements with two prominent leaders in the town and to reaffirm his commitment to nation-building and unity.

In separate tweets on his X account, Obi said he first visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, at his residence. Describing Babangida as a “father figure, elder statesman, and leader,” Obi said the meeting gave him an opportunity to wish the former military leader a happy New Year and discuss pressing national issues.

“General Babangida’s wisdom and perspectives remain very important. I always deeply appreciate the chance to visit him and listen to his invaluable advice and words of wisdom,” Obi said.

Reiterating his vision for national progress, he added: “A new Nigeria is possible!”

The former Anambra State governor said he also visited erstwhile Niger State governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, to sympathise with him on the recent deaths of his mother and younger sister.

“I extended my heartfelt condolences and emphasised the importance of standing together during challenging times,” Obi wrote.

Obi said he also visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja to wrap up his engagements.

The former governor expressed appreciation for Jonathan’s “patriotic approach to national issues”.

He wrote: “Ex-President Jonathan’s patriotic approach to national issues remains admirable. I appreciate his kind advice and guidance, and I wish him and his family a happy and productive year ahead.”

  • Your assessment misleading, APC berates Obi

Your assessment misleading, APC berates Obi

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has carpeted the New Year message of 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, describing it as misleading and an attempt to score cheap political points.

The governing party put a lie to the allegation by the former Anambra Governor that the political, economic and security situation in the country were worsening daily.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka in a statement in Abuja on Thursday noted that Obi’s assessment was at variance with all indicators that showed that the nation’s economy is rebounding in significant measure across all sectors.

Dismissing the LP former standard bearer, Morka noted: “while Nigerians celebrated the new year with hope for a more glorious 2025, Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, was seemingly stuck in replay of his jangling, gloom-ridden wishlist for our country.

“Obi’s new year message, in which he claimed that the political, economic and security situation of our dear country is worsening daily, is misleading and appears intended to score cheap political points.

“This claim, at a time when all indicators show that our country is rebounding in significant measure across all sectors, casts Obi, squarely, as Nigeria’s leading doomsayer.”

Setting the records of achievements of the APC-led administration, Morka maintained: “In reality, 18 months later, the economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, has showed steady record of progress – massive balance of trade surpluses; trillions in stock market wealth creation; a surge in foreign direct investments as a result of increased confidence in the economy; enhanced foreign reserve; significant decline in debt servicing ratio from 90 percent to about 64 percent; higher incomes for farmers; massive increase in federal allocation to states and local governments; deliberate and patriotic efforts to plug leakages and shore up the nation’s revenue base; restart of moribund Port-Harcourt and Warri refineries; remarkable improvement in oil production and export of petroleum products; the decimation of terrorist leaders and improvement in the security situation, and numerous other measures to meet the $1trillion economy target of this administration.”

The ruling party further argued: “Despite these and other initial beneficial outcomes of ongoing unprecedented reforms, the administration is doubling its effort to ensuring that the reforms deliver their fullest benefits for the sustainable growth and transformation of our country.”

APC recalled the Presidential New Year message acknowledged that the “cost of food and essential drugs remained a significant concern for many Nigerian households.” Stressing that to reverse this trend, Mr. President assured that his administration was committed to lowering food prices by boosting food production and promoting local production of drugs.

The party also highlighted President Tinubu’s resolve to crash the current inflation rate from 34 percent to 15 percent in the course of this fiscal year as a move to addressing the threat inflation poses to the country’s economy.

“With the vigour in the administration’s war on corruption, evidenced by ongoing investigations and trial of  well-heeled Nigerians, Obi’s pontification on the urgent need to tame corruption is a clear case  of carrying coal to Newcastle.”

Faulting the former Anambra Governor, the governing party noted: “It is a thing of irony that Peter Obi, who now arrogates to himself to be omniscient and philosopher’s stone, when it comes to our nation’s challenges, left no record of significant achievement, let alone transformation of any kind, in his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

“Like his co-travellers in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Obi’s obsessive pessimism and endless but futile effort to incite public outrage against the administration is borne out of their realization that President Tinubu is unwittingly cementing their ultimate political irrelevance by his visionary and full-throttle reform and transformation of the fundamental pillars of our national life.

Appealing for citizens support and patience, the ruling party assured Nigerians that ‘under the banner of the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu is dutifully turning our nation’s fortunes around.

“He  deserves the support  and patience of Nigerians in order to consolidate on the deep economic foundation he has laid, and deliver a vibrant, prosperous new Nigeria for the good of all.  We urge Nigerians to remain confident of better days ahead.”
