Fans responsible for PSquare split – Peter Okoye

Afrobeat singer Peter Okoye has attributed the breakup of PSquare to fans’ behavior.

Speaking during the AYLIVE show, Peter stated that constant comparisons between him and brother, Paul, fueled tension and ego issues.

Fans’ favoritism towards one brother over the other created divisions, ultimately leading to the group’s demise.

He said: “Fans are the reasons Psquare no dey together today. Two brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.”

PSquare was a Nigerian musical duo composed of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye.

Formed in 1997, the group rose to fame with hits like “E No Easy,” “Bizzy Body,” and “Personally.”

Known for their energetic performances and catchy Afrobeats, PSquare became one of Africa’s most successful musical acts.

In 2017, PSquare officially disbanded after years of internal conflicts and public feuds.

The twins had been managed by their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who also owned a significant share of their company, PClassic Label.

Disputes over management, finances, and creative direction strained their relationship.

Peter Okoye slams family after testifying against Brother in court

Singer Peter Okoye, one half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, has openly criticised his family after testifying against his elder brother, Jude Okoye, who is currently facing money laundering charges.

Jude and Northside Music Limited are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of laundering N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.

In a post shared via his Instagram story on Tuesday, Peter said he prioritises his mental health above all else, questioning the real meaning of family.

He insisted that true family bonds should be rooted in love, loyalty, and trust—not manipulation, betrayal, or theft.

Peter described toxic family dynamics as exhausting and disgraceful, declaring that he would no longer sacrifice his peace of mind for anyone.

He wrote: “Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you’re drowning in silence. I did – for over 20 years plus. And it almost cost me everything,” the 43-year-old wrote.

“But now I know better – love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray and family does not steal from you. Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all.

“Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive”.

Peter Okoye not responsible for Jude’s fraud woes, says management

Peter Okoye aka Mr P’s manager, Emem Emma, has dismissed allegations by his twin brother, Paul Okoye for being responsible for their elder brother, Jude Engees Okoye’s fraud woes.

In a recent statement, Emem insisted that the case is between EFCC and Jude.

“I don’t know Peter is on this issue. And I don’t think he has any comment on this issue. The case is between the EFCC, based on their investigation, and Jude Okoye.

“I don’t see how Peter Okoye has anything to do with it. We have no comment on this matter. Peter didn’t drag anybody to the EFCC.

“The petition was against the company that has been receiving funds on his behalf. And he knew nothing about it. Don’t mix up issues, and let’s not create issues where they are not.”

Regarding whether any conditions were attached to the case, she added: “The EFCC was the one that received all of this, so I think it’s best to speak to them to know the facts of the case, and their findings.

On February 26, 2025, Jude Okoye and his company, North Music Limited, were arraigned on a seven-count charge of money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million and £34,537.59.

On Friday, February 28 after the court hearing to grant Jude bail, Paul addressed the media to claim his twin brother, Peter was responsible for their elder brother’s legal woes.

Peter Okoye reacts to alleged song ownership by twin brother

Peter Okoye, one half of music duo P Square, has responded to allegations made by his twin brother Paul over ownership of a new song “Winning.”

Peter shared a detailed account of the song’s creation, clarifying his role and collaboration with others, including Ghanaian producer Vampire and songwriter Calypso.

He questioned Paul’s claims, citing their agreed-upon creative process and Paul’s removal of his (Peter’s) vocals from joint songs.

Peter also addressed his temporary break from music, stating he took time to recharge before returning with “Winning.”

He wrote on X: “If you have followed my journey as a solo artiste and even before, you will notice that I give people their due credit where necessary as I am a firm believer in team work; I know my strengths, where I need assistance or guidance I am not afraid to ask or work with those who are strong in the areas I am not; this includes the process of creating music, executing concepts and ideas etc. I will always give people their due credit for their contributions to my projects.

“Sometime in June 2022, I stumbled upon a producer based in Ghana named Vampire, and had my team and I also personally reached out to him via DM, that I liked his work and was interested in working with him. Before getting him to Lagos, I presented the idea of this producer to my twin brother and our team, getting their buy in before I got him flight tickets and flew him to Lagos.

“It was when he got into Lagos I asked if he would be open to working on P-SQUARE’s next album project, that the 5 songs I had penned down from my end to be presented to our A&R team for the album project these were: JAIYE, WINNING, FIND SOMEBODY, LEGENDARY, and ATTENTION, based on tracks he had produced.

“We started with my own 5 songs that needed to be submitted for PSQUARE’s album, which he produced for me: The idea for WINNING came from one of his beats that I discovered. I came up with the idea of changing the chord progression from the original version to what it is today with my own producer Goldswarm who is the co-producer of the song WINNING.

“I had also engaged a songwriter known as CALYPSO who wrote and composed the song WINNING and sent it to me on the beats through a voice note. And we started working on the song. Mind you, he worked on some other songs that were to make the album as well, so my brother was aware of his input to the production as we were all in the studio during this period.

“Then when my twin brother heard the song WINNING, which we had already created the hook/chorus for, he then wanted to start creating a verse. Our agreed-on process for each song presented by us was: arrange the song, leave a verse for the other person, then we both harmonise the chorus and refrain bits together. He wasn’t supposed to until Calypso and I finished it as part of my own song submission to the LEGENDARY ALBUM.

“After that, we finished and shared verses among ourselves. I do not wish to get into details of why the album didn’t see the light of day till date but it takes a different level of psychosis for one to steal what is theirs already; as since the release of this song, I have been labeled and called all sorts online and they have even gone as far as asking for the song to be taken down on various platforms, to what end?

“It was never part of his 5, now 6 (according to him) songs for submission, yet when he felt I was not interested in making music because I chose my sanity over the constant berating and drama that seemed to come up over creative direction in the group.

“If it were his song, why do I have all the music data including initial conversations and picture/video evidence on the above-mentioned titles/songs? Which of his songs do I have its data in my possession in that case? All because he was hoping for me to quit music. Even when I learnt that he had removed my vocals on songs we did together, suggesting that he sing the entire songs including the ones that he planned to present for the album without my input (a very absurd idea as we both make up the duo not just the one), but we both perform them on stage, I begun to have a rethink of the entire situation. Let me leave this here.

“Maybe because I was not posting anything music related on my social media page for over 4 months. He believes I have lost interest in music. I took a breather to get my mind and head in the right space and when that was done, my epiphany was WINNING!”.

Peter Okoye writes brother amid ongoing feud

Singer Peter Okoye (Mr. P) has written an open letter to his twin brother Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) in response to Paul’s recent interview about their second split.

Mr. P addressed Paul’s claims that he wrote 99% of P-SQUARE’s songs and discredited Paul’s statement that their song “EjeAjo” was a failure.

Mr. P lists several successful songs he wrote and contributed to, feeling undervalued and disrespected by Paul’s comments.

Mr. P emphasised that P-Square’s success was due to their combined efforts and unique unity, not individual talent.

He expressed disappointment that Paul has turned their decorated music group into a laughingstock again.

Mr. P praised Paul’s songwriting ability but said Paul should show gratitude instead of rubbing it in his face.

Mr P said in part: “My dear brother Paul,

Just like I have told you several times, I am not in any competition with you or anybody else. However, seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly

discredit my efforts in the group that we both created and built together really speaks volumes. In your recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-SQUARE songs and discredited me by saying that our song with Tl “EjeaJo,” which I wrote, was a failure. You went as far as using the YouTube views to discredit me once again. You never acknowledged the other songs like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Roll It,” “Temptation,” “Alingo,” “More than a Friend,” “Shekini,” “Say Your Love,” “Gimme Dat,” “Senorita,” “IGBEdu,” and a few others. Were these songs also considered failures as well?

“Every time I have spoken in interviews about P-SQUARE, I have always used “we” and “us” because I saw us as a team. But whenever you speak, it’s always “l” and “me,” even when I’m standing right beside you. It’s as if I never existed. My brother, neither of us is the most talented artist in the world, but you fail to understand that God gave us this talent and even granted us another chance to excel after our last breakup. Instead, you chose to turn the most awarded and decorated music group in Africa into a laughingstock again.

“One thing you need to understand clearly is that the fans didn’t fall in love with P-SQUARE because of who sang or danced the most. What made us special was the magic that came from our combined effort – us two! P-SQUARE was a force, and the fans fell in love with P-SQUARE because of our uniqueness and unity.

“We both have talents, no doubt, and I have often praised you in our interviews for your songwriting ability. I have also praised anyone who has ever written a song for us or even for me as Mr. P. But instead of showing gratitude for my kind words, you seem to find satisfaction in rubbing it in my face, forgetting that it is by God’s grace that we have come this far”.
