Each player and technical crew of Kano Pillars became N100,000 richer after defeating Dolphins 1-0 in one of the Week 37 Glo Premier League matches played at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday. Home- based Super Eagles player, Gambo Mohammed’s solitary strike moved the Pyramid City outfit closer to retaining their league crown. Club Chairman, Abba Yola gave the team comprising 18 players and five technical crew the money immediately after the encounter.

According to him, the donation was part of ways to motivate the team ahead of their last league game against Lobi Stars. The players initial winning bonus was N20,000 but the chairman said the additional N80,000 is the management’s plan to ensure that the team is in high spirit for the all important match against the Makurdi based side.

“I’m very happy with this result and that was why the management decided to increase the bonus. We, however, believe it’s not over until it’s over and we have to make sure that the team is well motivated ahead of our last game against Lobi Stars in Markurdi”, Yola told SportingLife after the match.

“We are still on course to winning the title, it is not over until it is over, we have two games to go. So, we are working hard. I call all our fans to keep faith with us and be praying for us.”

He also stated that the same 20 players that travelled to Lokoja’s Confluence Stadium to face the Peoples Elephant would be available again to show the Savannah Scorpions their new found form.

“We have arrived Gombe and are poised to beat Gombe United tomorrow(today). In terms of motivation, the players have said the urge to win the league title again is enough zeal to propel them to victory against Gombe United.

Kano Pillars have boosted their chances of retaining the league title they won last season with a stoppage time winning goal against Enyimba at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja yesterday.

It was the replay of the hitherto botched Matchday 31 Glo League tie decided September 11 which was then marred by the encroachment of kano fans onto the pitch.

Manir Ubale came on from the bench to score the vital goal in the 90th minute of the game.

The game was a case of two halves with each belonging to both teams. Enyimba gained the upper hand and were guilty of near misses in the first half while Pillars came out more forcefully in the second half when the Aba Millionaires put their legs off the pedal. Pillars eventually got the match-winner at the end through impressive Ubale.

The strike, which was off a throw-in from the flank, was helped in by the head of Ubale after the Peoples Elephant’s defender couldn’t clear an on air ball.

Pillars are on top of the league by the virtue of their win over Enyimba as they move to 60 points from 35 games while Bayelsa United and El Kanemi Warriors are second and third with 58 and 57 points respectively.

He said the club would approach the remaining three matches with so much optimism and confidence that they would be victorious.

“We are happy with this win. We thank God for the win. This victory is for our fans and all lovers of football. We are going to approach the rest of the matches with high expectations that we shall carry the day,”Malikawa stated.

    Replay order thrills Pillars

Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars, have expressed satisfaction with the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appeal committee.

The Appeal Committee of NFF has ordered that the abandoned Week 31 game between the Sai Masugida and the People’s Elephants be replayed.

The encounter was inconclusive last month as fans of the Kano-based club entered the pitch to celebrate the goal Gambo Mohammed scored at the death.

Enyimba, who are six-time Nigerian champions, had earlier been awarded the three points and three goals for the duel by the NFF’s O&D.

But that decision has, however, been quashed by the Appeal Committee of the NFF which has ordered that the said fixture be replayed on Wednesday at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.

The tie would likely determine the side that would be crowned champions for the 2013 Nigeria Professional Football League, and Kano Pillars head coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru is optimistic that the Elephants would fall in Lokoja.

“I am excited with the appeal committee’s decision and I think the tie is open as it will be played on a neutral ground, but we will beat Enyimba hands down,”. Ganaru said to supersport.com.

Enyimba on the other hands are not happy with the latest development and therefore questioned the competency of the NFF appeal committee.

“This is injustice and I think all football fans knows that we have being cheated,” Enyimba gaffer, Salisu Yusuf told supersport.com on Friday.

    Pillars vow to crush Enyimba

Kano Pillars head coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru has said his wards will beat Enyimba for the three points in the rescheduled Glo Premier League Matchday 31 tie at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Wednesday.

The nation’s final arbiter on domestic football, the NFF Appeals Committee on Thursday upturned the organising and disciplinary committee’s decision to award three points and three goals to the Aba Millionaires in the contentious game by ordering both sides to return to the pitch to decide the winners.

The League Management Company had earlier ruled for a replay of the encounter on September 29 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Kano Pillars were one goal up scored by prolific striker, Gambo Mohammed in the 83rd minute before crowd trouble forced the game to an abrupt end but when both sides reconvene on Wednesday for the replay the game will go on for 90 minutes.

Ganaru said his side are not bothered where the replay takes place as he is confident they will certainly win the three points at stake.

“I’m certain that my wards will beat Enyimba for the three points any day, anywhere, any place the game is played.

“So we’re not worried, we just have to go back to our armoury to fashion out a suitable weapon that will decision Enyimba, the replay order is an opportunity for us to re-confirm our supremacy in the game before it was disrupted.

“We have our focus intact and will fight hard to defend the league shield we won last year,” said Ganaru to supersport.com.

An official of the Pyramid City side, Idris Malikawa said the rescheduled game will decide the winners of the ongoing league season.

“It’s pointless to argue whether one likes or dislikes the decision of the NFF Appeals Committee knowing quite well the body is the final arbiter, we’ve decided to work within the ambit of their decision to prepare for the replay order.

“The rescheduled match will definitely be the final before the final, it won’t be easy to replay the game against a formidable side like Enyimba.

“We’ve accepted the replay order as a tough challenge, we have to re-plan and motivate the players. I know Allah will see us through win the three points,” said Malikawa to supersport.com.

    Pillars/Kwara game continues 9am today

The League Management Company (LMC) has stated that the Globacom Premier League match day 35 game between Kano Pillars and Kwara United will continue today at 9.am.

SportingLife gathered that the game at the Kaduna Township Stadium was called off in the 32nd minute by the match official with consultations with the teams and match commissioner because of a heavy downpour that made the pitch waterlogged and as such didn’t aid the free flow of the ball as it couldn’t bounce.

Recall the coach Babaganaru side were up following an own-goal scored in the sisth minute by Kwara United defender, Uche John.

Pillars media officer, Idris Malikawa said: “We are very much on course to acheiving our target for the season so playing the other part of the game today won’t make us lose focus as the ground we feel is favourable for the team.

“The fans in Kaduna have shown us massive support, nonetheless our own fans who troop into town from Kano.”

  • Honour for ‘pillars’

    Honour for ‘pillars’

ALL those honoured at this year’s Eyegate Media Limited awards, at the Arakan Barracks, Apapa, Lagos had one thing in common: They are residents of Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb, who have made their marks in the area. And it was deliberate, says Mazi Edwards Ndukwe, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer.

According to him, to some, the mere mention of Ajegunle (popularly known as Aje City) signifies an area populated by miscreants or troublemakers. He said: “We are here to appreciate those who have contributed to the development of this place. We want to show that Ajegunle people are not violent; that in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, there are people God has blessed and are using their wealth and other resources to develop the place.”

He said the youth of Ajegunle are also using their resources to improve their lot and the place. ‘’One of them, who is less than 40, has 40 employees. Instead of living a life of violence, smoking Marijuana, he trained himself to be useful to the society,” Ndukwe said. It is for this and other reasons that his firm called them community pillars.

Congratulating the awardees, he added: “If we have resources and use them for the betterment of society, there will be peace for all of us.” Quoting the late business mogul, Chief MKO Abiola, Ndukwe said: ’’If we all have the same resources, there will be no need to steal from each other.”

Although there was no high table at Mess, venue of the ceremony, it was never a dull moment for the four hours or so the event lasted. Every one sat together, showing equality of life. Not even the awardees were quarantined in a special corner or space.

The event started with a fashion parade which was applauded by all. Except for some linguistic sloppiness, the Ghanaian Masters of Ceremony (MCs) gave a good account of themselves. Both the comedian and an artiste known as Dawoo spiced the day with good performances.

The awardees of the Seventh edition of the event were Chief Emmanuel Oluremilekun Folorunsho, a lawyer and political activist; Magaret Uzo Isinguzo of Wazobia FM; Mr Opadeji Peyemi Olumide, Steve Akpos, Lucky Asubaja, a community crime fighter; Mrs Elizabeth Ehigiamusoe, a gospel musician and wife of the Chairman, Micro Investment Support Services Limited; Pastor Dolly, a gospel musician and cleric; Chief Simeon Mbanefo, proprietor, Peace Fashion and Domestic Centre, Ajegunle; Francis Amos Udoh, the Coordinator, Action Committee of Friends, Olodi-Apapa, Jerome Nwokwo, Zonal Board Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Editorial Board, Ifelodun Zone and Chief Lanre Olatunde.

There were also awards for some organisations. They included Positive Change Organisation (POCO) , Asociation of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) and Larry Place Event Centre.

As the awardees filed for their citations and awards, they were greeted with applause, indicating that they made some impact in the area. For example, when it wsa the turn of Folorunso, 84, and a former Associate Professor of Law, there was no doubt in any one one’s mind that he deserved the award. He received more applause for not only being one of the founders and ‘pillars’ of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), but for also teaching his former Headmaster (HM), a fact the MC alluded to from time to time.

Chief Folurunsho said: “I have got awards in many places in Lagos, but this one in Ajegunle is notable. My mother started politics here in 1946 and since then, I have monitored events here.” He promised to assist Eyegate.

Mrs Ehigiamusoe was not only satisfied with her award, she gave back to society the stuff she was made of when she thrilled guests with some selected songs from her album. She sang both in her native Ibo and her husband’s language Edo, despite being ‘ill’. She said her song Suru means patience and another God the Great Traveller

Pastor Dolly said: ‘’I love to give joy, hope to the hopeless. I will love to do that in the community. I will talk with my GO to do something for this community.”

After all said and done, it was obvious that the mess was too small for the event in future, a point Ndukwe noted.
