Dangote sells cement on Jumia platform

Dangote Cement yesterday said it has taken its product to e-commerce platform, Jumia, to combat charlatans who rip off customers with fake claims about pricing.

Key Accounts Director at Dangote Cement, Chux Mogbolu, who spoke during a press conference organised by Jumia Nigeria to unveil the milestones achieved by Jumia during ongoing Black Friday, said the partnership was between two great brands and it was designed to bring ease to customers.

“This partnership is for life. A bag of cement on the platform is only N2,500 and it includes the cost of freighting and offloading to the warehouse of the customers. Convenience and reliability are assured. This will hopefully address online scammers who say the sell the product for N1000 per bag and never do anything. The consignment will be delivered within 48 hours,” Mogbolu said.

He said the company would be starting the pilot project with 300 bags while hoping reduction in the minimum order quantity (MOQ) would go down in the future.

Chief Executive Officer, Jumia, Juliet Anammah, said its 2017 Black Friday Festival has attracted more than 14 million visits since the campaign started November 13.

The annual sales event, which was initiated in Nigeria in 2013 by Jumia remains the busiest and largest shopping day of the year on both online and offline stores.

    Konga.com becomes pre-paid only platform

Konga.com has announced its decision to become an exclusive pre-paid platform. This decision was taken as part of its measures to become more efficient and to focus on the orders that consumers really want.

Chief Executive Officer, Konga.com, Mr. Shola Adekoya said the company had in recent years explored several solutions for payment and ecommerce in Nigeria and concluded that pre-payment is the necessary approach for its business and the market.

According to him, given the cost of inflation and increasing challenges managing payment-on-delivery, as well as the resulting level of order cancellations on the platform, the company had to take the decision on pre-payment.

“We will continue to review other ways to provide payment-on-delivery to customers, but for the time being, we will remain a pre-paid only platform.”

  • Online referral platform takes off

Are you in need of medical consultation or a quick referral? DoctorsHub Nigeria can assist.

The online platform was founded by Dr. Damian Avar, who felt that the dismal doctor-to-patient ratio (1:4000-6000) in the country, caused by a deficit of doctors, could be mitigated by leveraging technology. DoctorsHub Nigeria was launched last November.

Avar conceived the idea during his final year at the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. With only seven doctors at inception, DoctorsHub Nigeria has grown, having over 20 doctors, all of them registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

The group provides the best online medical consultancy for free daily. With its team of seasoned doctors and specialists, the hub simplifies the challenge of getting expert medical consultation/advice to only a phone call or and SMS. To have wider coverage and accessibility, consultations on the platform are  conducted in English, pidgin, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba. This has ensured that people, who would not have accessed the service due to language barrier, are able to. And in line with the code of medical ethics, patient confidentiality is adhered to.

Avar said: “We also are very passionate about educating Nigerians about relevant health issues and conditions. As they say, prevention is better than cure. Via our blog, we have been able to consistently publish very easy-to-read-and-understand health articles devoid of medical jargons. We are also extending the success of offering consultations/advice in local dialects to our health articles as well. With the goal to get more readerships, we have commenced works and started recruiting health writers with the requisite language skills to write or translate our articles into local dialects. In four months of operation, we have been able to attend to over 650 people who have called on us, at times in the dead of the night, with one form of medical complaint or the other. This is despite the fact that we have never sponsored any advert, either on social media, print, or TV/Radio announcing our services.”

He said in line with its vision to save lives, DoctorsHub Nigeria has launched some suicide distress lines. This is to ensure that suicide attempters are reported to avert such tragedies.

Avar said: “Based on our work and impressive results,  TechPoint.ng  recently featured us on its platform via: https://techpoint.ng/2017/03/21/doctorshub-nigeria-profile/. The goal is to reach a stage where we can conveniently be attending to a minimum of 100, 000 medical complaints yearly. That is a huge goal, but we believe it is not impossible. With this, majority of the general hospitals would be significantly decongested and the resources there utilised more effectively to serve those who really and truly require them. We hope to cut down avoidable patients’ visits to health centres by at least 25 percent within the next 24 months.

“We expect that the federal and state governments will see the immense opportunity in this initiative and key into it and provide Nigerians with a decent health care delivery system. There is a lot more we can do better, a lot more. With the necessary support, what we have now can be used to transform the  health sector for the better in no more than five years from now.

‘’The online consultations/advice will not replace the generic offline, in-hospital consultations.

‘’Of course, those ones will always come first. Very often, we refer patients who need to be examined by a doctor to accredited health facilities for the examinations and tests.

  • Beyond Peter Obi’s speech at platform

Beyond Peter Obi’s speech at platform

Then I invited the former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to speak at the 2016 edition of Platform Nigeria’, I had not met him before. In fact, I only met him in person for the first time two hours before his speech on October 1. But his intervention on the waste that defines governance in our country today has touched a very deep nerve with many Nigerians, including me.

Indeed, I strongly believe that the political elite will be making a big mistake if they think the landscape will remain the same after such a revealing presentation. The pertinent question here is: Why is an accusation of waste of scarce public resources so significant when it comes to governance? As a pastor, I will say it is because there are parallels to draw even from the Bible.

In Luke chapter 16, verses 1and 2 (NIV), The Lord Jesus Christ told the parable of “a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’”

The import of that story is simple: Once it is established that a steward is a waster, he/she loses every moral authority to govern or lead. This is one of the hidden laws through which our Creator governs the affairs of men. Jesus just came to demonstrate that to us.

There is something about God in His dealings with us, particularly with the ruling class, which can be summed up as, if the people don’t cry out to Him, He doesn’t get involved. However, once a legitimate voice(s) is heard in heaven God begins to show His hand in the affairs of men; showing to us as He did with Nebuchadnezzar that He reigns in the affairs of men.

Historically, the political class in Egypt went untouched until God said He heard the groaning of the people. We can find that in Exodus chapter 6: verses 5 and 6: “And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments.”

There are several other Biblical passages which reveal hwo and when God intervenes and the consequences for bad leaders. From Judges Chapter 2 verse 18 (…for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them”) to Job chapter 34 verses 28 to 30 (So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted. When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only: That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared).

We can go on and on in the Scriptures to show that it is only when the people cry out that God gets involved by showing His hands. Even in the story of the unforgiving servant, it took others to report to the master for him to get involved. But the cry of wastage in governance is a cry the Lord responds to and it is not about the perfection of the one who cries. It is about the perfect timing of an accurate cry.

Therefore, it must be clear to every Nigerian at home and in the Diaspora that a sound has gone out on a serious abuse of public trust. The steward i.e. the political office holder must understand what a voice of accusation concerning wastage means when the Master of the earth in which we live in hears it. And to go back to the Biblical account, the unfaithful servant knew in very clear terms he was going to lose his position so he started weighing other options available to him.

His response, as recorded in Luke chapter 16, verse 3: “Then the steward said within himself, what shall I do? For my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed”.

The steward was left with two options: to become a digger or a beggar. It was very clear to the steward that the choices he had made while serving, especially how he (mis)managed the resources now had consequences. The cry of those who were at the receiving end of his misrule was now going to make him lose political power

I hope all the office holders in our country (whether in the private sector or in the public arena) can hear what the Spirit is saying: the cry of accusation in the area of wastage is an accurate voice that changes the game. It is important that Nigerians make the adjustments before the Lord shows His hand in the affairs of our country and it becomes too late to change. God bless Nigeria.

  • Firm unveils first online auction platform

One Naira Integrated Resources Ltd, owners of i-naira.com brand, has launched the first online auctioning platform in Nigeria.

The firm is a wholly owned Nigerian company with speciality in consumer sales promotion. It was established to deliver  value bargains to under-served consumers across the country. Speaking on the innovative platform, Hillary Nwaukor, CEO, i-naira.com, said it was founded to fill a yawning gap in the market, which is delivery of value bargains to consumers.

He noted that the company through its auctioning platform will act as a middle man between merchants/vendors and consumers seeking for value bargains online. “Our goal is to help companies reach a broader consumer base across the country beyond their traditional audience and channels.

“Our robust self-aware intelligent platform, i-naira.com, offers bargain merchandise in categories that include fashion, electronics, household items, automobiles and real estate, using promotions and auctioning as tools,” Nwaukor said.

He pointed out that in auctioning, prices can start at zero but an auction will only close at a price within the agreeable terms between i-naira.com and the vendor that provided the item for sale. He emphasised that “some auctions are absolute while others are reserved”. Effectively, what this means is that an absolute auction can start and close at any amount and the last bidder wins the item but a reserved bid can start at any amount but must close at a reserved price acceptable by the vendor or at an amount higher before a winner can emerge.

All deals on i-naira.com starts at N5000 only. Hillary Nwaukor disclosed that  i-naira.com have also been recognised and encouraged by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the recent invitation to share its innovation story with start-up companies and investors at a forum organised in Abuja in July by the Office for ICT Innovation & Entrepreneurship (OIIE) under the auspices of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). The company also signed a major deal that gives i-naira.com the exclusive rights to auction Austin Jay-Jay Okocha’s memorabilia for his foundation, the Jay-Jay Okocha Foundation the same month.

When asked on abuse of the system by those who may bid for items and refuse to pay for them, he highlighted that there are measures in place to mitigate against such occurrence.  For instance, to use the platform, there is  one-time registration fee of N2, 000. This deters unserious customers from using the platform. Secondly, when a bid is won and bidder refuses to pay, the account is suspended until a mandatory 15per cent penalty calculated from the final bid on the item is paid.

After unveiling its pre-launch campaign in February, i-naira.com has successfully collated over 300,000 re-marketable data from Nigerians interested in wares auctioned and has recorded  an average monthly hit of three million visitors to its website. The company’s micro-blogging handle is also verified by Twitter.

A member of Certified Institute of Auctioneers, Nigeria (CIAN), i-naira.com is adjudged the first technologically driven auction platform in Nigeria by the Certified Institute of Auctioneers, Nigeria.

  • NIPOST floats e-commerce platform

The Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST) has called on Nigerians to make use of its e-commerce platform to conduct businesses and increase their income base.

The Ekiti Area Postal Manager, Mrs. Ijeoma Akinwumi, who made the call at a briefing to mark the first anniversary of its creation, said the agency also operates e-banking services as part of measures to diversify its operations.

Mrs. Akinwumi said: “The advent of telecommunication in Nigeria has helped Postal Services to diversify its operations extensively.

“As a result of the coming into operation of telecommunication, we now have e-banking and e-commerce almost in every area of life.

“When doing e-commerce, you must have a physical place where items can be sent and collected; the Nigeria Postal Services offers this opportunity.”
