    Kano police arrest 157 suspects, recover weapons, drugs in four-week crackdown

    The Kano State Police Command has arrested 157 criminal suspects in connection with various offences over the last four weeks, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced on Wednesday.

    The arrests include 24 suspected armed robbers, 14 drug dealers, seven motor vehicle thieves, five motorcycle thieves, 28 general thieves, and 79 suspected thugs, popularly known as Yan Daba.

    Recovered during the operations were two English pistols, 19 fabricated revolver rifles, a locally made pistol, 117 live cartridges, six expended cartridges, and 11 live rounds of ammunition. Also seized were 57 cutlasses, 71 sharp knives, 15 metal rods (Dan Bida), seven scissors, two axes, and a bow, among other weapons.

    In addition to the weapons, police also recovered two stolen vehicles, two tricycles, three motorcycles, tramadol tablets valued at N150 million, six cartons of Ampicillin, 22 bottles of “suck and die,” and 69 sachets and 260 pieces of Exol tablets.

    Commissioner Bakori, who assumed office on March 17, said he was briefed on the security challenges facing the state and deemed it critical to tackle the growing threat of violent crimes, armed robbery, drug abuse (Kwaya), and gang-related activities (Fadan Daba).

    “Over the past four weeks, the Command intensified intelligence-led joint operations, round-the-clock visibility patrols and initiated strategic partnerships with community members.

    “The proactive and collaborative efforts are yielding positive results and of the successes recorded are the breakthroughs that led to the dismantling of criminal networks that specialized in smuggling of firearms into the state.

    “In order to ensure peace continue to prevail in the State, we have planned to conduct series of community-based

    engagements and intelligence-led operations at strategic locations in the State with a view to prevent crimes andmaintain law and order,” Bakori said encouraged residents to always cooperate with the police.

    Police declare daughter of ABC transport owner wanted

    The Nigeria Police Force has declared wanted Ihuoma Julia Nneji, a daughter of the founder of the popular ABC Transport, Frank Nneji, for alleged cyber crime.

    Nneji was declared wanted Tuesday night by the office of the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Center, (NPF NCCN), Abuja as posted on the Force official Facebook page.

    According to the ‘wanted’ post, the Police listed her offences to include “criminal deformation, injurious falsehood and cyber stalking.”

    It was learnt she and her friends engaged in cyber bullying and blackmailing of an Abuja businessman (name with held) from August to September 2024.

    Following the alleged online blackmailing, social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, aka Verydarkman, on September 24, 2024, in a strong warning video post, gave Miss Nneji 24 hours to retract her post and apologise to the businessman, threatening to go after her with evidence if she refuses to tender an apology within the given time frame.

    Niger Police recover 900 bags of diverted cement, convict one suspect

    The Niger State Police Command has recovered 900 bags of cement, valued at over N9 million, suspected to have been diverted from its delivery route, and secured the conviction of one of the suspects involved in the theft.

    According to a statement from the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the cement was intercepted on April 5, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. by a police surveillance patrol team attached to the Bosso Division. 

    Acting on credible intelligence, the team stopped a trailer truck with registration number NDG 161 XA at Garima Junction in Bosso. The truck, loaded with cement from Obajana in Kogi State, was initially bound for Maiduguri, Borno State.

    Upon investigation, it was revealed that the truck had been criminally diverted to Garima Bosso with the intent to sell the cement.

    One suspect, Abdullahi Basiru from Sokoto State, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, Basiru confessed to being the motor boy to the driver, Ibrahim Yusuf, who remains at large. 

    He further admitted that he and the driver, in conspiracy with another accomplice, planned to sell the cement and abandon the truck.

    Basiru was arraigned in court on April 9, 2025, for criminal conspiracy and theft. He was found guilty and sentenced to 10 months in prison without the option of a fine.

    The recovered cement truck has been returned to the company through a court order, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver continue.

    Police kill four suspected kidnappers in Delta

    Police operatives attached to Delta Command, last Thursday arrested one Abubakar Usman popularly known as Shehu, who was identified as the leader of a deadly kidnapping gang.

    Upon interrogation, police said the suspect confessed to multiple crimes including the kidnap of a medical doctor at Issele-uku, the abduction of the wife and daughter of Mr Godwin Anuka at Ogwashi-Uku and his subsequent murder as well as the kidnap and murder of Ms Esther Ojoh at Ibusa. 

    The suspect further led operatives to the gang’s hideout in a forest along Asaba/Agbor expressway where the operatives encountered the rest of the gang and came under heavy fire. 

    According to a statement on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in the ensuing gun duel, the operatives successfully neutralized 4 members of the gang and recovered 3 AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of Live Ammunition. 

    Adejobi said: “The Nigeria Police Force in its quest to sustain the tempo on the fight against violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and banditry, has again recorded significant successes across the country.

    “In another development in Kano State, on the 10th of April 2025, Police operatives attached to the State Command, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Abdul Sadiq ‘m’ 43 yrs, Ahmad Muazu ‘m’ 22 yrs, and Aliyu Sharif ‘m’ 40 yrs at Dorayi babba, Kano State. Further investigation led to the recovery of 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and 6 expended cartridges from the suspects. 

    “Investigations are being intensified to locate the factory where these illegal arms are being produced and arrest other culprits.

    “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, again commended the bravery, professionalism and resolve of these gallant operatives for the feats recorded; and reassured members of the public that the Force has made it a mandate to curb violent crimes that threaten national peace and security”.

    Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Durumi Division, have arrested three suspected car theft syndicates.

    The suspects—Steven Musa, David Dalyol (a painter), and Ibrahim Mohammed (a mechanic)—were arrested in Durumi.

    During interrogation, police said the suspects confessed to being members of a car theft syndicate operating across Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari axis of the FCT.

    They admitted to stealing several vehicles, refurbishing them, and reselling them as newer models.

    A statement issued on Sunday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josphine Adeh said: “On April 11, 2025, following a distress call received by Durumi Division regarding the theft of a Toyota Corolla, 2005 model, gold in colour, with registration number KUJ 208 DA, stolen from the owner’s residence, operatives of the Division immediately swung into action.

    “The vehicle was tracked to a workshop in Durumi, where it was discovered undergoing illegal refurbishment. The colour was being altered in an attempt to evade detection and facilitate a quick resale. A further search of the premises led to the recovery of another suspected stolen vehicle—a red Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 844 CK—previously reported stolen from a residence in Jikwoyi.”

    The suspects, Adeh said, are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

    She said: “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, urges vehicle owners to install tracking devices and other anti-theft systems to aid prompt recovery efforts.

    Police probe DPO accused of extortion

    The Police Command in Ondo State has begun investigation into the allegation of extortion levelled against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Igbara-Oke in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, Ganiyu Dauda.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that residents of the community on Friday protested against alleged extortion by the DPO and operatives in the division.

    The protesters who were carrying leafs, blocked the main road leading to the community to show their grievances.

    Speaking with NAN on Saturday in Akure, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said that investigation has commenced on the allegation of extortion levelled against the DPO.

    Ayanlade urged anybody with useful information on the allegation of extortion against the DPO to make it available to the command.

    ”The command has launched an investigation into the details of the event and the alleged extortion.

    “Although nobody has come forward to lay any report concerning the allegation against the DPO. Anybody that has concrete evidence against the DPO or any of our men, should please come forward with the fact.

    “And we will let the public know the outcome of our investigation.

    “We urge the people of the state to remain law abiding ,” he said.

    He attributed the event leading to the protest to a misunderstanding between some members of the driver’s union and some policemen over the towing of an accident vehicle into the premises of Igbara-Oke Divisional Police station.

    Ayanlade explained that the issue was eventually resolved by the chairman of the local government. (NAN)

    Police arrest alleged killer of Ondo businessman

    The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested the suspected killer of Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, a businessman in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

    Sumaila, who dealt in building materials, was killed by gunmen at his residence opposite Caring Heart Mega School, Idi mango area, Ore, on March 1.

    DSP Ayanlade Olushola, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Akure.

    Olushola said that the prime suspect was arrested on April 10, in Osogbo, Osun, through discreet investigation.

    “The arrest was made after a painstaking manhunt led operatives back to Ore.

    “A locally-made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with criminal charms, were recovered during a search of the suspect’s premises,” he said.

    He assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in ridding Ondo State of criminals.

    Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday killed five armed bandits and recovered seven operational motorcycles used by the bandits in their criminal activities.

    The police also rescued a kidnapped university student.

    A statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi read: “On April 10th, 2025, at about 4:15 AM, a joint security team, led by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force proceeded to a suspected bandit route in Dutsen Wori village, Dandume Local Government Area, where the team successfully ambushed a group of suspected armed bandits along the route, leading to the neutralisation of 5 armed bandits and the recovery of 7 operational motorcycles which were used by the bandits in their criminal activities. In a separate operation on the same date, at about 7 AM, the joint security team, acting on credible information, intercepted a suspected armed bandit in Unguwar Adam and Unguwar Judo villages, Danmusa LGA. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the dislodging of the bandits’ hideout. 3 suspected informants, who were providing information and logistical support to the bandits, were apprehended and 2 operational motorcycles and 2 bicycles were also recovered during the operation.

    “In a similar development, operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have successfully rescued Augustine Madubiya, a 23-year-old student of the Department of Economics at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) who was kidnapped on April 8, 2025, at Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo LGA of Kebbi State. The rescue operation was conducted by a combined team of police officers and vigilantes in the Dakingari forest on April 10, 2025. Upon sighting the team of operatives, the kidnappers took to their heels. The victim was rescued unhurt and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local facility before being reunited with his family.”

    The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has commissioned the rebuilt and equipped Ugborikoko Divisional Police Headquarters and two operational vehicles donated by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

    The commissioning which brought excitement to the people of Ugborikoko community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state, had the Governor of Delta state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, and several traditional rulers, including the Ovie of Uvwie, Abe I, in attendance.

    The police station now boasts of modern state-of-the-art facilities including newly constructed Quarter Guard post, generator house, drainage, reconstructed police hall, a 30KVA soundproof generator and a 30KVA solar system, CCTV cameras and computer systems, television sets, air conditioning units, and office printers, as well as s fully equipped conference room and interrogation room gadgets.

    Also donated were two Hilux vehicles for operational mobility.

    In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun, represented by the AIG Zone 5, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba described the project as a reflection of the trust in the role the police force plays in maintaining peace, law and order in the society.

    He thanked Tantita and its management for making the project a reality, assuring all that the new police station is not just a place where officers will work but also a place where the people can engage positively with the Police and work together to build a safer and stronger community.

    In his speech, the Chairman of TSSNL, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo, while emphasising the firm’s commitment to safety, security and community development, said the project supports efforts to rebuild the peace in Warri, Effurun and environs, noting thus: “as a private security firm with local roots and global reach, Tantita understands that no society can thrive without peace and security.”

    Tompolo who was represented by the MD of TSSNL, High Chief Kestin Pondi, commended men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, describing them as the “unsung heroes of our security.”

    He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region, just as thanked the leadership and management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), for giving “Tantita the opportunity to contribute to national progress.”

    He added: “The decision to rebuild the Ugborikoko Divisional Police Station was borne out of recognition that security infrastructure matters. A secure, functional, and decent work environment boosts morale, enhances operational effectiveness, and strengthens public confidence in law enforcement.

    Police to commence training for 10,000 new recruits nationwide Saturday

    The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will commence training exercises for 10,000 new police recruits nationwide Saturday.

    NPF said the intensive training program, designed to equip the new recruits with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively serve and protect their communities, will begin at various police colleges and training schools across the nation.

    A statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said: “In preparation for the resumption, the Force Headquarters held an orientation ceremony for the Commandants and Directing Staff of the Training Institutions today April 11th 2025. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., represented virtually by the DIG in charge of the Department of Training and Development (DTD), DIG Frank Mba, mni., charged the Commandants of the Training Colleges and Schools to embrace the ongoing police reforms, uphold the highest ethical standards, and demonstrate firm professional conduct throughout the course of the training.

    “The IGP also expressed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of recruits on training, in areas of feeding and accommodation, and also ensuring they have a stable and conducive environment throughout their training period.
