Portable slams Speed Darlington over alleged defilement of 15-year-old

Controversial singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, has publicly criticised Speed Darlington, calling him in an Instagram video posted on Friday.

Portable’s outburst comes after Speed Darlington’s alleged confession in a viral Instagram Live video where he claimed to have engaged in s3xual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

He contrasted Darlington’s actions with the stereotype that Igbo men typically provide financial support and care for women, accusing Darlington of exploiting an underage girl and insisting he should face imprisonment.

He said, “This man called Speed Darling, aka Akpi is a disgrace to Igbo men. He is the first Igbo man who is lazy. An Igbo man would pay before sleeping with you. You will eat chicken, fish, and sleep well…Igbo men take care of women. They have money.

Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, faced widespread backlash after his initial video, where he described an encounter with a 15-year-old virgin at a hotel, mentioning bloodied sheets and paying hotel staff N2,000 to replace them.

The confession, made in Igbo, triggered outrage on social media, with users labeling his actions as rape and demanding legal consequences.

In response to the criticism, Darlington claimed in a follow-up video that the confession was a publicity stunt to promote his new song, describing it as a “prank” or “cruise” meant to generate controversy for attention.

He apologised to his fans but sparked further outrage with a controversial comment, saying that if he had known 15 would cause such a stir, he would have said the girl was 12 instead.

He also questioned whether the backlash would have occurred if the incident had taken place in Northern Nigeria, referencing cultural differences in marriage practices.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have initiated investigations.

The DSVA condemned the act as disturbing and escalated the matter to NAPTIP due to jurisdictional limitations, as Darlington did not specify the incident’s location.

NAPTIP summoned him for questioning on May 30, 2025, at their Abuja headquarters, warning that failure to comply could lead to further legal action.
