    Power Oil partners Ogun health ministry

    There  is a strategic  collaboration between  Power Oil Company  and the Ogun State Ministry of Health  to improve  health   standard of residents of the state. To realise this, the company  has deployed its health team across three primary health centres  from different local governments in the state  to support and facilitate the vital check process.

    This was stated during the formal launch of the project at the Ogun State Ministry of Health Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, where top officials from the ministry, Power Oil company, as well as the representatives from the three identified Primary health centres were present. The health centres were: Ita Alapo Family Health Centre in Ijebu Ode Local government, Ota Primary Health Centre in Ado Odo Otta Local Government and Obantoko Primary Health Centre under Odeda Local Government.

    Also, there were facilities to screen attendees freely on  hypertension,  blood pressure and diabetics.There was a  BMI device as well as the routine hypertension data booklet which registers patients’ personal information such as; age, sex, height, weight and  checkup result were presented to representatives of each of the Primary Health Centres. Lectures and trainings were conducted for few members of the PHC staff on : Overview and Facts on Hypertension and the use of the equipment presented by Dr. Hakeem Yusuff, Non Communicable Disease Coordinator, Ogun State Ministry of Health.

    Speaking during the programme, Dr. Qudus Yusuff, Director Public Health, Ogun State Ministry of Health praised  the Power Oil brand for its unrelenting efforts in  promoting and encouraging  stable heart health and  healthy living amongst Nigerians.

    “Power Oil Health Camp staff will  be present in all these clinics basically to help with vitals check up, before patients progress further to see the doctors in charge. You will agree with me that this will not only alleviate the burden on these health centres, it will also help to facilitate the amount of time patients will spend during each clinic visit” he noted.

    The Public Relations Manager, Power Oil, Mrs. Omotayo Azeez- Abiodun, thanked the Ogun State Ministry of Health for the endorsement while assuring the state of the brand’s continued support in the quest towards achieving a much more deeper outreach result in the state.

    Omotayo said: “It is worthy of note that the main objective behind the Power Oil health camp initiative is to bring free basic medical checkup closer to as many Nigerians as possible at different touch points irrespective of the location and we are delighted that we are gradually getting there.

    It was all fun over the weekend when Power Oil held its third health awareness walk tagged “Power Oil WalkHeartOn”in Lagos.

    Despite the downpour, the event was well-attended, as people came out en mass to join the healthy walk, which started and terminated at the National Stadium, Surulere.

    The yearly walk is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and remind Nigerians on the benefits of a daily fitness routine.

    Power Oil Brand Manager, Miss Amisha Chawla said: “We are amazed at the turnout, despite the weather situation. It shows that the gospel of fitness/health consciousness which the brand preaches is fast gaining momentum among Nigerians by the day.

    ‘’It was an energetic walk spiced with some music to keep the crowd in high spirits throughout the rainy journey.

    ‘’Confirming from our registration data base both online and offline, we recorded up to 2,032 participants in Lagos alone. However, judging from the current scene, it is clear that the head counts surpass that figure.  Right now, we are gearing up for Enugu and Port Harcourt  for next Saturday.’’

    The firm’s Public Relations Manager, Mrs. Omotayo Abiodun, said it was obvious that Lagosians had a lot of fun with the brand while walking for a healthy heart alongside some popular comedians, such as (Funnybone & MC Bonus) and musical artiste (Sound Sultan).

    The walk started from the National Stadium,moved to Shitta Roundabout, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, linked Bode Thomas, then turned at Iponri Bridge, faced Alaka and returned to the stadium.

    Members of the Nigerian Heart Foundation supported the walk by giving some talks on the benefits of walking for the heart.

    The foundation’s Programme Manager, Mr. Olatunde Ojo, said a minimum of 30 minutes walk daily was enough to help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, maintain a good body weight and it ultimately enhances mental alertness and general wellbeing. ‘’As simple as it sounds, the benefits of walking to human lives is unquantifiable as many lives have been lost as a result of a sedentary lifestyle,’’he said.

    Funnybone, MC Bonus and Sound Sultan, who also joined the walk, took turn to perform.

    Power Oil health camps were also available to all, offering free medical checks for participants to ascertain their health statuses, including blood pressure, and BMI.

    The firm promised that the camps would be avaible at future walks.

    The Power Oil WalkHeartOn Health awareness project started in 2015 in Lagos to promote fitness and healthy living among Nigerians.

    Last year, it wasextended to five cities – Lagos, Ibadan, Owerri, Port Harcourt and Abuja.

    El-Rufai pledges to appoint more women in government

    Gov. Nasiru El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday pledged to appoint more women into his government.

    El-Rufai made the pledge in Kaduna at the 2nd Women Economic Empowerment Summit, with the theme: Enabling access and participation; Linking women to Resources.

    The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that the governor had already appointed three women as commissioners, while the state Head of Service is also a woman.

    El-Rufai said his administration appreciates the important role women play in the development of the state.

    He urged the women to develop a road map to guide the government in addressing the challenges facing them.

    According to him, the government had established gender desk in all Ministries Departments and Agencies in the state to address women issues.

    He announced that the government plans to set up the Kaduna State Peace Commission and would appoint a woman as Executive Vice Chairman.

    NAN reports that the bill to establish the Peace Commission is currently before the state House of Assembly awaiting approval.

    Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba said the success of the first women summit informed the hosting of another one to tackle challenges already identified.

    “The ministry believes that access to timely information is of great importance to women businesses and empowerment.

    “The summit is planned to explore knowledge, information technology and social linkages to enable women participate as full and informed players in the business environment.

    “We have deliberately invited men and women from different professions and sectors to this summit to advise us on various areas we can work together for gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in our dear state,” Baba said.

    The commissioner commended development partners and advocacy groups that facilitated the summit.

    NAN reports that the summit was supported by Enhancing Nigerian Advocacy for Better Business Environment (ENABLE2), Synagos Nigeria, UNILIVER and Power Oil.

    Meanwhile, the summit has set up eight syndicate groups to develop roadmap to tackle gender challenges from different business sectors including Agriculture, Education, Health, Governance, Commerce, Security and ICT.

    One of the resource person, Katha Nwator said her organisation was working with the state authorities to address gaps in providing agricultural inputs to women farmers.

    Nwator said challenges and gaps slowing down women participation in Agriculture, Health and Sanitation issues must be addressed.

    She pledged that her organisation, Synergos Nigeria, would work with the Women Affairs and Agriculture ministries to address the issue of gender in agriculture.

    She also said effort was being made to address the alleged fraudulent activities in fertiliser procurement by women and imposition of illegal taxes in parts of the state.

    According to her, social media platform would be used to provide information among women farmers in the state.

    She advised women farmers to register their cooperative groups in a well structured manner to enable them access various agriculture credit facilities.

    Power oil health team has appealed to Nigerians to eat healthily as a way to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

    The team stated this during its Heart Health Mission programme to Moniya community in Ibadan, Oyo State. The health initiative was  aimed at bringing free basic health check-up closer to the public with the assistance of certified caregivers, while sensitising people about ways to keep the heart functioning perfectly and how to maintain a low calories body system.

    The team led by the Public Relations Manager, Power Oil, Omotayo Azeez said the power oil brand is on a mission to encourage and enlighten Nigerians on the need to embark on a periodic medical checkup and to bring into the consciousness of every Nigerian to lead a healthy heart lifestyle.

    According to Azeez:”The mission is simply to promote healthy living among Nigerians by encouraging them to pay more attention to their bodies and be cautious about the quality of what they consume in order to maintain a healthy heart. Because power oil believes so much in sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, that is why we have further extended our outreach deeply, even to the hinterlands and we are happy that the Moniya community all came out en masse to get examined/screened’’.

    Azeez said the campaign is currently present in 10 camps across the country- Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Owerri, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna etc.

    The routine screening exercise took place at the palace of the monarch of Moniya community, Ibadan in Oyo State,Chief Karimu Adigun, who was also present to lend his support and encourage his community members to take advantage of the opportunity.

    The monarch,  who was visibly elated, expressed his appreciation to the Power Oil Health Mission team, as he also confirmed that such a laudable health beneficial project  had never been witnessed by residents of Moniya community.

    “And apart from the basic medical checkup conducted, we also have become aware of some of the important roles that the food choices we make play in determining our health stability. I must commend the power oil brand for doing a wonderful job in putting the well-being of the public first” he stated.

    The representative of the leader of women in the community, Mrs. Risikatu Muraina, said she was  happy for the coming  of the  initiative because women especially stand a lot to gain. “Before now, we never realised the importance of a medical checkup and the implication of unhealthy eating pattern as it affects our health and that of our entire family whom we cater for. This is no doubt a wonderful project and we are happy to be participants of it” she commented,” she said.

    It will be recalled that power oil also has other various heart health supporting initiatives which inspire consumers to take good care of their health such as the annual Power Oil Walk-Heart -on and Pay with Calories which has held its third annual edition in three locations.

  • Foundation, firm endorse Power Oil

    The Nigerian Heart Foundation (NHF) and the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) have endorsed Power Oil vegetable oil as suitable for the heart because it is cholesterol-free. Likewise, NSN endorsed Power Oil because laboratory tests also revealed the product contains other nutrients that would improve consumers’ health.

    Speaking during an event in Lagos, Dr. Kingsley Akinroye, Executive Director (NHF) said due to its cholesterol-free components, Power Oil was indeed ideal for the heart and would go a long way towards ensuring cardiovascular health in the country. “Our plan is to meet the World Health Organisation’s target to reduce the number of cardiovascular deaths by 25 percent before 2025. Products like Power Oil will help us achieve that goal,” he declared.

    During the media launch of Power Oil in Lagos, the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have also given Power Oil their backing.

    Engineer Fred Akingbesote, Head, MANCAP, SON, said the vegetable oil brand had scaled a very demanding tripartite test for standards and could be reckoned with in the market.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Dufil Prima Foods Plc, makers of Power Oil, Mr. Deepak Singhal, said of the certification: “This certification and the huge patronage that Power Oil enjoys in the market prove it is the ideal vegetable oil brand for the health-conscious.”

    He also assured that the heart-friendly vegetable oil would go a long way to check the consumption of adulterated oil which many Nigerians had been patronising when quality oil was still unaffordable.
