  • Harry, Meghan name son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, the duchess of Sussex, have named their two-day-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor after showing him to the public for the first time on Wednesday.

Harry and Meghan announced the names on their official Instagram account but did not say why they chose them or whether the infant will hold any royal titles.

They said they showed Queen Elizabeth II, Harry’s 93-year-old grandmother, her eighth great-grandchild earlier on Wednesday.

The queen’s husband, Prince Philip, and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, were “also present for this special occasion,” they added, posting a black-and-white photograph of the group smiling at Archie as Meghan held him.

“It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy,” Meghan told reporters earlier as Harry held Archie inside the royal Windsor Castle, West of London.

“He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm,” Meghan added.

“I wonder who he gets that from?” Harry joked.

Asked how he liked being a parent, Harry replied: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing.”

“It’s only been two and a half days, three days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy,” Harry added.

Archie, who is seventh in line to the British throne, is expected to hold dual citizenship of Britain and the U.S.

Congratulations have poured in from well-wishers in Britain and other countries, including many celebrities, since Meghan gave birth early on Monday to a boy weighing 3.26 kilogrammes.

Harry, 34, is the second son of the heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

Harry married former actress Meghan, 37, in a spectacular wedding at the royal Windsor Castle in May 2018.

The queen and Philip now have four children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Prince William, who has three young children with his wife Kate, the duchess of Cambridge, welcomed his younger brother to “the sleep deprivation society” on Tuesday.

The queen’s grandfather, King George V, changed the royal family’s name from the German Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor – after Windsor Castle – in 1917 during World War I.

Philip also changed his name during World War I after his grandfather, Prince Louis of Battenberg, adopted the family name Mountbatten.

  • Breaking: Duchess of Sussex gives birth to baby boy

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on Monday welcomed their first child, with Buckingham Palace announcing that the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a son at 5:26am, local time.

Baby Sussex was born weighing seven pounds and three ounces.

Mother and child are reported to be doing well.

The Duke and Duchess are likely to announce the baby’s title in a few days, when the name will also be announced.

Unless the Queen grants a special Letters Patent, it is highly unlikely the baby will receive a Royal title like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children.

Baby Sussex is seventh in line to the throne behind dad Prince Harry, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince William and Prince Charles.

Meghan’s last engagement ahead of the birth was on March 19, when she and Harry paid their respects to the victims of the Christchurch shootings at New Zealand House in London.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” the statement said.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

  • Prince Harry highlights threat of climate change in Fiji

Britain’s Prince Harry said on Wednesday that climate change was a daily threat for people of Fiji, and announced scholarships to study the problem.

Prince Harry made this known as he toured with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on a visit to the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, on the frontline of global warming.

The royal couple was, however, mobbed by crowds waving British and Fiji flags on the second day of their visit to the former British colony of some 300 islands, where villages moved to higher ground to seek safety from rising seas.

Harry told students at University of the South Pacific in Fiji’s capital, Suva, that “one of the greatest challenges is undoubtedly climate change, and all of you living here are confronted with this threat in your daily lives.

“You’re actually experiencing changing weather patterns, ferocious cyclones and rising sea levels, particularly in places such as Tuvalu and Kiribati, and you’ve been living with this for many years, way before the world actually started talking about it.”

Fiji, which holds the presidency of COP23, the 23rd annual conference of the parties to a landmark UN climate agreement, led a push for the developed world to cut carbon emissions to limit rising temperatures and seas.

Worldwide, sea levels have risen 26 cm (10 inches) since the late 19th century; UN data shows, prompting plans to move more than 40 villages to higher ground in Fiji.

The issue is seen as a security problem in the region.

Fiji was devastated in 2016 by Cyclone Winston, the strongest storm ever in the southern hemisphere, which killed 44 people and caused 1.4 billion dollars in damage, a third of Fiji’s gross domestic product.

If temperature rises cannot be limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, swathes of Arctic ice would melt, coral reefs would be all but wiped out and wild weather worsen, according to a UN report.

Harry, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, announced four British-funded scholarships for studying the issue at universities in Fiji and the Caribbean, while Meghan stressed the importance of women’s education in her first speech of their tour.

The couple, who are expecting a child, have proved very popular in Fiji, drawing cheering crowds at every engagement.

A brief visit by Meghan to a market in Suva drew thousands of onlookers, with many of them waving flags, cheering and singing as she inspected stalls selling fruit, vegetables and handicrafts
