    Lovers of the satiric TV drama series sponsored by Globacom, Professor Johnbull, are in for a hilarious session as the inimitable diva of Nollywood, Patience Ozokwor, aka Mama G, features in this week’s episode of the programme entitled “Viral News”.

    “Viral News” focuses on the rampant abuse of the cyberspace and the spread of fake information on the various social media platforms with the accompanying pains the victims experience.

    The plot is unraveled as two regular members of the sitcom, Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso) and Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), become victims of viral fake news on the existence of poisonous fufu which adversely affects the sales of Patience Ozokwor, the chief distributor of ‘fufu’ on the programme, and causes customers to desert Olaniyi’s restaurant.

    Viewers will learn of the sundry antics through which the cyberspace is abused and the mode of operations of spreading fake news on the social media, leaving victims in pain and agony.

    The purveyor of the “poisonous fufu” news, Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), presents to the viewers, a picture of a gullible social media user who copies and pastes any broadcast without being sure of the veracity, while the series’ “perpetual student”, Makachuwkwu Ilodibe, represents the educated rumour monger on the social media.

    Other victims of viral fake news in the episode include the philanderer of the series, Flash, and Professor Johnbull’s gateman, Abadnego (Martins Nebo), who both keep luxuriant beards, which fuelled the viral news linking bearded guys to ritual money-making gangs in town.

    As is usual with the protagonist of the series, Professor Johnbull, (Kanayo O. Kanayo), proffers solutions to the problems by canvassing for caution and discretion on the part of the users of the various social media platforms.

    Viral News is broadcast every Sunday at 6.00 p.m. on DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2, with repeat broadcasts on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels and on Anambra Broadcasting Service at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.

     

  • Nigeria/Ghana jollof rice controversy takes centre stage on Glo’s Professor Johnbull

    The controversial yet humorous issue of which country between Nigeria and Ghana cooks the more delicious jollof rice comes under the radar in this week’s edition of TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by telecoms operator, Globacom.

    Entitled Ghana versus Nigeria Jollof, the episode highlights the ageless rivalry between two countries which are unarguably  the leading lights of the West African sub-region. The superiority battle between the two nations covers many areas of life, including sports and economy.

    Although the rivalry is in most cases healthy and often good for both countries’ development, there are times when it is not all that healthy, prompting the question as to whether indeed it is necessary in the first place.

    To highlight the lessons of the episode, two Ghanaian actresses, Martha Ankoma and Salma Mumin, engage in a supremacy battle with Nigeria’s Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko) and Jeroboam (Osita Iheme) over which of the two countries has better culinary enterprise. Lending support to the Nigerian team are the Nkwobi joint owner, (Yomi Fash-Lanso), and Nje (Angela Okorie), but Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) chooses to support his new Ghanaian girlfriend, Ajuwa (Martha Ankoma).

    As viewers watch the interesting edition, several questions to be resolved include: Is there any basis for the Ghana-Nigeria superiority complex? What has tribe got to do with whether a man or a woman will make a better spouse or not? How does Professor Johnbull resolve the culinary contest between Ghana jollof rice and Nigeria jollof rice? Who wins at the end of the “contest”?

    Ghana versus Nigeria Jollof will run at 6.00 p.m. on Sunday on DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2, with repeat broadcast on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels. Anambra Broadcasting Service will show the programme at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.

     

  • Professor Johnbull: KOK in arranged marriage drama

    In a new, humour-loaded episode of the TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, three of the characters, Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Etuk (Imeh Bishop) and Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), are worried that Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo) is still single years after he lost his wife and proceed to arrange a wife for the erudite professor.

    The bride-to-be happens to be Etuk’s sister who resides in the country’s capital territory. In another plot of the episode titled Arranged Marriage, the mother of Abadnego (Martins Nebo) arranges a countryside girl for his son and goes further to pay the bride price before bringing her to Enugu for him. According to promoters of the series and telecoms firm Globacom, viewers will have a good laugh as Etuk’s sister arrives Enugu to discover that Professor Johnbull is unaware of the arrangement and Abadnego rejects the “rural” girl brought to him by his mother.

    The company, in a press release, urges television viewers to find out what happens next to the arranged “babes” and what the bombastic Professor Johnbull has to say about the whole venture.

    The show teaches a lot of lessons for viewers on the subject of matchmaking in African traditional society and its advantages or otherwise in contemporary settings.

    The programme is broadcast at 6.00 p.m. on Sunday on DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2.     The ills of resorting to self-help in crisis situations and the need for members of the public to repose confidence in the agencies saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order is the focus of the current edition of Glo-sponsored TV drama series, Professor Johnbull.

    Titled Jungle Justice, the programme comes up on Sunday on DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2 at 6.00 p.m., with repeat broadcast at 9.30 p.m. on Thursday.

    It will also be aired on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday, while Anambra Broadcasting Service will air it at 8.30 p.m  on Wednesday and Saturday.

    The social satire which advises members of the public to avoid taking laws into their hands, urges them to repose confidence in the ability of the state’s security agencies to provide adequate security for lives and properties at all times.

    In Jungle Justice,  viewers will see the effects of lawlessness and the need to verify facts before reacting. It will also provide answers to the following questions: What is jungle justice? How blind is public anger against perceived criminals? Are all the victims of mob actions actually “guilty as charged” by the crowd?

    Viewers will also see the erudite Professor Johnbull, (Kanayo O. Kanayo) air his views on the dangers and evils of jungle justice as well as the role of Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko), the philanderer, Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) and how the adjudicator, Samson (Ogus Baba) escaped mob action.

  • Professor Johnbull: career success not determined by amount of money made

    THE latest episode of the soar-away Television series, Professor Johnbull, powered by telecom company, Globacom, will be focusing on the tendency of parents and guardians to decide career options for their children and wards and will be counselling that money should not be a motivation for choosing a career.

    It is an incisive dissection of the practice of influencing career choice in Nigerian homes. Many young people in Nigeria have been misguided to pursue careers they have no passion for by their parents.

    Consequently, such people do not find fulfilment in their jobs and many of them become liabilities rather than assets to the society.

    The fresh episode is entitled Career Choices, and pointedly condemns the idea of imposing careers on children by their parents.

    Viewers will see how successful one of the characters of the series will be at forcing his son to be a footballer against the son’s wish to be a Biology teacher. What will the position of Professor Johnbull be on this issue?

    Viewers will find out in the episode. They will also learn the reasons some parents prefer some careers to others. The episode will interrogate these reasons. Can the success of a person at a job be used as an indicator of how lucrative the job is all the time?

    Career Choices features all the regular characters such as Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Etuk (Imeh Bishop) and the professor’s daughter, Elizabeth (Queen Nwokoye).

    Other characters in Professor Johnbull who feature in Career Choices are Abadnego (Martins Nebo), Samson (Ogus Baba), Flash (Stephen Odimgba) and the new members of Professor Johnbull’s household, Nje (Angela Okorie) and Jeroboam, a.k.a. Boam (Osita Iheme).

    Globacom’s Professor Johnbull advocates civic behaviour

    POPULAR television drama series Professor Johnbull will in this week’s episode call for improved civic behaviour among the populace.

    The Professor, played by veteran Nollywood star, Kanayo O. Kanayo, will be seen promoting due process, proper documentation and shunning of all activities that do not align with socially acceptable behaviour. Among the ills the fatherly scholar counsels against in the episode are smuggling, use of fake drivers’ licence and littering.

    Professor Johnbull is a didactic drama on prime time national television, powered by total telecommunications service provider, Globacom.

    Every week, the show deals with social behavioral issues using comedy and satire.

    It will be aired today at 8.30p.m. on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes, with a repeat on the same channels on Fridays at the same time.

    This week’s episode, entitled: “What about you”, will pay attention to good citizenship; and in the end counsel everyone to take collective responsibility for societal good and growth.

    Professor Johnbull exposes illegal means of travelling abroad

    Illegal migration will be focus of this week’s episode of the TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, which is will be aired tomorrow  at 8.30.p.m. on the network service of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.

    The repeat broadcast comes up on Friday on the same stations at the same time.

    The show is sponsored by telecoms firm Globacom, and features some of Nigeria’s best performers, including the doyen of Nollywood, Kanayo O. Kanayo, who plays the star role of Professor Johnbull.

    There are also Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who plays the role of the Professor’s maid, Caro; Funky Mallam who plays the role of Mai Doya, the yam seller; Bidemi Kosoko (Jumoke); Ime Bishop (Etuk)  and Yomi Fash-Lanso, who plays the role of Olaniyi the restaurateur.

    In this week’s episode, entitled: I Must Travel, the erudite Professor takes people who attempt to travel abroad by all means to the cleaners.

    The episode throws light on how people put their lives at  risks by going through desert and sea routes and unconventional vehicles in their bid to travel to America or Europe, where they believe that the grass is greener.

    In a preview of this week’s episode, Professor Johnbull is seen pontificating on the dangers of stowing away in the cargo sections or wheels of aircraft and decks of ships,  saying that such amounts to “signing an agreement with death”.

     

  • Professor Johnbull tackles illicit drug use in new episode

    THE use of illicit drugs among youths and the damage it causes will take the centre stage in this week’s episode of popular TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by telecommunications firm, Globacom.

    Titled: High People, the lead character in the series, Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK), is joined by Nollywood star actress, Patience Ozokwor, a.k.a. Mama G, to condemn the ugly trend.

    In the episode, erudite Professor Johnbull organises a seminar in tandem with Mama G on the debilitating effects of hard drugs.

    While the seminar is underway, Flash the Boy (Stephen Odimgbe) is rushed in in a delirious state occasioned by his romance with illicit drug, which he obtained from a fellow student identified as MacChukwu Ilodibe.

    Like Flash, Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko) is also discovered to have tried getting ‘high’, as an antidote to the disappointment experienced when she was jilted by her boyfriend. She takes indiscriminate doses of cough syrup, which is another of the substances, which youths abuse in order to be ‘high’ either to enhance their performances or get relief from a depressing situation.

    The episode comes on air on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. today, with repeat broadcast at 8.30 p.m. on Friday on the same channels.

  • Highway fraudsters draw the ire of Professor Johnbull

    Criminally-minded individuals who play dirty tricks on motorists on the highway with a view to fleecing them are the focus of the first episode of Season Four of the hilarious TV series, Professor Johnbull.

    It is sponsored by leading telecommunications company, Globacom.

    The episode, entitled: “Point and Kill”, goes on air at 8.30 p.m. on tomorrow on  NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.

    According to a statement from Globacom headquarters, the episode will treat the menace of mischief-makers on highways, who pretend to be good Samaritans only to cheat the motorists of their hard-earned money.

    Globacom said the new season of the series “is as hot, hilarious and didactic as all the seasons before it”.

    “We want to assure the viewers of Professor Johnbull, which has been rated as the rave of the moment programme on the Network service of NTA, that the new season will give them value for their time,” the statement said.

    VIEWERS will be treated to the battle of wits between two major characters in the Globacom-sponsored TV drama series, Professor Johnbull, Yomi Fash-Lanso (Olaniyi) and Ime Bishop (Etuk), as the sitcom goes on air this week.

    The two characters will deploy all arsenals at their disposal to outdo each other in the contest for the chairmanship of the hospitality board in their locality.

    This is the plot woven by the producers of the series this week as attention shifts to the political class in a bid to expose the penchant by politicians to make unrealistic campaign promises.

    The episode is entitled: “Campaign Promises” was aired at 8.30 p.m. yesterday on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and  NTA on StarTimes. The repeat broadcast will also come up at 8.30 p.m. on Friday on the same stations.

    Lead character, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo), and other regulars in the series including Caro (Mercy Johnson Okojie) Churchill (Jnr. Pope Odonwodo), Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Samson (Ogus Baba), Abadnego (Martins Nebo), Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola) and Jumoke (Bimbo Kosoko) also featured in the episode.

    The episode examines issues such as unrealistic campaign promises, relevance of a person’s ethnicity in electoral contests, reasons for political violence, high cost of campaigns, among others.

    Globacom, in a statement issued in Lagos, urged viewers to watch “Campaign Promises” as they are assured a full dose of laughter even as the episode tries “to reawaken the people’s consciousness to the roles they are expected to play before, during and after elections.”
