    BREAKING: FG declares July 15 as public holiday to honour Buhari

    The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15 July, a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death

    The government said it was in furtherance of the seven days of national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, following the approval of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    Tunji-Ojo said the holiday is a mark of respect for the late president’s service to the nation, his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey, and his enduring legacy in governance and national development.

    The declaration was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

    “President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on their life, leadership, and the values they uphold,” the Minister said.

    He urged citizens to use the day to honour the late President’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion, in line with his vision for a prosperous and united Nigeria.

    “As earlier announced, the National flags are to fly at half-mast for the seven days of mourning period from Sunday, 13th July, 2025.

    “The Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul”, the Minister further said.

    BREAKING: FG declares Monday September 16 as public holiday

    The federal government has declared Monday, September 16 as a public holiday to mark the celebration of the Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

    He congratulated the Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora for the celebration.

    Tunji-Ojo in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani,  urged the Muslim Ummah and, by extension, Nigerians, to imbibe the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

    While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the occasion, the minister implored them to use the opportunity of the period to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous nation.

    BREAKING: FG declares Thursday additional public holiday for Eid-El-Fitr

    The Federal Government has declared Thursday, April 11, 2024 as additional public holiday for Eid-El-Fitr celebration. 

    This was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Aishetu Ndayako, on the ministry’s X account on Tuesday.

    It reads:  “The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid -El-Fitr.

    “The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while congratulating the Muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.”

    On Monday, Saudi Arabia announced fasting will continue on Tuesday because the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted. 

    It added that the Eid-El-Fitr would hold on Wednesday, April 10 to mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.

    The Federal Government on Sunday declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

  • Lagos: No public holiday on Friday

    …Says all Public, Private Schools to observe Mid-term break Thursday, Friday

     

    The Lagos State Government on Wednesday clarified reports making the rounds that it had declared Friday, March 8 as Public Holiday for Civil Servants, saying the information was untrue.

    A report currently circulating on social media platforms had suggested that the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode had declared Friday as public holiday to enable Lagosians prepare for the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

    But in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, the Government said that civil servants are expected to be at their various duty posts on Friday.

    Bamigbetan reiterated that just as earlier announced by the State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Mrs. Idiat Adebule, all public and private schools in the State are expected to proceed on the 2nd Mid-Term Break on Thursday, 7 and Friday 8 March, 2019 and resume academic activities on Monday, March 11, 2019 in accordance with the revised School Calendar for 2018/2019 Academic Year.

  • Islamic New Year: Kano declares Tuesday public holiday

    The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday Sept. 11 as public holiday to mark the new Islamic year 1440‎ after Hijra (AH).

    This was contained in a statement signed by the state commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba on Monday in Kano.

    The statement quoted Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as congratulating Muslims faithful for witnessing the New Year, which commences in the month of Muharram, the first month in the lunar Islamic calendar.

    It also urged Muslims to reflect on their deeds and activities during the past year and also to use the occasion to offer prayers for peace and prosperity of the country.

    The statement reassured the people of the state government’s determination to work hard towards improving their living standards.

    It also called on Nigerians to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to build a peaceful and harmonious country.

  • Id-El-Fitr: FG declares Friday, Monday public holiday

    The Federal Government has declared Friday, 15 and Monday, 18 as public holidays to celebrate the 2018 Id-el Fitr.

    The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, (rtd), who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated the Muslim faithful on a successful completion of the Ramadan and enjoined all Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the peace, unity, prosperity and stability of the nation.

    Dambazau said government desired that all Nigerians be inspired by the virtues gained during the Holy Month of Ramadan to live a life of sacrifice, charity and love for one another.

    According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Umar, the minister encouraged all Nigerians to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in taking the nation to greater heights.

    The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 29, as public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Democracy Day.

    Interior Minister  Abdulrahman  Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and pledged government’s continued dedication to entrenching democracy in the country.

    He also urged all Nigerians to trust and support the government in its commitment to building an indivisible, peaceful and greater nation based on the tenets of democracy.

    The minister wished all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration.

    The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 1, 2018, as a public holiday to celebrate the 2018 Workers’ Day.

    The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.) who disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, congratulated Nigerian workers on their loyalty, strength of character, hard work, sacrifice and dedication to building a greater Nigeria.

    The minister in a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. M. Umar, appreciated “the central role workers play in government activities and decisions, and for keeping faith with the present administration in its resolve to build a better Nigeria.”

    Dambazau solicited the continuous support of Nigerian workers in government’s effort to re-position the economy and uphold the shared legacy of all Nigerians.

    “The minister wishes all Nigerian workers a successful May Day celebration,” the statement said.

    The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st December, as Public Holiday to mark the Eid-El-Maulud Celebration.

    Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, enjoined all Muslim faithful and Nigerians to use the Eid-El-Maulud Celebration to pray for peace, progress and unity of the nation.

    According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, the minister further urged all Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration towards building the nation.

    He wished Nigerians a happy Eid-El-Maulud Celebration.
