  • ‘Why we’re committed to gender-balanced workplace’

    Multinational firm, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc, has reaffirmed its commitment to the advancement of affirmative action as panacea for an all-inclusive development as enshrined in the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5).

    Its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Christos Giannopoulos, said as a company dealing in beauty care and household products, women in the company have made immense contribution in providing consumer insights and crafting winning marketing strategies.

    He spoke at a colloquium organised by PZ Cussons to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).

    The event, which held in Ilupeju, Lagos,  aimed at exploring ways to fast-track gender parity to create a balanced world.

    Giannopoulos said PZ Cussons is an equal opportunity employer and that opportunities are opened to all irrespective of their gender. And to underscore this fact, PZ Cussons’ Global Chairperson, he said, is a lady.

    PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc Executive Director, Human Resources and Administration, Ms Joyce Folake Coker, also said the company decided to join the global community to celebrate the event as part of its responsibility to set and drive the momentum towards achieving a more gender-balanced and enabling workplace.

    “For a long time, PZ Cussons Nigeria prides itself as a company with a number of women on its Board and it has women in both senior managerial and other positions,” she added.

    The key guest speaker, Chief Nike Akande, reminded the audience that women remained the foundation of any society and called for action to accelerate gender parity.

     

     

     

  • We’re not leaving Nigeria, says PZ

    Conglomerate giant PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc says it is not leaving Nigeria and that claims of its departure from the country is totally false.

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PZ Cussons Mr. Christos Giannopoulos in a statement issued on Friday said “the trading statement issued to the London Stock Exchange was clear on our continued operations in Nigeria ‘Whilst these conditions prevail, we will maintain our strong market shares in key product categories in Nigeria until growth returns to the market.”

    Christos Giannopoulos noted that “this year 2019, we are celebrating 120 years of PZ Cussons making life better and adding value to Nigerians. In our 120 years of doing business in Nigeria, we have faced different conditions and come out stronger at the end.”

    He confirmed to company’s consumers, employees, business partners and stakeholders that “Nigeria still remains a market of interest for us and have made no plans to leave Nigeria. Our factories in Ikorodu, Aba and all our distribution centres around the country are operational and will continue to be.”

    Different social media platforms went abuzz on Thursday with news that PZ Cussons had concluded plans “to leave Nigeria as a result of the tough condition”.

    The PZ boss described this media buzz as “totally false and misleading and creates the impression that PZ has decided to leave Nigeria.

  • PZ Cussons grows profit by 55% in H1

    PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc appeared to have started reaping early gains of recent strategic cost-cutting initiatives as the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company grew profit by 55.4 per cent in the first half of current business year.

    Key extracts of the six-month report for the period ended November 30, 2018 released at the weekend indicated that profit before tax rose to N1.35 billion by November 2018 as against N868.7 million in the comparable period of 2017. After taxes, net profit also rose from N589.56 million to N1.22 billion. Earnings per share thus doubled from 15 kobo to 31 kobo. Total sales had dropped from N41.12 billion in 2017 to N35.05 billion in 2018. However, cost of sales also improved from N28.8 billion in 2017 to N26.22 billion in 2018.

    The six-month report places PZ Cussons in good stead to improve returns to shareholders. The company had paid N595 million as cash dividend for the 2018 business year, representing a dividend per share of 15 kobo.

    Addressing shareholders recently, Chairman, PZ Cusons Nigeria Plc, Chief Kola Jamodu, the company has started implementing strategic growth initiatives aimed at improving the performance of the company and ensure better returns to shareholders.

    According to him, a number of measures have been taken to guarantee a more sterling performance in the current financial year.

    He outlined that the company had further streamlined and optimized its products to improve on focus on key brands and consolidation of existing infrastructure and facilities towards improving supply chain efficiencies.

    He added that the company has also optimized its operating model to reduce overheads and speed to market for new products.

    According to him, while the competition in the FCMG sector remains strong, PZ Cussons Nigeria’s balance sheet remains strong with total assets of N88.1 billion as the company continues to maintain a strong cash position that gives it the flexibility and agility in financing its operations.

    PZ Cussons brand, Morning Fresh, has unveiled its new bottle in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    It said it is in a bid to increase demand at wholesale, retail, and distributor level of the premium brand.

    It said in a statement that following its recent relaunch, the bestselling dishwashing liquid has been engaging in numerous activities targeted at engaging all stakeholders. Amongst these activities was the ‘market storm’ which held in Mile 1 and Mile 3markets in Port Harcourt.

    Speaking about the in-market activation, its Brand Manager, Morning Fresh, Ahusimere Ejiroghene expressed delight at the turnout of the events.

    Manufacturer of personal healthcare  and consumer products, PZ Cussons, has restated its commitment to  prioritising the production of quality products that promote family hygiene.

  • PZ Cussons committed local talent devt

    Amajor British manufacturer of personal healthcare products and consumer goods, PZ Cussons, said it is committed to hunting talents and developing them across the country.

    Its Brand and Activation Manager, Busayo John, who gave the commitment during the grand finale of the fifth season of the youth-empowerment platform, Dare2Dream, sponsored by Imperial Leather and Canoe, at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos, said the firm would continue to give back to the society.

    She said: “We have seen amazing talents today, and we at PZ Cussons are pleased to be part of such a laudable initiative. This season, we decided to focus on the fashion design category, which happens to be one of the passion points for our brands; Imperial Leather and Canoe. “Through the Masters of Style platform, we hope to discover and encourage many more hidden talents. We are excited for the future of the respective winners and we are certainly expecting big things from them.”

    The final was the culmination of a series of activities and events that saw the emergence of talents in the areas of modelling, performing arts, and fashion design from across the country.  Contestants in the edition were pooled from University of Jos (UniJos), University of Port Harcourt (UniPort), University of Benin (UniBen), University of Lagos (UniLag), and University of Calabar (UniCal). Eighteen made it to the Bootcamp.

    Emmanuella Alile, representing UniLag, emerged as the winner of the Performing Arts category, while Olamide Olawaiye of UniBen, emerged winner of the Modelling category. Each smiled home with N500,000 while the Masters of Style winner, Yahaya, also got – in addition to the cash prize – a paid internship with a top fashion designer as well as an opportunity to showcase his designs at a major fashion show in Nigeria.

  • Lagos, others host PZ Cussons fashion fiesta

    The University of Jos, Port Harcourt, Benin, Lagos and Calabar have been chosen to host the maiden edition of PZ Cussons Imperial Leather and Canoe fashion design competition tagged ‘Masters of Style’. The competition is targeted at university undergraduates with talent in fashion designs.

    According to PZ Cussons, the competition is aimed at discovering young and budding talents aspiring to become fashion designers in the industry.

    Speaking on the initiative, the Head of Marketing, PZ Cussons, Charles Nnochiri said the competition would be open to only students of the selected universities across the country. “As you may know our brands, Imperial Leather and Canoe are big on luxury and style and have over the years supported many initiatives that have promoted the entrepreneurial spirit amongst Nigerian youths. We have only thought it necessary to set up a platform that will continue to give rise to fresh talents in fashion designing and give them the initial push and support they need to go on and achieve their dream of becoming top designers. The youth being the future of our nation is not lip service to the PZ brand. Therefore our need to invest in the brighter and productive future is what has given birth to the ‘Masters of Style’ competition,” he said.

  • PZ Cussons invests N60b in oil palm estates

    PZ Cussons has reiterated its resolve to deepen investments in the palm oil sector with N60 billion.

    This follows high demand for edible oils and high levels of domestic consumption.

    Its Chief Executive Officer, Christos Giannopoulos, told the Association of Business Editors in Nigeria (ABES) in Lagos that about N45 billion is going into upstream (plantation).

    PZ Cussons Nigeria entered into a joint venture (JV) agreement with Wilmar of Malaysia with a view to reawakening dead oil palm estates across Nigeria, particularly in Cross River State.

    According to him, the company acquired 26,400 hectares of old plantation in Cross River State. Target is to hit 50,000 hectares (ha) in a few years. These  include the defunct Calaro Oil Palm Estate, formerly owned by Cross River government, located in Akamkpa/Odukpani area, Ibad plantations in Akamkpa; Kwa Falls in AkamkpaAkpabuyo, and Oban plantations.

    PZ Wilmar’s investments in oil palm plantations and associated infrastructure in Cross River State are estimated at N45 billion.

    About N20 billion has also been pumped into an oil palm refinery in Lagos.

    Other projects executed by the organisation include a pilot out-grower scheme with 150 farmers, construction of a refinery with a capacity for 1000 tonne per day.
