    Rangers shop for technical director

    Enugu Rangers have announced they will interview candidates for the team’s posts for technical director and team manager on January 8.

    According to a statement signed by Rangers spokesman Foster Chime, applications for these positions are expected from today.

    Already, the club has confirmed the re-engagement of Imama Amapakabo is head coach on a year’s deal.

    He will be assisted by Chukwuma Agbo and Tony Bulus Tokpe and John Edeh.

    Goalkeeper trainer is Shuabu Sulaiman with Obeta and Ndubuisi Ajomiwe as trainers.

    Enugu Rangers Board has approved the acquisition of some technical officials that will assist Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo ahead of the new Glo Premier League season.

    The Flying Antelopes last week sent notices to interested coaches to avail themselves of interview to be conducted for the various vacancies in their technical bench.

    Amapakabo stays as the head coach while Chukwuma Agbo is to serve as the chief coach till the end of the season at least.

    Others in the new look technical crew are Tony Bulus (Assistant Coach I), John Edeh (Assistant Coach II) and Shuaibu Suleiman (Goalkeeper Trainer).

    Coach Obetan, Ndubuisi Ajomiwe and both to serve as trainers for the team.

    The Rangers’ Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime told SportingLife that the technical crew has been given a task of reviving the fortunes of the club while ensuring that Rangers return to the continent and winning a silverware at the end of the season.

    Rangers were placed 12th on the log at the end of the last season with 49 points from 38 matches and have yet to win any laurel since 1984.

    Rangers and Akwa United settled for a 2-2 draw in a Week 36 game of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game on Sunday in Enugu.

    Rangers now have 48 points from 35 games, while Akwa have 44 points from 36 games.

    The hosts started well and scored in the seventh minute when Chinedu Udeagha finished well from Etim’s cross.

    A minute after Rangers goal, Aniekpero Udoh tapped in from a rebound after Friday Ubong’s effort hit the goal post.

    Rangers lead was restored by Justice Chinedu in the 51st minute off a superb free kick that beat the wall and goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode.

    Akwa got their equalizer in the 68th minute through Nnamso Edo’s well taken free kick.

    Rangers players vow to beat Akwa United

    Enugu Rangers’ players have vowed to avenge the defeat they suffered in the hands of Kano Pillars during the mid week when they face Akwa United today in a Glo Premier League Week 36 tie.

    The  captain of the Flying Antelopes and some other players blamed the centre referee, Adigwe G I from Lagos State for the unjust straight red card given to Emeka Eze and other questionable calls to give Pillars a soft-landing to get a win.

    However, they said they have put the defeat behind them and the duo of Bobby Clement and Osas Okoro are optimistic that with the inclusion of Pape Ousmane and Etim Matthew in today’s squad, Rangers would pick the full points at stake.

    In a chat with the club’s Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime, the club’s players stated their resolve to take the maximum points and improve their position on the league table.

    Rangers are 12th on the log with 45 points from 34 matches. They travel to Akure to face Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled Glo Premier League Week 34 tie on Wednesday.

    Rangers rue home draw with Warri Wolves

    Enugu Rangers have expressed regrets over the inability of the Flying Antelopes to record a famous double victory over Warri Wolves after they could only draw 1-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Sunday in a Glo Premier League Week 33 tie.

    The Enugu side defeated Warri Wolves when the corresponding fixture was played in June this year in a Week 13 duel 1-0 but  they couldn’t replicate that feat yesterday after they fought harder before gaining a draw before their fans.

    Gbolahan Salami scored the curtain raiser in the 10th minute after an unselfish assist from Kufre Ebong but the Seasiders  lost other  chances that came their way before Rangers raised the bar in the second half to get the equaliser in the 50th minute  through Osas Okoro.

    The Director of Media and Publicity of Rangers, Foster Chime told SportingLife that they were pained by their inability to secure a double win over Warri Wolves and that they must approach their next away tie with victory on their minds.

    He said with the good gesture of the state government under Governor  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Rangers players ought to have beaten  Warri Wolves as a way of showing gratitude for the  government’s kind gesture but reckoned that the game was tough from the beginning to  the end.

    Rangers will face Sunshine Stars next in Akure and Chime told SportingLife that the Flying Antelopes must strive to  pick at least a point from the tough tie to show their fans and  supporters that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

    Rangers are 12th on the table with 45 points from 33 games while Warri Wolves are second with 56 points from 33 matches on  the log.

    Rangers were poor in first half against Wolves-Amapakabo

    Enugu Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo has described as game of two halves, his side’s draw against Warri Wolves.

    The Coal City side were held to a 1-1 draw by the Seasiders in Sunday’s Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) match day 33 clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

    Top striker, Gbolahan Salami scored the match opener in the 13th minute for Wolves while forward, Osas Okoro grabbed the equaliser for the Flying Antelopes in the 52nd minute.

    Amapakabo said his side were far better in the second half of the encounter though they still failed to make it count positively.

    “The match was more or less a game of two halves, Warri Wolves were far the best side in the first half of the encounter while we came into the match meaningfully in the second half.

    “We got everything wrong in the first half allowing Warri Wolves all the room to operate unchallenged.

    “I won’t say I’m happy with the outcome of the match however it’s still better than losing the entire points.

    “We will work on the lapses to ensure we come out with a different approach in our next match at Sunshine Stars,” said the former Sharks coach to supersport.com.

    The point against Warri Wolves adds Rangers total earnings to 41 points from 99 points in the 33-week old Nigerian top flight.

    Enugu Rangers’ duo of Pape Ousmane and Rasaq Adegbite are set to be available f for the Sunday’s Glo Premier League Week 32 tie against Warri Wolves after they had spent some time on the sidelines on the account of injuries.

    SportingLife was told by the Flying Antelopes’ Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime that Pape trained without pains throughout this week and that Adegbite has presented himself for selection after he also showed no sign of rustiness during training sessions had ahead of the tie.

    Chime also told SportingLife that the club’s former skipper Emeka Eze has also resumed training from the injury he copped recently but that he has not trained enough to gain match fitness that will return him back to the first team.

    He confirmed that all Rangers’ players have received their September, 2015 salaries and that they were also paid some part of their match bonuses to keep them in the right frame of mind ahead of the tough tie against Warri Wolves on Sunday.

    Chime praised the Enugu State government under the leadership of  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for ensuring that the players are well motivated adding that the players should reply the gesture with a home win against Warri Wolves on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

    Rangers are 12th on the log with 44 points from 32 games and may put themselves in the reckoning for a continental ticket if they secure maximum points in their remaining matches starting with the home game with Warri Wolves on Sunday.

    Forward Onoriode Odah has returned to the Rangers squad for Sunday’s league game after he was dropped for the home win against Kwara following a training ground bust-up.

    Marshall walked out on Rangers final training prior to the match against Kwara with permission from the coach and he was ordered to stay out till further notice.

    His last game was against Wikki at home in early September during which he scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win only to suffer an injury, which kept him out for several weeks.

    The left-footed striker, who is a brother of Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah, has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season – seven in the league and three in the Confederation Cup.

    Rangers bounce back to beat Kwara 2-1

    Rangers came back from a goal down to beat troubled Kwara United 2-1 in Enugu on Sunday in a Nigeria league Week 31 game.

    Rangers now have 45 points from 31 games, while Kwara United have 32 points from the same number of matches.

    Visiting Kwara drew first blood a minute to the interval through striker Segun Alebiosu.

    However, the introduction of Bobby Clement by Rangers coach changed the game and man of the match Osas Okoro levelled scores in the 48th minute.

    Bobby Clement then sealed the victory for the home team with a 56th minute goal off Osas Okoro’s pass.

    “It was a good game because we fought as a team,” Rangers defender Etim Matthew told AfricanFootball.com after the match.

    Eagles assistant coach Loscuito was at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu along with Eagles coach older brother, Churchill Oliseh to watch the match.

    Rangers keep fumbling Agbim frozen out

    Goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim has remained frozen out at Enugu Rangers since his fumbles cost the Enugu club a home game against FC IfeanyiUbah in August.

    Rangers lost 3-2 to IfeanyiUbah and Agbim was widely blamed for the home loss and even needed police escort to escape the wrath of angry fans.

    Rangers have picked goalkeepers Akor Itodo and Uche Okafor for today’s home game against struggling Kwara United.

    Others named on the match day squad include Pape Sane, skipper Okey Odita, Nnamdi Anyasado, Chinedu Justice, Etim Matthew, Hope Fibersima, Christian Madu, Osas Okoro, Bobby Clement, Godwin Aguda, Kola Anubi and Chinedu Udeagha.

    Rangers are 12th on the table with 40 points from 30 matches.
