Rangers to Heartland: You can’t stop a player that desires to leave

Enugu Rangers have counselled Heartland FC not to continue holding on to players that have made their stand known that they were ready to move on to seek green pasture elsewhere that it could be counter productive.

The Flying Antelopes’ Director of Media and Publicity, Foster Chime in an interview hinted that two of their top players: captain, Cyril Oriaku and striker, Christian Obiozor signified their intention to leave for another club and they are now today playing for Dolphins and Kano Pillars respectively.

Chime also noted that the threat by the Naze Millionaires to drag Rangers to a civil court will no doubt make them to incur the wrath of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) advising the club instead to allow players in their domain who have informed them they want to leave, to go, so as to avoid the backlash.

Chime noted that the player in question, Bobby Clement has ceased to be their player since he only joined them on loan due to the arrangement between them and Clement’s agent, Yomi Itshekure who is noted for only negotiating loan deals for players under his stable.

“I don’t know what Heartland are fretting over because the information available to us about Bobby Clement says he moved to Owerri on loan from his agent Yomi Itshekure and he has desired to leave them for another club.

“No one can hold on to a player that has decided to move on. We sold two of our players, Cyril Oriaku who is our captain and Christian Obiozor because they said they wanted to leave. You cannot hold on to a player against his wish.

“Heartland also said they would be taking us to a law court. They know the repercussion if they do that. It is best for them to let sleeping dog lie and focus their attention on getting new players to replace those that have gone,” Chime told SportingLife.

  • Rangers, Raja agree on Osaguona today

Rangers, Raja agree on Osaguona today

Enugu Rangers have confirmed that Raja Casablanca representatives have contacted them over the acquisition of their striker, Ighodolar Osaguona and that everything about the deal would be finalised today.

Though, the former 3SC of Ibadan attacker had been presented to the media in Morocco the Flying Antelopes have insisted before the new development that they were yet to sanction the Eagles’ player’s move to the North African.

The Media Officer of Rangers, Foster Chime told SportingLife that the Enugu side agreed to Osaguona’s unveiling because the transfer window in Morocco closed last weekend and that Raja wanted him to sign before the end of the transfer but that no agreement was reached over his market value and other issues.

Chime however informed that Raja’s officials have started discussion with their TMS person over Osaguona’s proposed move and that everything should be sorted out today and that it is at the end of this that the  club would sanction the release of the player’s International Transfer Certificate(ITC).

“We were not contacted initially by Raja but we were observing things from close quarters. They have eventually reached us and we are still talking. Our TMS person has been attending to them and we expect a resolution to be made tomorrow (today) before we can officially announce his departure,” Chime told SportingLife.

    Rangers, Chukwu meet today

The management of Rangers FC of Enugu is expected to meet today to deliberate on the club’s activities ahead of the coming season.

The club’s media officer, Foster Chime, who confirmed this to SportingLife, said the management will meet with the club’s consultant Christian Chukwu and the technical director, Innocent Obi-Ekwo, to consider the way forward for the club.

The board will look at the players’ last season’s performnaces and plan for the coming season.

“We are going to plan for the coming season at the meeting. As you are aware, the club has placed 15 players on the transfer market and we are looking at how many players to bring in. Also, League management Company (LMC) is thinking of January and March for league resumption. So, we will look at all of these issues,” Chime told SportingLife.

He also disclosed that the management will refurbish the players’ camp before they resume training.

“We want to give it a new look and make it more conducive for the players. We want to ensure that we provide everything there for them,” Chime said.

Rangers urged to beat Kaduna United

Enugu Rangers’ General Manager, Paul Chibuzor Ozor has charged the players of the Flying Antelopes to go all out for an away win against Kaduna United in the premier league Week 38 tie billed for the Ahmadu

    Bello Stadium on Sunday.

The Enugu side are 10th on the log with 55 points from 37 games and they are to square up against the Crocodile Boys who have already been relegated to the lower league with 38 points from as many matches.

They are 18th on the log.

Rangers struggled at the beginning of the season and only started picking up at the latter part of the second stanza but Ozor in an interview with SportingLife disclosed that the players have been charged to forget about the turbulent season but should concentrate on winning the game against Kaduna United on Sunday.

He promised to surprise the players and the technical crew if they are to secure an away win in Kaduna which he hinted would ensure that the club finishes the season better than last season.

He pointed out some of the reasons for the Flying Antelopes inability to achieve their target but warned that the club’s strong end to the season would mean Rangers would be among the frontrunners next season.

“We have urged the players to go to Kaduna and ensure that they get maximum points and then come back to get the surprise from us. We are happy that our club has stayed very competitive towards the end of the season and that we are  not like some clubs that are always desperate to win cheap points not minding what it would take.

Rangers crush Lagos Royalty FC 11-2

Enugu Rangers massacred Lagos non-league club, Royalty FC 11– 2 in a test game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Tuesday.

Super Eagles ‘B’ international, Christian Obiozor  and winger Marshal Odah both grabbed hat-tricks, while Samuel Agba and substitute Okereke Maduabuchi got two goals each with Bitrus Dada coming from the bench to also put his name on the score sheet.

Obiozor opened the flood gate of goals after a quarter of an hour, when he latched on to a Chisom Egbuchulam sublime cross. He also scored on 35 and 50 minutes.

Odah would have scored more but he wasted several chances after he found the back of the net on 23, 43 and 84 minutes with Agba getting on the score sheet on 25th and 67th minutes.

Substitute, Okereke, scored on 63 and 65 minutes while Dada curled in his own effort on 80 minutes in this one-sided encounter. The amateurs from Lagos had Nwangwu Mike and an Emeka Eze own goal to thank for their two goals.

Rangers claim away win at Crown

A goal each from Matthew Etim, Chinedu Udeagha and Samuel Agba lifted Enugu Rangers to a 3-0 victory and increased Crown’s relegation fears at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Etim opened the scoring from a well planned set-piece. Udeagha made it 2-0 moments later with a sublime finish following a defence-splitting pass to him.

Agba completed the scoring in the dying moments of the first half and added to manager Hakeem Busari’s problems.

Coach Busari knows his side must improve quickly if they are to stay up, particularly as his team have not won since he took over as the head coach.

Crown were a shadow of the side that gained promotion from the Nigeria National League. But that was as bad as it got for Busari’s lacklustre side. Etim was at alert to react to a fantastic set piece to silence the Ibadan fans.

Yet, if the Etim’s opener was scruffy, Udeagha’s goal was manufactured from the blues.

A delightful pass split the home defence and allowed Udeagha, a player with huge talents shoot from a very tight angle and Crown were two goals down in the televised match.

Rangers weren’t done yet and they got the third from a brilliant team move. Agba scored his 10th goal of the season in the 45th minute. Having struggled at the beginning of the season, Rangers will be confident they can build on the momentum of this win to secure at least a continental ticket.

  • Ighodaro happy to play for Rangers 24 hours after Eagles clash

Ighodaro happy to play for Rangers 24 hours after Eagles clash

Osaguona Ighodaro was a surprise inclusion in the Enugu Rangers squad that tackled Heartland in the Nigeria Professional Football League on Thursday afternoon, having represented the Super Eagles the day before.

The 24-year-old proved that his loyalty to the Flying Antelopes was unquestionable after stepping onto the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium pitch less than two hours after arriving Enugu from Abuja. And he repaid coach John Obuh’s faith in him by scoring in the 38th minute, as Rangers secured all three points in the Oriental Derby.

”I left Abuja at 12:45 pm with an Arik Air flight. I had to play for Enugu Rangers, we have to play together as a team, it was a derby game.

”Yes I was tired but as a player you know what you are after, and you have to keep pushing for it,” Osaguona Ighodaro told SL10.ng on Friday morning.

In the race for the top scorer award in Nigeria’s top division, the Enugu Rangers marksman is now two goals behind Enyimba’s  Mfon Udoh, after netting his 15th goal of the season against Heartland.

Osaguona has pointed out that he would have added to his 15-goal haul if he had not been away on international duty with the Super Eagles.

RANGERS MANAGEMENT TO PLAYERS: BEAT HEARTLAND GET N.5M

Enugu Rangers’ players will get 500,000 Naira from the club’s management immediately after their home game with Heartland today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium if they beat their neighbours in a Premier League Week 33 tie.

The Oriental Derby has always been fierce in the past and to ensure that Flying Antelopes do not allow the encounter to overwhelm them, general manager of the club, Paul Chibuzor Ozor has told Goal that the players would be half a million Naira richer if they do the needful against the Naze Millionaires to get the maximum points.

Rangers went on a six-game unbeaten run with four wins and two draws before this was punctured at Katsina Ala where they were beaten 2-0 by Lobi Stars last Sunday.

But Ozor said that he has had useful deliberation with the players and they have promised him that they would get the maximum points against Heartland and thereafter commence another unbeaten streak.

Ozor said: “The players have been told the importance of the home game with Heartland [and] they have assured me that they would win it without any problem.

“The management has encouraged them with a sum of N500,000 which they would collect at the end of the match if they win.

“We have told them to forget about the loss to Lobi Stars and focus their attention on beating Heartland to begin  another unbeaten streak till the end of the season,” Ozor told Goal.

  • OBUH THREATENS TO WALK-AWAY FROM RANGERS

OBUH THREATENS TO WALK-AWAY FROM RANGERS

Rangers coach John Obuh has threatened to resign if “unnecessary interference” in his job by the management does not stop.

Obuh, who was practically held hostage for over an hour after Tuesday evening training session by members of the management team led by the General Manager, Paul Chibuzor, told AfricanFootball.com he was being pushed to the wall by some unguarded utterances of some highly placed members of the management team.

“I must state categorically that I am highly disappointed by the actions of Christian Chukwu, Innocent Obiokwo and Innocent Abana over my output in the team,” Obuh said.

“How could Chukwu say that I don’t have the  tactics in prosecuting my matches because we lost a game out of seven? It exhibits sabotage from such highly placed members of the team, especially as we prepare for a tough encounter against Heartland.”

He further stated, “If such actions from such people are not checked, I might just be forced to throw in the towel and have my peace and respect.

“Let Chukwu, Obiokwo and Abana come and handle the team. They are not too old to coach Rangers.”

The current uproar in the side is not unconnected with media reports that the former Nigeria U20 handler has indicated interest in helping the Super Eagles out of the current precarious situation they find themselves in the qualifying tournament for next year’s AFCON.

  • EFUGH TARGETS DOUBLE ON RANGERS

    EFUGH TARGETS DOUBLE ON RANGERS

HEARTLAND captain and centre-back, Chinedu Efugh has said doing the double over their oriental neighbours, Enugu Rangers is quite possible.

The Naze Millionaires will be the guests of the Coal City side in the Glo Premier League match day 33 encounter today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. The Owerri-based outfit won 2-0 against Rangers in the first fixture in Owerri.

Efugh said the oriental derby is certain to be difficult but insisted that his side has the key to unsettle Rangers.

“Of course, (doing the) double is quite possible at Enugu Rangers, we won 2-0 the first fixture in Owerri and are heading to Enugu for a repeat performance.

“The encounter is  not going to be easy as expected of any local derby. In fact, no encounter between both sides has ever been easy irrespective of where the game is played.

“We’ve prepared adequately to confront Rangers head long for the maximum points at stake.

“There is nothing quite special for me about the game but same as any other game which we always aspire to win. We performed very well in our last game against Sunshine Stars with a 3-0 score line, we hope to confront Rangers with same winning mentality.

“We need all the points we can get at the moment to help improve our position on the league log,” said Efugh to supersport.com.

Heartland are ninth on the league log on 47 points from a possible 96 in the 32-week-old Nigerian top flight.
