    Herb seller rapes eight-year-old daughter

    The police in Ondo State have arraigned a 35-year-old herb seller identified as Mufutau Taiwo before an Akure Family Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his eight years old daughter.

    Taiwo reportedly fled with the victim to Osun State after she bled for three days to obtain fake report that she was not raped.

    He was however apprehended and confessed to the deed during interrogation after another test was conducted on the victim.

    The suspect was arraigned on a count charge of rape.

    The charge reads: “That you, Mufutau Taiwo, 35, male, on June 5, 2024, at about 4 pm at No. 40 Egbe-Road, Ayedun Quarters, Akure, did have carnal knowledge of your daughter (name withheld), female, aged eight years old, of the same address, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 25(a) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2021.”

    Police Prosecutor, Supol Martins Olowofeso, said the defendant was arrested on June 18, 2004, after a case of rape was reported.

    Olowofeso said the suspect confessed to the alleged crime during questioning by the investigating officer.

    The plea of the defendant was not taken due to the nature of the offence.

    Presiding Magistrate B.A. Alipohul ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case to July 4, 2024 for hearing.

  • Man, 44, ‘rapes’ six-year-old girl

    The police in Ogun State have arrested a 44-year-old man, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s six-year-old daughter.

    Rafiu Moruf, the police said, was nabbed on Monday after the victim’s mother became aware that he had raped her daughter.

    Moruf, said to be living with his wife in a house behind Aferiku Secondary School, Idiroko, allegedly raped the minor.

    Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the girl confessed to her mother after she noticed that her daughter acted strangely.

    He said: “Upon close examination, the woman found semen in the girl’s private parts. She questioned her and she confessed that the suspect took her to his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

    “The woman reported at the Idiroko Police Station and detectives went to the suspect’s house and arrested him.

    “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime. The victim has been taken to hospital.”

  • Togolese ‘rapes’ teenagers in Lagos

    The police in Lagos have arrested a Togolese, Dominic Samson, 31, for alleged sexual assaults on six underage girls.

    It was gathered that the suspect was nabbed on October 8, after a victim’s father reported at Ejigbo Police Station, Lagos.

    According to the police, Samson, a resident of 28, Olusesan Street, Ejigbo defiled the man’s 15-year-old daughter. The victim named others abused by the suspect.

    Police spokesman Chike Oti said the victim named others who had been raped by Samson, adding that they were aged 13 to 15.

    He said: “The victims, except the sixth one, have been identified, interrogated and their statements recorded. The girls revealed that the suspect sometimes bring all of them together in one room for an orgy and thereafter give them N50 each.

    “The victims have been taken to Mirabel Centre where the doctor’s report confirmed that they were defiled.

    “Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal advises parents to monitor their children’s activities, to prevent sexual abuse, which is on the rise in the society.”

  • Bank cleaner ‘rapes’ neighbour’s wife

    A bank cleaner, Essien Akpan, was yesterday brought before an Ajegunle Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his neighbour’s wife.

    Akpan, 35, of 19, Prince Fadine Street, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of sexual assault before Mrs L.Y. Balogun.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Kokoye Olusegun said the incident occurred on March 30, at about 2am, at the defendant’s address.

    He said Akpan had unlawful sexual intercourse with the mother of four.

    The woman, he said, had been rejecting the defendant’s love advances.

    On the fateful day, she came outside at about 2am to pick her children’s clothes from the line because it was about to rain, unaware that the defendant was lying in wait for her.

    He allegedly pounced on her from behind, pulled off her wrapper and forced himself on her.

    She screamed for help, but none came.

    Olusegun said: “The defendant was arrested after the victim called her husband who was outside Lagos, to inform him of the incident.”

    According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 168(d) Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Akpan pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate Balogun granted him N50,000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    She adjourned till September 17.

  • Barber ‘rapes’ six-year-old girl in Ogun

    The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old barber, Daniel Essien, for allegedly defiling a minor.

    Essien was said to have raped a six-year-old victim three times at Olufemi Oshin Street, Alagbole in Akute.

    It was gathered that the victim told her teacher she was sexually assaulted by the suspect and the teacher notified the girl’s mother.

    The agitated woman reported the matter at a police station after speaking to her daughter, who again fingered Essien.

    A statement in Abeokuta, the state capital, by police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said: “She (mother) reported that she was called by her child’s teacher and told to be watchful of the girl because she was being sexually abused.

    “This made her to interrogate the child on her arrival from school consequent upon which the girl told her that it was Essien, who owned a barbing salon in the neighbourhood.

    “On the strength of the report, detectives went to the scene and promptly arrested the suspect. He denied the allegation at first. But when the girl was taken to the hospital and medical report confirmed she was defiled, he admitted to have committed the crime.

    “Police Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit for further investigation and prosecution.”

     

  • 45-yr-old allegedly rapes 8-yr-old

    A 45-year- old man, Chukwujekwu, has allegedly raped an 8-year-old girl.

    The incident happened at Umudu-Egbengwu Nimo  in Anambra State.

    Otugo, an uncle to the victim, was said to have lured her with N50, following which he allegedly raped the girl in the bush on June 8.

    The victim’s mother was said to have promptly reported the matter at the Police station but the culprit, a father of five, had bolted when the police visited his home.

    The girl stated that Otugo threatened to kill her if she ever revealed the incident.

    “He said he would kill me if I told anybody”.

    The victim’s distraught mother, a widow, said: ’’My pain is that this man did this despite knowing my kids have no father; so he thinks he will not face justice?”

    Meanwhile, a civil society organisation, Help for Victims of Matrimonial Abuse Foundation (HVMAF) has promised to ensure that Otugo was prosecuted.

    Executive Director of HVMAF, Dr Favour Alexander said: “The mother of the girl sent me a text when the incident happened in Anambra State.

    “Our legal team will prepare a petition to the IGP and ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet; our aim is to go to court as the paedophile must not go scot free.’’

  • Man ‘abducts, rapes’ 13-year-old girl

    THE police in Lagos have arrested a 26-year-old man, Chibuzor Emealo (aka Alomo), for violently raping a 13-year-old girl he allegedly abducted.

    It was gathered that the incident occurred at 3, Omoniyi Street at Orile-Iganmu in Lagos.

    The suspect, it was learnt, penetrated the girl’s private part and anus, causing her to bleed profusely.

    Emealo allegedly went to the victim’s house around 12 a.m while her mother had gone to work and forcefully whisked her away.

    The suspect, the police alleged, took the girl to a nearby canal, where he defiled and caused her serious bodily harm.

    Emealo was reportedly apprehended after the victim, whom he raped overnight, got home with blood dripping from the tears she sustained.

  • Driver ‘rapes’ neighbour’s daughter

    A 35-year-old driver, Daniel Mark, has been arraigned by the police at a Daura Road Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna, for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s daughter.

    The defendant, a resident of Nasarawa Ward, Kaduna, is standing trial on a two-count charge of indecency and assault.

    The prosecutor, Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant’s neighbour, Maryam Umar, reported the matter at Kakuri Police Station, on February 28.

    He said the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.

    Baba alleged that the defendant lured the complainant’s four-year-old daughter to his room on February 18 and had carnal knowledge of her.

    He alleged that the defendant threatened to kill the victim if she informed anyone of the incident.

    The prosecutor added that during investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.

    The offence contravenes sections 260 and 240 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mrs. Zainab Mohammed, granted the defendant bail at N500,000 with two sureties.

    She said the sureties must live within the jurisdiction of the court and submit two recent passport photographs.

    Mohammed ordered that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State government and adjourned hearing till April 14.

     

  • Factory worker ‘rapes’ colleague at knife-point

    The Police in Lagos yesterday arraigned a 21-year-old factory worker, Timothy Nwaokema, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his co-worker at knife-point.

    The accused is standing trial before Magistrate B.O Osunsanya, on a charge of rape, to which he pleaded ‘not guilty’.

    Nwaokema was admitted to N200,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 6 at his residence.

    He said the accused unlawfully had canal knowledge of his co-worker (name withheld), without her consent.

    “After the close of work, the accused invited the complainant to his home on the pretext that she should come and see the new apartment he just rented.

    “The victim followed him since she was also going towards the direction of the accused’s new home.

    “When she entered his room, the accused locked the door and the complainant demanded for an explanation, but he told her that he wanted to make love to her.

    “The complainant shouted for help and the accused brought out a knife, threatening to kill her if she refused to allow him make love to her.

    “Out of fear, the complainant complied and the accused laid her on his bed, holding the knife over her, and had sex with her,” the prosecutor said.

    Magistrate adjourned the case till April 30.

    Man ‘rapes’ twin sisters

    A driver, Samuel Adebayo was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping twin sisters and putting one of them in the family way.

    The accused, 30, who resides at Beckley Estate in Abule Egba, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for alleged rape and an attempt to procure an abortion.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Raphael Donny told the court that the defendant committed the offences last December in his residence.

    Donny said the defendant lived in the same compound with the 17-year-old twin sisters.

    “The defendant raped the girls on different occasions and in the process, one of them got pregnant.

    “The defendant gave her N20,000 to terminate the pregnancy but instead, she confided in her elder sister, who informed their mother.

    “The case was reported at the police station and the defendant was apprehended,” he said.

    The offences contravene Sections 147(1) and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Davies Abegunde granted him N500,000  bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    She adjourned till June 5.
