Tax fraud case: Ronaldo to appear in court July 31

Cristiano Ronaldo will appear in court on July 31 following allegations of tax evasion from Spanish prosecutors, according to reports.

The Spanish media have claimed the Real Madrid star must be in the courtroom in Pozuelo at 11am local time for the beginning of the case.

Ronaldo has been accused by prosecutors of defrauding Spanish tax authorities out of €14.7million, a claim he has strenuously denied.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner is alleged to have created a “business structure” in 2010 to conceal his earnings from image rights between 2011 and 2014.

The allegations have led to uncertainty about the 32-year-old’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Manchester United linked as a possible destination should he opt to leave Spain.

Madrid president Florentino Perez defended the superstar on Monday and insisted he would not be letting his prized asset leave unless a club can meet his €1billion buyout clause.

The transfer market has been hit with a trigger following Ronaldo’s hint that he could leave Spain if he is eventually hammered in the tax case.  Former Club Manchester United have left no one in doubt they are ready to welcome back one of their own while French Ligue one side PSG among others are also waiting on the wings. Real Madrid fans are divided over the development with some expressing optimism that their goal machine is going nowhere why some have taken the wait and see position as events unfolds.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been accused of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors investigating his time as Real Madrid’s head coach.

The Portuguese-born Mourinho is accused of defrauding Spain of €3.3m (£2.9m; $3.6m) in taxes between 2011 and 2012. He has yet to comment on the claim.

A prosecutor said he did not declare income from the use of his image rights in order to get an “illicit benefit”.

Other big names in football have been accused of tax fraud in Spain recently.

Those include Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who played under Mourinho and shares the same agent as him. The player is accused of defrauding tax authorities of €14.7m, by also hiding his income from image rights.

He denies the accusations and is threatening to leave Spain. The Portuguese-born star is set to give evidence in his case on 31 July.

Mourinho, 54, is accused of two counts of tax fraud – €1.6m in 2011 and €1.7m in 2012. The Madrid prosecutor said the case was presented to a local court.

Other footballers accused of tax fraud in Spain include:

    • Barcelona and Argentina footballer Lionel Messi, who has been handed a 21-month jail term. His father Jorge, who manages his finances, was also convicted
    • Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano – also an Argentine – admitted tax fraud, escaping a jail term with a one-year suspended sentence
    • Barcelona and Brazilian star Neymar is also facing allegations of corruption and fraud over his transfer to the Spanish club in 2013 – a case which also involves his parents. Prosecutors allege the transfer cost much more than publicly declared, and that millions were concealed from authorities

Ronaldo may leave Real Madrid after tax fraud accusation

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is not happy at being accused of tax fraud and wants to leave the club, a source close to the player said on Friday.

Spanish prosecutors have accused the 32-year-old Ronaldo of defrauding the authorities of millions of euros in tax.

Though he has since denied any wrongdoing, but the source who wanted anonymity said the accusation has upset the Portugal captain.

“He feels he’s honest, has good character and did everything OK,” added the source.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ronaldo’s Real Madrid contract has a 1 billion euro (about £874.88 million, or N450 billion) release clause.

“He’s very sad and really upset. He doesn’t want to stay in Spain. At this moment, he wants to leave,’’ the source added.

Ronaldo, who joined Real Madrid from English side Manchester United for £80 million (about N40 billion) in 2009, signed a five-year deal with the European champions in November 2016.

China would be one potential destination but the Portuguese forward’s advisers would prefer he stayed in Europe, most likely either moving to Paris St-Germain or returning to the Premier League.

Ronaldo, who has helped Real win the Champions League three times and La Liga twice, is accused of evading tax to the value of 14.7m euros (£13m; $16m) between 2011 and 2014.

Already, Real Madrid have released a statement saying they had “full confidence” in their player, and they were convinced he would prove his innocence.

In the 2016/2017 season, Ronaldo helped Real win the Spanish title for the first time since 2012 as well as retain the UEFA Champions League.

Ronaldo, who also won the Champions League with Manchester United in 2008, has scored a record 105 goals in the competition, 11 more than FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, his nearest challenger.

Bale and Benzema launch new home and away kits Madrid

Real Madrid have launched their new home and away kit as they start preparations ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The home shirt features whiter than last season with three blue stripes along the shoulders, which are supposed to represent the sky of the Spanish capital.

The away shirt sees a return to black, which Los Blancos have experienced success in before, most notably winning the Champions League in it in 2000. A neon turquoise badge and cuffs gives the kit a unique look.

A memorial stamp at the bottom of both jerseys commemorates the club’s 115th anniversary.

It means Real Madrid will say goodbye to the striking purple kit of the last campaign, which they wore when winning the Champions League earlier this month in a 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff.

Gareth Bale was on hand to model the new kits alongside team-mates Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, Marcelo, Isco and Nacho with manager Zinedine Zidane also making an appearance in the new tracksuit.

Climacool fabric will ensure players remain comfortable and perform at their best even as the temperature gauge rises. The kit is made from a brand new material that is designed to feel softer during exercise and day-to-day wear.

Their new shirts have a lot to live up to in terms of legacy with Real Madrid set to go into the new season as La Liga and European champions after an incredibly successful season under Zidane.

They sealed their first La Liga title since 2012, holding off Barcelona with a win over Malaga on the final day of the season before beating Juventus to become the first team to retain the Champions League since its rebrand in 1992.

Real Madrid backs Ronaldo in tax fraud allegation

Real Madrid have expressed “full confidence” in Cristiano Ronaldo after their star forward was accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities.

On Tuesday, prosecutors in Madrid filed a complaint to a court in Pozuelo de Alarcon accusing Ronaldo of a “voluntary” and “conscious” breach of his tax obligations.

According to a letter sent to the court by the prosecutor’s office, the 32-year-old is alleged to have created a “business structure” in 2010 to conceal his earnings from image rights between 2011 and 2014. He is claimed to have defrauded the Public Treasury out of €14.7million.

Ronaldo’s representatives Gestifute issued a lengthy statement strongly denying the accusation, insisting “there has never been concealment, or the slightest intention to conceal” earnings.

Gestifute, the group owned by the Madrid star’s agent Jorge Mendes, offered a breakdown of their client’s arrangements for payments related to image rights, which they say does not amount to an offshore structure for evading taxes and has not been altered since the company in question, Tollin, was established in 2004 when Ronaldo signed for Manchester United.

Madrid have now also offered their support to the four-time Ballon d’Or winner, believing him to be innocent of any wrongdoing.

A statement released on the club’s official website read: “Real Madrid C.F have full confidence in our player Cristiano Ronaldo, who we understand has acted in accordance with legality regarding the fulfilment of his fiscal obligations.

“Since his arrival at Real Madrid C.F in July 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo has always shown a clear will to fulfil all his tax obligations.

“Real Madrid C.F. are absolutely convinced that our player Cristiano Ronaldo will prove his total innocence in this process.

“Real Madrid C.F. hope that justice is done as quickly as possible so that his innocence can be proven as soon as possible.”

Real Madrid rejects Man U’s £52.4m bid for Morata

Real Madrid have rejected a £52.4m (€60m) offer for striker Alvaro Morata from Manchester United, Sky in Italy understand.
United goalkeeper David de Gea was not included in the offer, while Real Madrid are thought to want in the region of £78m for the forward.
The Spain international scored 20 goals in all competitions for Real last season, as the club clinched La Liga and the Champions League.
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata has been linked with a move away from the La Liga champions, could a move to the Premier League be on the cards?
If Manchester United fail to agree a deal for Morata, it is understood they will try to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino, who has a €100m (£87.3m) release clause in his contract.
Born in Madrid, Morata progressed through the Real Madrid academy to make his first team debut in December 2010, before exiting for Juventus in the summer of 2014 for £17.5m.
There are strong indications that United may go in pursuit of Torino’s Andrea Belotti should they fail to agree the Morata deal with Real Madrid.
In two seasons with Juventus, Morata won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles and was part of a run to the 2015 Champions League final, scoring as Juve lost 3-1 to Barcelona.
In June 2016, Real Madrid exercised a buy-back clause to bring Morata back from Juventus for £26.2m, and the forward has emerged as a key member of Zinedine Zidane’s squad.

  • Pepe says goodbye to Real Madrid fans

Pepe says goodbye to Real Madrid fans

Pepe has written a heartfelt farewell note to Real Madrid after confirming his 10-year Santiago Bernabeu stay will soon come to an end.

The combative central defender revealed on Monday he would not be extending his stay when his contract expires this month, having only been offered a deal for one more year instead of the two he was hoping for.

He has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, while rumours of a Premier League switch also abound, but on Tuesday the Portugal international was in the mood for nostalgia.

The 34-year-old wrote on Instagram: “On July 12, 2007 I arrived at Real Madrid with the illusion of a boy who arrived where he had dreamed every day of his childhood.

“Today, 10 years later, I have to stop wearing this badge. Every day I wore this shirt, I did it with the illusion of always.

“Today I can only thank all of you who have supported me, that you have written this beautiful story with me. Thanks to each one of you, who accompanied me. Thanks to all the friends and colleagues I know will stay wherever I go.

“I say goodbye also to this city, which has seen the birth and growth of my daughters. I am very happy for what I have achieved and I will carry your affection in the heart!

“And I say it again … The best of these 10 years ??? To train every day, to live with each and every one of the employees of this club … Treading the Santiago Bernabeu and feeling your support was always magic!

“In my heart I keep your affection, and this feeling of duty fulfilled … Real Madrid and your affection will always be part of my history, my life! Thanks and Until Always! “.

Pepe won three LaLiga titles with Madrid and a hat-trick of Champions League winners’ medals.

He was often criticised for his perceived ill-discipline on the field, which did little to win favour with neutrals, but he remains a popular figure among Los Blancos fans.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo: Nigerian fans hail ‘Ororo’ for spectacular EUFA Cup final

Cristiano Ronaldo: Nigerian fans hail ‘Ororo’ for spectacular EUFA Cup final

Portugual international, Cristiano Ronaldo, helped his team, Real Madrid, to win the EUFA Champions League Trophy  by beating Juventus, but admirers believe something special in him did the magic.

His numerous fans in Nigeria hailed each move and shouted “Ororo” each time he scores.

Ororo in Yoruba language means groundnut oil and what is the link between Ronaldo and groundnut oil?

“ We call him `Ororo because he is very slippery and fluid in the field. It is difficult to hold him as he is everywhere.

“He meanders from all angles and slippery like the oil,’’ says a 20-year-old student, Gbenga Ashiru of the is the third-most expensive Association Football transfer on 94 million Euros, from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009.

Ashiru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that on Tuesday in Lagos that Ronaldo contributed immensely to Madrid’s successes in the EUFA campaigns and winning of the Laliga in Spain.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

“Check out his outings in the just-concluded season.

“ The Portugal captain now has a remarkable record of 105 goals in 140 Champions League games — 12 of those coming in 13 games this season.

“Ronaldo has scored 600 goals in all competitions for club and country,’’ he said.

Another fan, Chris Ige, a sports analyst, says Ronaldo has done so much for his club and country.

“The nick name “Ororo’’ justifies his contributions to the club and country.

“The truth is that Ronaldo is a star player who has a way of destabilising opponents and getting vital goals.

“It is rare to see such players,’’ he said. “The only way to describe his moves is to say that he is very slippery and difficult to cage during games.’’

Ige noted that at 32, Ronaldo was still good.

“I am one of his great admirers and have followed his career. I am optimistic he has more to deliver in the next football season,’’ he said.

However, Wale Amos, a 23-year-old computer analyst, believes that Ronaldo’s prowess was a source of inspiration to many Nigerian youths.

“Football talents in our country, especially youths, will learn from Ronaldo`s style and translate it into play.

“I have also seen several of such youths shouting “Ororo’’ while playing and this is where the inspiration comes.

“Ronaldo is now a cult hero among young talents and they will strive to emulate his style.

“I am optimistic that one day, Nigeria will have a Cristiano Ronaldo. Indeed, our brand of Ororo will soon emerge and I pray, he should be as good as Cristiano.

“Nothing comes easy. Such talents need to work hard to get to Ronaldo’s level. I am sure Ronaldo did not become a star over night.

“We have potential in this country that can rise to Ronaldo’s level and it’s just a matter of time,’’ he said.

Amos also tasked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to leverage on the local league like the J-League sponsored by the Lagos State Government to discover such stars.

“I am aware that the J-league has produced stars like Wilfred Ndidi, Leicester City’s Midfielder, who recently won the club’s young player award this year.

“It has also produced Victor Osimhen, former national U-17 star. There is need to encourage other states to emulate the Lagos example.

“The aim is to discover many talents and have ready-made materials at all times.

“Nigeria will benefit from such a venture,’’ he said.

For those who do not know the meaning of “Ororo’’ and its link to football, Cristiano Ronaldo is the man behind the mask.

His numerous fans in Lagos gave him the name to show how slippery and fluid he can be in the field.

  • Real Madrid-bound Hernandez in sexual assault saga

Real Madrid-bound Hernandez in sexual assault saga

Real Madrid-bound defender Theo Hernandez is the subject of a sexual assault investigation, according to reports in Spain.

Hernandez, 19, who is poised for a big-money move from Atletico Madrid across the city this summer, is alleged to have assaulted a 20-year-old woman in a Marbella nightclub.

    He has denied the charge.

Spanish newspapers El Espanol and Marca have both cited police sources confirming a report has been filed.

The Spanish press claim there are some ‘contradictions’ within the accounts of what happened.

According to Marca, the complainant has stated that she and Hernandez were friends and had gone out for drinks at the Olivia Valere nightspot when the footballer suggested they go out into the car park.

The woman claims she and Hernandez were engaged in sexual activity inside a Porsche Cayenne but she asked him to stop, the reports say.

However, it is alleged that Hernandez did not stop and a struggle ensued, during which he continued to sexually assault her before throwing her from the car.

The woman also claims that she was subsequently insulted by Hernandez’s former Alaves team-mate Alexis when she returned to the club.

Hernandez will move to Real Madrid in a move worth around £21m when the summer transfer window is opened.

He recently riled the France Under 21 setup by failing to turn up for training despite being called up for national duty.
