  • Osun builds rehabilitation centre for destitute

    The Osun State Government has built a rehabilitation centre for destitute.

    It will serve as a transit camp, where destitute evacuated from major roads would be rehabilitated and empowered.

    The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Biyi Odunlade, made this known while speaking with reporters after the evacuation of mentally-challenged persons on major roads in Osogbo, the state capital, by his ministry.

    He re-affirmed the commitment of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration to the care of the destitute, who he said need the government’s support to live normal lives.

    Odunlade said destitute evacuated from the roads would be treated before they are re-integrated into the society.

  • Osun State to spend N1bn on rehabilitation of hospitals in 2013

    Government of Osun State will invest a sum of N1billion on the rehabilitation of the nine state hospitals in 2013.

    The governor, Ogbeni  Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday while flagging-off the free medical eye treatment, organised by the state government in collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation, based in Saudi Arabia.

    The free medical mission includes free eye screening, free eye surgeries and distribution of free eye glasses to the patients, among others.

    The governor also said that within the last one year, his administration had spent a sum of N120 million for the procurement of drugs for the free health programme of the government.

    This, according to him, is in addition to several other steps, including the procurement of new medical equipment being embarked upon by the government.

    He said: “This medical mission is part of our administration’s efforts to provide standard healthcare for our people. Our approach to healthcare is aimed at ensuring good health in all aspects of the lives of our people.”

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, commended the governor for his efforts at providing good healthcare for the people.

    She said the mission was aimed at nothing other than to save the people from eye diseases, especially cataract and glaucoma that could eventually result into blindness.

     

  • FG begins rehabilitation of Enugu-Port Harcourt highway

    THE Federal Government has commenced rehabilitation of the badly- damaged Enugu/Port- Harcourt Expressway, which has been abandoned for years.

    The Minister of State for Works, Bashir Yuguda, disclosed this while inspecting the highway.

    He expressed satisfaction with the standard of works carried out on some parts of the expressway.

    Yuguda revealed that four contractors have been mobilised to rehabilitate the road, pointing out this will accelerate the pace of work ahead of the fast-approaching Christmas season.

    He assured that the Federal Government will rehabilitate all bad roads across the nation.

    The Minister lamented that previous administrations did not do much on the highway, stating that its total reconstruction is a top priority of the government.

     

  • N5b for rehabilitation of UN building

    The Federal Government yesterday approved N5.1billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of sections of the United Nations building that was destroyed by suicide bomb attacks in 2011.

    The terrorist group, Boko Haram, claimed responsibility for the bombing.

    The contract was awarded to Julius Berger with a 16-month period.

    Minister of Information Labaran Maku said this at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

    Maku said: “The UN building is very strategic to Nigeria, it ensures that most UN agencies operating within the West African sub-region are located here in our country. It has offered employment opportunities to Nigerians .

    “Because it is the headquarters here in our country, the various development opportunities that its department offered have been highly maximised.”

    He said the intervention for the reconstruction of the UN building is part of the present administration’s commitment to support the organisation’s operation .

    “Since the incident, most agencies under the UN were provided temporary accommodation in different locations across the city.”

    Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Senator Bala Mohammed said the project will create goodwill for the country.

    Besides, he said the contract is in line with the promise made by the Federal Government to assume responsibility for the reconstruction of the building.

    He praised the various government agencies which provided temporary accommodation for the various departments of the UN.

  • Jang orders rehabilitation of flood victims

    Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang yesterday directed the Governing Council of the state Disaster Management Agency to begin rehabilitation of flood victims.

    The 29-member governing council is chaired by Deputy Governor Ignatius Longjan.

    The governor urged members to handle the exercise with the fear of God.

    Jang spoke at the Government House in Jos, the state capital, at the inauguration of the governing council.

    He said: “This Governing Council of the state Disaster Management Agency is very dear to the hearts of this government and people of the state. As pioneer members of this council, therefore, much is expected of you to commence your work immediately.

    “Your inauguration today means you have to commence the rehabilitation of flood victims immediately. We have the fund and relief materials on ground for distribution.

    “While you are being guided by law, I urge you to bring in vigour and ingenuity into the management of the agency. You should be driven by the management perspectives of consistency, persistency and resilience, if result must be achieved.”

    The governor expressed his administration’s sympathy with victims of floods.

    He urged the governing council to do the job with the fear of God.

    “The assignment is as tasking as it is challenging. There are funds on ground already as well as assorted relief materials to be distributed to victims of the recent floods.

    “I expect you to commence your assignment immediately, avoid being selfish and operate with the fear of God,” Jang said.

    Jang signed into law the executive bill establishing the State Emergency Management Agency as passed by the House of Assembly.
