  • You can’t be great in life without big trials, says RMD

You can’t be great in life without big trials, says RMD

Veteran movie star, Richard Mofe-Damijo has shared his challenges while shooting a movie, saying that to accomplish great things, one must necessarily encounter great hurdles.

He said that third day into the shoot, he was involved in a terrible accident which put a halt to the movie for a while.

He noted that he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he was being treated.

The actor admitted to have been shown genuine care by the cast and crew members but had to make a crucial decision to endure the pain for them to continue their shoot.

He described that phase as one big trial he needed to overcome and that he braced up for it.

According to him, while they shot even in that state, the pain further helped in adding substance to his character.

Narrating the events, the renowned actor stated: “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them” – Job 1:5

“It’s impossible to do a big thing without big trials. My own biggest hurdle doing The Black Book was accidentally pouring boiling water on myself 3 days into production!

“The shoot was going great and I had a great time for three days Then had the morning off.

“I did not have to make myself coffee that morning – I could have just ordered it from the hotel, but I was Paul Edima now, a man who cooks for his son, so I was staying in character and being self sufficient.

“I do not exactly remember the sequence of events, but what I remember is hot, scalding water pouring on both my thighs and knee seeing my skin move as I rubbed it in panic and hearing the waiter scream “don’t touch it, don’t touch it”!

“My first thought was to the film, what is this temptation? The implication was clear, we may have to delay the shoot. I called Editi..I could hear the gears spin in that head of his. I didn’t have to explain anything, he knew. But he didn’t speak about the film.

He further stated: “We have to get you to hospital immediately “No one spoke about the film at all. @lalaakindoju sent flowers and a care package and all they talked about was me getting better,

“I knew and saw, this was the big trial I had to overcome. Too many people who look up to me had worked to bring us to this stage-I would not be letting them down.

“The way out was to have my legs wrapped up and protected, in a way that allowed me function. I was still in pain, but this is why we trained. I could take the pain. It added to the character.

“The way out was to have my legs wrapped up and protected, in a way that allowed me function. I was still in pain, but this is why we trained, I could take the pain. It added to the character.

“My first scene, I had to react quickly, fall, and get up quickly. Everyone looked at me worried. I looked back, trying to numb the pain. The pain refused to go, there was no going around the pain win, so I powered through it. Blood and all!

“After every take, Editi and 5 or 6 people would rush to me to see if I’m ok. We were building a family!…until midway through the night, our generator went up in flames!

“Can’t seem to catch a break! But that’s a story for another day. The Black Book is coming #THEBLACKBOOK #NETFLIXNAIJA #RMDSaysSo.”

  • Be real, RMD advises in New Year’s message

Veteran actor, lawyer and politician, Richard Mofe Damijo, has advised people to place their hopes of making it on ‘faith’ rather ‘faking it.’

Taking to Instagram, RMD as the actor is populalry called, said it is better to be real and have faith than being fake.

“I’m no longer surprised when people who earn next to nothing allegedly buy multi million dollar cars and homes,” he wrote on New Year’s day, “after all the catch phrase is “FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT” but the question is, is faking it a guarantee to making it? Absolutely not.

“I have never believed the principle of faking it till you make it because it is a faulty principle that often puts people in trouble so I want to share a principle that has worked for me, which is the principle of FAITH and utter total trust in God’s word. The principle that is sure to not only produce results but produce results that are long lasting not the fleeting fame and fortune that comes with FAKING IT.

“So welcome to 2019 and instead of faking it again this year, I dare you to “FAITH IT TILL YOU MAKE IT” Happy new year again people. One Love.”

  • RMD, others for Face of Nollywood competition

Years after its maiden edition was held, Total Television Studios, in partnership with Organseed International, has returned with the second edition of the Face of Nollywood (FON) Awards.

Designed with the aim of discovering the most popular Nollywood personality, organisers of the awards which come up June 30 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, say the reward system stands out because movie lovers will get to pick the winners themselves.

Already 162 popular acts, made up of veterans and newbies have been lined up for as contestants for the award.

Among them are Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Patience Ozorkwo, Daniel K Daniel, Kate Henshaw, Genevieve Nnaji, Adeola Odunlade, Pete Edochie, Funke  Akindele, Halima Abubakar, and a host of others.

Speaking at the unveil, which took place at Tivoli Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos last Thursday, CEO of Total Television Studios, Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi said that the idea behind choosing a face, rather than several faces in several categories as is the case with other awards is what sets Face of Nollywood awards miles ahead of its closest competitor.

“The idea is to discover someone who has a recognizable huge fan base, uncommon acting talent and a star personality that millions of Nigerians home and abroad as well as Africans can clearly identify with, display open admiration for and look up to for inspiration and hope. Such a personality does exist and may shock us all who he or she turns out to be.”

According to the organisers, the voters will ultimately decide the choice for the current year. Candidates for the awards are selected randomly by a panel of award jurists.

The overall winner will go home with N1 million, a plaque and a certificate of award while the first and second runners up will go home with N300, 000 and N250, 000 respectively.

Organisers also revealed that the voting process will be handled online by Vas2nets while Ntel, TeGroup, Achievas, as well as Unda Group were listed among the sponsors.

  • Be intentional, RMD advises young actors

Veteran actor Richard Mofe Damijo, known as RMD has advised young people to ‘be intentional’ in any chosen career.

Posting on his Instagram page, RMD wrote. ”Many times I’ve been asked what advice I have for young actors and lately I have come to realise that the best advice for anyone, irrespective of career path is to be intentional.

“You do not wake up in the morning, have a bath, dress up nice and leave your house without an intention. You leave to either  go to work, school, church, market, just take a walk, see a movie, whatever… The point is you step out with an intention. Even if all you want to do is “waka round” without going anywhere in particular, that in itself is still an intention. This same theory must be applicable in your life, be intentional. Do not live your life without an intention. Don’t enter a relationship without an intention. Don’t start a business without an intention. Don’t pursue a career without an intention.

“Draw up a long term plan and have a short term one that will help you achieve it, then work towards the plan intentionally. So if you need my advice, it would be these two words ‘Be intentional’.”

After making his name as an actor, in 2008 served in Delta State, first as a Special Adviser to the state governor and later as Commissioner of Culture and Tourism.

After his service with Delta State, he announced his return to the entertainment scene and reactivated his social media accounts.
