  • Court remands three robbery suspects

    An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded in Ikoyi Prison three men accused of wishing a man of his  Honda car on Third Mainland bridge.

    Emeka Eze, 29, Chinaza Nwaenyi, 26, and Tochukwu Ezekude, 38,  are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

    Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

    Olatunji adjourned the case till  July 18.

    Prosecuting Inspector Oladele Adebayo told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 25 at about 10.00p.m., at the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

    Adebayo said  the accused, armed with offensive weapons, robbed the complainant, Mr Olutunmi Akinkunmi, of his car marked LND 193 CA, valued at N350, 000.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

  • Four robbery suspects arrested

    The police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested four members of a six-man gang.

    The suspects were alleged to have robbed customers of a new generation bank of N3.2 million.

    Those nabbed include Aniefiok Sunday, 29, Remembrance Obike, 35, Obe Awa, 29 and Benjamin Emeka, 29.

    Sunday said: “We go to banks and monitor customers. If any of them withdraws a huge amount, we inform our colleagues, who are outside, to attack the person.

    “We have robbed at the bank on two occasions before I was caught. We didn’t kill.’’

    Obike said security guards attached to the bank identified them during another operation “and we were arrested.”

    He said they were informants to a six-man gang, which specialised in trailing and robbing customers who withdrew huge cash.

    “On February 6, we went to a bank at Uyo. A security guard identified my colleague, followed him and apprehended him. When I came in, he held me. I am an informant to Obe and Emeka. The CCTV caught him (Sunday) during our last robbery,’’ Obike said.

    Obe, a graduate of Business Administration and Management, from Rivers State Polytechnic, regretted that he resorted to robbery because of joblessness and inability to care for his expectant wife.

    Said he: “We are robbers. Two of our colleagues were arrested in Uyo and they brought the police to Port Harcourt to arrest me.

    ‘’We are six; two escaped. We have robbed banks in Port Harcourt and Uyo. I handled one of the AK 47 rifles. Our aim is not to kill victims, but to steal their money. I am into robbery because I lost my job. I have an expectant wife. She doesn’t know I am a robber.’’

    Emeka confessed that he was lured into robbery by a friend.

    He said he was arrested in Umuahia.

    Police spokesman Odiko Macdon said Sunday and Obike led the police to Port Harcourt and Umuahia where Obe and Emeka were nabbed, adding that their leader, ‘Elder’, ran away.

    He said the command is on its trail.

    Macdon warned criminals to steer clear of the state, “as we are determined to make the environment not conducive for them to operate.”

    Police arrest six armed robbery suspects in Enugu

    The Police in Enugu State have arrested six armed robbery suspects in Alulu Nike on the outskirts of Enugu metropolis.

    The spokesman of the state’s police command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, alleged in a statement on Saturday that the suspects carried out the crime on Oct. 25 at a house located at Alulu Nike at about 1 a.m.

    Amaraizu said that those arrested included two suspected robbers, three suspected receivers, and a Keke NAPEP operator.

    “Following intelligence information, the police operatives of the New Haven Division arrested two suspects who gave their names as Chika Ezenwa alias Chiboy and Emmanuel Sunday alias Daddy B.

    “The two were arrested alongside other gang members who allegedly went to a victim’s house at Alulu Nike.

    “They broke into the house and robbed the occupants of the building of their various valuables at gun points.

    “It was further gathered that the hoodlums noticing that police operatives are aware of their misdeed; quickly escaped.

    “They were pursued and in the course of their escape, they were promptly closed up that early morning at about 2 a.m. by police operatives.

    “However, some members of the gang narrowly escaped while Ezenwa and Sunday were apprehended,’’ he said.

    Amaraizu said that following their arrest, the case was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) where in a follow up investigations, one Abraham James alias Latty was also arrested on Oct. 29.

    “Also, one Onyebuchi Onwe of Obinagu Amuri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, a notorious receiver of armed robbery exhibits, was arrested by the operatives on Nov. 2.

    “On Nov. 6, arrested in connection with the incident is one Agu Ebuka for allegedly receiving robbed and stolen properties together with one Yakubu Huseli.

    “Huseli was arrested for his role of always conveying suspects and exhibits with a tricycle popularly known as Keke NAPEP,’’ he said.

    The spokesman said that items recovered from the suspects included three 32-inch Plasma televisions; three vehicles, an Apple laptop; two small laptops; and one ipad.

    Amaraizu said that the suspects had been helping the police operatives in their investigations while man-hunt had been intensified against other fleeing members of the gang.

  • Court remands three robbery suspects

    Rivers State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt has remanded three suspects in prison custody for alleged robbery.

    They are Godwill Hart, 24; Junior Abbey, 31 and Kabiru Mohammed, 45.

    The suspects allegedly robbed Beatrice J.A. Hart of her jewellery, coral beads and wrappers, at New Road, Bonny, on August 27.

    They were arraigned on a a six-count charge of robbery, unlawful possession of arms and conversion.

    The third accused, Muhammad, was charged with buying stolen goods.

    He was represented by a lawyer, who appealed for his bail, but it was not granted.

    Police prosecutor Wilson Isaiah told the court that their offences contravened Section 6 (b) and Section 1 (2) of the Robbery and Firearm (special provision) Act Cap RII Laws of the Federation 2004, and Section 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume II Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.

    Magistrate Sokari Andrew Jaja, ordered that the case file sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice, and adjourned  till October 24.

  • Oyo police arrest 10 robbery suspects

    Oyo state police Command have arrested and paraded ten criminal suspects who have confessed to be responsible for series of armed robbery attacks in different parts of the state .

    Out of the ten suspects paraded with handcuffs , five claimed to have been sent to prison in the past , and later returned to the heinous crimes.

    Among them, Yekini Saheed ‘m’ (33) , Sunday Peter ‘m’ (27), and Mohammed Azeez ‘m’ (28),  have all served various sentences at Agodi Prisons before returning to crime after been released.

    The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude who led other senior police officers including Mr Sanusi Buba, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations told newsmen  that Yekini Saheed and his gang had raided several houses, robbing victims of their phones , cash and other valuable properties in the city of Ibadan and environs.

    He said during the robbery , the deadly gang shot a victim in the eye at Ayedun and killed a night guard who stood in their way during a robbery operation at Ehin Grammar area of Ibadan.

    The suspects while answering questions from newsmen confessed to the attack and pleaded for clemency.

    One of the robbery suspects Jamiu Morufu ‘m’ (24) appealed for forgiveness , while others promised never to go back to crime when released .

    Other criminal suspects paraded at the weekend were Lateef Olalekan ‘m’ (37), Ojo Adebayo ‘m’ (40), Olayiwola Akeem ‘m’ (28), Victor Joseph ‘m’ (25), Oluwaseun Aderibigbe ‘m’ (27),  and Isaiah Rafiu ‘m’ (28).

     

     

     

    Confessing to the crime, Oluwaseun Aderibigbe , a graduate from the University of Port-Harcourt said it was frustration out of joblessness that forced him into crime , having waited for about five years without gainful employment.

    He was to have broken into the  apartment of his former boss in Lagos , where he did his National Youth Service Corp ( NYSC) in the night time and carted away several valuable property including victim’s Sorenzo Kia Jeep in which the stolen valuables were taken away .

    To cover his track, Aderibigbe and his partner in crime, Isaiah Rafiu were said to have vandalized a CCTV camera installed in the house and made away with the PVR decoder .

    The police Commissioner told newsmen that nemesis however caught up with the suspects when , through credible intelligence , they were arrested at their criminal hideout at Cele Adaba  , Apete area of Ibadan by operatives of Special Anti Riot Squad .

    Items recovered from the suspects included One Sorenzo Kia Jeep, a Dell laptop, one Samsung ipad, one Samsung S4 and an itel phone , a PVR CCTV decoder and assorted jewellery, expensive perfumes and four pieces of ankara fabrics .

     

  • Community vigilante nabs two robbery suspects in Ibadan

    Two armed robbery suspects terrorising Mosorire community, in Soka area of Oyo State has been arrested by the vigilante headed by Sunday Adeyemo aka Igboho, a personal aide of the former Governor of Oyo State, Sen Rashidi Ladoja and handed over to the police.

    Igboho spoke when the residents of the community through the Landlord Association visited him to appreciate his immense contribution to the community.

    He said the arm robbers numbering about 10 stormed the Mosorire community around 1am, injuring the residence and looting them of their personal belongings.

    ‎Adeyemo said the robbers has been terrorising the rest of us on a daily basis and without inhibition, adding that the rampaging hoodlums threw caution to the wind and operated in the area incessantly.

    He  noted that the armed robbers often finish and leave before the police arrive.‎

    “Before I relocated to this community, arm robbers has incessantly rob this area of their belongings and during their several operation so many residence has been injured, while others are also rapped. The landlord association ran to me for my assistance when I moved into my house and we started 24 hours surveillance with my boys.

    “This is the second time the ‎robbers were coming to a certain house in our area, so around 1am we heard the noise of one of my boys called ‘Talanta’ and we responded but before we got there he has been stabbed and wounded but we arrested one of them, but the rest ran away and came back in an attempt to rescue one of them but that was when we arrested the second one” he said

    ‎Adeyemo stated that he had always been misrepresented by many because they never care to verify the cause he stood for.

    “My name is always on the air. Many have misrepresented me for a violent person and which is not so. I have never been charged for fraud and murder. I have always stood for a peaceful and just society, and that I will never repent from. I am an easy going man, who will never trade my conscience for injustice,” he said.

    He said that his name became much popular because he stood with Ladoja against the injustice melted on him by late Chief Lamidi Adedibu.

    Adeyemo commended Oyo State Governor; Abiola Ajimobi for returning peace back to Oyo State in the state, adding it has never been so good before his administration came on board.

    “I am not a fan of Ajimobi and we are not in the same party. But, I can say it frankly that Ajimobi has brought peace to Oyo State. I commend his doggedness on this,” he said.

    Earlier, the Chairman of Mosorire Lanlord Association, Imam Sefiu Fasasi, stated that Adeyemo has contributed immensely to the development of the community.

    “Adeyemo is a peace-loving, kind and generous man. He has helped the community tremendously. Adeyemo constructed a neglected bridge, donated electric poles, cable and a 500KVA transformer to the community and environs,” he said.

    Fasasi stated that Adeyemo did not only donate to the community but has helped in warding off marauders and robbers from the area.

    “Just few days ago, he led his boys to help the community against a robbery attack on the community which saw to the arrest of two members of the robbery gang. The arrested robbers have been handed over to the police and has led to the arrest of many others,” he said.

    He said that the community would forever be grateful to Adeyemo, whom they described as their benefactor.

    Other members of the association in their various comments lauded Adeyemo, describing him as a patriotic, peace-loving and generous Nigerian.

  • 23 kidnap, robbery suspects paraded in Ibadan

    Barely a week after resuming office, Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abiodun Adekunle Odude yesterday paraded five suspects for their alleged involvement in the kidnap of a 42-year-old woman in Ibadan, the state capital.
    He also paraded 18 robbery suspects for alleged car snatching and burglary.
    Parading the suspects at the Eleyele Police Command Headquarters, Odude said on February 25, about 10pm, a group of men trailed a 42- year-old woman from Ojoo to her house in Akobo.
    “They robbed her of her valuables, including cash, jewelries and phone and later took her to a forest in Ogere, Ogun State, where she was kept for two days.
    “The victim was gagged and blindfolded and the suspects contacted her family for a ransom before she was released on February 27.
    “Based on intelligence gathering, we contacted our men in Lagos and the RRS arrested three of them in Lagos and my men also arrested four others in Ibadan,” he said
    The suspects are Folorunso Aderopo (31), an ex-convict who was released last August; Taoreed Ibrahim; Wilfred Manger; Moshood and Umar Amadu.
    A Toyota Highlander, one Nokia phone, Samsung S5 phone, eight sim cards and one Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card were recovered from them.
    The kingpin, Aderopo, said someone gave him the tip that the woman is rich.
    “So myself, Wilfred and Umar went to Ojoo that day and we traced her to Akobo were we robbed her before kidnapping her.
    “It was Umar who said we should take her to the bush that she will give us more money. We took her to a bush in Ogere and collected N3 million.
    “But before then, I was caught. We initially requested for N5 million. I was arrested in Lagos with the woman’s vehicle,” he said
    In an interview with the victim, she said the kidnappers followed her home while returning from work.
    “Immediately the gate to our house was opened they attacked us and told everybody to lie down and after all our valuables were collected they took me along with them in my Toyota Highlander.
    “I was blindfolded and at a point we came down and started trekking in the forest for two days before they ask my family to pay N5 million but they negotiated and N3millon was paid and I was released,” she said.

    Police nab four robbery suspects in Enugu

    The Enugu State Police Command has said it has arrested four robbery suspects operating on Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road in Nsukka.

    Spokesman Ebere Amaraizu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the four suspects were nabbed through intelligence information.

    He said an AK47 rifle and English pump action gun were recovered from them.

    Amaraizu said the suspects were tracked down by operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.

    “It was gathered that the suspects identified as Friday Nwafor and Nweke Lebechi belonged to a notorious kidnap syndicate operating with an AK47 rifle in Nsukka and its environs.

    “They were arrested by the police with their AK 47 rifle at a place identified as one-man village, Kwakwa, Abuja, after a gun duel on Sunday about 7 a.m.

    “Umar Garba and Adamu Ibrahim were nabbed by the police at their hideouts at Gariki Awkunanaw in Enugu South Local Government and Asaba in Delta State on November 5 and 6,’’ he said.

    The spokesman said the police had continued their manhunt for the other members of the gang.

    “The command has renewed its onslaught against criminals terrorising the public to keep the state calm and quiet throughout the Yuletide,’’ he added.

  • Police nab two robbery suspects

    Police said they have arrested two robbery suspects who specialise in burgling houses and dispossessing people of their money and belongings at gunpoint in Nsukka, Enugu State.

    Spokesman Ebere Amaraizu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at 8 a.m.

    He said the suspects were nabbed after a distress call to operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Nsukka zone.

    The suspects are: Chinedu Omeje, 25, from Akpa Edem in Nsukka and Onyebuchi Ezema, 22, from Amaogwu Edemm, also in Nsukka.

     Amaraizu told NAN that Ezema was an ex-convict, who recently regained freedom after serving a jail term over nefarious activities ranging from petty stealing to robbery.

    He said: “The duo were arrested by the operatives following a distress call.

    “As a result of their arrest and revelations, some of the burgled and stolen items were recovered from the suspects.

    “Items were also recovered from Ifeoma Ugwu, 36, the receiver of the stolen goods. She claimed to be a widow.

    “They are helping the police in their investigation.’’

    Amaraizu said two single barrel locally-made guns, a rubber pistol, five live cartridges and one expended cartridge were recovered from the suspects.

    Police kill two robbery suspects

    Two suspected armed robbers were yesterday gunned down by policemen at the Isolo area of Lagos.

    The suspects were said to be among a gang of four who attacked a customer at a gas station around Oke-Afa.

    It was gathered that the hoodlums trailed the unidentified man from a bank where he had gone to withdraw some money to the petrol station where he was shot at.

    After shooting the man, the gunmen who ride on two motorcycles were said to have fled through Ago Roundabout, but they were pursued by policemen from Okota Division.

    It was gathered that the policemen chased the robbers till they got to Limca Way at Ilasa, where there was an exchange of gun duel.

    The Nation gathered that the police recovered N250,000 cash, two Berreta pistols and 19 rounds of ammunition from the slained robbers.

    According to the command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police  (SP) the robbers upon sighting the police opened fire on them, prompting a retaliation.

    In the course of the battle, two of the robbers were killed while the others fled, she said.

    Badmos said: “Around 11am, we received information that robbers were operating at Y.T.K filling station by Oke Afa bus stop, Isolo. They snatched an undisclosed amount of money and were heading towards Okota.

    “Upon receipt of the information, the DPO Okota, Etim Godwin, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) mobilised the foot and vehicular patrol men who chased the robbers to LIMCA way, Isolo.

    “Two of the robbers on sighting the police team opened fire while the police responded. The robbers fell in the gun duel while two others fled.

    Two Barreta pistols and 19 rounds of ammunition were recovered from them together with the sum of N250,000 while others escaped. A boxer motorcycle marked FKJ718QH used by the robbers was recovered to the station.

    “The victim of the armed robbery attack is recovering in the hospital from the bullet wound he sustained; while effort is on to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The command remains resolute in ridding the state of criminal elements.”
