    Adefarati’s son, Agagu’s brother, others in Ondo commissioners’ list

    The son of a former Governor of Ondo State, late Chief Adebayo Adefarati, Adegboyega and the younger brother of late Governor Olusegun Agagu, Femi, were among the commissioner nominees presented to the state House of Assembly by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Tuesday.

    Other nominees include a media consultant, Yemi Olowolabi, who is the former Chief Press Secretary to late Agagu, former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Taofiq Abdulsalam, Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko Northwest local government area of the state, Rasheed Badmus, former Commissioner for Natural Resources, Prince Solagbade Amodeni, ex- Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Akure North, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye and Mrs. Omowumi Olatunji-Edet.

    Ojogo Donald, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, Funso Esan, former Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan, Alhaji Olurimisi Ismaila, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Bayonle Ademodi, Lola Fagbemi, seasoned banker and hotelier, Otunba Timehin Adelegbe and Kola Olawoye completed the list.

    Ondo APC crisis: Elders call for reconciliation

    The Ondo State Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for reconciliation among all warring groups in the party.

    A statement by the elders said it was important to wrestle the APC from its current state of disunity, mutual distrust and rudderless position.

    The statement signed by Sen. Farukanmi Olorunnimbe, Chairman of the council, and made available to newsmen in Akure on Tuesday, said that the APC needs a strong executive council to lead it to victory in 2019 general elections.

    Olorunnimbe said that the council would intervene to end the ongoing drift, and urged members to unite and provide very strong support to Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to deliver on his promises to the electorate.

    “It is, therefore, most embarrassing that the APC state executive is in disarray since the completion of the Nov. 26, 2016 gubernatorial election.

    “The role which the executive of the APC in Ondo State should play in strengthening of the administration of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu has been neglected, and this is most unfortunate.

    “Let us strive to ensure and facilitate a process of re-organisation, re-branding and re-positioning of our great party to face emerging challenges.

    “All members of APC in Ondo state must rally round and reconcile, so that we can face future elections as a united team,” he said.

    The chairman of the elders council advised the governor to look into the grievances of some members of the party executive, to bring about necessary solution.

    He urged APC leaders in the South West to consult regularly, so as to know what was going on in the party.

    Olorunnimbe complained that the state had been neglected in terms of appointment by the Federal Government and called for change.

    “In a view of the massive support given by us in the election of President Muhammadu Buhari, our state has been totally neglected in the appointment into national positions,” he said.

    Experts hail Akeredolu’s achievements in 100 days

    A group of professionals, under the aegis of Ondo State Eminent Group (OSEG), has hailed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) for spreading developing across the state in his administration’s first 100 days in office.

    In a statement by a Lagos lawyer, Banji Alabi, OSEG said its position was informed by the governor’s development strides within the period.

    The group noted that despite the challenges the administration inherited, especially a crumbled economy, it deserved to be praised for making progress so far.

    It said though the state had not recovered, the governor had kept his promise to pay outstanding salaries and touch every sector positively.

    The statement said: “OSEG in equally elated that massive infrastructural development is going on across the length and breadth of the state.

    “Even in Akure, where flooding has been a major issue, we are happy that drainage channels have been constructed by the administration to tackle the problem.

    Adeleke buried amidst tears

    The remains of Sen. Isiaka Adeleke has been buried at his residence in Ede on Monday , the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

    The corpse was brought to the residence from Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo at about 10:46am, where the Chief Immam of Ede, Alhaji Moshood Akaje performed the funeral prayers at about 11:03 am.

    Adeleke’s body was immediately buried after the prayers amidst tears by families, friends and political associates.

    Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and Ibikule Amosun of Ogun, were among the dignateris  that attended the burial.

    Earlier in his sermon,  Alhaji Ibrahim Adekilekun, the Chief Imam of Ansarudeen, Ede, described Adeleke as a man loved by all during his life time.

    Adekilekun, who noted that death is inevitable for all humans, urged family members not to fight anyone over Adeleke’s death.

    Meanwhile, the Osun Government has declared a 3-day mourning in the state.

    This is contained in a statement by Mr Semiu Okanlawon, media aide to Gov Rauf Aregbesola on Monday in Osogbo.

    “This is in honour of the departed first Civilian Governor of the State of Osun, Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

    “The 3-day mourning period commences from Monday, April 24, 2017.

    “During the period of mourning, all flags are to fly half mast,” the statement said.

    Adeleke, 62, was the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District at the Senate under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) before his death on Sunday at a private hospital in Osogbo.

    Akeredolu appoints caretaker chairmen for 18 local councils in Ondo

    Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, on Sunday appointed  caretaker chairmen for the 18 local councils, according to  Mr Olusegun Ajiboye, his Chief Press Secretary.

    Sixteen of the appointees are men and two women.

    A High Court in Akure on Friday, annulled  the election of the former  chairmen of the councils on the grounds that the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and its logo were excluded from the election. The sacked chairmen were elected in April 2016.

    The caretaker chairmen are: Mr Aworetan Fayowole (Ilaje), Prince Odimayo Gbadebo (Irele), Mrs Morenike Alaka (Okitipupa), Prince George Adenikinju ( Odigbo), Mr Temidayo Akinsuroju (Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo), and Mr Bekewe Olowu (Ese-Odo).

    Others are: Mr Ebenezer Akinsulie (Ondo West), Mr Rafiu Akinkuolie (Ondo East), Mr Biyi Ayinnuola (Idanre), Mrs Atere Margaret  (Akure South), Mr Segun Oluyede (Akure North), Mr Dipo Ajibola (Ifedore), Mr Gani Omoluka (Owo), Mr Agboola Ajike (Ose) Mr Adeyemi Akinniyi (Akoko South/East), Mr Augustine Oloruntogbe (Akoko South/West), Mr Rafiu Eniayewu (Akoko North/East), and Arc. Moradeyo Ajayi (Akoko North/West).

    They will be sworn in by the governor on Monday, Ajiboye said.

    Akeredolu wants FG to dualise Isua/Okene road

    Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has urged the Federal government to dualise the Isua-Akoko/ Okene road because of its economic importance to the state.

    Governor Akeredolu said the road, being the link between South West to the federal capital territory, Abuja will serve a great interest if dualised.

    The governor spoke at the exco Chamber of the governor’s office in Akure, the state capital while playing host to the minister of Power, Works and Housing,  Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

    The minister was on official inspection of federal roads in the state.

    Governor Akeredolu who lauded the federal government for investing so much on infrastructure than any other administration pleaded with the federal government to complete all ongoing projects in the state.

    He particularly said dualizing the Isua-Akoko /Okene Road will boost the economy of the state and also help to ease transportation in the area.

    He said “the Federal government  is doing a lot but there are so many things to be done, the Federal Government  have spent quite a lot on infrastructure,  far more than any other  administration, building infrastructure

    “The Ipele /Ifira / Isua  to Okene Road is very important.  I wish it could be made a dual carriage way,  it is important to the economy viability of Ondo State,  it is also good for commuters, coming from Abuja to Ondo State ”

    The governor also frown at the over four years of total blackout in the southern Senatorial District of the state comprising six local government.

    He wondered why the whole community would be thrown into darkness when the electricity body can deal directly with individual, saying anyone who refused to pay for elect consumed can be cut off from the system but not the whole community.

    The governor who noted that power is crucial to economic development, urged the Federal government to intervene into the situation.

    Fashola appreciated the state government for giving the federal government lands for the housing unit schemes which is ongoing in the state.

    He informed the governor that Federal government has concluded plans to commence work on the Akure/Ado express road.

    According to the minister, the federal government is concern about connecting roads between states, saying the main concern of the government is on highway.

    The former Lagos state governor also hinted that the federal government has concluded arrangement to ensure that gas is adequately supply for the Omotosho power plants.

    He said “we have concluded plans to commence work on Akure /Ado Ekiti high way,  so as to connect you to Ado Ekiti your neighbouring state

    “As far as power is concern, we are working to increase the gas supply in Omotosho power plant, your state owns the power plant

    “I like to thank your state for giving us land for the housing,  most of the people who will be working in the construction sites will be residents of the state,  by that,  the federal government is helping the state government  to create employment,  and stabilize the economy”

    Fashola also promised that the Federal government will soon offset the claims of state government over their investment on federal roads.

    Akeredolu will fulfill all electoral promises, says APC

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Wednesday reassured residents that Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) would fulfil all his electoral promises.

    The APC reiterated this in a statement in Akure by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya.

    Adesanya promised prompt payment of workers’ salaries, job creation through industrialisation and agricultural revolution as well as peace and stability.

    Reacting to the advice by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) against creation of new local council development areas, Adesanya said: “Akeredolu will fulfill all electoral promises.”

    PDP had warned the governor against his proposal to create new local council development areas out of 18 local government areas promised during Akeredolu’s electioneering campaign.

    Adesanya stressed that there would be creation of local council development areas as promised by Akeredolu during campaign.

    “Contrary to what played out during the last administration, APC-Akeredolu is poised to steer the state’s affairs in the right direction and also deliver the true dividend of democracy to the good people of Ondo State,’’ he said

    Adesanya berated PDP for leaving behind a whooping debt of about N150 billion, eight months unpaid salaries of workers and several months of unpaid allowances and gratuities of pensioners.

    “What moral justification has Ondo-PDP leadership to advise APC-Akeredolu’s government?”

    “We view your advice as anti-developmental and evil against the people of the state.

    “It’s a clear attempt to derail our government so as to create bottleneck and distraction for Akeredolu.

    “The former government has no useful ingredient at its disposal to complement the efforts of this current administration,” he said.

    The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN has approved the appointment of  Mr. Oluwasegun Ajiboye as his Chief Press Secretary .
    An Assistant Editor with The Nation newspaper, Ajiboye studied Language and Linguistics from the University of Lagos.
    A native of Irun Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government of Ondo State,  Ajiboye started his journalism career as a reporter with The News magazine in 2000 and moved to The Sun newspaper in 2003.
    Between 2007 and 2009, he served as Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State. Ajiboye worked as the Group News Editor of the defunct National Life newspaper until 2012 when he joined The Nation as Assistant Editor of the Saturday title.
    Other appointments in the Press Unit include
    Mr. Dapo Aruwajoye  as Press Secretary (Electronic Media).  Aruwajoye, who hails from Owo, Ondo State, is a Reporter -Presenter with  Television Continental, TVC, Lagos.
    A graduate of English from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Aruwajoye also holds a Master’s Degree in Media and Globalization from Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham. U.K.
    He started his career as a reporter with Channels Television, Lagos, before moving to TVC where he has carved a niche for himself as a highly resourceful journalist.
    Mr. Fisayo Falodi as Press Secretary (Print Media). A graduate of Philosophy from University of Ado Ekiti, Falodi served as the Sub Editor of The Nation newspaper between December 2006 and November 2010.
    He moved  to National Mirror as Senior Sub Editor where he held sway for four years before joining Saturday Punch in 2014 as a Senior Correspondent.
    He is a native of Ijare, in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

    My emergence as Governor a miracle, says Akeredolu

    Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has described his emergence as governor of the state as “a miracle”.

    The governor said this at a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the All Saint’s Church, Jericho, Ibadan, on Sunday.

    Akeredolu, the APC candidate, defeated Mr Eyitayo Jegede of the opposition PDP and Dr Olusola Oke of the AD to emerge winner in the November 2016 governorship election in the state.

    He said his victory was a manifestation of the peoples trust and love for God.

    “I can tell you that our success and victory in the election was a miracle. I contested once and I told the Lord that if I win, I will build a place of worship for you.

    “I was not too sure that the victory will come but I said to the Lord that whether win, lose or draw I will build a place of worship for you.

    “It is because I have that strong faith in God and we did it. And now that same Lord gave us the victory. So, my people you don’t have to wait until he answers your prayers before you do things for God.

    “Do it may be that is where success will come. May be God remembered what we did and that was why he gave us victory, ” he said.

    Akeredolu promised to lead a purposeful government in the state, adding that he was indebted to the church because he had found all that he wanted in the church.

    According to him, “It was in this church that I became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, President of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and now a governor.”

    Earlier, Ven. Godwin Daramola in his sermon, urged the governor to make thanksgiving his lifestyle in order to experience the blessings of God on a daily basis.

    “When you acknowledge the blessings of God, he will be committed to preserving all that he has done for you,” he said.

    He charged Akeredolu to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ, to strive for integrity and to be wary of sycophants.

    Mrs Mojisola Ojo, Chairperson, Oyo State Branch of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, described Akeredolu as a staunch and committed member of the society.(NAN)

  • Ondo deputy governor promises dividends of democracy

    The newly sworn-in Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, has said that the people of the state will benefit from the new government’s dividends of democracy.

    He said this at a reception held in his hometown, Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.

    The new state government of All Progressives Congress (APC) headed by Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu and Ajayi were sworn-in as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively on Friday in Akure.

    Ajayi said that there were enormous tasks ahead of the new government, coupled with high expectations of the people.

    He advised people to exercise patience with the new administration in order to be fair to all.

    “We are aware of the huge task ahead of us and the high expectations of the people of the state but we plead with the people to exercise patience for us to study what is on ground.

    “We will make our people happy and we promise to be fair to all and not to disappoint all for the trust and confidence that have in us,” Ajayi said.

    The deputy governor however gave thanks to the Almighty God for the opportunity to serve and also to the electorate that voted for the new government to steer the ship of the state for a four-year term.

    He advised indigenes of the state to cooperate with the new government by renewing their support and prayers for the government to succeed in order to re-distribute the dividends of democracy.

    “I am using this opportunity to thank God and the people of this state for voting us. We sought for their prayers and cooperation to be successful,” Ajayi said.
