    3,000 youths to get Sanwo-Olu’s free ICT, vocational training

    No fewer than. 3000 young residents in Lagos are set to benefit from the sixth edition of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yearly ICT and Skill Acquisition programme.

    The programme, executed by Project LOUD Sanwo-Olu ICT and Skill Acquisition Centre, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has concluded plans to host the 2025, two months intensive training for interested residents of the state with the promise to equip participants with skills to function maximally in today’s ICT compliance world.

    The coordinator of the centre, Kenny Bakare, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos, while giving an update on the upcoming event.

    Bakare recalled that over 1,500 residents of the state successfully participated in the training and graduated in the year 2024.

    Bakare explained that Project L.O.U.D, aimed at equipping vulnerable youths with invaluable skills free of charge.

    He said “The beneficiaries are positioned to gain the expertise to start their own business or get a great job and become self-reliant and financially independent.

    “Turn your passion into profit, learn from experts, and access hands-on training.

    “Registration is ongoing and over 3000 beneficiaries are targeted for the programme, while over 1,500 trained fifth edition beneficiaries will be graduating as well during the graduation and induction ceremony scheduled for January 29, 2025.

    “Therefore, interested residents should not miss this opportunity to secure their future. Invest in yourself today, because skills are the keys to success.

    “Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu led Administration is committed to building a community where opportunity thrives, where everyone is not just self-sufficient, but a driving force for progress. Imagine a world where financial barriers are but a distant memory.”

    He further stated that online registration has closed, while physical registration takes place between January 15 and 16, 2025.

    The programme also aimed at unlocking the potential of beneficiaries with vocational skills, such as; Tailoring, catering, baking and pastry, shoe making, mixology, micro-blading, lash extension, wig making, tie and dye/adire, facials/massage and pedicure/manicure, among others.

    Sanwo-Olu promises transparent local council election

    Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday swore-in the new Chairman and members of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to credible and transparent local government elections.

    Speaking at the ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

    “Credible elections are the bedrock of sustainable development, and we will continue to support LASIEC in fulfilling its mandate,” he said.

    The newly appointed LASIEC team will be led by Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile. Others include Samson Ajibade, Akin Durojaiye Oluwo, Dr. Olumide Olusola Metilelu, Abeeb Dapo Aileru, and Oladele Adekanye.

    The governor charged the team to prioritise transparency, fairness, and impartiality in coordinating the upcoming local government elections across Lagos State.

    Sanwo-Olu emphasised the need for upholding integrity and accountability in election processes.

    He also urged election administrators and officials to prioritise transparency and fairness.

    “You must ensure that your actions reflect the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”

    He highlighted tools such as biometric voter registration and online platforms as vital to preventing fraud and improving voter education.

    The governor further stressed the importance of collaborating with stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organisations, and the media, to achieve free and fair elections.

    In addition to the LASIEC appointments, Sanwo-Olu swore in three new Permanent Secretaries including Mr AbdulRafiu Omowole Fashola, Mrs Kaphayah Olayemi Sarumi, and Mr. Abdul-Rasheed Abiola Muri-Okunola.

    He urged them to uphold professionalism, innovation, and effective implementation of government policies under the THEMES+ agenda.

    “As role models for the public service, your conduct must reflect the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability that this government upholds.”

    The Head of Service, Bode Agoro commended the timely appointment of the LASIEC members while emphasising its significance ahead of the state’s local government elections in its 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.

    In their remarks, Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile and Abdul Rafiu Fashola pledged to uphold the highest standards of integrity and contribute to the success of the THEMES+ agenda while ensuring transparent and credible elections in Lagos State.

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday signed the state’s N3.366 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.

    The bill tagged: ‘‘Budget of Sustainability”, was presented to the House of Assembly on November 21, 2024, representing 32.5 per cent increase over last year’s N2.3 trillion budget.

    Sanwo-Olu signed the bill at the Lagos House, Ikeja, in the presence of his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; and other top officials.

    He said: “On November 21, 2024, I stood before Lagos State House of Assembly to present the Appropriation Bill, a blueprint for continuity, resilience and sustainability. I thank the Lagos State House of Assembly for giving this bill expedited action.

    “We believe in the spirit of unity and collective support that we have always shared as the Centre of Excellence. On behalf of the state, I will like to express appreciation to the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, and all the members,” he said.

    The governor described the budget as the largest so far by any sub-national entity, saying the most critical phase would be its implementation in the next 12 months.

    The governor spoke yesterday when the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer of Teach For All Global Network, Wendy Kopp, visited him at Lagos House, Ikeja.

    “Education is the foundation upon which the future is built. Our discussions focused on the role education plays and how innovative teaching approaches can address challenges in access and quality,” 

    Teach For All is a global network that supports organisations in expanding opportunities, and improving access and quality in the education sector.

    Sanwo-Olu noted importance of educational partnerships, adding collaborative efforts are vital to achieving long-term educational goals.

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday signed the state’s N3.366 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.

    The bill christened the “Budget of Sustainability,” was presented to the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) on November 21, 2024, and represents a 32.5 percent increase over last year’s N2.3 trillion budget.

    Sanwo-Olu signed the bill at the Lagos House, Ikeja, in the presence of his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; and other top officials of the state.

    “On November 21, 2024, I stood before the Lagos State House of Assembly to present the appropriation bill, a blueprint for continuity, resilience, and sustainability. I thank the Lagos State House of Assembly for giving this bill expedited action.

    “We believe in the spirit of unity and collective support that we have always shared as the Centre of Excellence. On behalf of the state, I would like to express appreciation to the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, and all the members,” he said.

    The governor described the budget as the largest so far by any sub-national entity, adding that the most critical phase would be its implementation in the next 12 months.

    “It is with a deep sense of responsibility that we have signed this bill into law. The N3.36 trillion budget has N1.295 trillion earmarked as overhead costs and N2.07 trillion as capital expenditure. As you have heard, it will be the largest sub-national budget, and we are convinced that we will do justice to it. At the minimum, we aim to implement 90 to 95 percent,”

    He emphasised that a “Greater Lagos ambition” would be achieved through high-quality infrastructure to match the demands of a growing population.

    “Our focus is on ensuring the durability, functionality, and adaptability of our fiscal assets to meet the ever-growing needs of our people,” he said.

    Sanwo-Olu outlined the budget’s focus on five pillars: infrastructure sustainability, economic diversification, social inclusion and human capital development, environmental sustainability, and governance and institutional reforms.

    “Infrastructure sustainability is the backbone of any development agenda. Over the next three years, we will prioritize the maintenance, upgrading, and expansion of existing road networks,” he explained.

    On economic development, the governor noted that Lagos State would rely on multiple sectors to secure a resilient economy.

    The Chairman of Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation, Saheed Olumo pledged the Assembly’s support for Sanwo-Olu’s administration to provide residents with more dividends of democracy.

    Sanwo-Olu noted that 62 percent of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, while 38 percent is for recurrent expenditure. The state plans to generate N2.34 trillion internally and N626.13 billion from federal allocations.

    The governor revealed that a deficit financing of N398.662 billion had been carefully structured to ensure financial prudence.

    The State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George provided further details on the 2025 budget.

    “Some of the allocations in the budget include N223.3 billion for education and N222.2 billion for health, underscoring our priority to nurture a skilled workforce and deliver world-class healthcare services.

    “Recognising the global urgency of environmental sustainability, we have allocated N287.2 billion to environmental initiatives, further demonstrating Lagos’s leadership as the first state to establish a dedicated Climate Change Department and lead climate action at the sub-national level,”

    George also highlighted allocations of N140.9 billion for security and N37.3 billion for social protection.

    “Security and social protection remain at the heart of our development agenda, ensuring the safety of our citizens and addressing the needs of our most vulnerable populations.”

    Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed the state’s N3.366 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.

    The Bill, christened “Budget of Sustainability,” represents a 32.5 per cent increase over last year’s N2.3 trillion budget.

    The 2025 budget is composed of recurrent expenditure of N1.239 trillion, representing 41 per cent of the total budget, and capital expenditure of N1.766 trillion, which represents 59 per cent of the budget.
