    Sanwo-Olu tasks heads of agencies ongood governance, sustainable development

    Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged Heads of Agencies/Parastatals of government to renew their determination to build a Lagos State that is not only the commercial centre of Nigeria but also a model of good governance and sustainable development for the entire continent.

    The governor who spoke on Saturday through the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab at the closing of the maiden retreat for Heads of Agencies/Parastals held at Jubilee Charlet, Epe, said that working with an unwavering focus on delivering exceptional results in Lagos is most expedient.

    “I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your tireless dedication and service to the people of Lagos; This retreat is a crucial opportunity for us to pause, assess our progress, and re-evaluate our priorities to ensure we are effectively achieving meaningful outcomes for our community” he said.

    Sanwo-Olu said the government had consistently emphasized that good governance is a continuous process and the ultimate objective is to transform Lagos into a 21st-century economy that is inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable for all its citizens.

    Sanwo-Olu mentioned the LAG ID Project as an example which the government is employing to build a unified identity system to make it easier for Lagosians to access government services seamlessly.

    He said: “As heads of agencies, you are custodians of public trust; the decisions you take, the policies you implement, and the services you deliver directly impact the lives of Lagosians”

    “This is why we cannot afford to be complacent. We must challenge ourselves to think bigger, work smarter, and serve better.

    Sanwo-Olu inaugurates four road networks in Amuwo Odofin

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated four reconstructed road networks in Amuwo Odofin Local Government.

    He urged traditional rulers to preserve land for future infrastructure development.

    The newly reconstructed roads are Irede Road, Old Ojo Road (Phase One), Navy Town Road and Mumuni Adio Road (Buba Marwa).

    The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mojisola Meranda, traditional rulers and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Sanwo-Olu said the roads would serve as key links to Lagos Blue Line Rail on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and water transport jetties.

    He added: “These are four strategic roads that have changed the face of Oriade, Amuwo and Ojo. The first one is Irede Road, which has been completed up to Irede Jetty.”

    The governor advised residents to take ownership of the roads and avoid activities that could damage the infrastructure.

    He warned against dumping refuse on highways, saying offenders would be penalised.

    Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to extending the Old Ojo Road project into its second phase, from Maza Maza Bus Stop to Mile 2.

    “We are determined to deliver more projects in this council area,” he said.

    Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, highlighted the benefits of the completed roads.

    Sanwo-Olu celebrates Femi Pedro at 70

    Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised former deputy governor of Lagos, Femi Pedro for his remarkable contributions to the state economic growth as he marks his 70th birthday.

    Pedro served as deputy governor from 2003 to 2007 under former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    In a tweet on his X handle, Sanwo-Olu commended Pedro’s efforts in restructuring Lagos’ revenue system, describing him as a visionary leader whose work continues to positively impact the state.

    “As the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Otunba Pedro used his banking experience to contribute positively to the growth of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue,” Sanwo-Olu said.

    “His team, as the Chairman of the Lagos State Revenue Mobilisation Committee, restructured, reorganised, and re-engineered the Board of Inland Revenue, increasing Lagos State’s revenue from N300 million to N7 billion monthly within 18 months.”

    The governor, who described Pedro as a “dear older brother,” extended his good wishes on behalf of his family, the Lagos State government, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    “On behalf of my wife, family, the good people and government of Lagos State, as well as leaders and members of the GAC and APC, I join family, friends, and political associates to congratulate my dear older brother and former Deputy of Lagos State, Otunba Femi Pedro, on his 70th birthday,”

    Sanwo-Olu also prayed for Pedro’s continued good health and strength as he remains committed to serving humanity.

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been honoured as the Governor of the Year and received the prestigious Game Changer Award at the 30th anniversary of ThisDay Newspaper and the 12th anniversary of AriseTV, in recognition of his administration’s transformative governance and development initiatives.

    The awards ceremony was well-attended by dignitaries, media professionals, and stakeholders.

    In a tweet on his X handle, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of the recognition as a testament to the efforts of his administration in driving development across Lagos State.

    Sanwo-Olu hails FMC Abeokuta chair

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated and expressed confidence in the leadership of Dr. Dayo Israel as the newly appointed chairman of the Board of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.

    In a tweet on his X handle, Sanwo-Olu described the appointment as a “transformative journey” for the health institution.

    “I am confident that under his leadership, the institution will rise to new heights and serve as a beacon of hope and health for the people of Abeokuta and beyond,”

    Israel, who also serves as the national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presented his official letter of appointment to Governor Sanwo-Olu during a meeting at the Lagos House, Alausa. Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat was also in attendance.

    Sanwo-Olu mourns victims of Enugu tanker explosion

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mourned the victims of the petrol tanker explosion that tragically claimed multiple lives last Saturday along the Ugwu Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. 

    In a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor conveyed his heartfelt condolences to his Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, and the residents of Enugu State.

    “The news of the devastating petrol tanker explosion at the Ugwu Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, which claimed some lives, is deeply worrisome and calls for concern,” Sanwo-Olu said. 

    He also sympathised with the families and friends of the victims, offering prayers for strength and healing. 

    “May God grant the injured swift recovery and provide the bereaved families the strength to endure this irreparable loss. We also pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased.”

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to improve quality education, announcing plans to establish additional Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) centres across the state.

    Sanwo-Olu made the promise during a visit by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to the Lagos House in Ikeja.

    He announced plans to allocate sizable plots of land in Ojo, FESTAC, Ikorodu and Mile 12 for the construction of new Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, aimed at supporting JAMB’s mission and easing access for candidates.

    “Education is one of the strongest tools you can give to a human being,” the governor said, emphasising the role of education in fostering economic growth. Reiterating his administration’s support for education, the governor highlighted initiatives such as the Teacher’s Merit Award, which rewards outstanding educators with training, cash incentives, and vehicles as part of efforts to sustain the teaching profession.

    “We will continue to encourage people to remain in the teaching sector. That is the only way we can keep the profession alive,” he added.

    Sanwo-Olu also disclosed that Lagos State had partnered with a public school in Singapore to enhance staff development, adding that the state boasts of one of the best public service staff development schools in the country. The governor commended Prof. Oloyede for the transformative strides he has achieved at JAMB.

    He praised the registrar’s dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence as key factors driving the significant improvements witnessed at the institution in recent years.

    “I commend him for the remarkable transformation he has brought to JAMB. His dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence have not gone unnoticed,” Sanwo-Olu said.

    Reaffirming Lagos State’s commitment to fostering collaboration with JAMB, the governor emphasised the importance of partnerships in advancing educational opportunities for the youth.

    He also expressed optimism about the future of education in Lagos and across Nigeria, citing the potential of such collaborations to drive transformative impacts.

    “Together, I believe we can achieve even more significant milestones to benefit our state and the entire country by enhancing the educational landscape and creating opportunities for our youths.”

    In his response, Oloyede expressed gratitude for the Lagos State Government’s support, particularly the planned establishment of more CBT centres.

    He highlighted the disparity in Lagos State, which accounts for 15 per cent of candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) but has less than 10 percent of the country’s CBT centres.

    To address this imbalance, Oloyede appealed for further support and collaboration, including assistance in relocating JAMB’s office from Ikoyi to a more central location to ease access for mainland-based candidates, who make up 90 per cent of the state’s examinees.

    “We extend our hands of partnership in sensitisation programmes. Priming our students for examinations is necessary, and this cannot be done without the state’s support,” Oloyede said.

    Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday hosted two diplomats during courtesy visits, to enhance international relations.

    In a tweet on his X account, Governor Sanwo-Olu first welcomed the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Nigeria, Amb. Christopher Bazivamo, at the Lagos House, Marina.

    The governor said the discussions focused on key areas such as trade, investment and cultural exchange.

    He said: ‘’These sectors are crucial for strengthening ties between both countries.

    “During our meeting, we discussed areas of collaboration, including trade, investment and cultural exchange, which are essential for fostering a mutually-beneficial relationship.”

    Sanwo-Olu said Bazivamo’s visit symbolised the continued growth of diplomatic relations between Lagos and Rwanda.

    Shortly after, the governor also received the new Deputy High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, Carios Roja-Arbulu.

    He emphasised the importance of Canada’s diplomatic presence in Nigeria and expressed a strong commitment to deepening ties between Lagos and Canada.
