    95m Nigerians lack electricity, says Schneider Electric

    There are over 700 million people across the world without access to energy, 600 million in Africa and 95 million in Nigeria, global energy provider, Schneider Electric, has said.

    It added that access to clean and sustainable energy is crucial to economic growth and development.

    Speaking in Lagos yesterday during Energy Access Investment Forum (EAIF) conference and the launch of micro-grid solution for off-grid communities called Villaya Flex, Commercial Director MEAS, Access to Energy at Schneider Electric, Thomas Bonicel, said the company remained committed to providing access to clean energy to 50 million people globally by 2025, and 100 million by 2030 to unlock access to the future for all.

    He said Schneider Electric has a wide range of Access to Energy (A2E) solutions suitable for electrifying small homes and micro-enterprises, fundamental public services, up to villages and communities.

    He said the company has decided to deploy it’s A2E solutions in Nigeria, adding that company’s major key performance indicator (KPI) is the impact measured by the quantity of connected people and with Villaya Flex, a latest Schneider Electric innovation, the company is ready to support independent electricity access and renewable energy adoption in remote villages and off-grid communities.

    Speaking on the A2E program, Bonicel, said its mission is to empower communities through clean and reliable energy access.

    “Schneider Electric’s A2E program provides comprehensive approaches to support the universal access to sustainable, safe, and clean energy for developing countries including Africa, which includes training and entrepreneurship programs, social and inclusive business, and investment funds. In achieving sustainability, by 2030, we want to be net zero ready on all our operations, end-to-end carbon neutral value chain by 2040, and net zero C02 value chain by 2050,” he said on the forum with a focus on universal access to sustainable energy solutions.

  • Schneider Electric unveils EcoStruxure for datacentre

    Schneider Electric has reaffirmed its position as one of the most innovative global specialists in energy management and automation with the introduction of EcoStruxure platform.

    The new system which is Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled, and an open interoperable solution, was designed to improve business efficiency, reliability, safety and connectivity.

    “With critical factors such as frequent power outages, rising energy prices, climate changes and conflicts for resource access and controls, there is need for a holistic and robust energy infrastructure that ensures safe, efficient and green energy consumption from grid to rack.     The new platform collects and analyses critical data from sensors to cloud, with key features for implementing smart operations across enterprises such as monitoring environmental parameters and asset utilization, providing predictive analysis, smart alarming and the possibility to make control decisions anytime, anywhere and from any smart device.

    The event designed to reward partners with outstanding sales performance and to build business relationships with new and existing partners,  is hinged on five critical factors – channel profiling, alignment with business opportunities, empowerment, enablement and profit.

    This year, Kerryman Computers, Port Harcourt was recognised for its outstanding sales performance in 2015. Its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Obiukwu, said he was very happy with the award.

    Schneider Electric in partnership with Green Village Electricity (GVE) Projects Limited, Arnergy Solar Limited and Bank of Industry (BoI)  have commissioned pilot low-cost, off-grid solar energy solutions in two states in addition to four states across the country.

    The project, according to the company, is designed to provide 24kw of PV solar based off-grid electricity system to rural communities in six different states of Nigeria (Gombe, Kaduna, Anambra, Delta, Osun and Niger). The system will supply electricity to around 200 clients (residential and commercial) in each of the communities through a 2km 230VAC, 50Hz mini-grid electricity distribution network. With an average household size of seven, the estimated direct impact of the whole project is about 7,000 people, while an additional 500 people will be impacted indirectly through the cottage businesses and street lighting components also attached to the project.

    Schneider Electric in partnership with GVE Projects Limited commissioned the mini-grid solar project in Bisanti, Niger State and will be partnering with Anergy Solar Limited  for the commissioning of the project in Osun State. Schneider Electric’s Conext (Xantrex) Solar Hybrid solutions were used in these two states.

    Following a few years of capacity building, the project has now entered into the implementation phase with a focus on the deployment of low-cost, off-grid solar energy solutions for rural communities either as a stand-alone or micro-grid system. The project explores partnerships that will promote the implementation of renewable energy solutions and provide linkages for enterprise development, especially for the unserved and the underserved rural communities in the country. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Country President, Schneider Electric, Anglophone West Africa, Walid Sheta said: “We believe access to energy is a basic human right. We want homes in Nigeria to have access to reliable, safe, efficient, and sustainable energy.

    At Schneider Electric, we are committed to innovative solutions that address this energy paradox, balancing our planet’s carbon footprint and supporting the undisputable right of everyone to quality energy.”

    The Managing Director, GVE Projects Limited, Ifeanyi B. Orajaka, said: “The project will create about 20 direct and 30 indirect jobs during the course of implementation, while creating an estimated N5million in wealth in each of the beneficiary community through construction, survey, labour and other related implementation expenditures. The project will offset an estimated 1000 metric tons of CO2 annually in the communities thereby preserving the natural environment while enhancing the standard of living of the inhabitants.”

  • APC by Schneider Electric unveils reward programme in IT

    Global specialist in energy management and automation, Schneider Electric, has unveiled an invigorated APC by Schneider Electric Global Channel Partner Programme with some new enhancements to meet the rapidly evolving needs of partners in the changing information technology (IT) landscape.

    Schneider Electric Channel Manager, IT Business English West Africa, Oluwaseun Oloyede, who spoke in Abuja, said it is targeted at its distributors and resellers. He said to improve IT and energy efficiency across Nigeria, the company plans to open APC by Schneider Electric service centres in Abuja to provide easier access to its products and solutions for its customers in the northern region of the country.

    Oluwaseun explained that in addition to launching the new programme, Schneider Electric has also invested in creating a dedicated support team for its partners. “We are heavily focused on the channel right now, which will help us grow in the market,” he said. According to him, this renewed commitment was shaped by the direct feedback from partners. And it focuses on enhanced profitability, support, enablement and overall partner experience. “We have spent a good period of time listening to our channel partners and gaining feedback on what is important to them. Ultimately, this is a channel partner feedback delivered partner program”, he reiterated.

    The programme is a partner sales incentive package in which partners earn points by claiming their APC invoiced sales. The programme promises, “The more you sell, the more points you earn!” It also boasts of having over a million of rewards to choose from, thus the promise to Dream, Earn, Redeem, Enjoy. A reseller must however be a Registered Partner in the APC Channel Partner Program in order to gain access to the programme.

    APC by Schneider Electric Rewards Program is calling on the public to take advantage of this reward program and become a partner. It is a channel incentive program that rewards participants and partner for selling APC by Schneider Electric products and solutions.

     

     

  • National Assembly praises Schneider’s power initiatives

    The National Assembly has praised Schneider Electric for its efforts towards developing sustainable manpower for the power sector.

    The commendation came during the legislators’ tour of Schneider Electric’s Isaac Boro Energy Training College, at Grenoble, France. The visit was organised by the National Assembly to enable members to assess students being trained at the centre.

    On the trip were Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator James Manager and his House of Representatives counterpart, Warman Ogoriba.

    Others include  Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty programme, Kingsley Kuku and  President/Chief Executive Officer of Schneider Electric English West Africa, Marcel Hochet.

    Manager and Ogoriba praised the firm for the quality of training received by the students, describing it as a huge contribution to fast-tracki the development of the sector.

    Manager said: “We are very happy and extremely confident with what we have seen here today. Schneider Electric has taken three unique firsts in the history of the programme. They are the only company to name a training center after a Niger Delta icon. They have committed to employ 15 of the students immediately and have also committed to assist in placing the rest with their strong network of partners.”

    In his welcome address, Hochet said: “Schneider Electric is committed to providing a sustainable developmental platform as evidenced in various initiatives with the Federal Government, National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and LECAN. We are happy to receive honourable members of the National Assembly to our training center and to showcase our innovative solutions which are visible in our operations.”

  • Schneider Electric inaugurates rewards programme

    Schneider Electric has launched the Schneider Electric Green Currents loyalty programme for electricians as part of its initiative to develop the electrical retail business in Nigeria.

    At a special induction to welcome the first 250 members of the club in Lagos, Country President, Schneider Electric, Marcel Hochet, said: “The essence of the programme is to build a critical manpower base for the electrical retail sector by connecting and growing the electricians club members to a network of accredited distributors and resellers ensuring availability but more importantly safety and reliability of new or renovated electrical installations.”

    Hochet noted that electrical installations are a strategic part of any building as the safety of lives and property depend on it.

    Vice President, Retail Business, Schneider Electric, Tonye Briggs, said the programme was designed to reward loyal electricians and electrical contractors and encourage them to patronise only an accredited network of resellers.

    He said: “Schneider Electric is a major player in the power sector today, partnering with the government, especially in ensuring stable and reliable distribution of power at the grid level. Today, we have added another focus to our business, electrical retail. This is to ensure that the final consumer in his home or office receives the full benefit of the power privatisation which essentially is safe, clean and available power.”

    Briggs noted that the club offers four levels of membership with discounts, training and rewards based on purchases.

    “One of our goals with this loyalty programme is to structure our market so that everyone in the value chain benefits,” he said.

    He added that the company plans to extend the programme to enrol about 6000 electricians across the country and create a network of no fewer than 300 resellers.

    The Public Relations Officer of the Licensed Electrical Contractors of Nigeria (LECAN), Waheed Bada commended Schneider Electric for the initiative, reiterating the association’s commitment to support firms investing in developing the electrical and business skills of the sector.

    He noted that training as one of the rewards of the club would help to improve the expertise of the sector and prevent accidents.
