The Nation’s Correspondent wins global media award
A Senior Correspondent of The Nation, Adedeji Ademigbuji and Birame Faye, reporter at Le Quotidien newspaper, Senegal have been declared joint winners of the maiden edition of media awards on Electrical Counterfeiting in Africa.According to a statement from the African Press Organisation (APO) Thursday Ademigbuji, won with the story “Checking the menace of fake electrical products” while Faye’s winning entry in French was titled “Electricité – Usage des produits contrefaits : De l’insécurité dans notre confort domestique.”The award is sponsored by Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management to eliminate counterfeiting of electrical products in Africa.“Schneider Electric is extremely proud to award the very first Media Awards on Electrical Counterfeiting in Africa. We were very impressed by both the quantity and quality of entries, judging was an incredibly difficult process but we were unanimous in our decision that Adedeji Ademigbuji and Birame Faye were worthy winners. Firm begins innovation contest
Schneider Electric has launched a new edition of its Go Green in the City Challenge.
The competition, which has run for three years, is aimed at supporting energy management for more sustainable cities through innovation. It is open to students in tertiary institutions.
With Go Green in the City, Schneider Electric said it is bringing together and sharing its extensive knowledge on sustainable energy with students, who are future engineers and managers of energy. Using innovative case studies, the group is showing the students that the world is at a critical stage where all must look for effective and innovative ways of reducing energy consumption, for both economic and environmental reasons.
Entry for the fourth edition opened on November 15, 2013 and will end in February 15. Those eligible are business and engineering bachelor degree students from second year and above, master students as well as MBA students from all over the world. Each contestant must belong to a two member team; one of the members must be female.
Mrs. Anne Ezeh, Communication Manager, Schneider Electric Nigeria, said: “This competition embodies Schneider Electric’s desire to raise the younger generation’s awareness of the challenges facing the energy sector. Schneider Electric also wants to encourage interaction between the students and its employees. To achieve this, each of the chosen teams is assigned a Schneider Electric employee as their mentor, who works with them during the various selection stages. By doing this, the company wants to prepare student who are passionate about energy issues for their forthcoming working lives and make them more employable.
“By insisting on selecting teams with at least one woman, the Go Green in the City competition is keen to incorporate a woman’s perspective and approach in the Group’s environmentally-friendly initiatives.”

Nigeria, France trade hits 5.7b euro yearly
• Schneider Electric, Mikano sign MoU
THE volume of trade between Nigeria and France has hit 5.7 billion euro (that is, about N1.236 trillion), the France Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, has said.
He spoke to reporters in Lagos yesterday during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Schneider Electric and Mikano International Limited on the distribution of Schneider’s electrical products and solutions.
The deal covers the sale and distribution of Schneider Electric’s low voltage products and equipment in electrical distribution to enhance the accessibility of these products to Nigerians and support local firms.
The French envoy said Franch imports from Nigeria is 4 billion euro while exports from France to Nigeria is between 1.2 billion euro and 1.7 billion euro yearly.
France imports from Nigeria include crude oil and other raw materials.
Country President, Schneider Electric, Marcel Hochet described the agreement as an opportunity for both companies to collaborate and leverage their strength to improve local access to Schneider Electric’s products.
He said the agreement also demonstrates Schneider Electric’s commitment to support indigenous.

Schneider Electric promotes access to energy
Schneider Electric, global specialist in energy management, has donated a 300KVA distribution transformer to the Institute for Industrial Technology (IIT) in Lagos.
Schneider Electric made the donation to the institute under its corporate social responsibility initiative.
Prior to this donation, the institute and its environs were not connected to the national grid, thereby resulting in arbitrarily high costs of running the institute on generators.
In 2008, Schneider Electric embarked on an access to energy programme, which included the provision of sustainable renewable energy solutions to people at the base of the pyramid and strong investments in electrical technical training.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Country President, Mr Marcel Hochet, said: “We are not only here to do business but to also contribute to the development of the people and society. We are, especially, concerned about technical education and are committed to increasingthe levels that exist today in the country. Standard technical training isessential to real economic development and we will continue to invest intraining and maintain our partnership with IIT.”IIT, is a world class, non-profit, single sex, technical – vocational school, known for its high technical and moral standards.
“IIT offerstop-quality hands-on practical skills training to Nigerian youths andadults mainly from the lower income stratum of society.
