    Why I ignore trolls who criticise my music – Shallipopi

    Popular singer Shallipopi whose real name is Crown Uzama has spoken on how he ignores trolls who criticise his music. 

    Shallipopi rose to prominence last year after his song, ‘Elon Musk,’ became a viral hit.

    In a recent interview with Turntable hosted by rapper Odumodublvck, Shallipopi was asked how he spent the earnings from his first hit song and he said he used it to order oscroh.

    Odumodublvck asked: “When Elon Musk blow, wetin be the first thing wey you buy?”

    Shallipopi replied, “I chop ham na, normal. I used ham order oscroh.”

    The ‘Elon Musk’ crooner also explained why he doesn’t reply to trolls criticising his music on social media.

    “When my music was being trolled online, I ignored because you don’t have to listen to the naysayers. Just keep doing your thing. Who like you like you, who no like you, no like you. Everybody can’t like you,” he said.

    Singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has claimed the title of a great philosopher, likening himself to the renowned English playwright, Shakespeare.

    Shallipopi made this assertion on his X app, highlighting his songwriting skills.

    He emphasized that he goes beyond being merely the Pluto president, saying she now identifies himself as a wise tortoise.

    Shallipopi boasted about the complexity of his pen game, comparing it to Shakespeare’s, stating that only a select few can decode the lines he drops.

    He said: “From now on call me not only the president of Pluto but the wise tortoise. If you pay close attention to everything I have said you would easily know I’m the greatest philosopher of our time, dropping a sentence that has a thousand meanings that only few can decode.”

    The Chief Executive Officer of Adozi Empire, Onyeka Adozi, has said the company partnered with the Edo State government to host the homecoming concert of Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, because the artist has defied the odds to record success in the competitive music scene.

    The event was organised by Adozi Empire Limited and Banksx Entertainment, in conjunction with EdoFEST and the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs.

    Held at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, the concert was attended by Governor Godwin Obaseki; his wife Betsy; Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs, Uyi Malaka Oduwa; Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, among others.

    According to Adozi, the concert was held to connect Shallipopi with fans in his home city after a successful year where he became one of Nigeria’s most sought-after artists.

    He said: “It was exciting to work with Shallipopi on this project, and we are indeed impressed by the turnout of fans in Benin. The energy was massive and we are proud to be associated with him and the state government on this successful project. We promise to continue to work on creating more of these immersive experiences for fans going forward.”

    Adozi said  the artist has defied the odds to record success in  the nation’s competitive music scene.

    The event was organised by Adozi Empire Limited and Banksx Entertainment in conjunction with EdoFEST and the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs.

    The sold-out concert  at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Airport Road, and was attended by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; his wife, Betsy; Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Uyi Malaka Oduwa; Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare and the CEO of Adozillion Homes, Dr Simon Adozi.

     Adozi said the concert was held to connect Shallipopi with fans in his home city after a successful year in which he emerged as one of Nigeria’s most sought-after artists.

    He said: “It was a thrilling experience to have worked on this project because Shallipopi is the new face of Edo pop culture and we are proud of his success. It was only proper to have him in front of the home crowd.”

    Thrilling the crowded and frenzied hall with songs off his latest EPs, Planet Pluto and Presido La Pluto, Shallipopi paraded an array of other artists such as Victor AD, Erigga, Berri Tiga, among others.

    Addressing the crowd, Shallipopi said: “I am home. This is my city. I thank you for your support. I thank you for your support. The support and love have been overwhelming and I am grateful for coming out to welcome and support me today.”

    He expressed appreciation to his mother for taking him to Lagos, paving the way for him to return to Benin as ‘Shallipopi’, a global star who has graced the O2 Arena and now commanding global following.

    Rapper Shallipopi has said he is not a perfect musician neither does he have a genre of music.  

    He said he is neither a “perfect” singer nor a songwriter but has vibes and ‘street lingual’.

    The ‘Obapluto’ crooner further stated that his imperfection geared him towards signing artists who are better than him to his newly-launched record label, Plutomania Records.

    Speaking in the latest episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Shallipopi said: “I never wanted to sign anybody at first but the thing is that I know people that are better than me at singing.

    “I can not sign somebody that I’m better than. I’m not that good at singing but I know how to maintain my sound. I’m not the perfect musician that you will say this guy has a game or crazy voice.     He added: “I’m a talker, I’m not a rapper. Talking is my genre of music.”

    He said: “Benin as a place, none of us get hope to blow. We thought musical stardom was only attainable for Lagos and Abuja residents. We didn’t have the hope that we too could achieve the spotlight. It was after Rema came, after D’Prince signed him to Jonzing World, that was when he realised that it is also possible for Benin artists to hit stardom. There’s hope. If Rema crosses over, we go fit cross over.

    “When Rema went to Lagos, we were watching him. We are his day-one fans. He knows. We’ve been following since when he was posting freestyle videos on social to his trap EP to his new height. He was the one who gave us hope that we too can make it.”

    Rising singer, Shallipopi has revealed how he made 50k from a show in Port Harcourt after he spent four days squatting with someone.

    He said his first-ever show came at a time when he was still struggling to get accommodation after relocating to Lagos.

    In a conversation with the Zero Conditions podcast, the music sensation delved into his experiences within the music industry.

    Shedding light on the challenges he faced in the early stages of his career and the triumphs, Shallipopi revealed that most people he depended on in Lagos turned him down.

    He said: “When I got to Lagos, I was looking for who to stay with; I wasn’t lost but couldn’t find anyone. Eventually, I found somebody and told them I would only stay for four days; I dey try corner them. After four days, I got a show in Port Harcourt for N50K. I never met any distribution company, I was doing everything with my phone.”
