  • Why some Nigerians don’t like me – Soludo’s son

Ozonna, son of Anambra Governor Charles Soludo, has spoken out about the criticism he faces on social media particularly from some Nigerians.

Speaking with content creator Goodybagg, Ozonna said the negative attention is a natural consequence of being visible and confident.

He said: “I think it just kind of comes with it. Anybody that is visible and confident, you are going to get hate. I am not going to apologise to them for not liking me, I am going to keep being myself”.

Ozonna emphasised that he will not change himself to please others, referencing his strong sense of self.

“I do not do this to be liked by everyone because I have a very strong sense of myself  and I am not willing to apologise for that. So I am not going to stop doing anything just because someone doesn’t like me,” he said.

The Chairman of the group, Chief Damian Ejiamatu, gave the assurance during a meeting in Nise, Awka South Local Government Area, where residents from the two wards in the community unanimously pledged their support for Soludo’s re-election bid.

Ejiamatu, visibly impressed by the large turnout, donated N2 million to mobilize grassroots support and promised an additional N2 million to further strengthen campaign activities for the governor

He also assured members of other political parties operating under the Renewed Hope coalition that they would be fully integrated into the group’s structure and activities.

According to Ejiamatu, the decision by some political groups to align with Soludo was influenced by his commendable performance in governance, adding that he expected all supporters to demonstrate loyalty by dismantling the structures of their former parties.

“Go and collapse all the structures belonging to other political parties in Nise within the next one week. We are not ready to surrender a single vote to the candidates of other parties on November 8,” he declared.

Soludo: Monday sit-at-home gone in Anambra

Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo yesterday stated that the state has overcome the Monday sit-at-home ordeal.

Speaking on a national television programme, the governor said those still observing it do so out of personal choice rather than fear.

Soludo also said he would not like to be drawn into today’s planned protest in Abuja for the release of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The governor said he was preoccupied by next month’s governorship election in which he is seeking re-election.

“You’re not going to drag me or get me distracted from that focus,” he said in response to a question by the anchor of the programme.

Commenting on the Monday sit-at-home, Soludo said: “I’ve made it very clear. If you are protesting or agitating for anything and you are holding yourself down by staying at home, you are killing your own people under the pretext of the Monday sit-at-home.”

The governor recalled that IPOB itself had publicly disowned the sit-at-home order, attributing its enforcement to criminal elements.

“Even Nnamdi Kanu himself and IPOB, at least on record through press releases, said they did not support the Monday sit-at-home. It was some criminal elements doing that. And we thank them for their work. That’s true. The Monday sit-at-home is likely over here. Anybody sitting at home now is doing so out of his own preference, not because of insecurity,” Soludo added.

Acknowledging the right of Nigerians to peaceful protest, the governor reiterated that his priority is ensuring peace and economic progress of Anambra State.

“As for those who are agitating or going to have demonstrations or whatever, they have a right to do so. In a democracy, everybody has freedom of expression. You have your freedom of expression in the way you do so,” he said.

The governor recalled that he had called for dialogue on Kanu’s matter after assuming office, but maintained that his current focus is on how to fulfill his promises to his people.

“I discussed the issue of release of Nnamdi Kanu several months upon assumption of office and even on the day the Ohanaeze Ndigbo had their Imeobi meeting, I said we needed to have a conversation,” he said.

The people of Anaocha Local Government Area in Anambra State have conferred the traditional title of ‘Ekwueme’ on Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Additionally, they donated N50 million in support of his re-election campaign.

Anaocha is home to former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, as well as Senator Uche Ekwunife, the running mate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate.

The endorsement and conferment of title took place in Neni, the headquarters of Anaocha Local Government Area, during a rally organised by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Ten communities within Anaocha publicly declared their support for Soludo’s second-term ambition, in what was described as a d emonstration of political solidarity. The event was attended by thousands of residents, community leaders, and political stakeholders, reaffirming the governor’s broad grassroots appeal.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Anaocha, Soludo commended their strong work ethic and commitment to Igbo values.

“Thanks to Anaocha, we Igbos are known for our hard work and enterprise,” the governor said. “Those who seek to pervert our values do not represent us. The majority of our people are doing great things.”

He reiterated his administration’s policy of protecting low-income earners, noting that petty traders and individuals with capital below N100,000 are exempt from all forms of levies or taxes.

“We are a party committed to uplifting the poor and ensuring that no one is left behind. This principle is reflected in all our policies,” Soludo added.

Several community leaders, particularly members of APGA, also spoke at the event, commending the governor for his focus on development, good governance, and transparency across Anambra communities.

  • Soludo not defecting to APC, says APGA spokesman

Soludo not defecting to APC, says APGA spokesman

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed growing speculation that Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the recent wave of political crossovers among southern governors.

This reassurance came shortly after the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Tuesday — a move that sparked renewed chatter about similar realignments in the Southeast.

Speaking to reporters in Awka yesterday, the APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, described such fears as “baseless, inordinate, and completely unfounded”.

He said Governor Soludo remains deeply loyal to the APGA and has no intention of abandoning the platform that brought him to power.

“Governor Soludo is not only committed to APGA; he embodies the spirit and ideology of our movement,” Opara said. “There is absolutely no reason for him to defect. Anambra people should rest assured — Soludo is going nowhere.”

Opara attributed the ongoing defections from the PDP in the Southeast to long-standing internal crises. He said that while the collapse of the PDP in the region was predictable, it does not in any way affect APGA’s political dominance in Anambra State.

“The unravelling of the PDP in the Southeast did not take us by surprise. The party has been plagued by internal conflicts from top to bottom. But that has nothing to do with APGA’s stability,” he explained.

“The APGA remains the only party that has consistently maintained its grip on Anambra State. We have produced three consecutive governors — from Peter Obi to Willie Obiano and now Chukwuma Soludo — and we are confident the trend will continue.”

Opara dismissed as “wishful thinking” claims that APGA’s influence in Anambra is waning, describing such narratives as propaganda pushed by a desperate opposition.

“What you are hearing is the usual chant from a struggling opposition looking for relevance,” he said.

“Their stock-in-trade is falsehood. They rely on rumours to stay visible, but the truth will always prevail. APGA is here to stay.”

He also clarified that APGA maintains a cordial relationship with the APC at the national level, emphasising that both parties share progressive ideologies and areas of mutual interest.

Read Also: Nigeria has no reason to be poor, says Tinubu

According to him, this cooperation does not translate to defection or merger. “Let it be clear, the APGA and the APC may be collaborating on certain progressive fronts, but that does not mean our members are defecting. There is no need for Governor Soludo to leave the APGA for any reason,” he stated.

Turning to the upcoming November 8 governorship election in Anambra, Opara dismissed the claims by the APC governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, that he would “take over” the state for the ruling party. He described Ukachukwu’s statement as “a mere fantasy unbacked by electoral reality”.

“Ukachukwu should wake up from his daydream,” Opara said sharply. “Even within his own party, there are unresolved tensions — a cold war between his supporters and those of his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, as well as disputes left over from their controversial primary election. He is merely participating, not truly contesting.”

Opara pointed to the outcome of recent by-elections as proof of APC’s weakness in Anambra, noting that Ukachukwu and his allies failed to deliver victories even in their home wards. “The mock elections were a clear signal,” he added. “They exposed the emptiness of Ukachukwu’s claims and showed that APGA’s base remains solid. Those results have already set the tone for the November 8 governorship poll.”

Reaffirming APGA’s confidence ahead of the elections, Opara said the party would continue to focus on governance, not distractions. “We will not be diverted by noise from a small fraction of the opposition. Our mission is clear — to sustain good governance in Anambra and expand APGA’s legacy of people-focused leadership,” he concluded.
