  • Dry cleaner ‘stabs’ hotel assistant to death

    An Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a 32-year-old laundry man, Ehikhamen Samson be remanded in prison custody for an alleged murder.

    Samson, a native of Edo State,  allegedly murdered one Samuel Monday, 29, with a kitchen Knife on 7B Abimbola Awoniyi Close, Off Kasumu Ekemode, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The defendant, a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Adekunle Ajasin Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, worked with the late Monday at an undisclosed hotel in Victoria Island.

    It was said that the victim was spending his leisure time to assist the defendant during working hours at the hotel.

    The defendant was said to have reported Monday to the hotel management for calling him abusive names like “Ogboju”.

    On July 18 around 9pm, an argument ensued between them, which led to a free-for-all outside the hotel. During the brawl, the defendant, who was said to have hidden a kitchen knife in his pocket, stabbed Monday on his left chest.

    Samuel died on the spot.

    The defendant plea was not taken

    Magistrate Tosin Fowowe-Erusiafe ordered the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from DPP.

    She adjourned till September 5.

  • Man ‘stabs’ neighbour with bottle

    A 33-year-old unemployed man, John Obasi, alleged to have stabbed a neighbour with a broken bottle, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused is also facing charges of assaulting his father and attempting to commit arson.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Donjor Perezi told the court that the offence were committed on June 27 at the aforementioned address.

    Perezi said that a fight ensued between the accused and his neighbour, Mrs Elizabeth Solomon, over food.

    “The accused beat-up the woman, stabbed her with a broken bottle on her right leg and was about to set the building ablaze but for the intervention of his father, Mr Vitus Obasi.

    “The accused pushed his father down, but other neighbours were able to subdue him and called the police,” he said.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief magistrate O.O. Layinka granted the accused N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

    She adjourned the case to August 11.

  • Lover boy stabs girlfriend to death in Kano

    A yet to be identified man, believed to be the lover of a pub girl on Monday evening stabbed his lover girl to death.

    The incident happened in the girl’s room at Sugarcane hotel, located on Gold Coast road, Sabon Gari area of the Kano metropolis between 5:30 and 6 pm.

    According to sources, two men arrived the hotel premises at about 5:30 pm on a motorbike.

    As soon as they disembarked, one of the men, according to our source walked straight into the pub-girl’s room, said to have just returned to the country from Dubai, while his accomplice waited for him beside the motorbike within the premises of the hotel.

    Unknown to the men, workers within the vicinity were monitoring the suspicious movement of the motorbike man.

    Twenty minutes after, one of the motorbike men entered the pub girl’s room and failed to come out as expected, a development that aroused the suspicion of the workers within the premises.

    One of the suspicious workers’, it was learnt burst into the room, following the persistent outcry of the pub girl to ascertain why the pub girl was wailing.

    The source disclosed that as soon as one of the curious workers gained entrance into the room, he discovered that the pub girl was in a pool of her blood, having been stabbed by the motorbike man, who was also found in the room, beside the stabbed pub girl.

    On a closer look, our source said the worker discovered that the pub girl, who was struggling and writhing in pains, was stabbed on the stomach, forcing her intestines to gush out.

    Sensing danger, the assailant, according to our source attempted to escape but was promptly caught and brutalized, while his accomplice, whom he rode to the premises with fled the scene but the motorbike he left behind was however set ablaze.

    Moments after the gruesome murder, some police officers from the Nomansland Police station, according to our source, who arrived the scene saved the suspect from being lynched by the angry mob at  the hotel premises.

    The law enforcement agents, it was gathered swung into action promptly, dispersed the crowd, arrested the suspect and conveyed the remains of the pub girl to the Police station for further interrogation.

    As at the time of filing this report, the Hotel premises has not only been sealed up but deserted.

    Contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Musa Magaji Majiya, said he is yet to receive such report, promising that as soon the report is made available to him, he would not hesitate to get in touch with this reporter.

     

  • Man stabs mother to death over N20,000

    A young man in Ede, the headquarters of Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State, has allegedly stabbed his mother to death.

    The suspect, named Christian, who graduated last year from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, reportedly had an argument with his mother for not given him the N20,000 he demanded from her.

    It was learnt that  he allegedly dragged his mother, a widow, into one of the rooms in their apartment, which was located at Oba ‘Laoye area of the town before  stabbing her.

    Weeping profusely, the suspect’s younger sister, Folake,  told reporters that she witnessed the incident.

    Folake said their mother’s plea that she could not provide N20,000  fell on Christian’s deaf ears.

    According to her, she joined her mother, who was known as Iya Christian, to appeal to his brother,  whom she said “was desperate to collect the money by all means”.

    She said:  “Our mother told him to exercise patience with her because she was broke. But Christian was only adamant that he must collect the money on the spot.

    “It was this same mother that he killed that single-handedly sponsored his education from primary school till he graduated from the university last year. Since we lost our father, this woman had been our pillar of support.

    “He was very rough with our mother. He dragged her on the floor into the room, locked the door despite my pleading and stabbed her to death.

    “Before help could reach our mother, who was crying and begging him all along, he had killed her.

    “When we saw blood flowing from underneath the door, sympathisers forced the door open. But it was late to save her life.

    “Beside our mother’s lifeless body was the beast looking blank.  There were deep cuts on our mother’s head and neck.”

    The deceased was buried last Friday and the suspect is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department on Ring Road, Osogbo.

    The acting police spokesman, Mr. Egbedele Ajibade, said the suspect would be charged to court after completion of investigation.

  • Man ‘stabs’ neighbour to death

    A 24-year-old man, Kazeem Fagbenro, yesterday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing Fatai Salako to death.

     The accused is facing trial on a count charge of murder.

     The plea of the accused was not taken.

    Prosecuting Corporal Olusegun Kokoye said the offence was committed on March 11 around 12pm at Itowolo village, Ajegunle in Ikorodu.

     He alleged that the accused and the deceased had a misunderstanding and that Fagbenro had vowed to deal with the deceased.

     Kokoye said the offence contravened Sections 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

     Magistrate O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe ordered that the accused should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for 30 days, pending an advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

  • Casual worker ‘stabs’ colleague to death

    The police have arrested a casual worker, Raphael Nwoye, for allegedly stabbing his colleague, Ifeanyi Onuoha, to death over a woman.

    The woman, Ngozi Okpara, yesterday relived how Nwoye allegedly stabbed the late Onuoha on the head and back.

    It was gathered that immediately Nwoye realised that Onuoha was dead, he rushed to his home on 3, Omolabake Adeoti Street in Ajao Estate, Isolo Local Council Development Area of Lagos, packed his belongings and attempted to flee.

    Three men were said to have chased and caught him after a fight.

    Nwoye, who was arrested by operatives of Isolo Police Station, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) at Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

    Nwoye was said to have accused Onuoha of beating Ngozi, his girlfriend.

    One of their friends invited them for settlement, but during the peace talk, tempers flared.

    Nwoye left the peace meeting and returned with a kitchen knife with which he allegedly stabbed Onuoha on the neck and back. Onuoha reportedly died on the spot.

    Yesterday, Okpara said she and Onuoha were inside his apartment when one Tony came to call him for the peace talk.

    Okpara said: “After a few hours, someone came and called me that my husband had been stabbed to death at Omolabake Street. I dashed to the scene. When I got there I met Ifeanyi in a pool of his blood. He was about to be evacuated by the policemen. My husband and Raphael both work at the same factory, Second Francis Warehouse.

    “But early this year, Raphael came to our house and threatened to kill Ifeanyi. He told me to warn Ifeanyi, that whenever he comes across him, he would make sure he terminates his life. I warned Ifeanyi from relating with the suspect.

    “I heard that Raphael’s master is boasting that he is going to settle the police and bring Raphael out of detention,” said Okpara.

    The command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the late Onuoha’s body has been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital morgue.

    She said investigations were ongoing.

  • Bricklayer ‘stabs’ engineer to death

    A father of two, Samuel Onatayo has been stabbed to death by cultists.

    Onatayo, an engineer, was killed around 10:30am on his way to Vulcaniser Bus Stop in Agbelekale Meiran, Lagos.

    He was allegedly killed by one Precious Emefor, a 21-year-old, bricklaying apprentice.

    According to Sergeant Mariam Dauda, Emefor’s elder brother, Evans (now at large) who was injured by cult boys called the suspect to join him in a reprisal attack.

    Onatayo was allegedly stabbed with a knife by Emefor.

    Emefor was arraigned yesterday before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged conspiracy and unlawful killing.

    Sergeant Dauda applied that the defendant be remanded in prison pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison and adjourned till December 19.

     

  • Wife stabs husband over N500 daily allowance

    A housewife in Enugu State, Joy Umeh, has stabbed her husband, Sunday Umeh, for allegedly failing to provide a daily housekeep allowance of N500.

    Mrs. Umeh was said to have demanded the amount  as her husband prepared to leave for work. But Sunday pleaded that he had no money.

     Joy then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the stomach.

    Sunday’s shout attracted neighbours who removed the knife and rushed him to the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre.

    Police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident.

    He said Joy was in police custody and helping with investigation.

    Sunday is receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre.

  • Man stabs friend to death, arraigned

    A 25 year old man,Akeem Alabede,has been charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for murder.

    Alabede  allegedly killed his friend, Azees Lawal, during a scuffle at Sunday Sonola Street , Mafoluku-Oshodi,  Lagos, on April 26, 2015.

    The accused  is said to have  engaged the deceased in a fight in the course of  an argument shortly after they returned from a party on the fateful day at about 10.30pm.

    Alabede  allegedly killed the victim  by stabbing him with a broken bottle on his neck.

    His plea was not taken .

    The charge sheet reads: “That you Akeem Alabede ‘m’ on the 26th day of April  2015, at about 10:30 pm at Sunday Sonola street , Mafoluku-Oshodi  Lagos , in the Lagos Magisterial District , unlawfully killed one Azeez Lawal ‘m’ by stabbing him with a broken bottle on his neck and thereby committed an  offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

    The police prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, asked the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    The presiding magistrate, E.O Ogunkanmi, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from DPP’s office.

    The case was adjourned to July 2.

  • Tragedy as tenant stabs landlord’s son to death …over minor quarrel

    Tragedy struck on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at No 25, Ewuga Street, Makun, Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State, when a tenant, Segun Oso allegedly killed his landlord’s son, Temitope Sogede during a scuffle.

    Segun, a tipper driver was said to have thrown a harmful substance on the floor in the house, which Temitope’s child, Semilore, swallowed.

    Semilore subsequently developed complications which landed him in a hospital.

    Segun, who had gone to church when the child swallowed the object soon returned  and was challenged  by Temitope, for bringing home the harmful substance.

    A   fight then broke out between them but were  separated by other occupants of the building.

    All was thought to be over when Segun unexpectedly grabbed a knife and stabbed  Tope as  he was returning to his apartment.

    Tope’s elder brother, Mr Olawale Sogede, said of  the incident: “It was Tope’s wife who told her husband about the incident on the phone and he quickly rushed home. A fight broke out when he (Tope) rebuked Segun for bringing the dangerous substance home. I was the one that separated them and we thought the feud was over.

    “Tope was going to his apartment not knowing that Segun was still upset with him. Tope suddenly screamed that he had been stabbed in the back by Segun. We rushed to the scene and found Segun holding a blood stained knife with which he used to kill my brother.

    “It was Segun’s wife who collected the knife from her husband  and tried to hid it from policemen. We could not stop Tope’s bleeding by applying first aid, hence, we took him to a private hospital in the community, where he died while receiving treatment.”

    It was learnt that Segun had lacerated his body with a sharp object and told policemen at the  Makun Police Station that he was stabbed during a fight with one of his neighbours.

    He was said to have been referred to a hospital for treatment.

    Unknown to Segun, the hospital he was referred was the same hospital where Tope was rushed for treatment.

    It was at the hospital that police detectives arrested him after his complicity in the matter was revealed during investigation.

    He is currently held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta.

    The spokesman for the State Police Command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.

    “It was a case involving two occupants of a building. One of them was the son of the owner of the building and he was allegedly killed in the course of the fight. The suspect (Segun) is in our custody while the case has been transferred to SCID for further investigation.”
