  • Man allegedly stabs girlfriend to death in hotel room

The Police have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death during a fight at Alapere, a Lagos suburb.

The incident occurred at a hotel on Tuesday evening. The suspect was handed over to the police by a hotel worker.

The victim’s family alleged that the suspect lured her to the hotel and attempted to chop off her breasts and fingers, apparently for ritual, adding that in the process the fight broke.

The hotel workers were said to have had a shout from the room, following which they forced the door open and met the deceased in a pool of her blood.

Efforts to save her failed as she reportedly died before reaching the hospital.

Her remains were deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary.

A bereaved relative, who asked not to be named, said: “What we heard was that on reaching the hotel, the suspect ordered for a drink. As our daughter was sipping hers, he brought out a pair of scissors and started cutting one of her breasts. She started screaming at that point. Not done, he cut one of her fingers and attempted to gag her so as to finish his satanic mission. Her scream alerted people who came to her rescue.

“We were told she gave this version when she was being rushed to the hospital. We were also told the boyfriend attempted to escape but was apprehended by the hotel staff before policemen from Alapere arrived. Her death has plunged everyone into sorrow and agony. All we want is for the police to interrogate him and find out why he killed our daughter.”

Police’s spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), confirmed the incident, saying: “Yes, we have such a case, but that is not how it happened. What happened was that a man stabbed his girlfriend with scissors in a hotel room during a fight and the lady was rushed to a hospital where she later died. The man is in our custody and investigation has begun.”

A statement by police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu said the duo were arguing over the sharing of the bill of the house where they live.

The statement said Eneh was reportedly infuriated by comments from the victim, leading him to stab Uzor with a knife.

The victim was rushed to ESUT Parklane Teaching Hospital, where he died.

  • Ex-councillor stabs girl, 18

A former councillor in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl who refused his love advances.

Miriam Abubakar, a pupil of FESTAC Girls Secondary School, was allegedly attacked by Babatunde on October 26 at Pearl Harbour Nite Club, Lagos at 41 Road FESTAC Town.

The Nation learnt that Babatunde invited Abubakar to his table but she turned him down.

Babatunde was reported to have stood up and dragged Abubakar to his seat.

Infuriated by her resistance, Babatunde allegedly picked up a beer bottle, broke it and stabbed the girl in the neck.

Abubakar was said to have fainted as she bled uncontrollably.

Babatunde was alleged to have boasted that he would kill her and nothing will happen.

It was reliably gathered that instead of rushing Abubakar to the hospital, the club owner attempted to conceal the incident.

While this was going on, another patron, who witnessed the incident, took her to the Naval Hospital, Ojo, where she was rejected because there was no police report.

The good Samaritan, at this point, called the police and the girl was taken to Ajeromi General Hospital.

As at Wednesday, she had been given three pints of blood. Sources said she may still be given more because she lost much blood.

Sources said the suspect fled the club before the police arrived.

Police sources said the suspect was lured to the command Headquarters in Ikeja where he was arrested and detained.

“We told him the girl is alive and well and that nobody was going to arrest him. We said we only wanted his statement on what happened and he came”, the source said.

Police Chief Umar Manko, promised that justice would be done.

He praised the efforts Commander, Mr Dan Okoro, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and his men for saving the girl’s life and for arresting the suspect.
