  • StarTimes launches local educational channel

    RWells Media has launched a new children channel, Jyb TV on StarTimes (channel 361) targeted at children and young adults aged between six and 24.

    The new channel has been developed to inspire learning, ignite passion and aid their development through local content programmes.

    The new channel joins six others for children, namely: StarTimes offers JimJam, Nickelodeon, Da Vinci Learning, NTA Knowledge, PoP and Child’s Smile.

    The channel would feature vox pop, health talks, school programmes, talk shows, drama and debates.

    StarTimes Marketing Director, Dare Kafar, said: “Jyb TV enables future leaders to learn, find their passion and pursue their dreams on a very local but enriching, exciting and wholesome platform that support parents in raising decent champions.”

    “The time is right to offer another local but world class channel to parents and children. We are aware of the issue around screen time, so needed to create a solution which allows children to watch shows that are fun, educational and that encourage imagination.”

    Mrs Jibe Ologeh, Managing Director, RWells Media, said some of the key shows on the channel, include Young Scholars, Our Future (gives one child (per episode) the opportunity to live out a day of their dream careers), Scholars Chat, Cultural Hub (an African cultural show that showcases the African culture) and School On TV (provides detailed academic lessons on major subjects, especially for candidates preparing for external examinations.

  • ST Yoruba on StarTimes

    An indigenous entertainment channel in Yoruba and African content called ST Yoruba has been launched on StarTimes.

    Aired on channel 160 on digital terrestrial and channel 412 on digital satellite platforms, it was designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba and as a 24-hour general entertainment channel follows the success of ST Dadin Kowa enjoyed by the Hausa viewers.

    Its Marketing Director, Dare Kafar, said: “StarTimes is very excited to announce the arrival of its new Yoruba movie channel. It has been in our plans to give more to our movie loving subscribers.     StarTimes gets Copa America broadcast right

    StarTimes has acquired exclusive broadcast right for the Copa America Special Centenario edition all over Africa.

    This edition, which commemorates the 100th existence of Copa America, is slated for June 3 through 26 in the United States of America.

    Thirty-two countries will compete in games across 10 cities. Aside enjoying superstars like Lionel Messi, Luiz Suarez, SergiAguero, Sanchez and others in action, StarTimes viewers stand the chance to predict and win fantastic prizes; cash, LED Digital Television with inbuilt decoders, Projector Television sets, telcom recharge cards and other prizes.  There will be programmes on radio, television, online, on StarTimes App and social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter through which Nigerians can participate and win.

  • StarTimes is best Pay TV operator at BoICT 2016

    StarTimes has been named the Best Pay TV Operator at the coveted Beacon of Information and Communication Technology (BoICT) awards.

    The Sino-Nigerian Pay TV firm was declared the winner at a gala, which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

    At the ceremony attended by the crème de la crème of technology policy makers, captains of industry, regulatory bodies and other key players, StarTimes was presented with the award and commended for its consumer friendly offerings.

  • StarTimes to sponsor three subscribers to US

    StarTimes Nigeria has kicked off its StarTimes NBA All Access Tour in the year.

    According to the Pay TV firm, the year programme is expected to produce three StarTimes subscribers for an all-expense-paid one-week trip to Los Angeles in California, United States to watch American basketball superstars in action.

    The Marketing Director, Mr. Oludare Kafar, said the tour was designed with the NBA TV to reward basketball-loving StarTimes subscribers.

    He said the winners will have an opportunity to meet their heroes, superstars  and fulfill their dreams of watching live basketball matches.

    “This basketball trivia game is our response to the demand of our subscribers for more exciting sporting initiatives and everyone can participate in the program; To be a winner, get a StarTimes decoder if you don’t have it already. Like StarTimes facebook page, post your pictures and link to uploaded personal Youtube video showing some basketball skills on StarTimes website and get your friends and families to like the video. Top 10 finalists will be selected and 3 winners will emerge based on superior skills and highest likes,” Kafar added.

    He said in 2014, StarTimes introduce the campaign  and produced Mr Boluwaji Bamidele and Chinedu Iroche, StarTimes subscribers as winners.

    The programme startedwith an online competition on February 25 and to end this month.

    StarTimes reduces subscription to mark Easter

    A head of the Easter celebration on March 25 through 28, popular digital TV platform, StarTimes Nigeria, has announced a slash in the price of its highest bouquet,  Unique (on digital terrestrial) and Super (on digital satellite platform) to enable more Nigerians enjoy digital TV entertainment with family and friends during the holidays.

    Between March 1 and April 30, Unique or Super bouquet, the highest Pay TV package on StarTimes with about 120 channels at the monthly subscription rate of N4,800, will be reduced by 25 per cent to N3,600. Existing and fresh subscribers can enjoy the reduced rate during the period.

    Meanwhile, the pay TV Company’s Extra Special offer will also run till April 30. The “Extra Special Offer” allows subscribers recharge on any bouquet before due date and get rewarded with extra viewing days free in multiples of the number of months paid. With this, subscribers will enjoy three days extra free viewing per month for every recharge before due date cumulatively.

    Marketing Director Mr. Oludare Kafar said StarTimes is committed to offering subscribers quality television entertainment with strong consideration for affordability and easy accessibility.

    Honouring the extraordinary talent of film score composers, the Big Weekend will explore the world of music in film to coincide with the 88th Academy Awards.

    With a host of exclusive soundtrack music-videos from major nomination categories, The Big Weekend will also give viewers insight into a series of enlightening composer promos and abundant film and Oscar facts.

    The Oscars Special will include some of C Music TV’s favourite artists and evaluate the nominee line-up and possible winners

  • StarTimes secures African Basketball League right

    StarTimes has secured right to air live broadcasts of the the African Basketball League (ABL) on the TRACE Sports Stars channel from March 4.

    It said with the right, basketball fans will be able to watch the ABL including the All-Star Games, Play offs and behind the scenes show live on TRACE channels and TRACE Sport Stars, the first global entertainment channel dedicated to review of lives of stars in the world of sport.

    Its Group Managing Director, Media Department and VP, Michael Dearham,  said: “We are very excited to bring African basketball onto the StarTimes platform and believe the various matches will provide our sport loving subscribers with some high quality entertainment.”

    Also, the CEO of ABL, Ugo Udezue, said: “This is a historic moment for the ABL and will contribute greatly to the growth of professional basketball within the African continent. We are excited to feed the appetite of basketball lovers all across the world.”

    It said the TRACE Sports Stars is available on the StarTimes DTT channel 260 (Classic bouquet) and DTH channel 254 (Smart bouquet).

    Digital service provider StarTimes Nigeria has launched a special end-of-year offer that will allow people recharge for content and get a decoder and extra viewing time free.

    The offer, which will start on November 21 and is valid while stock lasts, is available to digital terrestrial and digital satellite package.

    New customers can subscribe N3,990 for digital terrestrial and N4,800 for digital satellite.

    Existing subscribers can also do an instant recharge for two months and get two months free access to watch sports plus, worth N2,400.

    Marketing Director Mr. Oludare Kafar said the offer was designed to allow more people own a decoder conveniently, enjoy great entertainment with family and friends during the Yuletide.

    IN a move aimed at shoring up television viewership, NTA Startimes has named football legends Kanu Nwankwo, aka Papilo, and his Under 17 counterpart, Jonathan Akpoborie, as the face of the digital platform. The unveil was held at Protea Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.

    Welcoming guests to the unveil ceremony, Startimes’ Director of Business, Maxwell Loko, said that the platform is proud to announce the partnership with the football legends.

    “With this announcement begins a very long partnership. They will now officially become the face of Startimes in well over 12 African countries where we are present. Wherever you see Startimes, Kanu will be our ambassador. He will assist in growing the brand across Africa ahead of the digital switchover which is coming up June 2017. We are glad to have them with us,” he said.

    For the Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) who was represented by Mrs Temitayo Daramola, Kanu Nwankwo goes beyond football. “Everywhere that you see NTA, you see Startimes. You can’t ignore NTA Startimes. This is another feather added to the partnership and we are very proud to be associated with Kanu Nwankwo and Jonathan Akpoborie.
