  • Guard steals N200,000 iron rods

    A 28-year-old guard, Michael Pam, yesterday appeared at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court  for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N200,000.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Inspector Ben Ekundayo said Pam committed the offence on January10 at Seaside Estate, Papa bus stop, Badore, Ajah, Lagos.

    He alleged that the defendant conspired with one other at large to steal the iron rods from the site of Mrs. Bukola Kuoglereh.

    “A resident of the estate, who saw Pam and his accomplice while stealing the rods, informed the owner, which led to the arrest of the defendant,” the prosecutor said.

    Magistrate A. M. Olumide-Fusika granted the defendant N50, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    She said the sureties must be employed, adding that one must be a relation of the defendant, and the other, a civil servant.

    The case continues on March 14.

     

     

     

  • Teenager steals students’ phones, laptops

    A teenager, Malik Moruf, who allegedly stole phones, laptops and other property from four Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) students, yesterday appeared at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Moruf, 18, pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye alleged that the defendant committed the offences from January 28 to February 12, at Abule-Oja, Yaba.

    She said the defendant had been stealing from the students’ lodge for two weeks.

    Olaluwoye said the students – Mr. Raro-Edo Enakofa, Miss Esther Shofeso, Miss Esther Oyinoluwa and Miss Juliana Ajibola – reported the theft at Yaba Police Station.

    She said the defendant stole two iPhone 6 valued at N120,000 each, a bag worth N17,000, an HP laptop valued at N150,000 and a Samsung phone worth N35,000.

    The prosecutor said the defendant also stole a Sony laptop valued at N400,000, Airtel SIM cards worth  N3,000 and a Samsung tablet worth N91,000.

    She said the stolen items worth N936,000.

    “It was upon investigation that the police ambushed the defendant and caught him while trying to break into one of the apartments to steal,” Olaluwoye said.

    Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere granted the defendant N200, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    She said one of the sureties must be a relation of the defendant, adding that both must be employed with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case was adjourned till April 3.

  • Man steals N100,000 necklace

    A 39-year-old man, Bola Owueni, yesterday appeared at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, for alleged theft of a gold necklace worth N100,000.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Ade Adeosun alleged that Owueni stole the necklace from Mr. Joseph Ade on January 3 at Esepe village in Badagry.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    “The complainant caught him and handed him over to the police,” he said.

    Adeosun said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    Chief Magistrate Lazarus Hotepo granted the accused N50,000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    The case continues on February 12.

     

  • Agent steals landlord’s N250,000

    A 68-year-old estate agent, Raheem Oyebo, yesterday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a house seeker of N250, 000.

    Oyebo, who, lives in Agege, was said to have failed to remit the amount into the landlady’s account.

    He pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde alleged that the accused committed the offence on December 6 at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

    He alleged that the accused stole N250,000 belonging to the complainant, Mrs. Taiwo Olaofe.

    “The accused collected the money from the complainant and converted it to his use,” Ayorinde said.

    He said the case was reported at the police station and the accused was arrested.

    The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi granted the accused N100, 000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    She said the sureties should be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case continues on January 21.

     

  • Worker ‘steals’ customer’s rice

    A 25-year-old worker of Agofure Transport Service, Tombra Okorodudu, yesterday appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his customer’s 16 bags of rice worth N220, 800 and N40, 000 cash.

    Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie said Okorodudu, who lives on Okulaja Street in Ajegunle, committed the offence on November 10 at Agofure Transport Service, Ojota, Lagos.

    The offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate E. Kubeinje granted him N50,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    Kubeinje ordered that the sureties must be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    She adjourned till January 2.

  • Boy 16, ‘steals’ woman’s bag, phone

    A 16-year-old boy, was yesterday arrigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attacking, stealing the phone and handbag of a woman.

    Chief Magistrate K.B. Ayeye granted the teenager N100,000 bail, with one surty in the like sum after he pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of stealing, conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.

    The chief magistrate directed that the teenager should be remanded at the Borstal Juvenile Training Institute in Adigbe, Abeokuta, Ogun State, pending perfection of his bail.

    Prosecutor Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 21, at 5am at Ajoke Street, Yaba, Lagos.

    He alleged that the boy attacked Miss Oluchi Eze on her way to work.

    Nurudeen alleged that the accused stabbed Eze in the face and right leg while trying to snatch her handbag.

    The prosecutor said the accused stole Eze’s handbag worth N2,500, Tecno phone valued at N45,000, and N20,000.

  • Barber ‘steals N150,000 from sister’s account’

    A barber, Muri Adebiyi, was yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his sister’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and withdrawing N150,000 from her account.

    Adebiyi, 30, of Isolo Road, Mushin, is standing trial before Magistrate M.O Tanimola.

    Prosecuting Inspector Aondohemba Koti said the defendant committed the offence on August 20 at Mushin.

    Koti alleged that Adebiyi withdrew N150, 000 out of the N200,000 in Mrs Kudirat Muhammed’s account without her consent.

    The court heard that Muhammed, who received debit alerts on her phone, rushed to the bank only to find that her brother was the thief.

    Koti said: “The complainant got debit alerts amounting to N150, 000 from her account and she immediately went to the bank to lodge a complaint.

    “The bank checked the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) recording and she watched her younger brother withdrawing her money.

    “The case was reported to the police and the defendant was arrested.”

    The offence, he said, contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Adebiyi pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate Tanimola granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

    The case continues on September 19.

  • Uber driver ‘steals’ employer’s car

    A 27-year-old man, Uber driver, James Ejemba, was yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with his employer’s Toyota Corolla car valued at N2million.

    Ejemba is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some other persons still at large on February 14 at Ile-Zik Bus Stop, Ikeja, Lagos.

    He alleged that the accused stole the car marked SMK 694 EU belonging to one Mrs Ngozi Ireoha.

    Emuerhi said the accused however claimed that the car was stolen by four men who robbed him at gun point along Oshodi Expressway.

    “He said he was attacked, but he failed to report the case to the police until he was arrested,’’ he said.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate O. Sule Amzat granted the accused N200,000 bail with two responsible sureties in the like sum and adjourned the case till July 2.

  • Unemployed ‘steals’ microphones

    An unemployed man, Peter Adeoye, who allegedly stole microphones and speakers valued at N325, 000 from two churches, at the weekend, appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    Adeoye, 28, who lives at 1, Alade Street, Iba new site, Igando, a Lagos suburb, is facing a three-count charge of alleged conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

    Police prosecutor Innocent Odugbo told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offences with others at large on February 9, on Candos Road, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos.

    He alleged that the accused burgled a Redeemed Christian Church of God parish and Adoration Chapel Church, stealing gadgets.

    “They were, however, caught by security guards. Others escaped,” Odugbo said.

    The offences violate sections 287, 306 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Magistrate, Mr. A. O. Komolafe, granted the accused bail at N100,000 with two sureties.

    He adjourned the case till April 11 for mention.

    Man ‘steals’ POS machine, cell phones

    The police yesterday arraigned one Mohammed Mustapha, in a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a Point of Sales machine (POS) and two cell phones.

    The defendant who resides at Byazhin Across, Kubwa, Abuja is facing a three-count charge of criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that one Charles Obiozor of Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Dec. 14.

    He said the defendant trespassed into the complainant’s premises and broke into his shop through the ceiling on August 13.

    “The defendant stole the complainant’s POS machine and two cell phones ,valued at N23, 000,” he said.

    According to him, the offences contravened Sections 342, 346 and 288 of the Penal Code.

    The judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted the defendant N50, 000 bail with one surety in the like sum and adjourned the matter till February 26.
