  • Man steals N8m from employer

    A 33-year old man, Rasak Adeosun, has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing N8 million from an electronic door firm.

    Adeosun, a former worker of the firm, was yesterday arraigned before Mrs A. O. Ogunbowale of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ekong Sunday said the defendant committed the offence sometime between 2010 and August 2014 while working with Hawel Technology Company Ltd.

    He alleged that Adeosun stole the cash, “with intent to deprive the company of the money permanently”.

    The offence, he added, is punishable under section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The defendant denied the charge.

    Magistrate Ogunbowale granted him N2 million bail with two sureties in the like sum.

    One of the sureties, she said, must be a relation and show evidence of two years tax payment.

    The case was adjourned till April 12.

  • Man ‘steals’ phones, cash

    A 24-year-old man, Hassan Balogunk, was yesterday arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja, Lagos, for alleged stealing.

    Balogun was alleged to have stolen a Nokia phone worth N5,000;  Blackberry Q5 worth N35,000, Techno phone worth N70,000  and a N30, 000 cash all belonging to Kehinde Omokhilo.

    The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    According to the prosecutor, Superintendent of police Lugard Ahole, the defendant and others at large stole the items at Balogun junction in Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, on August 26.

    Ahole said the offence is punishable under Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state 2011.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate T. Akani granted him N100, 000 bail with one surety in the like sum.

    Akani adjourned the case till September 16.

  • Woman steals friend’s three-day-old baby in Edo

    There was an uneasy calm in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo yesterday, following an allege theft of a three-day- old baby by a close friend of the mother.

    The incident, which occurred at about 3:30pm, angered residents in the community who rained curses on the baby thief, while angry youths mobilized and went in search of the suspect, who was said to have fled the area.

    The suspect was said to have visited to felicitate with her friend on hearing the news that she was delivered of a baby boy.

    She was said to have assisted her friend with some domestic chores as guests trooped in to congratulate her.

    The mother of the baby was said to have left her baby with her friend to attend to other chores at the back of the house, but returned to discover that her friend had disappeared with her baby.

    She was said to have raised an alarm after searching the neighbourhood, leading to a manhunt for the fleeing baby thief.

    However, the fleeing suspect was later apprehended in faraway Irrua community of Edo Central Local Government area and handed over to the police.

    Unconfirmed reports indicated that the suspect’s action may not be unconnected with the loss of her own baby shortly after birth few days ago.

    Edo State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Steve Onwochei, when contacted, said the command is yet to be briefed about the incident.

    Meanwhile, one Eunice Ojo has been arrested by men of the Edo State Police command for giving fault information to police on a phantom kidnapping incident.

    She was said to have had a quarrel with her lover, one Adejumola Adekunle, at Iguobasimi Street in the GRA.

    According to reports, she later lodged a report at the Adeiyan Police Station, and claimed that some gunmen kidnapped her with her two children, aged six and eight respectively.

    However, investigation by men of the anti-kidnapping team indicated that her lover was framed up owing to an earlier quarrel they had.

  • Salesgirl ‘steals’ N1.19m cash

    A 26-year old sales girl, Opeyemi Lateef, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing her master’s N1.19million cash.

    The prosecution gave her master’s name as Onyebuchi Umeokoli.

    Lateef, who appeared before Magistrate A.T Omoyele, was alleged to have committed the offence on February 13 at 5pm at 18, Sunny Adewale Street, Balogun Market, Lagos Island.

    According to prosecuting police Corporal Francesca Okere, the defendant committed an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her and was admitted to bail in N300, 000 with two responsible sureties.

    The matter was adjourned to March 30, for mention.
