IYC: ignore calls to stop Tantita’s contract

Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has condemned calls by Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) and others on President Bola Tinubu to remove the pipeline surveillance contract from Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSNL) on Urhobo territory.

The council is ‘‘appalled that the body may have lost touch with its formation values, which include building strength in unity and good neighbourliness’’.

It noted that the contract awarded to TSSNL, by the Federal Government was not on ethnic basis, but on the grounds of competence. In fact, the contract was awarded after an open bidding and rigorous screening.

It said: ‘‘TSSNL has delivered on the terms of its contract, which is evident in the rise of oil production volume.

‘‘It is within the rights of UPU to seek perceived benefits due the Urhobo from government. However, doing such at the altar of whipping ethnic sentiments is a misstep, too overt to ignore, knowing full well the number of Urhobo contractors working in Ijaw territories.

‘‘This misstep, if left uncorrected, could snowball into a sustained blackmail against an Ijaw-owned firm and whip up tension in Warri and environs.

Ijaw Youth Council urges UPU ‘‘to refrain from undermining achievements of Tantita as a frontline army in the fight against illegal oil bunkering, oil theft and protection of oil facilities.

‘‘We call on President Tinubu to ignore the calls from UPU and all quarters to rescind Tantita’s engagement based on the competence and impeccable results the company has produced, as this calls are borne out of ethnic sentiments due to the management of TSSNL living up to its expectations.

‘‘In fact, we urge the President to expand the scope of the contract, as TSSNL’s commitment to boosting oil production volumes is obvious.

‘‘We urge TSSNL to be resolute in its fight against oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, and its impactful CSR, it said.

Tantita, UPU faceoff: Ex-agitator calls for calm

Mayor of Urhoboland, Eshanekpe Israel (Akpodoro), has appealed for calm in the face-off  between Urhobo Progressives Union (UPU) and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL).

In a statement in Ughelli, Delta State, Akpodoro said TSSNL doesn’t deserve verbal attacks from Urhobo, noting that no firm has empowered Urhobo people like TSSNL, owned and managed by Chief Government Ekpemukpolo (Tompolo).

His call is a reaction to the feud between the umbrella body of the Urhobo and private security firm, TSSNL, a body managing oil pipelines security surveillance for the Federal Government.

UPU, at the weekend, called for the sack of TSSNL from Urhoboland, and suggested that the security surveillance contract be given to indigenous security outfit, a move the mayor described as misplaced since the private firm had been doing a good job in securing the pipelines from prolonged pillaging by saboteurs.

“TSSNL, owned by an Ijaw son, has done more than anyone in Urhoboland to exit our youths from poverty in its empowerment drive and this should make the umbrella body of Urhobo back the firm.

“It is pertinent to note that when the oil pipelines’ security surveillance contract was awarded to stakeholders, particularly former militants leaders, NNPCL gave the western axis to TSSNL from where most of the pipelines in Urhoboland was sub-let to Zane Energy, owned and managed by Jim Omo-Agege, a younger brother of former deputy Senate president.

“The contract was erroneously awarded to Omo-Agege …. I took this matter before UPU, but there was not much response against him, and he went away with the contract.

“The Presidential Amnesty Agreement mentioned former  militants as the first beneficiaries of such contract with the right of first refusal. But without enough consultation, the contract was sub-let to Omo-Agege by TSSN.

“Unfortunately, the man holding fort for the Urhobo in that contract is not empowering Urhobo.

“However, TSSNL with the likes of Chief Keston Pondi, identified Urhobo youths and empowered many…

“In June 2024, at Gbaramatu, Tompolo promised to work with a template to accommodate more youths of Urhonoland through UPU Youth Wing It’s information that while we await TSSNL to hand them the memorandum, we begin to hear discordant tunes. This is not good for us. Tomopolo/TSSNL should be supported to succeed, not attacks. The Urhobo shouldn’t attack TSSNL because it has been and still uplifting our people and exiting them from poverty…’’ he noted.

“Urhobo has been part of TSSNL progress, and that must remain to build unity and peace. Urhobo and Ijaw cannot antagonise each other. I call for peace, understanding, tolerance, unity in diversity, and  a stronger bond of brotherhood and friendship… he said.

“TSSNL will soon come up with a work template that will accommodate more Urhobo youths add value to every one of us. We have the association of the benefiaries of the TSSNL’s social responsibilities, and we are proud to have Tompolo, Pondi, and Dr. Dennis Otuaro. The rejection of the TSSNL is the most uncharitable thing to do by any responsible group. Rather than condemn, UPU should, on behalf of Urhobo nation commend the firm for standing tell in its commitment to a better Urhobo nation.

“If any entity must be rejected in the oil pipelines surveillance contract award, it should be Zane Enegy Services LTD.owned by Omo-Agege. Every grievance having to do with poor empowerment has to be directed at Omo-Agege and his Zane Energy. He doesn’t deserve that contract. He has no single Urhobo youth in his payroll except a handful of his kits and kins in Orogun.

“Tantita, NPDC, and the NNPCL should immediately sack Zane Energy Services from the pipelines surveillance contract. That company doesn’t represent Urhobo nation.

“To this end, I crave the indulgence of the leadership of UPU to reconsider their stance on the erroneous call for the sack of TSSNL. That company has done more than any government ever did for youths in Delta State and beyond. TSSNL is the biggest industry in the Niger Delta region. We should not destroy our own. Let’s support TSSNL to do more for Urhobo nation. This renewed effort by the mayor will hopefully yield results soon.” His Excellency enthused.

Delta community leader warns against sponsored protests against Tantita

A respected leader in the oil-rich Ogulagha Kingdom of Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Larry Adanike, has cautioned Urhobo communities against staging what he described as sponsored protests against Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL).

TSSL, owned by Ijaw leader High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo), plays a pivotal role in protecting Nigeria’s oil pipelines. In a statement issued on Sunday, Chief Adanike called for restraint, highlighting that the same security contract was previously handled by the late Capt. Hosa Okunbo from Edo State in Urhobo territories for eight years without any protests.

Adanike noted that even during periods of widespread pipeline vandalism and devastating environmental impacts in host communities, no such demonstrations were held. He recalled that before Tantita’s involvement, Nigeria’s crude oil output had plummeted to 650,000 barrels per day, largely due to pipeline breaches by oil thieves.

He warned that protests motivated by the ethnic identity of Tantita’s owner threaten the longstanding inter-ethnic peace in the Niger Delta. According to Adanike, it is unjust to oppose Tantita’s operations simply because the firm belongs to an Ijaw man.

He also pointed out that the Olu of Warri currently oversees territories that extend well beyond TSSL’s operational zones, including Ijaw-speaking areas in Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom, yet no similar resistance has emerged from those regions.

He said, “Today people are sponsoring Itsekiris to protest against the Ijaw man’s company, asking for the withdrawal of Tantita Security job, which Tantita is executing very competently – such that we no longer have vandalism and oil theft, and our oil production has improved tremendously up to at least 1.8m barrels per day.

“They are seeking to deny Tantita access to Itsekiri communities. Now the Urhobo are saying the same thing. This will not help the cause of unity amongst the tribes in Delta State.”

Adanike also listed the numerous major pipeline contracts being executed by people belonging to other ethnic groups, especially the Urhobos in Ijaw communities, amid no protests.

He said that targeting a company because it belonged to somebody from another ethnic group was a dangerous trend which would be counterproductive.

He said, “When the security surveillance jobs were awarded by NAPPIMS through SPDC decades ago, it was frontline Urhobo contractors from Ughelli axis that handled all major security and maintenance contracts for decades in Ijaw areas of Forcados, Ogulagha, and Escravos, Gbaramatu, Tunu, Beniseide Ojobo,  Egbema-Angalabiri, Bayelsa, among others.

“Some other Urhobo and Isoko contractors who held sway then in major engineering and EPIC Construction contracts were Eruben Ltd, SJ Jones. SAMOT Ltd, Temile & Sons, Itsekiri.

Till today, NAPPIMS’ major maintenance and epic contracts are being executed in Ijaw Areas by well-known Urhobo and Isoko Contractors, pushing Ijaw contractors out of their well-known marine equipment business.

“But no Ijaw community, either collectively or individually, has protested against, undermined or frustrated these Urhobo or Isoko contractors or is seeking to expel them from Ijaw land.

“Similarly, no Ijaw community is protesting and fighting the Olu of Warri’s company, Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, from executing its surveillance and security contract. Rather, the Ijaw communities are assisting and cooperating with the Olu’s PINL to successfully execute its work.

“I appeal to our Urhobo and Itsekiri brothers to be circumspect and think twice about this fight against Tantita. No one knows the aftermath. Your brothers and chiefs have been operating contracts and eating in Ijaw Areas for decades.

But the only one that fate gave to an Ijaw man, you say he should not work in your area? How fair is that?

“The Chairman of Tantita is an Ijaw Leader from both Gbaramatu and Ogulagha kingdoms, key oil-producing kingdoms with massive assets helping the economy of Delta State and Nigeria.

“We have managed our unity and togetherness better than this. Who knows if, after years, an Urhobo man will be given this work that Tantita Services is doing today? Will Ijaws now say that such a contractor should not work in Ijaw areas too?

Okporoko faults UPU over pipeline contract awarded to Tantita

Executive Assistant, Security Matters To Delta Governor, Amb Chief Godwin Okporoko JP, has backed Tantita Security Services Limited and urged the National Security Adviser (NSA) to disregard the publication by Urhobo Progress Union UPU.

Okporoko made the comments on Saturday while reacting to the letter addressed to the National Security Adviser by Urhobo Progress Union (UPU).

The President General, Owahwa Sub-Clan, OML34, Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South LGA, Delta State, said the UPU’s letter and publication was ill-advised and misleading, adding the NSA must know that Urhobo will never reject any Nigerian or an Ijaw man executing legitimate contract in Urhobo Land.

According to him: “ There are Urhobo contractors also handling Federal government contracts in Ijaw land and in other parts of Nigeria. They were never rejected. This UPU’s letter should be disregarded as those who signed the letter cannot cause dispute between Urhobo and our Ijaw brothers because of their selfish interest

“ The people and host communities in Urhobo Land, where Tantita Security Services Limited is operating and providing security services to the Federal Government are benefiting and not complaining. When Tantita Security Services Limited secured the pipeline surveillance contract, stakeholders were consulted and youths from Urhobo pipeline communities were employed.”

Okporoko, a prominent Urhobo leader, further disclosed that Tantita Security Services Limited recruited Urhobo indigenes for the operations and being paid monthly.

“ When a Benin man from Edo State was awarded the pipeline surveillance contract in Urhobo Land, the UPU went to sleep and did not reject the Benin man. Some persons who signed the UPU’s letter to the NSA were major beneficiaries when the Benin man handled the pipeline surveillance contract in Urhobo Land.

“ An Ijaw man in Delta State, Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, got the contract and executing the project effectively and efficiently, the UPU is crying fowl. Those Urhobos who want pipeline surveillance contracts, should go to Abuja and NNPCL to hustle for their own contracts, and remove their eyes from the Contract of Tantita Security Services Limited, because Urhobo people are benefiting from Tantita.

“ Under the law of Nigeria, Tantita Security Services Limited, a registered indigenous company is free to execute project in Urhobo Land or any party of Nigeria. The Federal Government and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL, found Tompolo worthy and competent to handle the project and the contract was duly awarded to his company, Tantita Security Services Limited.

“ The significant increase in crude oil production is an attestation to the patriotism, commitment and capacity shown or demonstrated by Chief Government Ekpemupolo and his company Tantita Security Services Limited. It is very unfortunate that Urhobo Progress Union UPU, the highest socio-cultural organization of Urhobo Nation has been reduced to a mere pressure group, dabbling into issues beyond its control.”

He stressed: “ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL are seeing the good job being done by Tantita Security Services Limited in Urhobo Land and Niger Delta. Apart from securing Oil facilities, Tantita Security Services Limited is also doing great job through its Corporate Social Responsibility CSR, giving back to society and supporting the government in the area of infrastructural development.”

Tompolo excited over partnership between NUJ, Tantita

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tantita Security Services Limited, High Chief Government Ekpemuokpolo has applauded the Nigeria media in its strategic role in the fight against oil theft.

Tompolo, who received the National, Zonal and State leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his country home at Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, weekend, noted that the media has been pivotal in the achievements of Tantita.

He said Tantita today is globally recognised among first rate security companies in the world due to unfettered media reportage of the activities of Tantita Security Services.

“All over the world, it is because of your work that people are seeing what we’re doing. Considering what the media is doing for us (Tantita), what we came to commission (building of the NUJ Warri Correspondents Chapel Secretariat), is small compared to what they are doing.

“We want to use this medium to thank the immediate past president and the incumbent for giving us this opportunity to serve our country.

“You need to work more harder. We can only achieve our aims and objectives if we work together. We cannot achieve it alone.

“We have to put in all that we have – everything – to see that Nigerian waterways are regarded as the most secured. We can only achieve this together “, the reverred Ijaw leader stressed.

Earlier, the National President of NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya told Tompolo that the leadership of the NUJ was in Oporoza to thank him for the state of the art Press Centre built by Tantita for the Union, was first of its kind in the country.

Yahya also showered praises on Tompolo for his support towards the 2024 Delegate Conference of the NUJ in Owerri, where he emerged as the national leader of the union.

He acknowledged the uncommon generosity and philanthropy of the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation to humanity, adding that his contributions significantly eased the burden of the union during tbe Owerri gathering .

Niger Delta monarch urges investigation of anti-Tantita protest’s sponsors

Niger-Delta monarch, His Majesty Udurhie I, Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, has condemned the protest against private surveillance firm, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), with a call for investigation of the “sponsors”.

The royal father, who is the Chairman of the Host Communities of Nigeria (HOSCON) Traditional Rulers and Elders Advisory, while addressing reporters on Tuesday, called on the federal government and security agencies to unravel those behind the protest, which, according to him, is aimed at disrupting oil and gas production.

“Their activity is nothing short of criminals coming out openly to identify their intentions and those behind the unending pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft.

“If not, how could someone who wishes our great country well come out to carry out such an evil campaign without shame or realising the consequences of their evil action?

“Why campaign for the cancellation of Tantita Security Services Limited when many others who were awarded the same job with no visible performance are retaining their job?

“The question to be asked is why Tantita, and when has good job performance become a crime in Nigeria?

“For Nigerians who do not know the sorry state of the Niger Delta environment, the water body and the loss of aquatic lives and even the low oil production was due principally to criminal vandalisation and open stealing of crude oil that almost brought our nation’s economy to its knees and the current situation that will truly understand whose interest these elements represent.

“High Chief Government Ekpemupolo’s boldness, courage and risk to protecting sensitive, critical national oil/ gas installations should be commended by all who wish the Nigeria economy and the Niger Delta environment well.

“These faceless sponsored elements should hide their heads in shame because Tantita has brought an end to their evil enterprise.

“How on earth can someone protest against a security project simply because their sources of evil wealth have been blocked by a courageous individual hired by the federal government to protect its installations?

“The best way to reward High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo and his Tantita Security Services Limited is to expand the current scope of the job and grant more areas to be covered that will help the company to employ more of our able-bodied youths from the streets.

“The fast return of aquatic lives, clean water bodies and the gradual environmental restoration are all traceable to the laudable job of Tantita Security Services Limited, and every attempt to sabotage it must be strongly condemned.

“Issues of tribal bigotry and ethnic sentiments should not be brought into a performing enterprise of group or individuals; performances should be applauded instead of this show of shame,” the Traditional ruler stated.

Soldiers, Tantita operatives intercept suspected stolen crude oil-laden truck in Delta

Personnel of the 181 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, in a joint operation with operatives of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, on Monday, intercepted a vacuum truck laden with suspected stolen crude oil and its driver at Olomoro Community.

The driver of the truck, identified as Matthew Ojomikre, is in custody of the Army.

The suspect and the truck were arrested after stealing crude oil from wellhead 3, under oil mining lease (OML) 30, operated by Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HEOSL).

It was gathered that the suspect went to the well-head without the permission, approval and license from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), to illegally load crude oil.

The suspect was accosted just when he was about to leave the scene by soldiers, who further informed Tantita operatives, leading to his eventual arrest.

When interrogated, the suspect confessed that his company was contracted by Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited to help evacuate sludge from well 3, Olomoro, but he failed to present any formal approval or document to show that such activity was to take place.

Findings revealed that HEOSL usually sends crude oil and condensate trucking permits to officers of the Nigerian Army and TSSNL for proper monitoring from the loading to the discharge point.

At the time of filing this report, officers of Tantita Security Services, in collaboration with the Heritage team and the Nigerian Army, had collected samples from the vacuum truck for laboratory testing and analysis.

The development has caused concerns among stakeholders, with calls on relevant security agencies including the Department of State Services to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, the Security Manager of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, Lt. Col. Goldman Azagba (Rtd), said he was unaware of the driver’s business at the wellhead.

‘Tantita not guilty of rights abuses’

The Northern Youths Progressive Network has defended Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited against allegations of human rights abuses.

The group said the “unfounded” allegations were intended to undermine the reputation of the security organisation that is actively combating pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.

The Arewa Youth Alliance for Progress and Development had accused the security organisation of human rights abuses.

In a statement on Sunday, Convener of the Northern Youths Progressive Network, Comrade Bala Mohammed highlighted Tantita’s significant contributions since 2022.

He noted that the organisation has boosted revenue generation and created over 47,000 jobs in the Niger Delta.

Mohammed said that Tantita has received acclaim from stakeholders in the oil sector for its effective operations and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

He urged the public to recognise the positive impact of Tantita’s work, which focuses on apprehending offenders and cooperating with the appropriate authorities.

Mohammed stated: “These allegations are baseless and malicious, aiming to tarnish the reputation of a top-performing private security organisation dedicated to eradicating pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region.

“The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, made a prudent decision to engage Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, given its expertise in pipeline surveillance.

They specifically praised the appointments of Dr. Denis Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Program and Barr. Bosin Ebikeme as Chairman of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority.

These gestures, according to the stakeholders, reflect the President’s commitment to inclusivity and the development of the Niger Delta region.

The commendation was part of the resolutions during a meeting hosted by the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, at his country home in Obobagbene, Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, at the weekend.

  • Bad news for oil thieves at Tantita’s night of glory

Bad news for oil thieves at Tantita’s night of glory

Recently, stakeholders gathered in Warri, Delta State to reflect on how Tantita Security Services Limited came, saw and has continued to conquer the menace of oil theft in the Niger Delta. Mike Odiegwu, who was at the event, which doubled as an end of the year party and awards night, reports.

Nigeria‘s oil production has gone up. It has hit a remarkable figure of two million barrels per day. Insider sources from the Tantita Security Services Limited said if all the repairs on leaking pipelines are carried out, the current production will reach an unimaginable 2.5 million barrels per day.

It was never imagined about five years ago that the country’s oil production could hit such a figure. Prior to 2022, Nigerian oil production was in a big mess. It was infested by the virus of oil theft. Criminal elements devised various means to steal crude oil from pipelines, oil wells and other conveyor belts of crude oil.

To get the crude, they burst pipelines, tapped lines and oil wells. Various illegal oil businesses boomed. Economic saboteurs were having a field day enriching themselves overnight and allowing the odour of raw crude oil saturate the atmosphere. Illegal refining of crude by notoriously skilled local engineers was dominant. Illegal refineries proliferated, as many community folks turned cooking of crude oil to personal, family and community business.

They cooked diesel, kerosene and fuel. It never mattered that most times their cooking factories exploded and roasted thousands of them alive. Such incidents permanently destroyed the environment and rendered many water bodies useless.  Many died but others living were not deterred. They continued growing the criminal empire of economic sabotage.

The atmosphere was dotted with billowing smokes wafting from such cooking centres, which were mostly located inside thick forests. Different respiratory diseases engulfed creeks and urban centres, as soots descended from the sky and settled in homes and nostrils staining shirts and floors. The activities of oil thieves made living in the Niger Delta life threatening.

Prior to 2022, the economy, which depends heavily on oil, continued to haemorrhage. Nigeria lost significant revenue and resorted to borrowing massively for survival.

But all that has changed, thanks to the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) founded by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly called Tompolo.

Recently, stakeholders gathered in Warri, Delta State to reflect on how Tantita came, saw and continued to conquer the menace of oil theft in the Niger Delta. It was an end of year party and award night organised by the management of Tantita.

The Managing Director, TSSNL, Chief Kestin Pondi, described the period before 2022 as a dark time for the oil industry. He recalled that oil production vices were high, measuring about 36.69million barrels, with daily production output hovering within 800,000 to 900,000 barrels per day.

After the engagement of Tantita, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) reported that crude oil production vices reduced to 7.68 million barrels, 79 per cent decrease.

Reducing such crime rate within two years of operation in a complex and life threatening environment is not a tea party. Pondi said sacrifices were made. High level operational strategies were formulated and diligently prosecuted. Lives of Tantita workers, security personnel and informants were lost. Consistent patrols, negotiations and stakeholders’ engagements were carried out.

To buttress the level of operations deployed to ward off oil thieves and stabilise the economy, Pondi said from 2022 to November 2024, Tantita warriors in their unparallel commitment and resilience to fight oil theft discovered 3,963 incidents of crude oil theft. Out of the number 702 were illegal connections, 971 were cases of theft, 1,784 were illegal refinery cases and 204 cases of diversion.

The efforts to clean the augen stable led to massive results. Reeling out the facts, Pondi said the Tantita team apprehended eight vessels, three tugboats, six barges, 117 vehicles, 52 tankers, 47 fiber speedboats, tricycles and motorcycles as well as 1,743 wooden boats used by economic saboteurs to steal crude and other petroleum products.

The Managing Director said: “While it could be exhaustive to highlight every detail of our activities to curtail oil theft, a whole lot of other discoveries had been made by our team that has subsumed the scourge of oil theft.

“Our success is rooted in the collaboration and the support we have received from the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration whose commitment and partnership has strengthened our resolve and defined our impact.

“The battle is not just about protecting the nation’s oil and gas; it is a mission to secure the future of Nigeria. At Tantita, we have embraced the responsibility with unwavering resolve and I am proud to say we are making significant progress.”

Pondi did not forget all the partners and collaborators that had contributed to the success story of Tantita. Security agencies such as the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) are working closely with Tantita to drive oil thieves and saboteurs out of the creeks.

There are also informants, who help in exposing the nefarious activities of oil thieves. Some of the informants and security personnel paid the ultimate prize. Therefore, Pondi called for a minute of silence for such individuals who were so patriotic that they surrendered their lives for the progress of the country’s economy.

Pondi did not fail to recognize Mele Kyari and his board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, who despite all pressures, took the bold step to set up the security architecture. He further poured encomium on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government for all its support and determination to end all forms of economic sabotage.

He said: “While we count our success story, we will not forget those, who paid the ultimate prize; the ones whose blood our success rests on especially the personnel of the Nigerian Army, the civil defence corps, key informants and employees of Tantita. They died in the course of ensuring that our nation has a booming economy. We mourn and celebrate their sacrifices”.

Pondi harped on the resilience of the Tantita team. He described members of the team as a collection of individuals, whose collective contributions define the successes in the field, operational room and support services.

“Every member of the Tantita Security plays an indispensable role in achieving our mission. Your courage, diligence and determination inspire us all. Tonight we celebrate you,” he said.

Pondi was right. The strength of Tantita has depended hugely on its collaboration with security agencies such as the Nigerian Navy, the Army, the Air Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Security (DSS).  They provide the required security cover for Tantita foot soldiers to battle the menace.

Some stakeholders applauded the roles of the NSCDC in Tantita’s operations. They observed that the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, through his Deputy Commandant-General, Philip Ayuba, has been at the forefront of the required success for Tantita. In fact, Dr. Audi was highly represented at the event by Philip Ayuba.

These agencies share same operational strategies, vision and objectives with Tantita, resisting all forms of compromise and inducements by moneybag oil thieves. Like a family united by purpose, they work harmoniously with Tantita to get rid of the demons in the oil sector. Most of them along with Tantita fighters have also paid the supreme prize.

While Pondi spoke, many stakeholders in the hall discussed the leadership, managerial capacity and personal qualities he (Pondi) had deployed to make Tantita succeed in its mission to eradicate all forms of economic sabotage.

They observed that under Pondi, Tantita has gone beyond a mere security outfit to become the emerging way of life in the Niger Delta. Pondi fosters communal living, allowing resources of Tantita to trickle down to all the nooks and crannies of the Niger Delta. His generosity ensures inclusivity of all stakeholders, who now share in the vision of Tantita.

Pondi’s managerial style has given most people in the Niger Delta a sense of belonging. Tantita touches lives; solves common daily problems; gives to the needy, the elderly, students, women, youths and engage idle minds in meaningful ventures.

Therefore, most persons hitherto involved in oil theft were said to have willingly and voluntarily surrendered and embraced Tantita’s vision. Just recently, Pondi intervened and gave N30million to a young lawyer in the region, Etifa Jonathan, who was seeking such money for kidney transplant required to save his life.

They also observed that Pondi’s leadership and generous qualities have kept the workforce of Tantita permanently happy. An elderly man in the hall said the managing director builds houses for the workers; buys them vehicles including their wives and ensures their wives were established in businesses. He has established high level of staff welfare and motivation. The employees reciprocate by diligently executing their tasks and avoiding every form of sabotage and betrayal.

In fact, the event was designed to motivate the staff of Tantita and its partners. Outstanding employees were recognised and sub-contractors were given excellence awards. The employees collectively gave Kestin Pondi an award as an outstanding managing director.

No wonder, Pondi said to them: “As we honour excellence through this award, let it serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together with unity of purpose. It is a testament to the power of team work and shared vision.

“While we celebrate tonight, let’s also look forward with renewed determination. The journey ahead requires better efforts and together with the support of the government, there is no challenge we can’t overcome”.

Therefore, beyond the deployment of kinetic force, Tantita through Kestin Pondi, has deployed its resources and  initiated humanitarian measures to reach all stakeholders and give them a sense of belonging.

In fact, apart from growing the economy, the efforts of Tantita in collaboration with other security agencies have gradually restored the environment of the Niger Delta. The environment is gradually recovering from years of damage caused by illegal refinery operations, pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering.

The water bodies, which hitherto suffered massive pollution and were in disuse, are wearing a new look, following the reduction in the activities of oil thieves in the region. With the restoration of water bodies and the entire environment, people in the region are returning to their traditional occupations of farming and fishing.

A former President of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Udengs Eradiri, who graced the occasion, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for believing in Tompolo’s Tantita, noting that with its performance, the security outfit has made the President proud. He said having delivered on its mandate, Tantita should be considered for additional responsibilities.

Eradiri said: “The success of Tantita is not something surprising to people like us. I will use this opportunity to firstly thank the President for giving Tantita the opportunity to express itself.

“The benefits Tantita have given to the country is because the Federal Government listened to the cries of the people and decided to engage the Niger Delta people. Tantita has proven that they can do this job. This is a job that many people cannot do and a lot of forces because of interest cannot do.

“Tantita has been able to, without fear or favour, create an economy and security in the Niger Delta and ultimately given money to the Nigerian state. Tantita has brought together young people of the Niger Delta from different facets of the region – Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and other parts of the Niger Delta.

“Tantita has rallied round people in the academia, creeks, community and youths. That is why you see the successes the country had recorded. This company deserves a lot of support from the Federal Government. We call on the government to give Tantita more responsibilities.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. Christopher Nyong, recalled how High Chief Tompolo became the lone voice in the wilderness and how evil oil cabal tried to exterminate him. The lecturer said Tompolo later became the Messiah that came to rescue the oil sector.

Nyong, who is the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, remembered that the economy was at the verge of implosion before Tompolo’s Tantita came to the rescue.

“The economy was almost imploding and there was no sign of help from anybody. In the appointed time the lone voice came to rescue Nigeria from the oil cabal,” he said.

He lamented that despite the vast riches, oil theft and mismanagement emasculated the country’s economy. He said $2.1bn worth of oil was stolen in 2019 and $22.4bn in 2022 before Tantita came into the picture.

What has Tantita done differently? He queried. The professor said the success of Tantita depended largely on its operational modalities, leveraging on community efforts. Besides, he said Tantita has become a tool to fight unemployment in the region, adding that the security outfits currently employs 18,000 youths. He said Tantita also created jobs through its engagement of many sub-contractors.

The end of year party and award night became an opportunity for workers and stakeholders to unwind and dine. Many comedians within and outside the state entertained the guests. Top musicians like Kecee Limpopo thrilled the audience. The presence of a popular Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke and a well-known billionaire socialite and philanthropist, E-Money  among others spiced the occasion.

A tall cake of success and victory was cut by dignitaries to mark the occasion. At the end, it became obvious that the country’s economy rests on the shoulders of Tompolo’s Tantita; and to take the peace in the Niger Delta and the progress in the economy to the next level, the Federal Government and all stakeholders must ignore all forms of blackmail, bile and negative jealousy against Tantita and keep supporting the security outfit to record more breakthroughs.
