  • Teenager ‘defiles’ three stepsisters

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded a 14-year-old boy for allegedly defiling his three stepsisters.

    Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat ordered that the teenager be remanded at the Oregun Correctional Home for Boys.

    She directed that  a copy of the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

    The accused, who lives at 11, Olayinka Adenubi Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of defilement, indecent assault and sexual abuse.

    The accused’s mother, Ihuoma Oke, is facing a charge of parental neglect.

    The teenager pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Inspector Simeon Imhonwa said the accused committed the offences last November at his residence.

    He said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the victims aged two, five and 10.

    “The accused sexually abused his stepsisters and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with them.

    “The victims, however, told their care giver, the case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

    The case continues on April 8.

  • Teenager jailed for cell break

    The convict was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, escape from lawful custody and wilful damage to government property.

    Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere sentenced him to one month imprisonment on counts one and two, with an option of N10,000 fine each.

    On count three, Oghere sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment, with an option of N20,000 fine for the repair of the damage done at the police station.

    She ruled that the sentence would run concurrently, starting from the date of his arrest.

    Prosecutor Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the convict committed the offence on November 4, at 6am, at Oworonsoki Police Station, Lagos.

    She said Kujero, who was arrested for possession of Indian hemp, was kept in custody at the station pending his arraignment.

    Olaluwoye said Kujero and another at large, broke the cell’s padlock and escaped.

    She said the two scaled the fence and escaped.

    The prosecutor said the accused was arrested while trying to board a boat to Ajah.

  • Teenager allegedly fakes kidnap to swindle boss

    The police in Ogun State have arrested an 18-year-old boy, Michael Adeboye, for allegedly faking his own kidnap to swindle his boss.

    He was arrested alongside two of his friends, Nafiu Ojo and Abdullahi Lawal, by policemen attached to Oke-Itoku Division.

    Michael’s boss, Oluwoju Abiodun, it was learnt, had sent him to deposit N500,000 in a bank, only to receive a call later that he (Michael) had been kidnapped.

    The police said the caller told Abiodun to send N500,000 for Michael’s release, adding that since he (Michael) already had the money, he (Abiodun) asked him to pay the purported kidnappers.

    The police said the suspect squandered N380,000 of the N500,000 on two women at a hotel he lodged while pretending to have been kidnapped.

    Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said the case was transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit after Abiodun reported.

    He said: “The men of anti-kidnapping section subsequently embarked on an investigation and when the suspects discovered that their game would soon be up, the purported victim emerged with series of stories about his fake abduction.

    “Unknown to him, the police were on the trail of his purported abductors. On December 13, the duo of Ojo and Lawal were arrested.

    “They confessed how Michael contracted them to act as kidnappers and call his boss in order to pocket the N500,000 in his possession.

    “Upon their confession, Michael was arrested. He confessed that he lodged in a hotel with two women where he squandered his boss’ money, which he was supposed to deposit in a bank. The remaining money, N120,000, was recovered from him.”

    Oyeyemi said the suspects would be arraigned after investigation.

  • Court remands teenager for alleged theft

    A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Sokoto, yesterday remanded a 19-year-old carpenter, Abdulmalik Abubakar, who allegedly stole 15 yards of Brocade valued at N105, 000 and N200, 000 cash.

    The police charged Abubakar with house trespass and theft.

    Chief Magistrate Nuraddeen Bello, who gave the order, adjourned the case till December 19 for further mention.

    Prosecutor Monday Kennedy had told the court that the case was reported at the Ungwuan Rogo Police Station, Sokoto by the complainant on Decemmber 6.

    Kennedy alleged that Abubakar broke into the house of Alhaji Bilyaminu Shehu at the Tudun Wada area of Sokoto and stole N200, 000 cash, 15 yards of brocade valued at N105, 000 and two phones.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 97, 349, 288 of the Penal Code.

    After the charges were read to him, the accused pleaded not guilty.

     

     

  • Man ‘defiles’ speech-impaired teenager

    The police in Lagos have arrested 40-year-old Mukaila Aliu for alleged sexual assault on a speech-impaired teenager.

    Aliu, a resident of 17, Peluola Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, was arrested on November 19, a year after committing the alleged offence.

    The suspect was said to have been on the run since November 10 last year when he allegedly lured the victim under the guise that he wanted to buy noodles for her.

    The 16-year-old victim was said to have followed Aliu to an abandoned shop on Oshodi Road where he allegedly raped her.

    Passersby reportedly caught him in the act, but the suspect fled and had remained in hiding until November 19, when he was seen demanding levy from a property developer, claiming to be an ‘Omo onile’ (child of owner of land).

    The Nation learnt that unfortunately for him, a worker at the site recognised him and alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Makinde Police Station, Mafoluku, Oshodi, who arrested him and handed him over to the Gender Section of the command for investigation.

    Confirming the incident, police spokesman Chike Oti said the suspect would be arraigned at a Family Court tomorrow.

    He said the command also nabbed a 56-year-old guard, Bello, who allegedly defiled his daughter every night and forced her to drink contraceptives.

    Oti said: “The guard used to work at a school in Lagos. I will not give his name and that of the school for the sake of the minor.

    “But the suspect was reported by the school authorities that he had been having sex with his daughter, who lived with him in a room given to him by the school management.

    “According to the minor, her father sleeps with her every night. Thereafter he gives her contraceptives to prevent her from becoming pregnant.

    “We also arrested Chika Okafor, 39, a resident of 3/16, Oketa Street, Mende, Maryland who on October 17, raped a 15-year-old girl and shaved her pubic hair.

    “The teenager ran from home because her mother threatened to beat her up for losing an important item. The suspect carried her in his car and took her to a beer parlour where he convinced her to take alcoholic drinks.

    “Being her first time to indulge in such habit, the girl became drunk after guzzling several bottles of alcoholic drinks. Seeing the condition of the minor, he took her to a hotel at Oshodi.

    “At that point, the little girl, whom he had undressed, told him to let her be because she was a virgin, but he shaved her pubic hair, defiled her and kept the pubic hair.

    “The following morning, the suspect took her to his friend’s home in Maryland, Lagos and had sex with her again. He thereafter took the minor in his car and dropped her at the nearest location to her parents’ house.

    “The girl narrated her ordeal to her mum and she petitioned Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal, who ordered a manhunt for the suspect. He was arrested on November 24 by detectives attached to the Gender Unit of the command. The suspects will be arraigned at the Family Court tomorrow.”

  • Teenager kidnapped in Enugu found in Niger

    A 14-year-old boy, Lucky Godwin, who was kidnapped at Avuna River in Enugu State, has been found in Niger State.

    Narrating his ordeal in Minna, the state capital, Godwin, who said he was kidnapped with another boy, said he escaped from his abductors by jumping out of the bus when it got to Bida.

    “I didn’t know where they were taking us to until they stopped in Bida. I opened the door and ran away. When they could not see me, they zoomed off with the other boy.

    “I never knew we were in Niger State until I escaped from the bus and met one Igbo man, who took me to a child right’s agency for interrogation.”

    Describing how he was kidnapped, Godwin said two men came to Avuna River where they were fetching water, forced them into their red bus and drove off to an unknown destination.

    The Director-General of Niger State Child Rights Agency, Mariam Kolo, confirmed the incident.

    She said the victim was kidnapped at Avanu River in Enugu State and later found in Bida, Niger State.

    Kolo, a lawyer, said Godwin was kidnapped alongside one other boy, who could not jump out of the bus when their kidnappers arrived in Bida.

    She said: “The victim was brought to our office by an Igbo man living in Bida. After interrogation, the agency found out that Godwin lives with his grandmother in Enugu, while his mother lives in Jos, Plateau State.

    “Investigation is on. I advise parents to monitor their children. They should be concerned about their whereabouts.”

  • Teenager allegedly caught with human parts

    The police in Anambra State have arrested a 19-year-old boy, Sunday Onwe, allegedly caught with fresh human parts in Awka.

    Onwe, an indigene of Mgbo in Ohauku, Ebonyi State, was arrested about 11:30am by policemen attached to ‘B’ Division after a fresh manhood, fingers and blood were seen with him.

    It was gathered that the suspect confessed that he and two others at large kidnapped their young victim at a borehole in Ekwashe village, Ebonyi State.

    They allegedly took the unnamed victim to Umuziaka village where they killed him in the bush, removed his private parts and other parts they needed.

    The Nation learnt that they threw the child’s remains inside Ebonyi River in Ebonyi State before Onwe went to Awka with the parts for reasons unknown.

    According to the police, Onwe named his accomplices as Blessing and Emeka, both at large.

    Police spokesman Haruna Mohammed said the deceased’s fingers and fresh blood were inside a container.

    He added: “The exhibits were deposited at Apex Hospital morgue for preservation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) for investigation, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.”

  • Police nab teenager with human parts 

    The Police in Anambra have arrested a 19-year-old boy Sunday Onwe allegedly caught with fresh human parts at Awka.

    Onwe, a native of Mgbo in Ohauku, Ebonyi State, was arrested around 11:30am by policemen attached to B Division after a fresh penis, fingers and blood were seen with him.

    It was gathered that the suspect confessed that he and two others at large had kidnapped their young victim at a borehole in Ekwashe village, Ebonyi State.

    They allegedly took the unnamed victim to Umuziaka village where they slaughtered him in the bush and thereafter, removed his private parts and other parts they needed.

    According to the police, Onwe named his accomplices as Blessing and Emeka, both men currently at large.

    “The exhibits were deposited at Apex Hospital morgue for preservation. The case has been transferred to State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation while efforts are being intensified to apprehend fleeing accomplices,” said Mohammed.

  • Teenager, seven others remanded for alleged cultism, assault

    A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered the remand in prison custody of 19-year-old Temple Udeme for alleged cultism and assault.

    Also remanded were Bassey Sampson, 23, Charles Earnest, 26, Godpower Joseph, 22, Lawrence Akpan, 28, Psalms Okorie, 24, Paul James, 26 and Francis Bassey, 21.

    The suspects are alleged to be members of a cult called ‘Icelanders’. They reportedly assaulted Nelson Earnest with a bottle, which caused him harm.

    They were charged with a four-count charge of secret cult involvement and assault.

    The charge was not read to them because the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter, hence they were not allowed to take any plea.

    Their legal representatives urged the court to release them on bail, but the court presided over by Chief Magistrate Sokari Andrew-Jaja refused, saying they should seek the bail of the defendants at the high court.

    He ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison custody.

    Prosecutor Inspector Wilson Isaiah alleged that the suspects got involved in secret cult activities and assaulted Nelson on October 31 about 11pm at Ozuboko Ama in Port Harcourt Local Government.

    According to him, their offences are punishable under Section 7 (c), 1 (2) of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities Prohibited Act No. 6 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 2004 and Section 355 and 209 (a) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Rivers State 1999.

    The case was adjourned till November 15 for mention.

  • Teenager who discovered site of crashed Air Force jet realizes ambition

    •Commissioned into Army as 2nd Lt

    DETIMBIR Chia was only 14 years old when he first hit the headlines across the globe 12 years ago.

    The day was September 17, 2006.

    The Benue born teenager  was on his father’s farm at   Mbakunu village, Shanger Ya district of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State tilling the ground  when he saw a plane fall from the sky into the hilly surrounding.

    He ran towards the scene to confirm what was really happening.

    Strewn across the wide area before him were bodies of the occupants of the ill-fated plane, their personal effects and what remained of the aircraft.

    One of his findings –a mobile phone belonging to one of the plane crash victims – would later prove valuable in finding answers to questions that began to agitate the mind.

    With it, he put a call through to his father who raced to the scene to join the young Chia.

    Meanwhile, the news was all over the air about the disappearance of the Dornier 228-212, 18 nautical miles from its destination, the Obudu Cattle Ranch hotel and conference centre in Cross River State.

    It was carrying 15 senior military officers and three crew members.

    The military officers were eight Major-Generals, two Brigadier-Generals, two Wing Commanders and one Lieutenant Colonel,

    Contact was immediately made with the relevant authorities who moved men and equipment to the scene, with Chia, his father and other villagers providing unusual assistance to reach the scene and evacuate the dead bodies and the survivors.

    And so was born a hero.

    The then Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant–General Patrick Owoye Azazi, now late, was so touched by Chia’s courage that he asked him about his ambition.

    Chia was straight to the point: a soldier.

    Azazi promised to help him secure admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for him to realize his ambition.

    Yesterday, Chia was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant after a-four year training, according to online publication, Premium Times.

    He was one of the 365 cadets commissioned.

    President Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the event by Vice President Yemi Oshinbajo who pledged federal government’s commitment to getting back all Nigerians abducted by terrorists.

    He said, “We are committed to ensuring the release of all the women and men held in captivity. Few days ago, Mr. President spoke personally to the anguished mother of Leah Sharibu; Christian girl who is the only one left as part of the Dapchi girls still in Boko Haram captivity. Mr. President assured her mother that she would be returned home safe.

    “And that commitment Mr President has made, is not just to her mother, but to also all the girls and young men who are still in Boko Haram captivity.

    “Today, all over the Northeast, our people are been provided with a chance to begin the urgent task of rebuilding their lives and livelihood.”
