The suspect, a pupil of St Joseph’s College, Ondo was accused of sodomising the eight-year-old son of a journalist.

Police spokesman Femi Joseph confirmed the arraignment while giving an update on the case.

He, however, did not give details of the charges, saying it was a case involving a minor, which was not always given public hearing.

Joseph said the arraignment was in fulfilment of the police’s promise to ensure justice.

He said: “The case has been filed with the presiding magistrate, who will get facts before knowing the charges to be preferred against Olamilekan. I am sure hearing will begin at the next adjourned date. It’s no longer in our hands.”

Betty Abah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CEE Hope, the non-government organisation that took up the case following a report by the victim’s father, Lanre Duyile, said the move was a relief to get justice for the victim.

She said: “The arrest and arraignment of the suspect by the police following our outcry and that of the public are commendable.

“The police have lived up to their expectation that they can be responsive and protect people.”

Abah advised the victim’s parents to resist pressure to withdraw the case.

Said she: “I’m aware that pressure is being mounted on the boy’s father by powerful individuals to withdraw the case. They should leave him alone. At a point, he ran away from home to live in a church, for fear of insecurity.

“Enough is enough. People, no matter how powerful, should be told that there are limits to their impunity, especially in a country and state governed by law and order.”

Abah urged the government, thorough the Ministry of Women Affairs, House of Assembly and other stakeholders to step in and ensure justice is done.

  • Teenager’s head slashed over ‘missing N16,000’

Teenager’s head slashed over ‘missing N16,000’

A 14-year-old boy, Michael Ehijator, suffered a cut on the head Monday after his mother, Jokotade Eshinlokun, allegedly hit him on the head with a stainless steel food flask.

Eshinlokun, a mother of five, allegedly hit Ehijator, her first son, after she couldn’t find her N16,000.

It was gathered that the incident happened in the wee hours of Monday at Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The Nation gathered that Eshinlokun, an online herbal products marketer, whose husband has been in Dubai in the past four years, returned home and couldn’t find the money.

She accused Ehijator of taking it, before hitting him with the food flask.

The case was brought to the attention of the Ikorodu Child Protection Network (CPN) office by the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC).

CPN’s Deputy Coordinator, Lateef Akinborode, told The Nation that a neighbour intervened and stopped the incident from escalating.

“The neighbour told us that it was until he accepted that he was the one who stole the money and promised to pay Eshinlokun the N16,000 that she left Michael alone. The neighbour thereafter reported the case to the Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

“When CPN visited the house, we discovered that Eshinlokun and her five children live in a partial single room self-contained apartment. Their living conditions were bad; they had no bed, no space and everywhere was tight. This was why we had to move them to an orphanage in Ikorodu. Her poor living condition must have led her to the action, because they were living in a three-bedroom flat but moved to the one room self-contained apartment in the last two months.”

A neighbour told The Nation that it was the first time something like that happened between the woman and her children.

“She has realised her mistake and the matter has been settled,” the neighbour added.

It was learnt that the case was later transferred to the Ikorodu Police Division.
