Military kills, arrests terrorists in Abuja suburb, says DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said its troops on fighting patrol have killed several terrorists and arrested others at Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

It said the troops also killed terrorists and violent extremists in Tafa Local Government of Niger State.

The Director Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, made this known yesterday while fielding questions from reporters during a briefing.

The Nation reports that residents of Garam Kuduru and neighbouring communities in Bwari Local Government have relocated due to persistent bandits’ attacks and kidnapping.

He said: “The aim of our ongoing operation remains unchanged; and it is to go after the terrorists wherever they may be hiding and destroy them.

“We believe that by destroying them, they will not be able to carry out terror against the citizens of this country and we will have a safer environment.

“From the reports we have concerning the FCT and its environs, as I speak to you, operations are still ongoing in those locations. In the last one week, we have arrested several of them and they are providing us with necessary information that will help us in our operations.”

On civilians’ casualties recorded during operations along Abuja-Kaduma Highway, Buba described them as an unfortunate incident that occurs during military operations all over the world.

He said: “What happened on January 6 on Kaduna-Abuja Highway was that the terrorists were crossing the road and they were effectively engaged by the troops. Unfortunately some civilians were caught up in the cross fire. These are complexities of war. And like I said, as a military, our aim is to go after them.

“What made them to cross, it is because we were going after them and they couldn’t remain where they were, so they have to move out. And in the process, we still have to engage them. We are in a situation of war. It is unfortunate that civilians were caught up in the cross fire. But we can’t leave the terrorists, we have to go after them and destroy them.”

The military chief also confirmed that terrorists were involved in mining in Zamfara State.

“On issue of Zamfara State, I want us to go back to our history books and find out what are the causes of war all over the world? Anywhere there is mineral deposit; people want to get that mineral. And to get that mineral, what do they do? They want to displace the communities there to get that mineral.

“So this happens all over the world. Ours is not different.”

He said the military would be more resolute in dealing with terrorists and other criminals this year.

  • Nasarawa: From investment hub to terrorists’ stomping ground

Nasarawa: From investment hub to terrorists’ stomping ground

Nasarawa State boasts more security formations that most states in the north. But in recent times, the state has recorded more security breaches than many others around it, LINUS OOTA reports.

Nnasararwa, the new investment hub of northern Nigeria has attracted several investors in recent times courtesy of the efforts of the state governor, Abdullahi Sule. The state holds a unique advantage of hosting many security formations including the police mobile training school in Ende Hills and the 123 Special Forces Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Doma Local Government Area of the state, among others.

Lately, the Sule administration has attracted the Dangote Sugar Refinery, Olarm Rice Farm and a flour mills and embarked on eight significant business environment reforms which have attracted over $500 million in both domestic and foreign investment into key sectors of the state economy.

Unfortunately, the state is virtually turning into an epicenter of banditory, kidnapping and terrorist attacks in recent times; a trend which if not properly tackled could scare investors.

The recent abduction of the executive chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, Hon Safiyanu Isa Andaha within the local government has left many residents of the state bewildered and left no one in doubt as to the escalating cases of insecurity in the state.

A day hardly passes without news of one kidnapped person or the other or attempted kidnapping in one part of the state or the other. With the media frequently awash with such stories, the phenomenon has assumed such a frightening dimension that some residents are even contemplating some means of securing themselves independent of the state.

Between 2022 and 2023, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Touris, Hon Yakubu Lawal, was kidnapped in his home in Nasarawa Eggon; the Executive Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, Hon Baba Shehu was also a victim of kidnapping; a permanent secretary in Government House, Mr Jibrin Giza, was kidnapped as well as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission, Muazu Ishaq. Large sums of money were allegedly paid for their release.

In the new year, the state has been in the news again for the wrong reasons. On new year day, for instance, the Executive Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of the state, Hon Safiyanu Isa Andaha, and his political godfather, Alhaji Adamu Umar Custom, were kidnapped around Ningo village in Akwanga. They were released only after they had spent a whole day in the bush with their abductors to whom the sum of N10m was allegedly paid as ramson as against the N50m they initially demanded.

The victims were freed by their abductors behind an obsolete filling station on Bayan Dutse Road on the outskirts of Andaha town. The chairman allegedly claimed that the kidnappers were “small small Fulani boys” turning them around the bush.

On Tuesday (January 2), four people were gunned down by armed robbers at a supermarket in a village in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State; a neighborhood town to Nyanya in Abuja FCT.

A witness told our correspondent that the attackers were terrorists who did not come to rob the supermarket or hurt its operators but to kill anybody who visited the supermarket at that particular time to buy some items.

The bloodletting terrorists stormed Wisdom Supermarket, located by the roadside in One Man village by the Abuja-Keffi Expressway, killing four customers. The incident, which occurred between 8:30pm and 9pm, was said to have taken security operators and local security men engaged by the supermarket as well as other neighboring shops unaware.

Up until the time of filing this report, the atmosphere at the area was tense as a lot of people were leaving in fear while most shops along the area did not open for fear of further attacks.

A resident within the area, Mr Abubakar Modi, who spoke with our correspondent, said he had just left the supermarket after buying some items and was about to board a keke (commercial tricycle) when he heard gunshots within the supermarket.

Modi said: “I couldn’t believe what I saw. My heart is still beating till now. The whole thing happened like a dream. They were actually terrorists. They were not coming to rob the supermarket; they were just coming to waste people’s lives.

“I leave in One Man Village, and in the past one year, we have been experiencing security challenges from one house to another or one shop to another. But this particular attack was one too shocking as nobody expected it.

“They took everyone by surprise, because it happenned while people were still moving around.”

Another witness, who identified himself simply as Mr Ibrahim, said he was standing opposite the shops and saw the whole operation. “They came in a vehicle, but they covered their faces heavily.

“Armed with guns, they walked into the supermarket and asked everybody to lie flat on the floor. They then shot at the four customers in the shop”.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Ranham Nansel, who confirmed the incident, said that investigation was ongoing.

According to him, “on receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, deployed the Divisional Police Officer of the New Karu division, which is close to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that four people were shot. They evacuated them to the hospital where the doctor confirmed them dead and they were deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police in turn deployed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the state criminal investigation department to the scene to carry out a comprehensive investigation.”

Speaking generally on the fear among the residents of the state, a retired permanent secretary, Amos Abu, said the current security situation in the state will portray the state in bad light.

“The governor is doing and has done a lot to attract investment to the state, which is his major achievement. But if the state is experiencing bad signals in terms of security, the investors might fold up.

“If you go to Lafia town now, especially along the polytechnic and Bukan Sidi area, people hardly sleep with their two eyes closed; it is one robbery incident after another. The criminals break into people’s houses to collect their handsets, money and other important belongings. They machete innocent citizens at will without any just reason.

“The rate of kidnapping in the state now is alarming. If a whole chief security officer of a local government is successfully kidnapped, then nobody is safe. If terrorists can go into a supermarket and kill innocent customers without hindrance and go scot free, them there is a big problem,

“Our major fear is that the plateau scenario might snowball into Nasarawa. Security of lives and property is no longer guaranteed. Nobody is safe and this development might scare investors from coming into Nasarawa State for development.

“The Governor has done enough interns of investment and infrastructural development, but once the security of lives and property is not guaranteed, those achievements cannot benefit the masses.”

A market women association leader, Mrs Amina Thomas, said “the continuous security breaches signify the failure of governance in all ramifications. Once government fails to protect the lives of its citizens, it means something is wrong.”

She explained further that Governor Sule has done a lot in terms of security, but the recurrence of these security breaches  clearly show that peace has eluded the state. It is either farmers/herders crisis or kidnapping by bandits and now terrorists killing people at will. The bizzare is going on despite Governor Abdullahi Sule’s efforts.

“Governor Sule has deployed military, police and other security agencies across the state. He provided them with all the support needed and their presence should ordinarily scare the criminals. But that is not the case.

“I am shocked that four innocent people can be wiped away in a minute by terrorists. We are all leaving in fear of the unknown,” she said.

While kidnappings and killings are not peculiar to Nasarawa State, the situation in the state is assuming some form of notoriety with security agencies seemingly helpless.

It was gathered that Governor Abdullahi Sule has done his best to secure the state against all forms of criminality, and his determination in this direction is not in doubt. The encouragement and support security agencies are getting from the state government have been remarkable, but the level of criminality in the state is increasing rather than decreasing.

Through the efforts of Governor Sule, Nasarawa State was able to secure high level security formations all aimed at curbing insecurity in the state. Some of the security formations include Mobile Training Barracks at Ende Hill in Nasarawa Eggon, Special Forces Army Barracks at Doma, Airforce Special Wing in Lafia, and new Mobile Police (MOPOL) unit in Agyaragu.

Others are the military task force unit at Toto, the MOPOL Special unit at Umaisha, the MOPOL unit at Akwanga and the Army base in Keffi.

But in spite of the presence of these security formations and the support from the state government, there is little to cheer. Admittedly, the  military task force at Toto has recorded some successes in dislodging criminals along that axis. But observers believe that more needs to be done to achieve relative security across the state.

A security expert, Mr Jerome Adams, said “the searchlight must at this juncture be focused on re-evaluating the operations of these security formations and other security apparatus in the state, else the state will lose the investors currently developing the state courtesy of Governor Sule.

“It beats my imagination that despite all the governor has done, there are still security breaches in Nasarawa State, culminating in kidnaping for ransom and killing of innocent citizens in a supermarket.

“Based on what is happening now, I suggest a total review of the security situation in the state. The governor needs to wake up and double his efforts to secure the state and the investment.

Governor Abdullahi Sule had in early November 2023, during an expanded security meeting over cases of insecurity in the state, revealed that Keffi and Karu local government areas, have continued to experience the influx of strange faces, suspected to be gangs of terrorists.

The expanded meeting, which was aimed at addressing security concerns, had head of security outfits, traditional rulers, heads of tertiary institutions in the state and chairmen of affected local governments in attendance.

Aside from fostering collaborative efforts for the safety of lives and property, the meeting shared insights and proposed innovative strategies to combat security challenges in the state.

Governor Sule said government was going to mobilise resources and to assemble experts as a measure for comprehensive and inclusive approach to tackling security challenges in the state, hence the expanded meeting with key stakeholders.

The governor said part of the reasons for convening the expanded security meeting was to deliberate on the unfolding regular attacks on farmers by suspected herders, with such attacks recorded in six local government areas, namely Nasarawa, Doma, Akwanga, Keana Obi and Awe.

He raised the alarm over the influx of strange faces, which is already generating tension particularly around Keffi Local Government Area.

“There is also, from what we have been able to gather, some level of influx of certain strangers that generate tension, especially around Keffi local government area

“And we also had the opportunity to discover some criminal hideouts at riverside in Karu local government area. We are also able to have information on the lodging of some suspected drug peddlers in certain hotels, as well as what they call sleeper cell in Nasarawa, Taraba, Kaduna, created by terrorist gangs,” Governor Sule said.

The governor, however, expressed willingness to fall back on the working relationship with traditional rulers towards ensuring security at the grassroots.

“Part of the reasons for this meeting is to appeal to traditional rulers to resume the engagement of the local vigilante groups like they did in the past, which has yielded positive results.

“We have relaxed on that, mostly on the part of government. We are going back to engage all those security groups to work with our people and security operatives,” he said

He commended security agencies operating in the state for maintaining peace, law and order during this difficult period, and the efforts put in place towards the rescue operations of several kidnapped victims in the state.

Terrorists kill six residents, abduct many motorists in Zamfara attacks

Six people were killed while one person was injured when terrorists attacked a Zamfara community on Tuesday night, residents said.

The attack took place in Nahuce, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack occurred a day after another gang of terrorists abducted an unknown number of motorists on the Gusau-Sokoto federal highway.

In the Nahuce attack, it was gathered that terrorists invaded the community some minutes to 11p.m. and began shooting indiscriminately.

“The attackers faced resistance from security agents in the town but six of our people lost their lives during the attack,” Abdulhadi Rabiu, a resident of Nahuce told this newspaper on Wednesday.

“If not for the security agents and vigilante group members, the number of casualties would have been more than that.”

The resident said the terrorists separated themselves into different areas of the town which made it difficult for security agents to arrest or kill any of them.

He, however, said the exchange of fire between them and security agents stopped them from killing or abducting more people.

“We’ve not heard of any case of abduction. Six people lost their lives while one person was injured. He is now at the hospital. The security agents did well because, in the end, the terrorists had to retreat,” Mr Rabiu said.

On Monday evening around 7:40 p.m., terrorists blocked the Gusau-Sokoto highway and abducted several motorists going to Gusau.

The attack occurred around Kwanar Sado, a few kilometres from Talata Mafara town.

Rabiatu Shehu, who narrowly escaped the attack, said that passengers from three vehicles were abducted by the terrorists.

“We were driving towards Gusau when suddenly a driver coming from Gusau waved and shouted at our driver to return. But we didn’t understand what he meant so we continued moving until when another vehicle also from the Gusau side alerted us to stop.

“We stopped there with other vehicles until a military vehicle came from Mafara and cleared the road but the passengers had already been taken. We waited for some minutes before continuing the journey. When we got to the spot, we saw three vehicles with all their doors opened,” Ms Shehu said.

A vigilante from Talata Mafara who spoke on condition of anonymity said some motorists had been warned not to ply the road in the evening.

“The terrorists were sighted around 04:00 p.m. returning from Sado where they attended the wedding ceremony of another terrorist but we didn’t think they’d stay around the area to launch the attack. Perhaps, they hid behind the two quarry sites in the area and waited for evening,” the vigilante said.

A chilling account of how communities were attacked in three local government areas of Plateau State was given on the floor of the Senate at the weekend.

Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) held the Red Chamber spellbound when he told his colleagues how almost 200 people were massacred by bandits.

According to him, the bandits deposited their arms at different points within the communities ahead of the attacks.

Ningi, chairman of the Northern Senators’ Caucus, said he got the details during his 72-hour visit to the state.

He met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and visited hospitalised victims in Jos, the state capital.

He said: “The stories I heard about the attacks were mind-boggling.”

“I was in Bauchi for my Christmas break when the news broke and instantly, on behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, I moved into the Plateau.

“I had two sessions with the governor. What happened in Bokkos was unprecedented. The attack was by a catchment of bandits, over 400 of them moving at a go. The stories I heard were mind-boggling.

“First, there was a rumour of this attack. Second, the governor tried to make this information available but they didn’t take him seriously.

“I was at JUTH (Jos University Teaching Hospital) and you could see a three-month-old with a gunshot wound. Three months! Some were beheaded. This is unprecedented…

“What was discovered is that these marauding bandits were not moving with weapons. Those weapons were domiciled in certain locations.

“All they did was to come and pick them. That means there’s something behind what is happening in Plateau.

“Who are these people and why are they doing it? Because if you go there, you would think it’s a religious war.

“There’s something behind it that this Senate must unearth. It’s a very terrible phenomenon.

“The National Assembly members are shown the way out after four years and we even have a recall item in the Constitution.

“If you cannot deliver, our constituents will be asked to recall us and every four years we also go for elections.

“We can’t keep doing all these things all the time and no results. This insecurity is pervading the entire Northern atmosphere.”

Ningi spoke while seconding a motion by Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central) on the Plateau mayhem.

The Senate ratified the motion with a resolution to summon the Service Chiefs.

Also to be invited are National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Magaji Bichi; Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

The Senate observed a minute silence and resolved to send a high-powered delegation to the state.

The Senate called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to direct its agencies and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide building materials to the victims with immediate effect to enable them to return home and decongest the IDP camps.

The Red Chamber also urged the IGP to complete the mobile police barracks in Barkin Ladi.

It urged the Chief of Defence Staff to establish a mobile military base in Kerang Village, in Mangu Local Government Area, which “is a border point and an entry route for the criminals who commit these barbaric acts and escape freely”.

The Senate further urged the military to deploy intelligence and aerial surveillance in the affected local government areas and their environs.

It also urged the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, “to immediately take action in putting a check on illegal miners and mining activities in the country, especially the crisis-prone regions.”

Additionally, the Senate urged the Plateau State Government to “strengthen its environmental mining laws to check the excesses of illegal miners in the state” as well as “to upscale dialogue between traditional and religious leaders, especially in the affected crisis areas, to find non-kinetic solutions towards curbing the crisis.”

It also resolved to issue such further directives as deemed expedient in the circumstance to ensure compliance with its resolutions.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the killings as a “very unfortunate, barbaric and terrible tragedy for Nigeria”.

He said it was “a black Christmas for the country because the level of killings was unprecedented and the number of villages affected simultaneously was also unprecedented”.

“It is very clear that these attacks were very well coordinated and therefore we believe there was failure of intelligence and failure of timely reaction and the Senate is taking this very seriously.”

Father, son, vigilante killed in fresh attack

Three persons were killed in the attack by assailants in Durbi village of Shere district, Jos East Local Government Area on Saturday night.

Transition Implementation Committee Chairman, Markus Nyam, said the attackers invaded the village and killed a father and his son.

Nyam also said a member of the vigilantes, who engaged the assailants, was killed as the attackers fled.

The Joint Security Task Force Operation Safe Haven personnel responded to the community’s distress call, preventing the attackers from causing more damage.

    COAS: arrests made

Lt-Gen. Lagbaja said some suspects in the Christmas Eve killings have been arrested and that security agencies are on the trail of others.

He led other Service chiefs on visits to the communities at the weekend.

Addressing members of one of the attacked villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Gen. Lagbaja said: “Some people have been arrested. We will not reveal their names now because the investigation is still ongoing.

“We are still on the trail of some other people. We desire to round up everybody involved in this carnage in line with the directive of Mr President to ensure lasting peace in Plateau.”

He said the Federal Government was working to ensure that all the displaced persons returned home and that the communities were provided adequate security.

“We need your support as a people. We need the cooperation of the people to help the troops to succeed. Help us with information, and provide support to these troops.

“We are working towards ensuring all the displaced return to their ancestral homes as quickly as possible. Accept our condolences and our assurance that going forward this will not occur again,” Gen. Lagbaja said.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, accompanied by his Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation counterpart, Betta Edu, told Governor Mutfwang that the visit was on the directive of President Tinubu.

He said: “We are here on the directive of the President to commiserate with you and assure you of total commitment toward securing the lives and property of the people.

“I want to assure you that this incident will not occur again; these criminals will be crushed soon.”

Matawalle assured the governor that the humanitarian needs of the victims would be addressed.

“This is why the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs joined this delegation; she is expected to ascertain the humanitarian needs of the people,” he said.

A traditional ruler, Edward Bitrus, said it was the “saddest Christmas in all my 70 years in life”.

“We have been living peacefully in our community. I then wonder what led to these killings.

“Our children may not resume schools in January because the economic bases of the families have been razed by the attackers.

“Our investment in dry season farming has become a waste because the owners of the farms have been killed or displaced.

“Government must fish out these attackers so that victims will get justice,” he said.

    Police deploy more men

Plateau Police Command said it has deployed more men to the troubled areas.

The spokesman, Alfred Alabo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said in a statement: “As part of measures to protect lives and properties in the affected areas, the Commissioner of Police, Okoro Alawari, has placed a ban on all forms of late-night spiritual and social gathering in Bokkos, Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Mangu Local Government Areas.”

Also, the Plateau State Tourism Corporation & organisers of the Jos Christmas Festival announced the cancellation of all remaining events at the Jos Christmas Festival.

    Terrorists’ kingpin Kachalla feared killed

There are strong indications that a notorious terrorists’ leader, Ali Kawaje alias Ali Kachalla, has been killed by the military.

Kachala was killed on Sunday during air strikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF’), near Mangoro in Munya Local Government of Niger State, according to a military source.

The source told The Nation yesterday that NAF aircraft under Operation Whirl Punch bombarded the terrorists after they had attacked a detachment of security operatives deployed in Mangoro community in Munya Local Government.

The source said: “Overhead the location, Kachalla and his foot soldiers were sighted withdrawing from the operatives’ location on 11 motorcycles, but unknown to them, they were being trailed to their hideout near Kopa Hills where they took cover under a thick tree covering.

“It was at that point that the air strikes were authorised, which were decisive and swift, thereby ensuring effective and maximum damage to the terrorists.”

Sources in Munya, who craved anonymity due to the security implication of this report, said several of the terrorists including the terrorists’ kingpin, Ali Kachalla, were eliminated as a result of the strike.

“The news of Kachalla’s death has already led to jubilation in Mangoro and surroundings with many indigenes praying for the same outcome on Dogo Gidei, whose notorious activities have continued to inflict unimaginable injuries on their well-being and livelihoods,” a source said.

Contacted, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, refused to comment on the development.

He said he was yet to receive any brief on the air strike.

The strike occurs barely 24 hours after the NAF confirmed the elimination of another deadly terrorist kingpin, Yellow Jambros.

The air strikes launched by the Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch on Wednesday, December 6, was part of military ouslaught against terrorists and bandits in the area.

NAF’s spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, December 10.

Gabkwet said the terrorists met their end while attempting to cross Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District, heading towards Wurukuvhi axis of Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

He said: “Prior to the strike, Yellow Jambro and his cohorts were trailed from Zamfara State into Niger State riding 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border, precisely heading towards Kusasu in Shiroro local government area of Niger State.

“At Kusasu, 5 other motorcycle-riding terrorists joined Yellow Jambros’ convoy, bringing the total number of motorcycles to 18, which then headed to the bank of River Jikudun.

“At the river bank, the terrorists and their 18 motorcycles boarded a large motor-powered canoe in an attempt to cross and link up with other terrorists across the river. It was at this point that the authorization to undertake a strike was given.

“The precision strike was adjudged effective as it neutralized Yellow Jambros and his colleagues, destroyed their motorcycles and sank the boat.”

According to NAF’s spokesperson, it was unusual for terrorists riding in a convoy of 18 motorcycles to travel in broad daylight.

He said: “It was apparent that Yellow Jambros and his cohorts had assumed that air strikes were suspended following the unfortunate incident at Tudun Biri in Kaduna State and wanted to exploit the perceived window of opportunity.”

“Yellow Jambros and his cohort have been responsible for several kidnappings and killings along the Abuja-Kaduna Road and in several communities in Kaduna, Niger, Katsina and Zamfara states.”

    • By Musa Bologi, Abuja

Air strikes by the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) fighter jets killed several terrorists and destroyed four gun trucks in Ajigin and Banki Junction areas, Borno State.

The air strikes also destroyed terrorists’ enclaves situated 1.9km South of Ajigin.

NAF’s spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said this in a statement yesterday.

Gabkwet said the terrorists had hidden four gun-trucks under thick shrubs and earlier perfected plans to attack military locations around Damboa and Wajiroko.

He said: “During the air strike conducted on November 8, three of the gun-trucks were struck, as evidenced by the thick black smoke and fire from the trucks after the strike, while the last gun-truck was observed fleeing the scene of the strike.

“The truck was subsequently tailed for about 26km and thereafter disappeared under a tree. The truck was subsequently struck and observed to be on fire with no sign of movement at the location.

“The destruction of the four gun trucks, along with the occupants, effectively degraded the capability of the terrorists to attack friendly forces and locals within the area.”

Gabkwet added that air interdiction missions were also conducted at a location 7km East of Banki Junction on November 11. According to him, the location was a well-known terrorists’ enclave hitherto deserted, but suddenly active with high terrorists’ activities and used as a logistics storage area and staging area to attack troops’ locations at Bank Junction.

“The need to attack the location thus became necessary. Accordingly, NAF aircraft were scrambled to interdict the location. The aftermath of the strike revealed the destruction of the location with the logistics sites on fire,” Gabkwet said.
