Group unveils national agenda for Tinubu 2027

    • …says Tinubu’s reforms need time, stability

A group of prominent Nigerians drawn from across the six geopolitical zones, the Federal Capital Territory, and the Diaspora has unveiled the National Agenda for Tinubu 2027 (NAFT.27), a nationwide civic movement aimed at consolidating and advancing the reform programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Unveiled in Abuja on Sunday, the platform is positioned as a non-ethnic, non-religious national enlightenment and solidarity movement designed to articulate, safeguard, and promote what it describes as the verifiable gains of the Tinubu administration after 32 months in office under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

With the theme “Managing the Verifiable Gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 32 Months in Office, as Evidenced by the Democratic Scorecard of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” NAFT.27 said it would serve as a broad-based civic and intellectual-property think tank, focused on deepening public understanding of governance reforms and mobilising elected officials at the federal, state and local government levels to consolidate policy outcomes.

The group said its intervention became necessary amid persistent misinformation, public scepticism and heightened political contestation around ongoing economic and institutional reforms.

At its core, NAFT.27 said it seeks to systematically document and defend the achievements of the Tinubu administration, particularly in the areas of policy reform, institutional rebuilding, economic recalibration and democratic consolidation across ministries, departments and agencies.

Addressing journalists during the unveiling, National Convener of NAFT.27, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim, MFR, described the movement as a strategic civic response to what he called the need to properly contextualise governance performance in light of the “severe economic and institutional challenges” inherited by the administration in 2023.

According to him, NAFT.27 represents a new approach in Nigeria’s democratic evolution, aimed at reshaping how citizens engage with governance by countering emotional biases, entrenched stereotypes and deliberate misinformation.

“This is about helping Nigerians understand governance beyond headlines and sentiment, and anchoring public debate on facts, data and policy outcomes,” Ibrahim said.

He disclosed that the movement would embark on nationwide engagements across the six geopolitical zones ahead of the next electoral cycle, beginning with a detailed scorecard of President Tinubu’s administration, followed by assessments of APC-led state governments and local government councils.

The engagements, he said, would focus on policy explanation, reform advocacy, misinformation management, and national cohesion, in alignment with the development objectives of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

NAFT.27 also emphasized that Nigeria is at a critical juncture, where policy consistency and reform consolidation are more important than abrupt political reversals. It noted that many of the ongoing reforms require time, stability, and informed public support to yield tangible democratic dividends.

The movement was first publicly announced in May 2025 at a reception held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Abuja Continental Hotel in honour of former APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, PhD, who serves as the Grand Patron of the group.

NAFT.27 reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, saying the joint ticket has continued to resist divisive narratives rooted in ethnic, religious and cultural fault lines.

As the federal government grapples with rural poverty and urban hardship, the group said the administration remains committed to improving the basic and felt needs of Nigerians through deliberate, people-centred policies.

“Renewed Hope is a journey, not an event,” the group declared, urging Nigerians—especially young people—to remain patient, engaged and discerning as reforms mature into a more stable, inclusive and progressive society.

Why northerners should reelect Tinubu in 2027 -PEM

The Public Enlightenment Movement (PEM) has highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s projects in the north and the key gains for the region, which is why northerners should re-elect him in the 2027 general election.

PEM Coordinator, Nuhu Abdullahi, who addressed reporters, said the group was reflecting on the “real and tangible progress” that has taken place in the region under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu in the last two years under review.

The conference was held at Comfort Hub Hotel, Kano, featuring Kannywood actors and actresses, social media influencers and celebrities.

Abdullahi commended President Tinubu for what he described as “real and measurable progress” in Northern Nigeria since the beginning of the administration.

He said the group’s mission was to inform citizens about the Federal Government’s efforts in the region and to counter misinformation.

“This is not about politics. We are here to talk about facts and what the people can see with their eyes. ‘Seeing is believing,’ and progress is taking place here (north), and we need to recognise it,” he stressed.

The PEM coordinator listed several key federal projects across the North that have seen significant progress.

Among them are: The Kano-Kaduna Railway, which was at 15% under the previous administration, now stands at 53% completion. The AKK Gas Pipeline now 83% complete, a leap from minimal work previously.

The Kano-Maradi Railway has moved from 5% to 60%, with the potential to open up trade with Niger Republic.

“The newly established NELFUND education loan scheme benefitted by over 500,000 Nigerians.

“The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway that has seen 140km under construction in the first phase; Renewed Hope Housing Estates are underway, while food prices have reduced; and don’t forget that security in the North has also improved under Tinubu’s leadership,” he said.

Abdullahi also announced a second phase of federal projects that the group will be tracking and promoting as part of its enlightenment campaign. These include:

Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway; Kano and Kaduna Light Rail Projects; Akwanga–Jos–Gombe–Bauchi Road (439km); Sokoto–Zaria Dual Carriageway (275km, N824bn); and BUA Tax Credit Road (256km across Jigawa, Katsina, Kano).

Others are Zaria-Hunkuyi Road, Kano Northern Bypass, Kano-Maiduguri Road; NASENI innovation centre in Kano; 9th Mile–Otukpo–Makurdi Road Dualization (250km); and the Livestock RUGA project in Plateau, among others.

He pointed out that the creation of the Ministry of Livestock is a key policy step to revive the animal husbandry sector in Northern Nigeria.

Abdullahi urged the public to pay attention to ongoing changes rather than be swayed by political sentiments.

He noted: “Let us support what is working, not who is in power. Northern Nigeria is witnessing real development, and we owe it to ourselves to see it, understand it, and build on it.”

Highlight of the event was the commentary and video play of the documentary on President Tinubu’s projects and levels of completion across the north.

PEM is a non-governmental initiative focused on promoting civic education and awareness of federal development in the North.

    • Kwankwaso open to talks

    • President not to blame for nation’s woes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is good enough and will win re-election in 2027, House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin, said last night.

The lawmaker, representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency Kano on the platform of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), spoke on national television.

According to him, it is unfair and incorrect to blame the President for the nation’s woes, saying Tinubu has performed creditably.

He denied insinuation that the North is against the President’s re-election, saying it is dis-ingenious to say northerners won’t vote for him.

JIbrin, a fourth time Rep previously elected on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says NNPP leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is open to alliance talks with President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.

He said: “I believe I cannot see anything that will stop him from winning the elections in 2027.

“There’s no two ways about it. I am a Tinubu person. I like him and he likes me. Irrespective of party affiliation, it has been a great relationship.”

On why he came out to declare his support for Tinubu ahead of the presidential election in 2023, the Kano lawmaker said he does not see anybody winning the election other than Tinubu.

He said: “I do not see anybody winning the presidential election, except Tinubu in 2027.

When asked if this meant he would choose Tinubu over the NNPP leader (Kwankwaso) in the next election, Jibrin clarified: “No, I’d choose Kwankwaso and Bola Tinubu to work together, but Tinubu as President.”

Jibrin, a staunch Tinubu supporter, served as director-general of the Bola Tinubu Support Group (TSG) before defecting to the NNPP in May 2022.

He had cited internal party disputes as his reason for leaving the APC, later pledging allegiance to Kwankwaso.

However, his recent political engagements, including two visits to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa this year, have fuelled speculations about possible realignments.

On the likelihood of Kwankwaso joining the APC, Jibrin said the South should complete eight years in power.

The lawmaker said: “As far as (joining APC) is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility.

“I actually believe that the South should finish the remaining four years,” he added.

Jibrin, who dismissed claims the North had “been shortchanged” in the power equation, argued that the North had enjoyed power longer than the South since Independence in 1960.

He stressed that the region must “tell itself the truth” and stop working against its leaders.

The lawmaker’s comments came in the wake of debates on zoning arrangements and coalition moves ahead of the general election.

On the agitation over shortchanging the North, the lawmaker said: “I feel terribly embarrassed when knowledgeable northerners of high standing in the society say the North has been shortchanged in terms of rotation of power.

“No, the North has not been shortchanged.  The North has had power for 39 and half years, the South has 28 years. Nigeria started in 1960.  It is absurd to be counting from 1999.

“It is unfair and an insult to the former Heads of State when a northerner goes to national television to say Nigeria started from 1999.

“Gen. Yakubu Gowon was Head of State for nine years. Shehu Shagari (four years); Muhammadu Buhari (two years as military Head of State); Gen. Ibrahim Babaginda, eight years; Gen. Sani Abacha (five years); Musa Yar’Adua (three years) and Buhari (eight years as elected President).

“Do we recognise Babaginda as a former President, yes, we do. Do we recognise Abacha as a former Head of State, yes we do. Do we recognise Buhari as former Head of State and President, yes, we do.  This has never been in contention in this country.

“I don’t think that it’s fair for northerners to be claiming any right to the presidency.”

The NNPP chief said this is why he concluded that Tinubu will win in 2027.

On the choice of Vice President Kashim Shettima as running mate to the President in 2027, the lawmaker said it will be in order to retain him, otherwise it would open up another round of controversies, such as the Muslim/Muslim ticket, which zone in the North should have the slot, among others.

He expressed disgust that Nigerians always lament the situation of things in the country during every government.

He advocated cohesion and consensus among Nigerians and for them to rally round the government in power for progress.

According to him, the President’s declaration that the revenue target for the year has been met in August is a good omen for the economy.

He added that by no longer borrowing from the domestic market, funds will be freed for banks to lend to the real sector which, in turn, will lead to more production and productivity.

2027: South-east group donates N200m for Tinubu’s presidential form, campaign activities

A political support group, South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA), has presented a N200 million cheque to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. The fund is earmarked for the purchase of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination form and other campaign logistics.

The announcement was made in Owerri, Imo State, on Saturday during the inauguration and empowerment programme of the state chapter of SERHA.

National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Amb. Belusochukwu M. Enwere, said the move affirms the group’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and grassroots mobilization across the South-East.

“As ambassadors of Renewed Hope, we are committed to working towards the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027,” Enwere declared.

“Today, we demonstrate this commitment by presenting a cheque of N200 million for the nomination form and campaign logistics.”

Enwere described President Tinubu as a “performing leader” who has focused on infrastructure, education, and inclusive governance.

He highlighted the $3 billion Eastern Rail Line project as a landmark federal investment aimed at boosting regional connectivity, reducing transport costs, and addressing long-standing infrastructural neglect in the South-East.

The group also praised the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which is expected to drive regional development through erosion control, road construction, and other economic projects.

Enwere commended notable figures from Imo State, including the late Chief Sam Mbakwe and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, and lauded Governor Hope Uzodinma for implementing developmental initiatives under his 3R Agenda.

As part of its empowerment drive, SERHA distributed items such as motorcycles, mini buses, sewing machines, hairdressing kits, and cash to local residents to encourage self-reliance.

The Owerri event concluded SERHA’s South-East tour, with the group set to begin visits to all 95 local government areas and 2,344 wards across the region in August to mobilize support for President Tinubu.

“This is Southern Nigeria’s turn to complete our eight years. The South-East will not relent in ensuring Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Enwere stated.

The event drew political stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters from across the region, underscoring the growing momentum behind Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in the South-East.

2027: We’ll ensure Tinubu gets one million votes in Ondo, says group

    …begins grassroots mobilisation

The Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), a political movement within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vowed to rally “one million votes” in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a strategic meeting of AMG leaders from all 18 local government areas of Ondo State, the group’s director general, Asagunla Olumuyiwa, affirmed the group’s readiness to secure at least 90% of the total votes in the state for President Tinubu.

According to Olumuyiwa, the group was founded by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, with the sole aim of mobilising support to ensure Tinubu’s overwhelming victory in Ondo State.

He emphasised that the appointments of the two indigenes of the state, Tunji-Ojo and Ayodele Olawande, the minister of youth development, into key ministerial positions by the president deserved to be reciprocated through the ballot box.

“We believe the President’s gesture deserves nothing less than our full support. That is why we are working tirelessly across all 18 LGAs to deliver massive, nothing less than one million votes,” Olumuyiwa said.

He noted that AMG, inaugurated in March 2004, now has over 9,000 active members and has solid structures in place from the state to ward levels.

“All our structures have been intact from the state executive to the LG and ward coordinators. Since November last year, all our LGA coordinators have been inaugurated, and the wards will follow shortly.”

Also speaking, Otitoju Atikase, the Ondo State representative on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), described AMG as a major political mobilisation force for the APC.

Atikase reiterated that the group is committed to securing 90% of the votes in the presidential election, leveraging the achievements of the current administration and the local impact of federal appointments.

“AMG was birthed by Hon. Tunji-Ojo to penetrate the grassroots and mobilise extensively for President Tinubu’s reelection,” he said.

He pointed to the APC’s clean sweep of the last local government and state assembly elections in Ondo as evidence of the party’s strength and readiness.

“Now that our sons are in the president’s cabinet and performing excellently, it’s time for us to say thank you with our votes. That’s why this mobilisation is critical.”

Atikase further praised President Tinubu’s infrastructural projects across the country, particularly highlighting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the dualization of the Ore-Ondo road.

“These are not just roads, they are lifelines that will transform our economy and save lives,” he added.

  • 2027: Disjointed opposition will only further solidify Tinubu’s chances

2027: Disjointed opposition will only further solidify Tinubu’s chances

That there is a cloud of confusion over the future of the opposition being championed by the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai should not be a surprise to any close watcher of Nigerian politics.

Let’s briefly see what their boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, thinks of the two lodestars.

In MY WATCH, Obasanjo wrote about Atiku, inter alia, as follows:”What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time,a propensity for poor judgment,  his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety truth and national interest for self and selfish interest”.

And of El Rufai, the former President wrote:

“Very early in my interaction with him, I appreciated his talent. At the same time, I recognised his weaknesses; the worst being his inability to be loyal to anybody or any issue consistently for long, but only to Nasir el-Rufai.

He lied brazenly, which he did to me, against his colleagues and so-called friends…”.

Can Nigerians then seriously expect anything worthwhile  from these two gentlemen?

But then a serious and responsible opposition is a sine qua non in a democracy.

Because of that, and for the sake of Nigeria, this piece will not only show a true picture of what currenty goes for opposition in Nigeria, but also indicate what manner of opposition is required.

The Nigerian political landscape is marked by a complex web of alliances, rivalries, and power struggle. With the emergence of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the opposition has found itself at the crossroads. A disjointed opposition, characterized by infighting, lack of cohesion, and unclear ideological direction, can only further solidify Tinubu’s chances of consolidating power.

One of the primary challenges facing the opposition is the lack of a unified front. With multiple parties and factions vying for influence, the opposition has struggled to present a cohesive message and challenge the present administration effectively. This disunity has allowed Tinubu to exploit the divisions and capitalise on their weaknesses.

Another factor contributing to the opposition’s disjointedness is the absence of a clear ideological direction. Many opposition parties and leaders seem more focused on personal ambition and power struggle than on articulating a distinct vision for the country.

This lack of ideological clarity makes it difficult for the opposition to differentiate itself from Tinubu’s administration and mobilise support from the masses.

READ ALSO: Again, the Fubara-Wike rapprochement

Furthermore, the opposition’s internal conflicts and power struggle have led to a lack of effective leadership. With multiple leaders vying for prominence, the opposition has struggled to present a unified and compelling narrative that can challenge the present administration. This leadership vacuum has allowed President Tinubu to dictate the terms of the debate and shape the national agenda.

The disjointed nature of the opposition has also made it easier for the administration to co-opt and neutralise potential challengers.

Moreover, the opposition’s failure to engage in effective grassroots mobilisation has limited its ability to build a broad-based movement that can challenge the incumbent.

By focusing on elite-level politics and neglecting the needs and concerns of ordinary Nigerians beyond ‘ebi n pa wa’, the opposition has ceded the initiative to the President who has been able to use state resources and machinery to consolidate power.

The consequences of a disjointed opposition are far-reaching. Without a united and effective opposition, the administration may feel emboldened to push through its agenda without adequate checks and balances. This could lead to an erosion of democratic institutions, human rights abuses, and policies that favor the ruling party’s interests over those of the broader population.

In addition, a disjointed opposition may struggle to hold the administration accountable for its actions. Without a strong and united opposition, there may be limited scrutiny of government policies and decisions, allowing corruption and inefficiency to thrive.

To change this narrative, the opposition needs to undergo a fundamental transformation.

This requires a renewed focus on building a united front, articulating a clear ideological direction, and engaging in effective grassroots mobilization.

But a coterie of atiku, El Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi etc has been unable to do this because they all must be President, or Vice President, even those who have contested for more than five times just because Marabouts said so.

A serious opposition must prioritise leadership development, identify and support leaders who can inspire and mobilise the masses.

Also opposition needs to rethink its strategy and tactics.  This requires engaging with ordinary Nigerians, listening to their concerns, and developing policies that address their needs.

Ultimately, the fate of Nigeria’s democracy depends on the ability of the opposition to regroup, recharge, and present a united front.

By doing so, the opposition can ensure that power is held accountable, democratic institutions are strengthened, and the interests of all Nigerians are represented even if it won’t win elections yet. If the opposition fails to rise to this challenge, it will only solidify President Tinubu’s chances and make his re- election a walk in the park which an election in a democracy should, ordinarily, not be.

  • ‘What President Tinubu should do with economy before 2027’

‘What President Tinubu should do with economy before 2027’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs to re-energise government policies to consolidate gains in security, ease living costs, and scale up investments in critical sectors.

These are the highlights of a cross-survey of economists, finance and investment experts, investors and public policy analysts undertaken by The Nation.

President Tinubu yesterday marked the second anniversary of his administration.

There were positive reviews of his policies.

Experts, however, said the Tinubu Administration needs to move more decisively and deal with insecurity as a major prong to achieving food security, reducing inflationary pressure and enhancing foreign and domestic investments in the next two years.

They called for a more aggressive and coordinated fiscal approach to tackling inflationary pressure, reducing high interest rates and lowering foreign exchange (forex) rates.

While acknowledging substantial progress in monetary management, experts said the next two years should see stronger congruence between the fiscal and monetary authorities.

Those who spoke yesterday include Chairman, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), Mr. Niyi Yusuf; Director General, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Segun Ajayi-Kadir; and Chief Executive Officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), Dr. Muda Yusuf.

Others are Managing Director, Arthur Steven Asset Management, Mr Olatunde Amolegbe; President, Association for the Advancement of Rights of Nigerian Shareholders (AARNS), Dr Faruk Umar; and Managing Director, Highcap Securities, Mr David Adonri.

The NESG said the Tinubu Administration had stabilised the economy with its major reforms in the past two years and must move quickly now to widen the benefits of such reforms into inclusive growth and development.

According to the NESG, the removal of fuel and forex subsidies, ongoing major infrastructure works and consumer credit schemes, amongst others, were tough but necessary foundational reforms, which should foster economic recovery.

“But more attention needs to be paid to rapidly increase the social safety and transfers to cover tens of millions of poor citizens, tame inflation, improve availability and access to electricity supply, security of lives and properties, streamline taxes and regulations to support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and drive jobs creation for the teeming youth,” Yusuf said.

According to him, NNPCL’s commitment to increasing oil production to 2.0 million barrels per day (mbpd) to generate more revenue must be prioritised while export-oriented businesses must be supported by relevant agencies of government to further improve trade position, reserves and balance of payment.

The NESG Chairman said: “Savings from the removal of subsidies on forex, fuel and electricity should be channelled by federal, state and local governments into investments in education, health and food production.”

Dr. Muda Yusuf called on the President to remain focused on his reforms, shun political distractions and accelerate policy formulation and implementation in the overall interest of the economy.

According to him, as the country has started seeing some positive outcomes from the reforms of the past two years, there should be less political distraction, especially now that electioneering activities seem to be gradually gathering momentum.

“We need to build on the current macroeconomic stability that we have achieved so that we don’t see the sliding back or retrogression of the progress that has been made as far as the stability of the macroeconomic environment is concerned.

“A major issue that is of concern to the citizens, especially within the context of the present reform, is the cost of living challenge, particularly from the point of view of the segments of society.

“So in the next few years, we need to see some deliberate policies across all policy instruments.

“Our monetary policy, fiscal policy, trade policy, and tax policy instruments should be calibrated in a way that ensures that we tackle the problem of the cost of living, especially concerning the basic needs of the average Nigerian.

“I’m talking about basic things like staple food, like healthcare, pharmaceutical products, education, transportation costs, and the like; ensuring that those basic things are affordable and we moderate the level of inflation on those things. They are very, very critical.

“Even within the political space, we need to make the economic progress as inclusive as it can be. And the way to make it inclusive is to ensure that we address the cost-of-living crisis that we are dealing with at the moment.

“It’s also important to ensure that we strengthen the coordination between fiscal and monetary policy.

“We must pursue fiscal consolidation, minimise the level of deficits and our debt exposure, because the debt situation presently is also of concern,” Yusuf said.

He stressed the need for the government to ensure debt sustainability by reviewing its expenditures properly and optimising revenue.

According to him, the tax reform policies and measures would help to promote the ideals of fiscal consolidation in a way that will ensure that the country minimises deficits and enhances fiscal sustainability.

Ajayi-Kadir called on the government to fast-track the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, which is targeted for completion in 2025 and is poised to add 3.6 gigawatts (GW) to the national power supply.

“This boost could reduce the current reliance on diesel generators among manufacturers and improve capacity utilisation,” Ajayi-Kadir said.

He underscored the need for more effective engagement and inclusion of relevant stakeholders in policy processes, noting that the primary responsibility of the government is creating an enabling environment to unlock the potential of the economy.

He urged the government to urgently consider adopting a comprehensive industrial policy.

He said: “A nation without a clear industrial policy is like a ship without a rudder.

“We must adopt a comprehensive policy framework that guides our industrial development, fosters growth and propels us towards a brighter economic future.”

He commended the federal lawmakers for the passage of the four tax reform bills and the pronouncement of the Nigeria First policy, noting that the nation anxiously awaits the expedited consummation of these initiatives and their effective implementation.

Umar said President Tinubu should enhance the government’s capital raising through project-tied issuances that could help increase the pace of the nation’s infrastructural development.

He noted that the domestic capital market has demonstrated the depth to drive the nation’s economic development, urging the government to deepen its engagement with the market.

“There are still a lot of untapped opportunities in the capital market for the government and I think the next two years should see the capital market playing more critical roles in bridging the infrastructure gap and democratising the nation’s wealth creation across the strata of the populace,” Umar, who sits on the boards of several companies, said.

Amolegbe said easing the cost of living crisis caused by the policy reforms initiated by the government would be crucial going forward.

“This means getting a handle on inflation by tackling both the monetary and structural issues contributing towards increasing the inflation rate in the short run, such as elevated exchange rate, high interest rate, as well as pervasive insecurity that is hampering food production and supply.

“In the medium to long term, continuous investments in infrastructure to improve transportation, energy supply, education and health should be stepped up in order to lay a solid foundation for economic growth,” Amolegbe, a former President of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), said.

Adonri pointed out that due to the state of the economy, monetary policy is still in emergency mode, considering the extraordinarily high monetary parameters.

According to him, for monetary policy to normalise, the inflation rate needs to decline to single digits.

He said: “The attack on inflation now needs to be addressed from structural perspectives through administrative actions and fiscal policy.

“For the yawning supply gap fueling inflation to be bridged, structural deficiencies in security must be addressed by restructuring the architecture properly.

“Gaps in the engineering infrastructure of the economy, which is the bedrock for production, must be addressed.

    “Population growth must be controlled.

“Capital formation must be directed towards critically strategic industries required for the domestication of the economy.

    “Balanced budgeting must be adopted.”

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule yesterday declared that the North would not waver in its support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The North, the governor insisted, would not pander to the whims and caprices of a few who want to equate their personal interest with that of the majority of the people of the region.

Governor Sule spoke on a day the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said Tinubu would be re-elected comfortably regardless of “the volume of armchair theories and political conspiracies” by opponents.

The President’s performance ‘will clear the path,” Dare said.

Speaking at the 2025 Nzeh Mada Festival in Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state yesterday, Gov. Sule said it had become imperative for the North to work towards the actualisation of Tinubu’s return in 2027.

According to him, supporting the President’s re-election would be a fulfillment of the promise the region’s leaders made ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Sule, who doubles as Chairman, North Central Governors Forum, said the North is not known for reneging on its promise.

He urged North’s stakeholders to disregard the agitation of a few politicians who are bent on causing confusion in the polity on account of their failed personal ambition.

He said the same politicians were among the region’s leaders who sold Tinubu’s candidacy to the people in 2023.

He said: “Some politicians will always create confusion if they fail to get what they want or achieve their targets.

“As a junior governor then, some of the older governors told us that the best person for the presidency was Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“They told us Tinubu can transform Nigeria the same way he made Lagos an epicenter of business and commerce.

“It was a challenging period but we worked hard to bring Tinubu into office.

“Today, the same people, because they couldn’t get what they were looking for, are criticising Tinubu; that he is the worst President Nigeria has ever produced.

“Well, whether he is the good, the bad or the ugly, by the grace of God, we are bringing back Bola Ahmed Tinubu to continue as president of Nigeria.”

He said the North made a firm commitment that having been in the presidency for eight years, the South should have its turn.

“So, we cannot do the contrary. We cannot say something today and say another tomorrow.

“So, we have to be patient and support the President to do his eight years in office,” he noted.

Only last Wednesday, prominent members of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) pledged their support for the Tinubu administration and its policies.

They also pledged loyalty to the APC.

Former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the only elected CPC governor; former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari, who was House of Representatives Speaker, and Minister of Education in the Muhammadu Buhari Administration, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, signed a communiqué after a meeting of the CPC bloc, along with 20 others.

It was in reaction to the switch by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, a member of the CPC bloc, to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) last month.

Similarly, the North Central Renaissance Movement (NCRM) has expressed support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.

Chairperson of the movement, Prof. Nghargbu K’tso, during a visit to Governor Sule in Lafia on Friday, also advocated that the North Central Zone should produce the President after 2027.

He said the zone has suffered marginalization since the country’s independence.

According to him, only the North Central geopolitical zone is yet to produce a democratic president since Nigeria got her independence about 65 years ago.

Tinubu will win comfortably in 2027, says Dare

Dare said on his X account @SundayDareSD yesterday that Tinubu has performed well so far  to deserve re-election.

He was reacting to the Friday interview by the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed on Arise Television.

Baba-Ahmed had claimed that he did not see the President getting re-elected because, according to him, Nigerians would demand a shift towards true democracy by 2027.

Dare dismissed Baba Ahmed’s remarks as illogical and lacking substance.

His words: “Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed’s ‘illogical logic’ was all over the place in his recent interview with a television channel. He peddled arguments that were flawed, devoid of reason and empty.

“He must have as well dropped from space, going by what he spewed out during the interview.

“Listening to Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed spurn his postulations about the political future of Nigeria and that of the incumbent President is like listening to the new year predictions of charlatan ‘prophets’ which never come true.

“Yusuf Baba Ahmed and his co-traveller Peter Obi are indeed a ‘double whammy’ in the Nigerian political space.

“If listening to a Peter Obi interview was a punishment, listening to Baba-Ahmed, his defunct running mate, is a torment.

“His political logic is not fit for even a first-year Political Science class, and even then, they will query his postulations.

“He chose to base his political calculations on President Bola Tinubu not winning a second term given his antecedents and because Nigerians will decide at the polls among other things.

“He conveniently avoided the substance of performance and capacity.

“Unfortunately, he chose to walk into a lane he was unfamiliar with and chose to confront a politician he is no match for.

“If theories could fly, Yusuf Baba Ahmed and all the other Presidential Wannabes (PW) could have become President since.

“But Politics is not for theorists or the faint hearted nor the parochial.

“Politics is for those with a solid track record of performance, the courageous, far-sighted and gifted. Qualities he clearly lacks.

“Another thing Baba Ahmed lacks is the capacity for honesty, because that is the only way to describe his claim that President Tinubu is not fulfilling his campaign promises.

“The positive impacts of the tough choices the President Tinubu has made in the interest of the country are already being felt, and the economic indices are there to prove this.

“Even the IMF recently acknowledged – ‘Tinubu’s Reforms have put the economy in a better position to navigate this external environment’ – Schimmelpfennig.

“In 2027, Baba Ahmed and the other PWs will need all the marines available to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who in about two years has demonstrated his capacity to govern and to re-engineer Nigeria in a way hitherto unknown.

“Tinubu will win comfortably in 2027, no matter the volume of armchair theories and political conspiracies. His performance will clear the path.

“So, instead of running the circuit of television networks to peddle his poorly thought-out conjectures, Baba Ahmed should seriously consider how to rehabilitate his failed political career; an intervention he urgently needs.

“And if Datti Baba-Ahmed is smart, he will simply keep quiet and leave politics for those equipped for that complicated art.”

Labour Party dissociates self from Baba-Ahmed’s statement

A faction of the Labour Party condemned Baba-Ahmed’s description of the Tinubu’s government as ‘questionably constitutional’.

National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, said in Kaduna that the party viewed the comment as undemocratic and capable of inciting Nigerians against the government.

Abayomi said that the LP approached the 2023 general election with all determination to make a difference in the way Nigeria is run, and sponsored candidates it believed at the time had the capacity to win elections for the party.

He said the result of that Presidential election declared didn’t go its way and the party challenged the result up to the Supreme Court and lost.

“For the interest and peace of the nation, the Labour Party accepted the judgment of the Supreme Court, not because we were pleased but because of the FINALITY of the Supreme Court’s judgment.

“The party has since moved on,” he said.

Abayomi spoke of LP’s shock at Baba Ahmed’s reference to the 2023 presidential election at a meeting in Abuja as ‘questionably constitutional’ even with the legitimacy conferred on the Tinubu government by the Supreme Court.

He said:”For us in the Labour Party, this statement is clearly inciting and a call for mass action against a constituted authority.

“We think there should be a limit to whipping up public sentiments against a legitimate government.

“The Arab Spring that rattled the entire Middle East started when the Arab leaders paid no attention to Bouazizi’s subtle but persistent galvanisation of the youths against their governments, leading into the mass demonstrations, revolts and revolutions that almost consumed the region.

“Recall that Baba-Ahmed while refusing to concede victory in the 2023 presidential election also alleged that the Tinubu government harboured a grand scheme to dismember Nigeria into six possibly autonomous zones and that the administration has thrown Nigerians into untold hardship, all in efforts to weep up sentiments against the government.

“Nigeria is presently passing through a dangerous and precarious phase, and it is expected that every well-meaning Nigerian should realise the fragility of the nation, put politics aside and help to move the nation out of the woods.

“The leadership of Labour Party wishes to state clearly that it is within the right of every Nigerian to hold the government accountable for its inability to live up to the expectation.

“However, statements that are inciting and capable of plunging the nation into unwarranted combustion, particularly by the political class, must be avoided.

“The Labour Party under the able leadership of Barr. Julius Abure therefore wishes to completely dissociate itself from the unfortunate and reprehensible comments by its former vice presidential candidate.

“Similarly, the party also viewed the comment by the Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti of a possible ‘dooms day’ awaiting the Barr. Julius Abure’s led leadership as a direct threat to the lives of the party executive members.

“As if Labour Party is his personal company, Governor Otti at the illegal meeting on Wednesday 9th April, 2025 boasted that Abure refused an offer of the Chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of the party and that he was ready to ‘fumigate Abure and his team out of office’.

“He also threatened that the ‘dooms day’ is imminent. The party is therefore warning that no harm should befall any of the party’s leaders as a result of the imminent doom that the governor has threatened.

“This threat is coming a few days after a similar threat by the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajero to mobilise arms men to ‘flush’ the leadership out of our offices across the nation.

“We believe that these threats are not coincidental in any way as it is a known fact that NLC’s rascality is equally being funded by the Abia State Government.

“We are therefore by this statement notifying Nigerians, particularly the National Security Adviser (NSA), to come to our aid as our lives are clearly in danger and we no longer feel safe.”

VP was never denied access to presidential villa – Spokesperson

The spokesperson of Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, yesterday debunked reports that armed military units denied the Vice-President access to the Presidential Villa.

In a statement in Abuja, Nkwocha said the publication was a story so far removed from reality.

According to him, such misinformation can only be entertained by those unfamiliar with the inner workings of the Nigerian government.

Nkwocha, therefore, urged the public to disregard such malicious publications and advised the media to continue to seek information from credible sources and approach sensational claims with the caution it deserves.

“This we owe ourselves collectively as a nation,” he said.

Nkwocha noted that in recent times, there has been deliberate and well-planned orchestration of falsehood against the Vice President’s person and office in many multidimensional forms.

“These mischievous and totally fabricated reports are all in a bid to cause confusion and insinuate total clash in the Presidency.

” These reports seek to mislead the public into believing there’s discord at the highest levels of government.

“The latest in this string of disinformation is a report claiming that the Vice-President has been refused entry to the Villa.

“This is a feeble attempt to traduce the person and office of His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima. For the record, NOTHING OF THE SORT EVER HAPPENED.

“The recent publication by some obscure blogs alleging that armed military units have barricaded the Vice President from accessing the Presidential Villa is not only the wildest expression of wishful thinking.

“(It’s) a clear indication that the purveyors of these tales have exhausted both ink and imagination.”

Nkwocha said earlier this week, the Presidency dismissed similar fake news regarding responsibility for the circulation of campaign posters bearing the images of President Bola Tinubu.

“These stories reflect a desperate attempt to undermine the President and his Deputy’s fidelity to the rule of law and our constitution.

“Let it be known that those pushing these falsehoods do so in vain.

”It is understandable, though regrettable, that the mischief-makers continue to underestimate the strength of the bond and goodwill between the President and the Vice President.

“However, their questionable sources or habitual reliance on misinformation have once again led them astray.

“These fairy tales they publish serve no purpose beyond mischief and distraction.”

He said that Shettima remains focused on his duties and on supporting the President in achieving the aspirations of Nigerians.

“He does not have the luxury of time for distractions, particularly those born of the imagination of individuals intent on creating smoke where there is no fire.

“He’s not and will never partake in their media circus. It is a futile pursuit, even by the standards of the morally indifferent.”

  • No vacancy in Aso Rock, Emami declares, roots for Tinubu

No vacancy in Aso Rock, Emami declares, roots for Tinubu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Ayirimi Emami has declared that there would be “no vacancy” come 2027 in Aso Rock.

He insisted “Tinubu must go back” and complete his eight-year tenure.

The Delta businessman  spoke at a ceremony tagged Renewed Hope Valentine’s Carnival at the 911 Beach & Resort, Escravos in Warri Southwest council area, to thank hundreds of Ilaje fishermen and traders for supporting President Bola Tinubu.

The APC leader appealed to northern leaders to give Tinubu the opportunity to complete two terms as President, citing the support the immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, enjoyed from the South.

He said: “Let’s give Asiwaju chance to rule. We gave Buhari chance, it’s not that we were happy with the government. We fought our own brother to support Buhari. Now it’s the turn of Asiwaju, they are coming again that we should come fight. We say ‘no’. We are not going to fight.

“This man must complete his tenure. A lot of them that are ganging up are part of the last administration. For those ganging up, we will also enter our meeting here, Tinubu must complete his eight years. We say no to gang up.”

He also passed a confidence vote on the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku,  pointing out that the agency under him has been delivering on the commission’s mandate.

“No vacancy in the NDDC, we can only fight who does not do well. In the past six years we have not seen an MD like this, it was as if the NDDC was not in existence,” the APC chief stated.

For supporting Tinubu, the APC chieftain doled out items worth millions to hundreds of the Ilaje traders and fishermen.

The benefitting Ilaje communities, including Egbokuta, Costain, Agoila and Agogboro, received four speedboat engines through a raffle draw, 20 bags of rice, four cows and cash gifts.

A separate donation of a speedboat engine was also made to the Baale of Egbokuta, Durojaiye Ogunsemore, by the APC leader for his role in mobilising the people for the President.

Addressing the crowd, Emami said he saw the need to thank them for their unwavering support for Tinubu, prior to and during the election.

“I decided to show love to Ilajes in Warri Southwest because they stood firmly when people were not ready to support President Tinubu. When I come to your place, the townhall used to be full, you gave me food. I know you complain of high cost of fuel and food now, but Asiwaju is working to fix them.

“I don’t want to wait till 2027 to thank you. You accepted us during the campaigns, so I have come to thank you with the little that I have,” Emami said in pidgin.
