Shettima mourns Borno attack victims, backs Tinubu’s directive on stronger military operations

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, where many lives, including those of civilians and soldiers, were lost.

In a condolence message on Monday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima described the incident as a national tragedy, saying the killings had thrown the entire country into mourning.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima said.

The Vice President assured residents that the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, is determined to defeat terrorism.

He recalled the President’s directive to the Armed Forces to review current security operations and deploy advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment to strengthen the fight against insurgent groups across the country.

Shettima also reiterated the government’s consideration of establishing state police, in line with President Tinubu’s position that some security challenges require specialised local units with knowledge of terrain and culture to effectively safeguard communities.

Borno Governor Babagana l Zulum on Saturday visited Darajamal to commiserate with bereaved families following Friday night’s assault by Boko Haram fighters.

The Vice President joined in offering prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls and assured the people of Borno of the administration’s continued support in restoring peace and stability.

  • 2027: Northern minorities rally support for Tinubu’s re-election

2027: Northern minorities rally support for Tinubu’s re-election

    • Sustain your support for President, Akume urges kinsmen

Minority ethnic nationalities in the North, under the aegis of Northern Minorities, have begun to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

They promised to mobilise 2 million people from the North’s 19 states for a rally in Abuja to show support for President Tinubu’s re-election.

The mission of Northern Minorities, they said, is clearly “to add our voice to the growing, unstoppable wave of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.

The Convener of Northern Minorities 4 Tinubu, Chief Jacob Edi, addressed reporters at the weekend in Abuja on the group’s mission.

He said Northern Minorities rejected the falsehood being planted by those he called a few self-serving individuals in the North.

Edi noted that the growing support for President Tinubu’s re-election, seen across the country, was not a manufactured hype but organic and a conviction that the country was headed in the right direction.

He said: “Nigerians believe – and rightly so – that under President Tinubu, this nation is finally on the right path.

“Since 1999, we have never seen anything like this. Leaders from opposition parties are openly pledging support for a sitting President. The governors of Plateau, Caleb Mutfwang (PDP), Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo (APGA), Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke (PDP), and Abia State Governor Alex Otti (LP) have all boldly announced their support.

“That is not politics as usual. That is proof of leadership that cuts across divides.”

Edi noted that while genuine support is rising for the President, a handful of self-serving elites are telling lies that he is anti-North.

Insisting that “nothing can be farther from the truth,” the convener described those behind it as using propaganda to gain power.

He added “Let us be blunt: this is not about truth, it is about power. Their oligarchical instinct to dominate is at play.

“They shout the loudest, but they do not represent us. We, the northern minorities, the true majority of the North, reject their falsehood.

“Look at the facts. How can anyone, in good conscience, say President Tinubu is anti-North?

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Chief of Defence Staff, the GMD of NNPCL, the MD/CEO of Ajaokuta Steel Company, and the very cerebral Minister of Information and National Orientation are all northerners.

“Or, is there any other North unknown to we, the minorities of northern Nigeria?

“Let us not forget the creation of the Northwest and Northcentral Development Commissions which came into existence by the vision of one man, to tackle our region’s unique challenges and begin the narrative of equitable allocation of resources.

“And for the first time in history, an indigene of the FCT sits at the Federal Executive Council (FEC).”

Edi insisted that what President Tinubu is doing is not “tokenism” but “transformation in its purest and real form”.

Also, the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has implored the people of Benue State to sustain their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said doing so would lead to a successful implementation of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Akume spoke at the weekend at Wanune in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State while handing over fully renovated structures he facilitated through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to the local government’s Education Secretary, Mr. Aondoakaa Kwaghbo.

The facility has a fully equipped ICT laboratory, which he donated to the LGEA Primary School, Wannune, the primary school he attended.

In an emotion-laden voice, Akume said: “Today is a very great day for me, and very fulfilling too. It sparks off some beautiful and well-cherished memories of my life. My journey to stardom began here some decades ago. The renovation of the entire school structures and fully equipped ICT laboratory is part of my little contribution for the growth of my alma mater and the education of the state generally.

“I want to admonish you to continue to support my principal, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He has initiated life-changing initiatives that he alone has the drive and capacity to implement for the betterment of all citizens.

“As some of you are aware, the Makurdi-Katsina Ala Road reconstruction, Badagary-Sokoto highway, Makurdi-Otukpo-Ninth Mile Road, Lagos-Calabar Super Highway, and Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, among other road infrastructure, are currently ongoing with more to kick off soon to enhance economic growth across the country.”

Receiving the facility, Kwaghbo noted that education remains the bedrock for meaningful development to thrive in all societies.

The Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Hajiya Aisha Garba, performed the handing over ceremony.

She expressed appreciation to Akume for facilitating the project.

APC: consensus not meant to unseat Tinubu but to zone presidency to South

    • Party, Okechukwu reply ADC, Tambuwal over comments
    • Ruling party alleges ADC’s harassment of members in Alimosho

The Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON Osita Okechukwu, have said there is no national consensus to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Aminu Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor, had spoken on a national television programme on Friday of a plan to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

The Sokoto South senator described the move as a national consensus and not a northern conspiracy.

But the APC and Okechukwu, a chieftain of the party, faulted Tambuwal’s claim.

In a statement yesterday, the Lagos State APC spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, said: “What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance – and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.”

The statement said APC was amused to hear Tambuwal, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“This is yet another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth: Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support a government that is focused on performance, not propaganda.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed – he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background. And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running.

Also, Okechukwu said the only national consensus in the country is the rotation of the presidency from the North to the South, a convention that guarantees a second term for President Tinubu in 2027.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, he said: “The only subsisting national consensus is the rotation of the President from North to South and vice versa.

“The truism is that the majority of Nigerians both partisan and non-partisan, adopted the national consensus that the Presidency should rotate from the south to the north and vice versa. This is the subsisting convention instituted in 1999 by patriots, a golden milestone of the fourth Republic for equity, justice, and fairness.”

Also, the APC has condemned the conduct of ADC members at a rally held on Saturday in Alimosho, Lagos State.

During the rally, a former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, announced his defection to the ADC.

APC alleged that the event, rather than being a peaceful political gathering, turned to harassment of residents and its supporters by suspected ADC thugs.

APC’s Southwest Organising Secretary, Lateef Ibirogba, described the incident as “unfortunate and reckless,” stressing that Lagos had always been known for peaceful political activities and should not be turned into a theatre of violence.

“What happened in Alimosho yesterday (Saturday) is unacceptable. Political rallies should never be a platform for thuggery and harassment. Lagos has enjoyed relative peace, and no individual or group should be allowed to disrupt that with unruly behaviour,” Ibirogba said.

He queried Rhodes-Vivour’s choice of Alimosho as the venue for his defection.

“Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour does not live in Alimosho, nor does he vote here. One wonders why he will come all the way to announce his defection in this community, only to cause disruption. This shows his intentions were not noble,” Ibirogba said.

He added that the APC in Alimosho remained a peaceful and law-abiding party, but warned that its members would not tolerate outsiders coming to the community to cause mayhem under the guise of a political gathering.

“Our democracy thrives on freedom of choice and robust debate, not on intimidation or violence. We call on the police and other security agencies to ensure such ugly incidents do not repeat themselves in Lagos or anywhere in the Southwest,” he said.

He reassured APC supporters in Alimosho and across Lagos that the party remained committed to grassroots development and would not be distracted by what he described as “desperate political stunts”.

Tinubu’s reforms key to Nigeria’s growth, says DBI CEO

The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), David Daser, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms as crucial for Nigeria’s economic recovery, stability, and long-term growth.

Speaking in Abuja while marking his first anniversary in office, Daser urged Nigerians to be patient and support the President’s vision, noting that Tinubu has taken bold steps that past leaders avoided for political convenience.

“Some of the reforms may feel painful now, but they are necessary for Nigeria’s future stability and growth. President Tinubu has taken difficult decisions that past leaders seeking re-election avoided. For example, he removed the fuel subsidy on his very first day in office. This shows his commitment to genuine reform rather than political convenience,” he said.

Daser called on Nigerians to rally behind the President and re-elect him for a second term, stressing that continuity was vital to consolidate the ongoing reform process.

He acknowledged that while some policies may appear harsh in the short term, they were designed to deliver long-term benefits.

“Over the years, we have adopted short-term measures that kept digging Nigeria into deep holes. He is practically filling up the holes. It will be to the gain of Nigeria in the long run,” he added.

He said, “Among those parading themselves, it is only President Tinubu who can save Nigeria from the present economic crisis. The people ganging up in the coalition are the same people who put Nigeria into the mess. The best person we have in the room now is President Tinubu. He has taken the biggest decision that presidents who were interested in a second term were afraid to take, meaning, he does not care about winning or losing the election, but to save Nigeria from the present crisis.”

He emphasised that the President’s reforms were aimed at digitising the economy, creating jobs, and modernising governance. He added that the DBI was aligned with this vision and committed to equipping the workforce to thrive in a digital era.

“As part of this mandate, in DBI, our strategy for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is designed to drive large-scale job creation while positioning DBI Lagos as a premier talent city. We are working towards establishing a 10,000-seat BPO facility in the Lagos campus, a development expected to generate over 70,000 jobs.

“By 2026, we plan to expand this initiative to provide at least 100,000 jobs, further boosting Nigeria’s digital economy and empowering young people with sustainable employment opportunities,” Daser stated.

The women’s wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was made at the 2025 APC Enugu Women Stakeholders’ Conference, held over the weekend with the theme “Progressive Woman Initiative: Empowering Women for Leadership, Policy and Nation Building.”

Barr. Mrs. Adanma Ode moved the motion for the endorsement, which was seconded by the Southeast APC Woman Leader, Hon. Uche Diyoke.

Coordinating the endorsement process, APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Mary Alile-Idele, lauded the President’s leadership and commitment to renewing hope for Nigerians.

She urged Enugu APC women to take the message of support for Tinubu to every ward and polling unit ahead of 2027.

Enugu APC chairman, Hon. Ugochukwu Agballah, noted that the state chapter had been repositioned to lead the party’s resurgence in the state.

Dangote, NUPENG face-off: NLC seeks Tinubu’s intervention

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to promptly intervene in the face-off between the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Dangote Group,

The congress specifically called on the President to call on the Dangote Group to comply with labour laws and international conventions.

NLC made the call in a statement signed by its President, Mr Joe Ajaero, which was made available to newsmen yesterday in Abuja.

The statement was sequel to the announcement by NUPENG that it would commence a nationwide strike from Monday, over what it described as  Dangote’s “anti-union practices, monopolistic agenda, and indecent industrial relations strategies.”

Ajaero called on the President to “immediately call Aliko Dangote and Alhaji Sayyu Dantata to order” and impress on them to respect the nation and international law

Ajaero added that the government must not look the other way while a few individuals privatise the nation’s energy future and enslave its workforce, stressing,

The NLC President accused Dangote Group of exploiting Nigerian workers while disregarding their constitutional rights to unionise and bargain collectively.

“The NLC unequivocally condemn the anti-union, anti-worker, and monopolistic practices of the Dangote Group and its affiliates.

“Nigerian workers are not slaves and cannot be serially abused without consequences,” he said.

Ajaero said the congress further demanded the immediate unionisation of Dangote Refinery and all its subsidiaries.

According to him, preparations are underway for a united resistance in solidarity with NUPENG, including possible industrial action.

“If Dangote continues on this reckless anti-union path, we will move beyond words to action.

  • From fragility to foundations: Inside PBAT’s political economy

From fragility to foundations: Inside PBAT’s political economy

    By Tanimu Yakubu

In early 2024, Nigeria’s naira collapsed to ₦1,800 per dollar, rattling households and businesses alike. By August 2025, it had strengthened to ₦1,525. For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this was not just recovery but the opening proof of his broader political economy: building Nigeria on three foundations — credible currency, concrete infrastructure, and kilowatts of power.

Currency reform was the first bold stroke. By floating the naira, clearing a $4 billion foreign exchange backlog, and bringing remittances into official channels, the government restored some measure of trust.

For traders, it meant fewer shocks when pricing goods. For students abroad, it meant less uncertainty over tuition. For investors, it meant a government that honored obligations. The naira, long a burden to defend, began to look like a tool to deploy.

Infrastructure has been Tinubu’s second lever. More than ₦5.9 trillion has gone into projects in the Northwest, his electoral base, but their benefits ripple nationwide.

The Kaduna–Kano Expressway, Kano–Maiduguri Highway, and Sokoto–Illela Corridor cut travel times and lower costs for farmers and traders. Lagos, reframed as a logistics hub, connects northern produce to southern ports and eastern manufacturers to western markets. Concrete here is less a regional trophy than a national glue.

Yet roads without power remain empty. The revival of the 255MW Kaduna Power Plant shows how electricity must animate infrastructure. For factories, kilowatts mean extra shifts and more jobs. For clinics, they mean functioning refrigerators for vaccines.

For children, they mean studying under electric light rather than kerosene lamps. Renewables strengthen the justice dimension: solar irrigation in Zamfara demonstrates how energy can power farms and livelihoods as well as industry.

The most ambitious vision is the Tinubu National Beltway, a Calabar–Maiduguri–Sokoto arc that redraws Nigeria’s map. But it is not alone. With work on the Badagry–Lagos expressway, the Illela–Sokoto corridor, and the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Super Highway, Tinubu is effectively sketching a square of dual carriageways across the federation.

Read Also: Repositioning Nigeria as industrial hub for local paper production

The Beltway curves, the coastal and northern lines straighten — forming a lattice of asphalt that stabilizes the country. It is geography turned into strategy: a deliberate grid that holds together Nigeria’s diversity.

This continuity builds on his predecessor. Muhammadu Buhari poured concrete into signature projects — railways, bridges, and the Second Niger Bridge. Tinubu extends that legacy, turning Buhari’s lines into loops, spines into squares. Rather than rivals, the two appear as successive masons: Buhari laying the pillars, Tinubu closing the frame. The partnership is political continuity made visible in concrete and steel.

Critics dismiss this as propaganda, pointing to charts suggesting Lagos benefits most or that projects tilt northward. Yet the truest measure is lived experience: the driver who now saves hours on a repaired highway, the trader whose goods arrive in Lagos sooner. Hashtags fade; asphalt endures.

Risks remain. Nigeria has a history of stalled projects and rising costs. Inflation bites households even as reforms strengthen exporters. Security looms as a constant threat — a rebuilt road can be rendered useless overnight by banditry. And without deeper financial markets, FX stability will remain vulnerable.

Still, Tinubu’s wager is clear. Currency credibility fuels competitiveness. Concrete stitches the federation into one market. Kilowatts power productivity and dignity. From fragility to foundations, he extends Buhari’s groundwork and sets Nigeria on a course where economic geography and political coalition are bound together.
