BREAKING: Tinubu arrives Japan for TICAD9

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which kicks off on Wednesday in Yokohama.

President Tinubu, who arrived at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo at about 12:55am local time on Tuesday, was welcomed by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, the Japanese Ambassador in Charge of TICAD, along with the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.

TICAD9, which follows after the last one held in Tunisia in 2022, will hold from Wednesday, 20 to Friday 22 of August.

The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and stronger institutions.

The President is scheduled to attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks with world leaders, and engage Japanese business executives, including companies with existing or potential investments in Nigeria.

…launches 40,000CMB LPG vessel in South Korea

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria is poised to deliver clean and sustainable energy solutions not just in-country but also across Africa and beyond.

He made the remarks on Monday at the commissioning ceremony of a 40,000 cubic meters (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel, christened MT Iyaloja (Lagos), in Ulsan, South Korea.

This was contained in a press statement the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) issued today.

According to the statement, the vessel owned by WAGL Energy Limited (an NNPC Ltd. /Sahara Group Joint Venture) is a dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier. This latest addition brings WAGL’s total LPG vessel capacity to 162,000 CBM. Other vessels in the fleet include MT Africa Gas, MT Sahara Gas, MT BaruMK, and MT Sapet.

Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, the President, commended WAGL Energy Limited, NNPC Limited and Sahara Group for their strategic foresight, technical excellence and unwavering dedication to expanding Africa’s role in the global clean energy value-chain.

In his remarks, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari described WAGL’s LPG Vessel as a great addition to gas development efforts in Nigeria.

The GCEO, who was represented by the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, added that the vessel will be crucial in realising the impact of gas in Nigeria’s economic development.

According to him, NNPC Ltd. is deepening its commitment to ensure LPG affordability, availability and access, nationwide.

NNPC Ltd. is proud to be a major shareholder in this indigenous Company, which, in addition to the newly commissioned MT Iyaloja (Lagos), owns four (4) other LPG vessels in its growing fleet, delivering over 6 million MT of LPG across West Africa over the last 5 years, he added.

Also speaking, WAGL’s Chairman/Executive Director at Sahara Group, Mr. Temitope Shonubi, noted that the company’s expansion demonstrates its vision of responsibly driving efforts aimed at bridging the continent’s critical energy infrastructure gap.

“The addition of MT Iyaloja (Lagos) embodies the spirit of progress and empowerment championed by the iconic Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, whose legacy we honour. Sahara Group is proud of its partnership with NNPC Ltd. and reaffirms its commitment to partnerships that drive energy access in Africa,” he added.

WAGL’s Managing Director, Mr. Mohammed Sani Bello, stressed that the company is dedicated to expanding its integrated supply network across the entire energy value chain.

“WAGL already has plans to further expand the fleet within the next two years with the addition of a Small Gas Carrier and a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC),” he added.

The symbolic ribbon cutting of MT Iyaloja (Lagos), named in honour of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji (the late mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu), was performed by her granddaughter, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Alhaja Folasade Mujidat Tinubu-Ojo.

All South-East Govs backing Tinubu for 2027 – Umahi

The Minister of Works David Umahi has declared that every Governor in the South-East is fully behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

In a video shared on Sunday by @peopleofebonyi_, Ebonyi 1st Choice News Media, Umahi said: “All the governors of the South-East are supporting the president for 2027, and there’s no governor in the South-East that is not supporting the president.

“Governors are in charge of their states. You see Anambra, you see Enugu, you’ve seen Ebonyi, you’ve seen all that the governor is doing, you’ve seen Abia, you’ve seen Imo, so we are very confident that we’ll write our history.”

Positioning himself as a key figure in the region’s political future, Umahi insisted that when the presidency rotates to the South-East, he should be at the forefront because of his achievements both as governor and minister.

“When the presidency comes to the South-East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance.

“I’ve asked for a debate with anybody who feels otherwise. I created something out of this state. God used me to do it.”

He further argued that his record outshines others in the region.

“We compare governor to governor, time to time, and compare what you have done for the South-East. I beat my chest and say ‘Listen, God has used me, President Tinubu has used me, to better the lot of the South-East.’ You can tell when we last had it this good.”

Umahi also advised the South-East to avoid sentiment in its quest for the presidency.

“My advice for our people is to re-engage. We can’t get to the presidency by sentiment. We have to re-engage; we have to support other regions. And at the time of God, nobody will stop it. It will come to us. And who knows whether, at that time, it will be the man standing by the honourable minister.”

Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu commended for youth-centred leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu have been praised for their forward-looking, youth-focused governance, with calls on young Nigerians to seize emerging opportunities.

Prince Adeniyi Olutimehin, president of the Greater Lagos Initiative, a non-governmental organisation, made the commendation during the International Youth Day celebration in Ikeja, Lagos, hosted by Ikeja Local Government Chairman Akeem Olalekan Dauda.

Olutimehin also lauded Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mobolaji Ogunlende, and Dauda for their “outstanding contributions to youth empowerment and inclusion”.

He described President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a “game-changer” for young Nigerians, citing initiatives such as the increase in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) allowances, the launch of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for interest-free tertiary education loans, and grants for young innovators and entrepreneurs.

He noted that these measures ease financial burdens, boost small businesses and start-ups, and equip youth for global competitiveness.

Olutimehin equally commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s investments in vocational training centres, digital skills hubs, and sports facilities, saying these programmes position Lagos youth for leadership in the modern economy.

“The combined efforts of the federal, state, and local governments show an unshakable commitment to empowering our young people,” he said. “From policy reforms to direct financial support, Nigerian youth are being given the tools and confidence to shape their future.”

He urged youths to participate in governance and contribute to national unity and progress.

International Youth Day, themed “Youth as Agents of Change”, featured cultural performances, panel discussions, and an award honouring outstanding youth leaders in Lagos.

‘Tinubu’s bold reforms have saved economy from comatose’

A governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic and bold reforms.

He said they have saved the economy from comatose.

Ogunbiyi said President Tinubu’s leadership acumen and Midas touch had brought about transformative changes in the nation’s economy, freeing it from the shackles of economic cankerworms that could have had long-lasting impacts.

The APC chieftain spoke at a meeting with the expanded caucus of Osun APC Women Wing held in Osogbo yesterday.

According to a statement issued by his media team, Ogunbiyi highlighted the President’s bold decision to remove fuel subsidy and float the naira, which had brought about socio-economic stability in Nigeria.

This, he said, had improved the supply of petrol, reduced queues at filling stations and eased burden on Nigerians, adding that ‘’businesses now have unhindered access to foreign currency, enabling them to operate more smoothly.

“In Nigeria of today, we no longer experience long queues at filling stations. Businesses can enjoy unhindered access to stable foreign exchange; and all sub-nationals have enough resources to expand the prism of socio-economic development for the people.

“These are undeniable gains of what courage, ingenuity and vision can birth for any nation that has a transformative leader such as President Tinubu,” he said.

Speaking on his governorship aspiration, Ogunbiyi expressed his commitment to a peaceful political approach, emphasising that his ambition was driven by a desire to serve, rather than self-centred interests.

He distanced himself from do-or-die politics, restating his dedication to the unity of APC under the leadership of Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola and Pa Bisi Akande at the state and national levels.

Speaking on behalf of the APC Women Wing, the state Women Leader, Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, lauded Ogunbiyi for his dedication to the progress and unity of the party, reiterating the need to continue advancing the interest of women at all levels.

Osun ex-lawmaker warns opposition against blackmailing Tinubu

A former lawmaker in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has warned members of opposition parties against politicising Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC’s) investigations to blackmail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement yesterday said investigations being carried out by the anti-graft agency on some former opposition party governors and political appointees, based on petitions against them, were purely a constitutional matter and in line with international best practices.

He said being a member of the opposition parties should not be seen as immunity against investigation into any alleged financial infractions whenever there were genuine reasons for it.

“Members of the ruling party are also being investigated by the EFCC whenever petitions alleging financial infractions are raised against them.”

Oyintiloye said EFCC had a statutory mandate to investigate financial infractions involving public office holders across party lines without bias or favouritism.

He cautioned members of opposition parties under EFCC investigation to stop blackmailing the President and focus on proving their innocence, if any.

The APC chieftain said neither Tinubu nor the anti-graft agency would be swayed by unfounded allegations of witch-hunting, but would rather continue to do what was right and just for the country.

  • Tinubu’s legacy projects will nullify oppositions’ threat, says Reps member

Tinubu’s legacy projects will nullify oppositions’ threat, says Reps member

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Aderemi Oseni, an engineer, is a household in Oyo State due to his philanthropy. In this interview with TAJUDEEN ADEBANJO, the lawmaker, representing Ibarapa East/Ido Constituency, offered insight into the politics of 2027, the infrastructural projects being executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as the tasks before the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

As Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on FERMA, how will you assess the ongoing road projects embarked by this present administration?

The road infrastructure projects are not just commendable, but quite daring and impressive. With the state of our economy at the time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, he was able to embark on the development of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway, among others. And the execution of these projects is progressing steadily. This is no doubt audacious, and we must commend Mr. President for taking such bold moves. Because of my oversight responsibilities, I have been to these project sites, whether in the South-east or North-east, South-south or the North-central, South-west to the North-west to evaluate the quality and stage of these road project execution. Honestly, it is impressive and massive. The projects, especially those legacy projects of the president, are creating a good number of jobs for our young people nationwide. In terms of quality, the projects are of international standards. When you look at all these legacy projects, we should be proud of what this government is doing. You can never rule out the impact the projects already have and will continue to have on our people across the federation.

Contrary to your view, these projects have been eliciting criticism from different quarters. Does your explanation suggest that those criticising these projects are out of point?

The opposition forces are completely out of point. That does not mean we are not receptive to public criticisms. Democracy thrives on criticism. But when they criticise, such criticisms must be constructive. And the critics should be able to come up with credible alternatives in their criticism. But critics lack the ability to present credible alternatives. Such an approach is not just adversarial to democracy, but also destructive. Honestly speaking, the progress President Tinubu has recorded since he assumed office is obviously next to none. In terms of service delivery, no administration has been able to take the bull by the horn the way this president did. The Bible says when the righteous is in the position of authority, people will rejoice. Unlike the way it has been floating from left to right, foreign exchange has been relatively stable. Our fiscal space too is more promising than anytime in our recent history.  The Tax Reform Act, 2025 will further strengthen the country’s fiscal space. When you look at all our debt profile before now, he has sufficiently written off the majority of it. In return, that singular effort has turned around our economy. No administration has been able to achieve this feat since the Fourth Republic. This shows that President Tinubu actually knows where the shoes are pinching his people. That is basically how and why you really need to commend the president for the bold decisions he has been taking to turn around our economy. What the critics are saying do not reflect the good works the president has been doing. The joy we are experiencing will continue to grow over time.

Before 2023, you were among Nigerians that campaigned and supported the presidential election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. What informed your decision then? Will you still do the same for him in 2027?

I am a living witness to how Asiwaju (Tinubu) transformed Lagos State when he was the Governor of the state. Like now, he encountered diverse constraints, but his administration significantly reformed. He came up with the development plan for the state. He also re-engineered the state’s fiscal environment. That is similar to what he is doing as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I knew all these because the headquarters of my business is in Lagos. The Renewed Hope he adopted as his campaign mantra did not start when he aspired to be President. He started it right from Lagos State when he was the governor. At different times, I told my friends that former Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN recorded good success during his administration because Asiwaju laid a solid foundation for the people of Lagos State. The same thing applied to former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who built on this foundation with speed. The current Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is now building on the same foundation. With this evidence, it was natural for me to support his presidential aspiration. With all sense of modesty, I donated the head office of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) in Oyo State. Given his records as the Governor of Lagos State, I strongly believed that Asiwaju was the most ideal and qualified among candidates that contested the 2023 presidential election. As a member of South-west APC, the ultimate goal that we had at that time was to market Asiwaju and ensure a landslide at the poll. That was exactly what we got.

Ahead of 2027, Oyo APC is still divided. What are the stakeholders doing to bring factions together and ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election?

The truth is hard to bear most times. But at the end of the day, you will enjoy it. I am not aware of any division in Oyo APC. As a business person and political leader in the state, I cannot see any division in the rank of Oyo APC. However, we may have disagreements here or there on issues that affect our party. Such disagreements are not unusual in politics.  But that does not suggest that we are divided. Rather, we are one political family, rooting for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and the unity of Nigeria. As a chapter, we are committed to promoting his Renewed Hope Agenda beyond what we already knew. That is why somebody like me is committed to popularising the achievements of the Tinubu administration. I have taken it even beyond the level of our party. I have also set up a movement of Oyo people to start a person-to-person and house-to-house campaign for the re-election of the president. We call it the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), a purely non-ethnic and non-religious group that will champion Tinubu’s re-election in Oyo State. That structure is in place already. We deploy it when that time comes. Already,  I have over 200,000 members of this movement in 33 local government areas of the state. Besides, about six weeks ago, I inaugurated what we call “The Gatekeepers”, also in all the 33 local government areas. I rolled out my six-point agenda for this movement. Our ultimate goal is to deliver along with prominent and responsible party members in Oyo State. We are not at cross-purpose with my political movement. We are simply working to complement the efforts of the APC and ensure a landslide for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. ROCOF, as a movement, is already in the forefront to deliver Oyo State for the president.  If I am able to mobilise over 200,000 within six weeks, I am sure I will hit my target of mobilising at least 500,000 people to midwife the re-election of the president in 2027 before the end of this year.

President Tinubu recently announced the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway. From your oversight functions, has the project commenced? If it has commenced, what is the stage of reconstruction?

Like Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the president is committed to reconstructing the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway. It is a highly strategic road infrastructure that connects five or six states. The states along the corridor include Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Edo. Aside, Delta and Ekiti will also benefit tremendously from this project, both directly and indirectly. Given its potential to create massive jobs and boost the economies of states along this corridor, no administration will de-prioritise that kind of project. This shows that President Tinubu has a policy of prioritising people-centric projects and programmes. Let me be very objective, the success of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be a blessing to Nigeria at large. It is an economic road that will be used by all Nigerians. The highway will connect Lagos to Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom. This is huge. The previous administrations struggled to reconstruct the East-West Highway. No significant progress was recorded until President Tinubu came on board. When I say blessing, I really mean the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a  blessing to us as a federation of over 230 million. The Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway that everybody has been using to connect Abuja from Ibadan  has been in a deplorable situation. It is one of the areas where I have long been advocating for government intervention. My advocacy is simply based on the need to reconstruct all our existing roads nationwide in order to boost our domestic economy. I am happy that the president is now doing it. The impact of all these road infrastructure projects will be felt across all the strata of this federation. As said earlier, work is in progress on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Work has commenced on the Ibadan-Ilesha-Akure-Benin Highway. You may not see much site work now. But a lot is going on. The federal government may not be able to complete the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as expected due to difficult terrain. Once we are able to complete the Ibadan-Ilesa-Akure-Benin Highway, it will bring huge relief for the commuters across the federation. I travelled on this road almost every month to see the progress that we are making across the country. But our challenge again is for us to fix the road section between Owo and Lokoja. Once those areas are properly addressed, no one will complain again. Then, traveling from Lagos to Abuja will no longer be a challenge.

Opposition parties have formed a coalition against President Bola Ahmed ahead of 2027. With this coalition, is his re-election not threatened?

In every democracy, opposition is a critical element that defines both politics and governance. For me, the recent coalition of opposition parties is in line with democratic practice. However, we are not threatened at all by what they are doing. First, this administration is undertaking key reforms that will make Nigeria a prosperous nation if we push it through. It is a matter of time. We will all see that President Tinubu means well for Nigerians. Second, the coalition has not come up with credible alternatives. If they think President Tinubu is not governing right, they should bring forward what they will do differently. But they have failed to offer Nigerians credible alternatives. Nigerians are not fools. They are intelligent people who are looking for credible alternatives. Third, the coalition comprises diverse interests that have been tested in different capacities at the national and state levels. But they all failed the people. After they betrayed public trust at one point or the other, what do they want to offer now? As for us in the APC, we are not threatened by the coalition of opposition parties. We are confident of victory in 2027. Our record of achievements will speak for us, and the electorate will cast their ballots based on what we have done. The truth is it will be misleading to say that the so-called coalition is not making noise. But there is a difference between noise that is result-oriented and noise that is purely attention-seeking. For me, they are a group of people making noise to gain some attention. As a one-time formidable opposition party, APC offered Nigerians credible alternatives. We also complained with the strength of our people-centric policies and programmes. And we earned public trust and won the 2015 presidential election. Some of them were in our fold then. They knew how we leveraged our position as the leading opposition party to defeat the ruling party. They know they are not serious at all. We are waiting for them in 2027. God willing, many of them will join us very soon.

Legislative bye-elections: Our victory, an endorsement of Tinubu – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described its sweeping victory in Saturday’s legislative bye-elections as a strong endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, commended Nigerians for the overwhelming support that secured decisive wins for APC candidates in the off-season polls conducted across 12 states.

Morka noted that the outcome of the elections reflects growing public confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, adding that his administration is already delivering transformative progress in the economy and other key sectors of national life.

“We commend the President and leader of our great Party for creating a level playing field for the bye-election contest, as well as our Progressive Governors, devoted Party leaders, members and supporters for their sacrificial efforts and contribution towards this electoral victory.

“Our hearty congratulations go to our victorious candidates across the country, and we charge them to reward their constituents with purposeful legislative interventions that translate Renewed Hope Agenda to meaningful benefits for the people.”

The party congratulated the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on the crucial first dominant victory under his leadership.

According to Morka, “It is a strong pointer to greater things to come.”

The Party also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its successful conduct of the bye-elections, and hails all security agencies for maintaining peace and order, despite cases of election violence and voters suppression in some districts.

“Again, our deepest gratitude remains with the Nigerian electorate and we urge all Nigerians to sustain their support for our great Party and Mr President as he continues to pave a clear and steady path of prosperity for this and future generations.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II), describing his passing as a significant loss to Nigeria.

The traditional ruler, who was also a retired military officer and one-time military governor of Bauchi State, died in the early hours of Sunday.

In a condolence message made available by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the late Emir would be remembered not only for his service as a soldier during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) but also for his distinguished contributions as an administrator and revered traditional leader.

He commended the monarch’s decades of sterling leadership, noting that his efforts brought peace, stability, and development to the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State at large.

“As a young military officer, the Emir of Zuru also served Nigeria during the Civil War (1967-1970).

“The President acknowledged the late royal father’s sterling leadership, which helped bring stability and development to the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State”, the statement said.

Tinubu prayed for the repose of the late emir’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to comfort his family, the Zuru Emirate Council, and the people of Kebbi State in their grief.

The Atum Humanitarian Anti-Corruption and Charitable Initiative (AHACCI) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting good governance in the country.

The organisation said the current administration was setting a new tone for transparency and accountability in governance.

Director-General of AHACCI, Ismaila Atus, in a statement commended the President for strengthening anti-corruption agencies through increased funding and guaranteed independence.

He noted that these moves have empowered anti-graft institutions in the country to carry out their mandate without political interference.

Atus, a vocal advocate for grassroots integrity and systemic reform, alluded to Nigeria’s rise in the 2024 Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index, saying it is a well-deserved result of bold steps taken by President Tinubu since assuming office.

He said: “President Tinubu’s strategic policies and decisive actions against corruption are clearly restoring faith in our institutions.

“The leap in TI’s rankings — from 145th to 140th reflects the global community’s growing confidence in Nigeria’s governance under his leadership.

“This is not business as usual. What we’re witnessing is a deliberate effort to institutionalise integrity and restore dignity to public service.”

The AHACCI DG also commended President Tinubu for economic policies that help tackle the root causes of corruption, especially among civil servants and young people.

He said these initiatives promote dignity of labour, reduce economic desperation, and make it easier for Nigerians to meet their needs without cutting corners.

He added: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated uncommon courage and clarity in the fight against corruption. What sets this administration apart from previous ones is not just its commitment, but its execution. From ensuring the independence of key anti-corruption agencies to backing them with the resources they need to succeed, the President is laying the groundwork for a Nigeria that future generations can be proud of.

“We must also commend the administration for attacking the roots of corruption which are poverty, inequality, and institutional weakness. Initiatives like the student loan scheme, the credit guarantee system, and the increase in minimum wage are not just economic tools; they are weapons against corruption. When citizens can meet their basic needs through legitimate means, the temptation to cut corners reduces drastically.

“Furthermore, by making home ownership possible for civil servants and easing access to credit for entrepreneurs, the President is addressing the pressure points that often lead to corrupt behaviour. That is forward-thinking leadership.

“This is a defining moment for Nigeria. The improvement in our global ranking is not just a statistic; it is a signal that we are on the right path.”
