  • Fed Govt disburses ₦250,000 grants to MSMEs in Ondo

Fed Govt disburses ₦250,000 grants to MSMEs in Ondo

The Federal Government on Tuesday disbursed ₦250,000 each in unconditional grants to outstanding small business owners in Ondo State, as Vice President Kashim Shettima launched the 7th edition of the Expanded National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Clinics in Akure.

The grants, according to the Vice President, are a practical demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to building a thriving and inclusive economy by empowering grassroots entrepreneurs.

“This is not a loan. It is a gift from the Nigerian people, through their government, to the champions of local industry. We see you, we value you, and we believe in your journey”, Senator Shettima declared at the event, which attracted state governors, traditional rulers, and business stakeholders.

Describing MSMEs as the “silent architects of survival” and “the pulse of every community,” the Vice President said their empowerment remains central to the economic policy of the Renewed Hope administration, especially as they account for over 90 percent of businesses in Nigeria, contribute more than 45 percent to GDP, and employ over 60 million Nigerians.

“This administration is deliberate in walking the talk, and one of the ways we do so is through platforms such as the MSME Clinics, conceived to draw the Federal Government closer to the creators of jobs, the innovators, the dreamers who make things happen in our communities,” he added.

The MSME Clinics, initiated to provide direct interface between small businesses and relevant government agencies, also serve as platforms for problem-solving and partnership building, Shettima said.

According to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, he noted that the Ondo edition offers small business operators a unique opportunity to engage directly with regulators, financial institutions, and support organisations.

In addition to the ₦250,000 grants for exhibiting MSMEs at the Clinics, the Vice President highlighted other federal interventions under the Tinubu administration.

These include the ₦75 billion MSME Intervention Fund administered by the Bank of Industry; the ₦50 billion Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme targeting one million nano businesses across all 774 local government areas; and the ₦75 billion Manufacturers Fund that enables manufacturers to access up to ₦1 billion in loans at a 9 percent interest rate.

“These interventions are not theories or wishful thinking. They are real-time, face-to-face, problem-solving solutions for small business challenges,” Shettima said.

He urged small business owners to take full advantage of the Clinics by engaging the agencies present, asking questions, and leveraging the platforms to elevate their enterprises.

The event also featured a tour of a product exhibition by MSME operators from across Ondo State and beyond, led by Vice President Shettima and accompanied by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and other dignitaries.

In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s alignment with the federal government’s MSME agenda. He said Ondo’s seven-point development plan places strong emphasis on empowering small businesses, with successes recorded in agriculture, fashion, and light manufacturing.

“Your presence here today demonstrates your unwavering commitment to the development of our state and key sectors of our nation’s economy. Your interest in promoting MSMEs across Nigeria has changed the fortunes and stories of small businesses”, the governor told the Vice President.

Also speaking, Governor Oyebanji hailed the Clinics initiative as a first-of-its-kind effort by any government in Nigeria to directly connect small business operators with facilitators of growth.

In a goodwill message, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, acknowledged the contributions of the Tinubu administration and the Ondo State government to MSME development.

He called on all stakeholders to promote made-in-Nigeria products as a strategic way to support young entrepreneurs and grow the local economy.

The Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Mr. Charles Odii, noted that the Clinics have been instrumental in actualising the federal government’s MSME agenda, with positive feedback from participants at previous editions.

Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, also lauded the programme’s impact, assuring that the Ondo edition would be no different.

Earlier in the day, Vice President Shettima paid a courtesy visit to the Ondo State Council of Chiefs, where he was warmly received by the traditional rulers led by the Chairman, Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.

During the visit, the VP commended the traditional institution for its support of the administration’s reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said President Tinubu had taken difficult but necessary decisions to reposition the economy, including addressing issues like multiple taxation and investing in infrastructure such as the Lagos-Badagry-Calabar Highway.

“The President, being a son of the South West, is a man of courage who means well for traditional institutions,” Shettima told the council.

In response, Oba Ogunoye praised the President for ending the fuel subsidy regime, stating that it has freed up resources that are now being channelled into critical sectors of the economy.

He pledged the continued support of the traditional rulers for both the federal and Ondo State governments.

The MSME Clinic in Akure is the seventh in the expanded series initiated under the Tinubu administration.

Dangiwa showcases Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing gains in northern Nigeria ‎

‎The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has unveiled major milestones recorded under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme across Northern Nigeria, describing the initiative as a tool for rebuilding lives, creating jobs, and fostering community renewal.

‎Speaking during a two-day interactive session hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at Arewa House, Kaduna, Dangiwa highlighted the administration’s commitment to using housing as a catalyst for economic empowerment and social transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎“We are not just building houses; we are rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and laying the foundation for a more secure and prosperous North,” he said.

‎According to the minister, the Ministry’s three-pronged housing strategy is reshaping the region’s urban landscape with 6,112 homes currently under construction. These include the Renewed Hope City in Karsana, FCT with 3,112 units; a 1,500-unit city project in Kano; and additional 250-unit estates in Katsina, Gombe, Yobe, Sokoto, Benue, and Nasarawa States.

‎All estates are being delivered with integrated infrastructure such as roads, water supply, solar-powered lighting, and basic social amenities.

‎Dangiwa said the Ministry is also implementing the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme aimed at delivering 100 affordable homes in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

‎The housing initiatives have created over 152,000 direct and indirect jobs across the North. Many local artisans and youths now earn up to N150,000 monthly, the minister noted, adding that the Ministry is also investing in building materials manufacturing hubs to reduce construction costs and boost local industry.

‎He further revealed the launch of a Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict (RSPIC), a humanitarian initiative targeting victims of terrorism and banditry. The pilot project, underway in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State—scene of the December 2023 accidental military airstrike—will deliver 252 new homes across seven northern states including Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Benue, and Sokoto.

‎“This is housing as healing, helping families affected by conflict reclaim stability and hope,” Dangiwa stated.

‎On urban renewal, the Minister said over 150 slum upgrade projects have been completed, with more than 100 ongoing across major communities like Tudun Wada in Sokoto, Yankaba in Kano, and Tunga in Niger State.

‎Dangiwa further announced plans to expand the programme across more northern states, with new housing projects, the rollout of the 774-LGA social housing initiative, and wider access to single-digit mortgages and rent-to-own financing. Plans are also underway for more building material hubs to promote affordability and self-reliance.

‎“This is more than infrastructure. It’s a renewal of trust in government and a practical demonstration that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering real change,” ‎the minister said.

  • Don’t blame Tinubu for north’s woes, Shehu Sani tells critics

Don’t blame Tinubu for north’s woes, Shehu Sani tells critics

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be held responsible for the North’s underdevelopment, asserting that the region’s challenges were caused by its past leaders who failed to utilize their time in power effectively.

Sani noted that despite the North’s prolonged grip on political leadership in Nigeria, the region continues to grapple with poverty, insecurity, and stagnation.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by members of the Tijjaniyya Grassroots Mobilization and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria (TIGMEIN) at his Kaduna residence, the former lawmaker described the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a wasted opportunity for the North.

He emphasized that meaningful progress in the region must come from within, through accountable and visionary leadership.

“We had Buhari in power for eight years, but the North remained backward and impoverished. Industries like KTL, UNTL, Nortex, Arewa Textiles and others were abandoned. Our leaders lacked vision and pursued development only for their families,” he said.

He lamented that many northerners had believed electing “one of their own” would transform the region, but instead, they were left with dashed hopes, worsening insecurity, mass poverty, joblessness, and dilapidated infrastructure.

Sani stressed that it was both unfair and deceitful to blame Tinubu, who has only been in office for two years, for challenges rooted in decades of misgovernance.

“The North’s problems didn’t start with Tinubu. They are the results of selfish power struggles, looted resources, and abandoned responsibilities by past leaders. These leaders had every chance to fix education, healthcare, and security — but they failed,” he said.

He accused some Northern leaders of enriching themselves while neglecting the region, saying, “Some even stopped attending Arewa meetings. They failed to represent the region’s true interest in national development.”

The former lawmaker listed abandoned and uncompleted projects such as the Kaduna–Abuja road, Minna–Abuja road, Lokoja–Abuja expressway, Ajaokuta Steel Company, and the Mambilla Power Project as evidence of leadership failure.

“Today, they want to deceive you that Tinubu is your problem. But ask yourself did these bad hospitals, failed roads, insecurity, and poverty start just 24 months ago?” he asked.

Sani warned against returning failed leaders to power, saying, “No matter how bad things may seem now, know this your brothers from the North failed you. If they return to power, nothing will change.”

He, however, commended TIGMEIN for its grassroots empowerment initiatives, especially its focus on equipping women and youths with vocational skills to drive self-reliance and reduce poverty.

  • 2027: Tinubu will have landslide victory, says SWAGA

2027: Tinubu will have landslide victory, says SWAGA

A socio-political group, Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), on Tuesday said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would have a landslide victory in the 2027 election.

The group said it had been vindicated by the achievements of the president across the sectors of the economy, adding that he has lived up to expectations.

SWAGA leader, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who spoke with reporters in Lagos on what he described as the group’s second missionary journey, said there is no obstacle to the way of a second term.

Accompanied by other chieftains, including Bosun Oladele, Adetilewa Sijuwade, Julius Oloro, Muniru Hakeem Abiodun, and Deji Jakande, he said it is evident that Nigerians never voted for President Tinubu in vain in 2023.

Adeyeye dismissed the tricks of other rival aspirants who are trying to woo Nigerians with a joker of one term, saying that they are jesters.

He also faulted the argument of subjective observers who think that the North would not vote for president in 2027.

Adeyeye said those peddling the falsehood are not in tune with reality, stressing that the thinking in the North is that President Tinubu should be re-elected.

He said, “President Tinubu will have a landslide victory in 2027. Some aspirants are talking about one term. One term is deceitful. There is no certainty in it. Nobody would leave certainty for uncertainty.

“What can they do in one term of four years? That means they want power for themselves only.”

Adeyeye also dismissed the lie about the Yorubanisation of public appointments, saying that the president has been fair to the six regions.

Highlighting the achievements of the president, he said the feats would recommend him to Nigerians for re-election.

Adeyeye said, “President Tinubu has not disappointed us who believed in his vision for Nigeria and his capability to drive the mission.”

Adeyeye, chairman of the board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), said the President’s prompt removal of the corrupt, crippling and evil fuel subsidy that has fleeced the country for decades and robbed it of legacy developmental projects whilst enriching a few and impoverishing the multitude.

He added, “The results are visible in more money to the state coffers and the Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the country. It is noteworthy that every notable Presidential candidate in the last election pledged to remove fuel subsidy, but we in SWAGA knew that the only person bold enough among them to hit the ground running about this was Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We were vindicated.

“He floated the Naira and stopped the reckless printing of currency and corrupt borrowing through the unpopular “ways and means” to defend it against the U.S. dollars, thus ensuring stability in its value with increased inflow of Foreign Direct Investment aided by confidence in Nigeria’s economy. (Global rating Institutions like Fitch have upgraded Nigeria to “B”. Moody upgraded Nigeria to “B3 while S&P upgraded Nigeria to “B”. Most of these rated Nigeria negatively before now.

“Tinubu has introduced the legacy Students’ Loan scheme through the establishment of NELFUND. This provides students with a yearly tuition fee and monthly upkeep allowances. Funding will no longer be a challenge to the tertiary educational hope of any Nigerian Student again.”

Tinubu signs insurance reform bill into law to boost financial sector, drive $1tn economy vision

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Bill, 2025, a major legislative milestone aimed at overhauling the nation’s insurance sector and accelerating Nigeria’s progress toward a $1 trillion economy.

The new law, now known as the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025, repeals and consolidates outdated insurance legislation into a single, modern framework.

It establishes comprehensive regulation and supervision of all insurance and reinsurance operations across the country.

In a statement issued Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the landmark legislation was described as a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for financial sector transformation.

“This development reaffirms the administration’s commitment to financial stability, economic development, and inclusive growth,” the statement said.

The NIIRA 2025 ushers in a new era of transparency, innovation, and global competitiveness in the Nigerian insurance landscape.

It introduces wide-ranging reforms designed to strengthen investor confidence, protect consumers, and expand industry reach.

Key provisions of the Act include stringent capital requirements for insurance firms to guarantee financial soundness, enforcement of compulsory insurance policies for enhanced consumer protection, and the digitisation of the insurance market to boost access and operational efficiency.

The Act also enforces zero tolerance for delays in claims settlement and mandates the creation of dedicated policyholder protection funds to safeguard customers in the event of insurer insolvency.

Furthermore, it expands Nigeria’s participation in regional insurance schemes such as the ECOWAS Brown Card System.

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has been tasked with administering and implementing the provisions of the Act.

The Commission is expected to drive reforms that will significantly raise insurance penetration, improve industry performance, and unlock new investment opportunities.

With the signing of the NIIRA 2025, Nigeria is poised to reposition itself as a major insurance hub in Africa.

The reform is expected to catalyse sectoral growth, boost job creation, and serve as a strong foundation for achieving the administration’s $1 trillion economy target.

President Tinubu’s assent to the legislation is the latest in a series of bold moves aimed at modernising Nigeria’s financial architecture and promoting inclusive economic development through stronger regulatory frameworks.

Borgu communities commend Tinubu for superhighway project

The Lagos–Badagry, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto, and Kebbi superhighway, initiated and approved by the Tinubu administration, has been described as one project capable of improving the economic activities of the inhabitants of the affected communities in Kwara and Niger States.

Some of the affected villages include Kada, Madele, Kusaka, Dongo Lamba, Auna, Kure, Madunguru, Yargu, Shafachi, New Kali (along Kaiama road), Yangba, Kwaroin, the Federal College of Wildlife Management, Kontagora, Mairigyara, Janyau, Faku, and Kpatachi.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, the Community Leader in New Kali, Borgu local government area of Niger State, Bala Ubandoma, made this known along the Kaiama road during the visit of the consultant, Messrs TSL Engineering Nigeria Ltd, who, alongside other staff from the Minna office of the Federal Controller of Works, surveyed the areas.

The consultant, Messrs TSL Engineering, before the survey, paid homage to the Emir of Borgu, where he solicited the support of the emirate in enlightening the affected communities for the successful conduct of the survey.

There is no doubt that the superhighway, which will pass through the mentioned communities, will improve economic and farming activities, as most of the inhabitants are farmers, fishermen, and traders.

No administration, after the Abacha administration that rehabilitated the Mokwa–Kainji road through the PTF, has undertaken any significant intervention until now.

The Tinubu administration is linking these communities with the superhighway.

Ubandoma commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and particularly Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who hails from one of the benefiting states, Sokoto.

Ubandoma called for support for Tinubu’s road infrastructure projects, which are cutting across all parts of Nigeria.

He emphasised that, instead of unjustified criticisms, there is a need for proper inquiry into the projects being undertaken under President Tinubu.

“So far, the Kaiama–Kishi road awarded by Tinubu is ongoing. Similarly, the government/private sector-supported BUA Bode Saadu–Kaiama road is ongoing. President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to the well-being of Nigerians and the delivery of democracy dividends,” he said.

Ubandoma, however, implored President Tinubu to please re-award the Wawa–Kainji 62-kilometre road, which was abandoned by previous administrations. Kainji, Kaiama, and Baruten communities are predominantly farming communities.

Education and Tech Coalition of Activists and Social Entrepreneurs have applauded President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, over significant reforms that have brought significant solutions to primary education across the country.

The coalition, through its co-chairs, Olaonipekun Kazeem, the Executive Director of the Focus Teens Foundation and Olamide Apejoye, Head of the Developing Engineering Leaders stated this in a joint statement on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The coalition stated that President Tinubu went out of his way to recruit Aisha Garba from the World Bank, signalling the seriousness of his administration towards educational reforms in Nigeria.

The statement partly read, “UBEC under the leadership of Aisha Garba as its Executive Secretary have implemented reforms that have directly impacted basic education across the country. Out-of-school children are getting back in classrooms, while some are accessing school for the first time. Her leadership has also improved the quality of education through the upgrade of learning tools and teaching in order to increase positive outcomes.

“This would have been impossible without the help and support of President Tinubu, who went out of his way to bring Dr Garba from the World Bank, signalling how important his administration is keen on education reforms in Nigeria.”

Similarly, founder of Alpha Reach, JJ Omojuwa, in a post on X earlier today, also commended the ES, Aisha Garba for being able to allow states in the country access grants to improve the quality of basic education.

He said, “For two decades, an ordinary document created a stumbling block for states to access matching grants. This meant stalled access to education for many children. Aisha changed that!”

Omojuwa added, “She reformed the system by removing long-standing bureaucratic cogs and helped to open access to the states who are now able to do a lot more than ever as they plug into the UBEC matching grants.

“This has led to over 60% fund utilisation – a record, impacted about 3 million children, led to the distribution of 6m books to primary schools nationwide, about half a million library materials and other such interventions. States now feel more like partners in education development with the FG, all thanks to reforms led by Dr Aisha Garba.”

He also noted that Garba had managed a $3 Billion project portfolio across multiple countries whilst working with the World Bank, supervising the design, execution, and evaluation of large-scale education and skills development programs in Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, Ghana and many other countries. He stated that despite being a few months in, Garba’s reforms have began to affect the country’s educational development.

Many Nigerians have also been commending UBEC through various social media platforms.

On X, Mazi NnaEmeka posted, “didn’t come in to play politics, she came in to work, and she’s already breaking 20-year barriers that kept millions of children from accessing education.”

HighChiefOkoro also posted, “This is what purposeful leadership looks like. No noise, just results. @AishaMGarba is proving that with the right competence and vision, even the most rigid systems can be reformed for impact.”

These, among many other such comments are remarks by Nigerians who have been impressed by the ongoing reforms in the country’s primary education sector under Dr. Aisha Garba.
