  • Tinubu’s North ambassadors

    Tinubu’s North ambassadors

When they met last week, Tinubu a appointees and APC bigwigs showcased the north for the president. It was an impressive outing as counterweight against cries from hegemonists like Kwankwaso and Boss Mustapha.

What the north needs is accountability and facts. That is what the Kaduna meeting set in motion. But the sort of engagement I had advocated was for Tinubu’s appointees to do individual interactions with the northern poor, and showcase what they are doing.

President Tinubu gave the north portfolios not for chop chop but for work work. The north’s main problems include education, healthcare, food and security. All those in charge of these areas in the cabinet are northerners, except education but the minister of state is from the north. There are other portfolios where northerners run important positions.

That is the next step for Tinubu’s northern ambassadors. They should go each to the grassroots and evangelise their doing. Let the agriculture minister go from Sokoto to Dutse to southern Kaduna and engage with the people, and let them know that they are working to stamp out hunger. To do is not enough, even if the recipient is enjoying it. He will have to be told or someone else can do two things. One, the masses can be told that what they get is not from the government, or that it is not what they should be getting. Facts are not enough. They can be twisted. Facts can become lies in a clever tongue. Evangelists are important because they can redress the facts. What is before them is what they tell you it is. Reality is not as obvious as we think. Someone can tell me today that my work is not mine, and with arguments, they may be right.

The ministers and advisers should stop placing their lamps under their gorgeous desks in Abuja. Of all of them, NSA Nuhu Ribadu is up and doing. More, though, can be done.

Tinubu hails Abdul Samad Rabiu at 65, calls him “trusted partner in nationhood”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to prominent industrialist and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, describing him as “a builder of industry and a partner in nationhood.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, President Tinubu praised the Chairman of BUA Group for a life of “quiet excellence, courageous enterprise, and unwavering faith in Nigeria.”

“Abdul Samad Rabiu is a builder in every sense. He has built industries, empowered people, uplifted communities, and continues to invest in the future of our country—not for applause, but out of duty and conviction. Nigeria is proud of him, and I am proud to call him a trusted partner in our nation’s progress”, President Tinubu declared.

The President lauded Rabiu’s transformative contributions to Nigeria’s industrial landscape, noting that his investments span strategic sectors such as cement, food, sugar, steel, ports, power, and more recently, oil and gas.

“These are not just business ventures,” the President remarked, “they are bold declarations of what is possible when vision meets discipline and ambition is anchored in purpose.”

President Tinubu commended Rabiu’s calm and visionary leadership, citing the thousands of jobs created through his enterprises, the deepening of Nigeria’s industrial capacity, and the renewed confidence his efforts have inspired in indigenous enterprise and local production.

The statement also highlighted the philanthropic reach of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), which continues to execute high-impact interventions in education, healthcare, and social development across Nigeria and the African continent.

“Through ASR Africa, he has quietly but consistently improved lives, built institutions, and expanded access to opportunity for millions,” the President said.

Describing Rabiu as one of Africa’s most accomplished businessmen and a patriot whose legacy will endure for generations, Tinubu wished him continued strength, wisdom, and good health.

President Tinubu, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @officialABAT, just hours before the final, said the delegation represents “the full weight of our national pride, belief, and support” for the team.

“Our girls have shown character, discipline, and the Nigerian spirit in every game. As they prepare for the final, we stand behind them—not just as fans, but as a grateful nation inspired by their excellence,” the President said, encouraging the team to “go for gold, go for glory.”

Tagged with the hashtag #MissionV, the President’s message reflects Nigeria’s confidence in D’Tigress to extend their dominance in African women’s basketball with a fifth straight championship.

The D’Tigress, who remain unbeaten in AfroBasket competition for a decade, are set to face their final opponent in what has been dubbed a decisive showcase of skill, resilience, and national pride.

Victory would not only reaffirm Nigeria’s supremacy on the continent but also bolster its growing profile on the global basketball stage.

  • 2027: Opposition coalition lacks capacity to unseat Tinubu – Senator Husain

2027: Opposition coalition lacks capacity to unseat Tinubu – Senator Husain

A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Senator Mudashiru Husain, has dismissed the opposition coalition under African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a group of self-serving politicians lacking ideology and direction.

Husain said that the coalition lacks the capacity to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, saying  that the general election would be a walkover for the APC.

The APC chieftain in a statement made available to journalist on Sunday, exuded confidence that the would spend eight years in office uninterruptedly and hand over to a worthy progressives’ successor in 2031.

He described the coalition as a “sinking ship” driven by personal interests as well as vengeance, noting that Nigerians have seen through their theatrics and are no longer swayed by empty promises.

He also criticized the opposition leaders, accusing them of hypocrisy, deceit, and desperation, saying that Nigerians have not forgotten their reckless gestures and unpatriotic dispositions while in power.

“It’s no news that the said coalition is a sinking ship with holes below the waterline, which homes a cabal of has-beens collectively ignited by inordinate ambition, spite and vengeance, and bound to collapse due to its weight of contradictions. It is an amalgam stitched together with thread of bitterness and ambition with no fresh ideas but to resort to alliance-building for optics, and not impact

“This ragtag of malcontents and a blend of old guard driven by selfish motive under the pretense of rescue mission, is like a snake shedding its skin but still venomous. Nigerians have gone beyond their theatrics because they are like vultures circling a carcass to milk the country dry”, he added.

Husain explained that President Tinubu-led federal government has delivered on its campaign promises, steering Nigeria through global economic volatility and driving strategic reforms that promote socio-economic prosperity and engender development.

The APC governorship aspirant added that Tinubu’s people-centered policies and governance driven by results have earned him a legacy that no coalition can obliterate.

He said, “Nigerians can’t be swayed any longer because the period of political fireworks without blueprint for development is long gone, as President Tinubu is gradually delivering on his campaign promises. His administration is akin to quality leadership by steering Nigeria through the turbulence of global economic volatility, while driving though reforms which is already repositioning the country to socioeconomic prosperity.

“President Tinubu’s stellar achievements are not just on paper but felt in real terms, ranging from bold removal of fuel subsidy and decisive unification of forex exchange for long-term fiscal sustainability, to massive investment in critical infrastructure, security re-engineering, digital economy and human capital developments such as student loan, conditional cash transfer, among others.

“It’s glaring enough that no coalition, regardless of how they chant good governance can obliterate the enduring legacy of a leader who has prioritized people-centred policies and governance driven by results and not rhetorics. Tinubu’s administration may not be perfect like any other, but it’s straightforward, courageous, reform-driven and committed to the nation’s stability – qualities which the coalition is lacking.

“It’s shocking that the same attention-seeking politicians who have repeatedly betrayed Nigerians’ trust by flip-flopping ideologically based on where to cling on relevance and satisfy their gluttonous desires, now parade themselves as vanguards of democracy. They should know that Nigerians have not forgotten their rudderless, reckless and unpatriotic dispositions while in power.

“It should be noted that President Tinubu is not shaken at all by their shenanigans as his reelection will be well decided by the masses, not the coalition based on his impressive scorecards. The opposition can continue to assemble under different banners, but so long their drive is fueled by vested interests of vendetta and power-grabbing instead of blueprint, they are no threat to the progressive tide sweeping the entire country”, the APC chieftain added.

  • Tinubu has built the runway, now governors must let the people fly

Tinubu has built the runway, now governors must let the people fly

It began with celebration and ended with conviction. From the emotional highs of the Super Falcons’ historic 10th WAFCON triumph in Morocco to a decisive week of statecraft in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sustained a hectic but profoundly symbolic week of leadership. It was a week where he moved from encouraging sporting excellence to institutionalising grassroots economic empowerment, all while pressing Nigeria’s governors to shift from political posturing to practical delivery.

While Monday was reserved for adulation and joy, Thursday was about reckoning. The President, in full command of both the emotional and policy arenas of governance, met with the National Economic Council (NEC) and did not mince words. He tasked the governors—many of whom had enjoyed soaring revenues in recent months—to match his administration’s macroeconomic victories with tangible action at the lowest levels of society. His charge was direct: let the wealth flow down to the wards, to the very soil of the republic and let the poor breathe.

The outcome was the formal endorsement of the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme—a bold, sweeping initiative designed to drill the gains of Nigeria’s recovering economy directly into the country’s 8,809 wards. This was not mere policy theorising. This was Tinubu forcing the hand of the political class to embrace real federalism through shared economic responsibility.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, speaking after the NEC meeting, captured the moment succinctly: “The President came up with a programme that will fast-track the process of this additional money creating a bigger impact on Nigerians by making sure that it trickles down to the grassroots.” That is Tinubu’s central thesis—economic reform means little unless it is felt in homes, farms, workshops, and marketplaces across Nigeria.

To be clear, President Tinubu’s economic reforms are no longer speculative theories—they are validated and praised by global institutions. The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its 2025 Article IV Consultation, applauded Nigeria’s post-subsidy macroeconomic recalibration. Higher federation revenues, a stabilised naira, and increased oil output are signs of renewed strength. But Tinubu knows what the people feel is more important than what analysts write.

So when he stood before governors last week, it wasn’t to revel in progress—it was to press for delivery.

And that’s where the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme breaks the mold. Anchored by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, this plan targets 1,000 economically active individuals in each ward, empowering them to drive local production, generate employment, and combat poverty from the bottom up. This is the economics of empowerment, not entitlement. This is Tinubu saying: “I have built the runway; now let your people fly.”

As Minister Atiku Bagudu rightly observed, “Having stabilised the macroeconomy, the next step is to drill down development to the lowest levels.” And there’s no lower and more foundational unit in Nigeria’s political structure than the ward. If democracy must serve, let it begin at the roots. This is the constitutional vision that President Tinubu is resurrecting, inspired by Chapter Two of the 1999 Constitution which mandates all governments to ensure the prosperity and welfare of the people.

But Thursday’s NEC meeting was only the climax of a persistent campaign that had begun even before Tinubu became President and recalled just a week earlier at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. There, President Tinubu spoke bluntly to the governors elected under the ruling party’s platform. “Nigerians are still complaining at the grassroots,” he declared. “You have to wet the grass more”. In one poetic turn of phrase, he laid bare the imbalance between macroeconomic gains and microeconomic experience.

He has been consistent in this. From urging states to deploy new federal revenues more creatively to calling for more state-level investment in food security and security infrastructure, Tinubu has never hidden his view that Nigeria’s true development lies beyond Abuja. It lies in the hinterlands—in places often forgotten once elections end.

Last week, the President took one more step in closing that governance gap. He made it clear that the era of “federated aloofness” is over. Every tier of government must co-own and co-drive development. The federal government alone cannot bear the burden of revitalising the nation.

Yet, amid all the weighty statecraft and strategic reform, President Tinubu did not forget to celebrate national excellence. If his Thursday at the NEC was about lifting people out of poverty, his Monday was about lifting the nation’s spirit.

When the victorious Super Falcons landed in Abuja fresh from their dramatic 3-2 WAFCON final win in Rabat, it wasn’t just a football team returning—it was national inspiration on parade. And Tinubu gave them a welcome worthy of history. Not only did he fulfil his promise to receive them personally at the State House, but he also institutionalised a reward culture that recognises achievement and inspires future greatness.

Each of the 24 players and 11 coaching crew received the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom apartment under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, and the Naira equivalent of $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. That’s N4.5 billion worth of appreciation (for the cash gifts)—not just in cash, but in the value it signals.

“You have inspired millions,” Tinubu told them, his voice thick with emotion. “You have inspired me, too. It’s great for a nation to have assets that are the hope of today, tomorrow, and the day after. You represent that hope”. This wasn’t just a reward; it was a cultural statement. In this administration, excellence is no longer overlooked.

He joked about his own nerves during the match, how he almost couldn’t bear to watch, and how the First Lady nearly abandoned his dinner for the final. But in those light moments, the gravity of his leadership shone through. He had not just celebrated a win; he had elevated the team into enduring symbols of national pride and possibility.

His Unyielding Commitment to Reform and Inclusion

Meanwhile, last week, President Tinubu demonstrated once again that his brand of leadership is rooted not in rhetoric but in deliberate action. From celebrating excellence in sports and youth service to tightening the bolts of institutional reform and national inclusion, the President kept faith with his Renewed Hope Agenda and did much more.

For instance on Monday, besides honouring victorious Super Falcons, Tinubu also celebrated seasoned Lagos politician, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, praising his decades of dedication to public service. On Tuesday, he gave a historic lift to youth development by awarding automatic federal employment, ₦250,000, and PhD scholarships to 200 outstanding NYSC members—an unprecedented move that speaks volumes about his belief in generational renewal.

Wednesday took a political turn, as the President received Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, an ally of Kwankwaso, in what may be the opening act of a broader realignment ahead of 2027. Yet, Tinubu showed no sign of pausing for political drama. That same day, he activated the leadership machinery for the Ogoni Federal University, empowering a long-overlooked region with transformative education infrastructure.

By Thursday, governance took centre stage. He extended the tenure of Customs CG Bashir Adeniyi to consolidate reforms, chaired a consequential FEC meeting that greenlit ₦213.7 billion in electrification projects, and kickstarted a bold ₦900 billion aviation overhaul. Before these these, he had swore in Hon. Nnana Uzor Kalu as National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) Commissioner and mourned a fallen statesman; Caleb Olubolade, who served at different time, in different capacities, in the Federal Executive Council.

And on Friday, the President turned to Nigeria’s most vocal generation—digital influencers. He challenged them to build, not break; to verify, not vilify. His message was clear: the future is now, and it is theirs to shape—with truth, unity, and responsibility. Tinubu isn’t merely governing—he is leading with purpose.

Indeed, it is this duality—policy reform and human celebration—that defines Tinubu’s governance. He understands that numbers must walk in tandem with narratives. That a government must both feed the body and lift the soul. In one week, he led an economic transformation agenda and made sports heroes of our daughters. That is the balance of leadership.

But now the governors must step up. President Tinubu has opened the door to wealth redistribution by stabilising Nigeria’s macroeconomic landscape. He has secured federation revenues, liberalised forex, and begun correcting the country’s fiscal posture. But if the wards—the beating hearts of Nigeria’s communities—do not benefit, the gains will ring hollow.

The Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is not just another federal policy. It is a clarion call to state governments: the era of blaming Abuja is over. The President has brought Nigeria to a turning point, but the states must walk the people across it.

No governor, no local council chairman, no party leader has an excuse anymore. The roadmap has been drawn. The resources are flowing. The people are watching.

As the President said “we must invest more. Not just in infrastructure, but in our people.” He is doing just that—one ward, one policy, one celebration at a time.

So, whether it is through rewarding the Super Falcons or realigning national revenue to touch the poor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is proving that governance must be both compassionate and consequential. He has moved the conversation from politics to performance.

And now, the rest of Nigeria’s political class must catch up. The time of excuses is over. The age of delivery has begun.

Dr Leon Usigbe: A Torchbearer Now at Rest

In the often unforgiving world of journalism, where deadlines chase by the minute and truth must be pursued through storms, Dr Leon Habby Usigbe stood tall—a dependable compass of clarity, courage, and quiet conviction. News of his passing on Friday, July 25, at the age of 62, struck a chilling chord through the corridors of the State House and among colleagues nationwide.

‘Dr Leon’, as he was fondly called by those who knew him—whether colleague or President—was more than the Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja; he was the embodiment of principled reporting. Sharp-witted and ethically grounded, he chronicled power not to flatter it, but to question it, always in service of the people’s right to know.

He was a familiar and respected presence in the State House Press Corps. One of the oldest among us, yet the fastest on the keys, Leon showed that professionalism never ages. He typed with the urgency of a cub reporter and the wisdom of a newsroom elder. His spirit was undimmed by time.

Beyond the beat, he was a family man, disciplined, health-conscious, and personable—a standard many of us quietly admired. That his departure came amid a perplexing battle with unclear ailments only deepens the ache of our loss.

For me, his death is personal. From Port Harcourt to Abuja, we shared more than bylines—we shared a bond.

Sleep on, Dr Leon. The newsroom mourns, the nation remembers. And we, your friends, will not forget.

Alleged north marginalization: Onuesoke faults Kwankwaso’s claim on Tinubu

The Chairman/ CEO of DAS Energy Services Limited, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has faulted  Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso’ s claim  that President  Bola Tinubu is marginalizing the Northern  part of Nigeria.

Recall that Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, while speaking during a Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment, organised by the Kano State government, accused Tinubu’s administration of sidelining the northern region.

He alleged that national resources are being disproportionately channeled towards developing the South, the President’s home region, just as he attributed rising poverty and insecurity as well as deteriorating infrastructure to the neglect of the region by the Tinubu’s administration.

Reacting to Kwankwaso’s alleged claim, while responding to questions from journalists at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on the issue, Onuesoke, and prominent Delta State political analyst described the assertion as misleading and politically motivated.  He argued that President Tinubu has in fact demonstrated a national outlook in appointments and development initiatives, with the North not left out.

Onuesoke pointed out that   records available to Nigerians revealed that the Federal government has even executed more  projects in the North than in the South, adding that  when a former Senator Kwankwaso makes such farfetched allegations, one begins to wonder what he intends to achieve.

On Infrastructure and investments, Onuesoke disclosed  that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has delivered targeted infrastructure across the north, such as the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway to  enhancing connectivity from Abuja into the North which  includes airport linkage in Kano, major rural and agricultural road projects flagged off across Northern states.

“The Greater Abuja Water Supply Network (Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6) was recently inaugurated, designed to serve districts across FCT including its Northern corridor. These projects underscores equitable public service access under Tinubu’s administration.

“President  Tinubu has not marginalised the North,  rather he has made  strategic appointments and tangible infrastructure efforts across the region from rail connectivity and major highways to water supply systems. His administration is actively fostering unity, equity, and development in line with Nigeria’s constitutional Federal Character principle.

“It is unfortunate that some leaders use ethnic or regional sentiments to push personal political agendas. If you look critically at Tinubu’s key appointments and projects, the North has benefited significantly. From ministerial positions to key security and economic roles, Northerners are strongly represented,” Onuesoke noted.

Onuesoke who was former Delta State gubernatorial aspirants urged national leaders to promote unity rather than stoke regional division, especially at a time when the country needs healing and cooperation across all zones.

While emphasizing on the importance of leaders focusing on performance and accountability rather than using the narrative of marginalization for political leverage, Onuesoke urged   President Tinubu to stay focused on delivering good governance, warning that playing to regional pressures could derail efforts to reposition Nigeria.

“I call on Nigerians, including Kwankwaso to “reject divisive rhetoric, and embrace factual dialogue, and support a government that spans the entire nation in vision and implementation,” he advised.

Tinubu greets former VP Sambo at 71

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to former Vice President Namadi Sambo on his 71st birthday, praising him as a man of integrity, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to national unity.

In a statement on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the former Vice President as “an elder statesman” whose career in public service continues to inspire confidence in Nigeria’s democratic and regional institutions.

Sambo, a renowned architect, served as Kaduna Governor from 2007 to 2010 before becoming Vice President under President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015.

Tinubu commended the role Sambo played during his tenure, noting the “mutual respect” that defined his working relationship with President Jonathan, both in office and beyond.

“Vice President Sambo is a man of integrity and loyalty who is deeply committed to Nigeria’s unity and stability,” Tinubu said.

The President also acknowledged Sambo’s continued involvement in regional peace and democratic development, citing his leadership of ECOWAS Election Observation Missions to Ghana in December 2024 and to Niger Republic during the December 2020 and February 2021 polls.

In his tribute, Tinubu also commended Sambo for his ongoing support for peace-building efforts in Kaduna State, particularly his collaboration with Governor Uba Sani in promoting religious tolerance and statewide stability.

The President wished the former Vice President continued good health and many more years of service to the nation and the West African subregion.

Gbajabiamila urges northern leaders to back Tinubu’s second term bid

Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila has called on northern political leaders to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila, who made the appeal during the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which he hosted in Abuja, described President Tinubu as a leader whose track record and commitment to national unity warrant unwavering support.

He charged the forum to mobilize support for Tinubu’s administration and his second-term ambition.

The former Speaker said Nigeria’s development rests on unity, continuity, and adherence to political agreements.

“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along. From critical infrastructure to policy reforms, the North is benefitting from a government that believes in equity and shared prosperity,” Gbajabiamila said.

He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects across Northern Nigeria, including road networks, rail line expansions, and agricultural revitalization efforts, as evidence of the administration’s balanced approach to national development.

“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” Gbajabiamila said.

National Chairman of the Forum, Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, lauded the Northern Caucus for what he termed a “bold and patriotic stand.”

“This resolution by the Northern Caucus is a significant statement of statesmanship. It shows leadership that transcends personal or regional interest. I am confident that more zones will follow this example in the spirit of unity and continuity,” Igbokwe remarked.

Following deliberations, the Northern Caucus issued a communiqué endorsing the Southern Presidency and President Tinubu’s second-term aspiration.

The document was co-signed by Hon. Rufai Chanchangi, Coordinator of the Northern Caucus, and Hon. Atiwurcha, Secretary of the Caucus.

“As partners in nation building, we subscribe to issues that unite us as a people for the peace and progress of our nation, Nigeria. We align to the unifying foundation of our country which relates to the rotation of power between the NORTH and SOUTH. We advocate that the south be allowed to complete their tenure.

“The forum is of the belief that it will be in the best interest of the north for the incumbent to complete the tenure of the south.” the communiqué declared.

The 2025 Dialogue Session is part of a series of nationwide consultations by the Forum aimed at fostering inclusive governance and ensuring a smooth democratic transition.

The Northern Caucus of National Forum of Former Legislators at the end of the 2025 Dialogue Session, appreciated the efforts of government so far, but urged more efforts to address security challenges, especially in Zamfara, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, Niger among others.

The forum said the dialogue session accorded the opportunity to engage with representatives of former legislators from the northern part of the country for proper understanding of government actions and directions.

While the forum appreciated the COS for the engagement, it urged the government to engage more with critical stakeholders for better delivery.

Onuesoke, who was former Delta gubernatorial aspirants, urged national leaders to promote unity rather than stoke regional division, especially at a time when the country needs healing and cooperation across all zones.

While emphasising on the importance of leaders focusing on performance and accountability rather than using the narrative of marginalization for political leverage, Onuesoke urged   President Tinubu to stay focused on delivering good governance, warning that playing to regional pressures could derail efforts to reposition Nigeria.

“I call on Nigerians, including Kwankwaso to “reject divisive rhetoric, and embrace factual dialogue, and support a government that spans the entire nation in vision and implementation,” he advised.
