The Arewa Community in Delta State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for re-election in 2027.

They also formally announced their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and called on fellow northerners across Nigeria to support the current administration.

At a rally held in Asaba on Thursday, the community praised the leadership qualities of both Tinubu and Oborevwori, citing ongoing development projects and inclusive governance as key reasons for their continued support.

In an address delivered by their leader and Chairman of the Delta State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Auwalu Tukur, the Arewa community acknowledged President Tinubu’s efforts in stabilising Nigeria’s economy and strengthening national unity, stressing that his administration deserves a second term to consolidate its current progress.

He said, “We want to pledge our absolute support and loyalty to the government of His Excellency Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

They declared their support and loyalty to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, commending his administration for its remarkable achievements in governance, development, and inclusivity.

They praised Oborevwori’s leadership, noting that under his watch, Delta has become the “fastest growing state in the entire West African Sub-Region.”

They praised Governor Oborevwori for transforming Delta into what the community described as a “construction site,” highlighting the rapid infrastructure development and the inclusion of its members in key governmental roles, including appointments as Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, and Board Chairmen.

“We are most grateful to your administration,” the statement noted. “Many of our members have been appointed to various offices… we truly appreciate you because we have never had it this good.”

The community declared full support for Oborevwori’s re-election bid in 2027, affirming: “Where Sheriff goes, we go. We stand with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”

According to him, Anyaoku should be commended for promoting democracy, good governance and world peace in the course of his service.

“We must invest in education as it is the greatest weapon against poverty. We are doing so believing we have leaders like Emeka Anyaoku.

2027: We are not leaving APC, solidly behind Tinubu – CPC bloc leaders

Leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have unequivocally declared their loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and support for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in 2027.

The group distances itself from the Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Abubakar Malami (SAN) led faction of the defunct CPC, which is currently in coalition talks with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The leaders of the defunct CPC, led by the former Nasarawa State Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, include Dr. Dikko Radda, Gov. of Katsina State, Rt. Hon. Bello Masari, former Kastina State governor, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Maitama Tuga Yusuf, the NDLEA Chairman, Gen. Buba Marwa, former APC National Secretary, Arch. Waziri Bulama, Hon. Mohammed Datti Garba – APC National Vice Chairman (North West); Sen. Lanre Tejuoso, former NASS members led by Hon. Babale Ila; Hajiya Aisha, National Vice Women Leader (North West), and Hon. Ginaka Tor.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, the Chairman of the CPC bloc in APC and former Nasarawa State governor, Senator Al-Makura, declared their unalloyed loyalty to the ruling party and vowed to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Declaring their position, Al-Makura said, “We have come together today with clarity, unity, and purpose. We are here to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals that brought us together in 2013, to set the records straight, and to send a clear message to all Nigerians that the former CPC majority stakeholders remain strong, united, and deeply loyal to the All Progressives Congress and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

The former governor dismissed as misinformation reports that the CPC bloc in the ruling party has left the APC. He maintained that the bloc is united and solidly in the APC.

According to Al-Makura, “Recent developments have seen a flood of speculation and misinformation about the position of the former CPC within the APC. Let it be known clearly that we have not left the APC.

“We are very much here, standing tall, standing proud, and standing firm within the party that we helped to found through sweat, sacrifice, and patriotic commitment. We remain part and parcel of the APC family.

“We recall with pride how we in the CPC, in collaboration with other patriots in ACN, ANPP, APGA, DPP, and nPDP contributed enormously to the spirit of unity and national cohesion that led to the defeat of an incumbent government in 2015, and ushered in a new era under the leadership of our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari. It is this spirit of sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to Nigeria’s future that guides our every action.”

Admitting that the country may be facing some challenges, the former governor expressed optimism that the President Tinubu-led administration’s policies and reforms will see the country out of the woods.

“Today, under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria faces challenging but necessary reforms. As responsible citizens and co-founders of this political party, we believe that now more than ever, we must remain steadfast, patient, and supportive.

“We commend the bold steps taken by President Tinubu, and we urge Nigerians to trust the process, knowing that the foundation being laid today will lead to a more prosperous and secure future.”

The group also appealed to all aggrieved members of the party to seek the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanism to seek redress rather than resorting to anti-party activities.

“To our brothers and sisters who may feel aggrieved, we urge them to explore options within the party to resolve their grievances through dialogue, patience, and perseverance. True loyalty is tested not in times of comfort but in times of travail.

“We urge all to use the structures and constitutional avenues forward, we do so with renewed strength, a deep sense of responsibility, and an unshakable commitment to the APC and the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and ultimately, the future of our beloved country.”

  • Why ‘Nigeria First’ policy is long overdue, by Tinubu’s aide

Why ‘Nigeria First’ policy is long overdue, by Tinubu’s aide

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Foreign Affairs, Ademola Oshodi, has said the administration’s “Nigeria First” policy is not only necessary but long overdue,. He stressed that the country must reduce its over-reliance on imported goods.

Speaking during an interview on a national television  yesterday, Oshodi likened the approach to the “America First” policy, stating that Nigeria has for too long functioned as an import-dependent economy, especially in areas like refined petroleum products.

“Now we have the Dangote refinery and others coming up,” he said.

“We are no longer where we used to be -importing refined products. We’re finally moving toward self-reliance.”

Oshodi’s previous article on how an African First resonates with this new bold initiative of the Nigerian government.

He explained that the ‘Nigeria First’ policy is built around optimising local production, reducing the pressure on foreign exchange, and attracting investments that will strengthen the country’s economic base.

He said: “Nigeria first policy gives us the memories of the American administration of America first. I believe it’s something that is not just necessary. It’s long overdue. It’s because Nigeria’s been a very much of an import country. We import a lot of our products, processed and in many ways, refined.

“Of course, the market people still compete and bring refined products in. But Nigeria is moving away from that imported culture. So, we have self-reliance that the Nigeria first policy thinks about is way overdue.

“We have a tremendous amount of human resources, natural resources, and we have a lot of investments coming in, a lot of investments being attracted by the president. But to his foreign travels and attracting people bringing in money for livestock, issues of finance, we’re getting loans. We have an infrastructure fund coming in.

“So, it’s a great time to think more about what we can produce rather than what we can import, which, in many ways, when we import these, it exacerbates our foreign exchange issues. So, we have more pressure to get dollars, which in many ways affects our currency.

He acknowledged that past efforts, such as Executive Order 5 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, laid the groundwork, but argued that what differentiates Tinubu’s administration is leadership and the will to implement.

“The difference is leadership. President Tinubu is determined to build a $1 trillion economy. We now have a leader who is focused on making existing laws and policies actually work,” Oshodi stated.

He added, “Well, the difference is the leadership of the country. We have a new president who is very determined to ensure the Nigerian economy is structured to a more reliable and self-sufficient, and sustainable economic base, something that we can build on to have an economy that would give us about $1 trillion, worth over $1 trillion. So, leadership is different now.

“We also have acts, legislation has been put in place, local content, which is also ensuring that Nigerians take the helm, and many of these companies, these foreign companies that come to Nigeria. It’s not just having those acts, but having somebody who can drive it, somebody who is determined to make those laws alive, to keep them alive. It’s one thing to create laws and acts, it’s one thing to ensure that it’s purposeful.

“And we’ve seen with this president, he’s very determined. He’s very determined to ensure the right things are done. Regardless, I mean, though we go through short-term pain, the medium and long-term gain is something that is well in his sight and is focused on. So, this is not business as usual, I should say. And I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt.”

Touching on global trade dynamics, Oshodi noted that rising protectionism, especially the U.S. raising tariffs under President Donald Trump, should push Nigeria to rethink its dependency on Western markets.

He urged Nigeria to explore trade opportunities with the East, citing China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and South Africa as key targets.

He also warned that with the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) expiring in September 2025 and unlikely to be renewed, Nigeria must open new markets for its products.

On foreign policy, Oshodi highlighted the administration’s “4D” approach—Democracy, Demography, Development, and Diaspora, saying that Tinubu’s global engagement is focused on security, investment, and multilateral partnerships such as with BRICS, G20, and ECOWAS.

He emphasised the need to secure Nigeria’s borders, combat piracy, and ensure that trade agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) are maximally leveraged.

“This is not business as usual. The president’s reforms are about building a sustainable and secure future. We’re putting Nigeria first—not just as a slogan, but as an economic and diplomatic reality,” Oshodi concluded.

Alleged coalition against Tinubu ‘political hallucination’-Presidency

The Presidency on Wednesday dismissed ongoing speculations about a surging political coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing the narrative as nothing more than a “political hallucination.”

A post by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, posted on his verified X stated: “To say a political coalition is surging when in fact no one is interested in it is a political hallucination.”

The Presidency pointed to the clear disinterest expressed by major political figures and institutions in any such alliance.

“The Governors’ Forum of PDP said they are not interested, the NWC of PDP said same. Peter Obi recently said he is not in any coalition talks, Labour Party people said they are not interested,” Bwala wrote.

In contrast, the Presidency highlighted the growing strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the party has been attracting key opposition figures, including high-profile defectors.

“Meanwhile in contrast, the party surging is APC; receiving defectors left, right and centre including a former vice presidential candidate of PDP in the 2023 elections,” the statement added.

“It is not a coalition, but hallucination,” Bwala concluded.

The Presidency reaffirmed that President Tinubu remains focused on delivering his Renewed Hope Agenda and is not distracted by speculative political manoeuvring.

According to the Special Adviser, the administration remains confident in its widespread support across the country and views the current political climate as favourable to its ongoing reforms and governance agenda.

Tinubu’s strategic funding enhances NAF’s counterinsurgency operations – CAS

…says over 3,496 terrorists killed in Northeast

Over 3,496 suspected terrorists have been killed in the Northeastern part of Nigeria from June 2023 to date, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has revealed.

He said more than 121,000 insurgents and their families surrendered to security forces within the same period.

The Air Chief disclosed this whole delivering a lecture titled “Military Strategic Leadership in Air Operations: My Perspective” on Tuesday at the Air Force War College (AFWC), Makurdi, Benue State.

A statement yesterday by the Director of Public Relations and Information (DORPI), Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the CAS attributed the successes recorded in counterinsurgency operations to the strategic investments made by the government of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the funding, including the recent delivery of nine new critical air assets, significantly bolstered the NAF’s operational capabilities with resultant tangible impact on the country’s ongoing counterinsurgency and national security operations.

The Air Chief said the addition of the nine air assets enabled more precise and sustained operations across various theatres of operations, adding that the service was expecting an additional 49 platforms, with several of them due for delivery in the coming months.

“These platforms (nine delivered) are already making a measurable impact in key operations geared towards enhancing national security.

“These acquisitions will further expand the service’s capacity to execute complex missions and maintain momentum in ongoing air operations,” he said.

Providing an overview of operational achievements, the CAS disclosed that in the past year alone, the NAF has flown over 4,500 hours across 2,304 sorties, executing nearly 2,000 counterinsurgency missions. Additionally, over 2,600 anti-banditry sorties were carried out, resulting in 4,670 hours of flight time.

In support of efforts to combat economic sabotage, the NAF conducted 366 sorties targeting crude oil theft and illegal refining, amassing more than 1,450 hours of flight time. “These figures are not mere statistics; they represent real missions, real risks, and real outcomes,” the CAS said.

On the economic front, Air Marshal Abubakar noted the significant contribution of air operations under Operation DELTA SAFE. “Through the strategic deployment of both kinetic and non-kinetic air power, we have disrupted oil theft syndicates and secured critical infrastructure,” he said.

He cited recent data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission indicating a 13% increase in crude oil and condensate production in Q4 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, an outcome directly linked to the effectiveness of sustained air operations in collaboration with other security agencies.

Concluding his address, the CAS urged the next generation of Air Force leaders to embrace the challenges of strategic command.

“You are the future of air power in Nigeria. Your leadership, professionalism, and resolve will shape the Air Force’s ability to respond to present and future security challenges.”
