…backs Trump on killings, insists U.S. targeting jihadists, not Tinubu

Senate Committee Chairman on South East Development Commission (SEDC) and former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unbeatable in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that no opposition party or candidate poses any real threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the Abia North Senator described the coming presidential race as “Tinubu versus Tinubu,” arguing that the President’s policies are already stabilising the economy and strengthening national security.

“Has he gotten anyone contesting against him? The election is Tinubu vs Tinubu, just like Soludo vs Soludo,” Kalu said.

“Our party is on the ground across Nigeria and fully with the people. We will continue to support the President to make life better for the masses.”

Kalu, who also served as Chief Whip in the 9th Senate, reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to back the President’s economic recovery efforts through legislation tailored to reduce hardship and promote growth.

“Whatever the problem, the Senate is focused on making laws that will help President Tinubu overcome economic challenges. We want Nigerians to eat three times a day,” he added.

Reacting to comments credited to U.S. President Donald Trump on killings in Nigeria, Kalu said Trump “told the truth,” noting that the violence has affected both Christians and Muslims and must be confronted without religious bias.

He said, “If it’s a lie, then what’s the truth? Nigerians are being killed, Christians and Muslims alike.

“There are jihadists who want to destroy Nigeria. We must blacklist them without pity and smoke them out.”

The senator disclosed that he had previously discussed Nigeria’s security situation with two former U.S. Presidents and six sitting U.S. Senators, who expressed readiness to assist Nigeria in combating terrorism.

Kalu suggested that recent airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force may have benefited from U.S. intelligence support.

He said, “Before Trump speaks, the American intelligence community must have verified their information. You can see that our Air Force is already acting, possibly with shared intelligence from the U.S. That’s how it should be.”

While describing himself as “pro-America,” Kalu blamed much of Africa’s instability on the U.S.-led invasions of Libya and Iraq, which he said unleashed arms proliferation across the continent.

“When you killed Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein, it became a problem. They maintained their borders. After their deaths, arms spilled all over the world, we’re suffering from it today,” he said.

He dismissed claims that the U.S. was targeting President Tinubu’s administration, clarifying that Washington’s concern is focused on terrorist networks, not the Nigerian government.

“Political opponents think the U.S. is after Tinubu’s government — No! They’re going after the jihadists,” Kalu said.

Responding to rumours that Abia State Governor Alex Otti may defect from the Labour Party to the APC, Kalu said neither President Tinubu nor any APC leader has pressured anyone to join the ruling party.

He said, “Nobody is forcing anyone to join. I’ve met my governor, he’s my brother and used to be my banker.

“Whether he joins or not is up to him. But as for me, I’ll work 100 per cent for APC and ensure victory for President Tinubu and all our candidates.”

Kalu also predicted that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo would eventually join the APC.

“Soludo is a progressive like myself, President Tinubu, and Senate President Akpabio. He has no alternative but to come home, it’s confirmed,” he said.

On the economy, Kalu admitted that while Nigerians are going through tough times, the country’s macroeconomic indicators are gradually improving.

“As a businessman, I feel the pain too. The macro economy is doing well; the micro is still struggling. Foreign investors are coming, but the benefits must reach the people,” he said.

He assured that both the President and the Senate are working tirelessly to revive agriculture and restore food security.

“President Tinubu has put his life into revamping the economy. The Senate is doing its best to ensure Nigerians feel the progress,” he said.

Addressing reports of an alleged plot to unseat the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Kalu dismissed it as a mere internal disagreement.

“There were attempts, but we didn’t allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen,” he said.

The Federal Government said President Bola Tinubu has shown uncommon trust in the youths by giving them real responsibilities and opportunities to lead.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, stated this at the APC North West Youth Pally in Dutse, Jigawa state.

A statement on the minister’s speech at the event was issued by his Special Assistant on Media,  Malam Rabiu Ibrahim and made available to newsmen on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the minister reaffirmed federal government’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians through transformative programmes that promote education, job creation, and innovation.

“From cabinet appointments to digital innovation and education reforms, young Nigerians are not just part of the story, they are the drivers of it.

“Some of the major youth-focused achievements of the administration, include the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has so far disbursed ₦116 billion to over 620,000 students.

“There is also the 3MTT Programme, which has attracted nearly two million applicants in the drive to create three million digital and technical jobs nationwide.

“Similarly,  there is the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, which has certified one million Nigerians in 25 different trades, with a quarter of them already placed in training centres.

“These are not plans, they are results already being felt in schools, workshops, and communities across the country,” Idris said.

The Minister added that the Rural Electrification Agency’s Energising Education Programme is lighting up federal universities and teaching hospitals, such as Bayero University Kano and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, giving students uninterrupted power for study and research.

On economic reforms, Idris explained that the new Nigeria Tax Act, which takes effect in January 2026, would exempt small businesses earning ₦100 million or less from company income and capital gains taxes.

He noted that the move would help thousands of young entrepreneurs reinvest in their dreams and grow their businesses.

The minister also spoke on other ongoing programmes, including the MSME Clinics, the iDICE initiative, a 517 million Dollars partnership to boost the digital and creative economy, and Nigeria’s recent Eurobond oversubscription by 400 per cent.

He described it as, “clear proof of growing global confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction.”

The Minister noted that Nigeria’s recent removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List further underscored the administration’s credibility and international standing.

Idris used the platform to call on young people to shun fake news and divisive rhetoric, stressing that the future of the country lies in unity and positive action.

“Let’s use our voices and our platforms to build, not to destroy.

“Tinubu’s leadership is about giving every Nigerian, no matter where they come from, a fair chance to succeed,” he said.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a Nigeria where the energy and creativity of the youth continue to drive progress and national renewal.

Tinubu receives zonal briefs on security

Senior Special Assistants on Community Engagement who met with President Tinubu yesterday presented  a unified assessment covering insecurity, infrastructure deficits, and citizens’ response to government policies across all geopolitical zones

“Our briefing focused heavily on insecurity, and we identified historical mistrust, land-grabbing, banditry and illegal mining as major triggers of violence, ’’ they told reporters in Abuja.

The Senior Special Assistant    on Community Engagement (Northcentral), Dr Abiodun Essiet, who spoke  first,  said the   President   ‘’promised to strengthen peace structures and ensure our communities are safe ”

Essiet attributed the violence and bloodletting in the Northcentral to historical mistrust, land-grabbing, banditry and illegal mining.

She said insecurity in the region remained “deeply rooted in unresolved historical tensions and resource conflicts,” warning that the situation had been aggravated by the activities of armed groups exploiting gaps in local governance and development.

The presidential aide also linked insecurity in the zone to poor road networks along the Kogi–Kwara corridor, which she said had become a strategic advantage for bandits.

Her Northwest colleagues, Abdullahi Tanko-Yakassai, said efforts by his office were focused on reducing the region’s high number of out-of-school children.

Presenting her assessment for the Southeast, the Senior Special Assistant, Chioma Nweze, said a renewed sense of federal presence, particularly ongoing road constructions, was restoring public confidence.

“It’s been a long time since we saw federal presence in the Southeast. But now, we are seeing a lot of road construction courtesy of this administration,” Nweze said.

The  representative for the Southwest, Omoremi Ojudu, described their discussions with the President as “insightful.”

Ojudu said President Tinubu stressed the urgency of expanding enrolment for the National Identification Number (NIN) to strengthen identity management nationwide.

We’re taking power very seriously, Tinubu tells Siemens

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration is taking the task of improving power supply “very seriously,” stressing that Nigeria’s economic growth, social development, and national competitiveness all hinge on a reliable electricity system.

Speaking at a meeting with a visiting delegation from Siemens Energy on Monday at the State House, Abuja, the President said the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) remains a priority because without steady power, the country cannot achieve its industrial, educational, healthcare, and transportation goals.

“Our education, our healthcare, and our transportation all depend on energy, and without power, it is an impossible objective. We are taking it very seriously,” President Tinubu said, while assuring Siemens of the government’s full commitment to the project.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said: “There is no industrial growth or economic development without power. I believe that power is the most significant discovery of humanity in the last 1,000 years.”

The President, who met with Siemens Energy’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, Dietmar Siersdorfer, pledged that the Federal Government would continue to provide the resources required to accelerate the PPI.

He emphasised that the phased completion of the project would position Nigeria as a continental leader, unlocking hidden potential across sectors.

He also directed that major transformer substations under the initiative be expanded from two to three phases to boost national transmission capacity.

“We want everyone to see the glory of our economic recovery and banishment of poverty,” he added.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen were present at the meeting.

In his briefing to the President, Minister Adelabu outlined progress made under the PPI, noting that the power sector had recorded critical milestones, including decentralisation, liberalisation, and the development of a National Integrated Electricity Policy— the first in 24 years.

He said more than $2.2 billion in new investments had flowed into the sector as a result, activating 15 state electricity markets.

He reported that since the Accelerated Agreement was signed at COP28 in Dubai in December 2023, Siemens Energy had delivered and commissioned 10 units of 132/33kV mobile substations, three units of 75/100MVA transformers, and seven units of 60/66MVA transformers nationwide.

These installations have added 984MW of transmission capacity to the national grid, resulting in improved stability and reliability.

Adelabu added that the Federal Executive Council had approved the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the first batch of Phase One of the PPI, which covers the upgrade and commissioning of substations in Abeokuta, Offa, Ayede-Ibadan, Sokoto, and Onitsha.

Civil works mobilisation and equipment manufacturing are underway, he said, with two of the five substations targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

He disclosed that preparations were ongoing for Phase One–Batch Two, involving six brownfield and ten greenfield substations designed to deliver a cumulative impact of 4,104MW.

Finance Minister Wale Edun told the President that a fully implemented PPI would improve the ease of doing business, create jobs for young Nigerians, and help reduce poverty.

Siersdorfer, who led the Siemens delegation, confirmed that two substations under construction would be completed by December 2026.

He said a training centre was being built to expand local capacity in electrical engineering, create jobs, enhance local content, and deepen technology transfer.

“The PPI is not just a project but a platform for long-term development and prosperity,” he said, adding that the initiative would help transform Nigeria into a regional power hub and demonstrate the strength of German-Nigerian relations.

He also noted that thousands of local jobs would be created through procurement, services, accommodation, and transportation linked to the ongoing works.

A representative of the German Ambassador, Johannes Lehne, assured President Tinubu of continued support and partnership from the German government.

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, has commended President Bola Tinubu for bolstering and revamping Nigeria’s security framework.

Uzodinma, who led a high-profile group of APC governors to Niger state on Monday, said the president has succeeded in strengthening the security architecture across the country.

The visit, hosted by Niger Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, came in response to recent floods, tanker explosions, boat mishaps, and other disasters that have claimed lives, displaced communities, and left many injured.

“We commend the president for strengthening the security architecture in Nigeria, his commitment to infrastructure renewal, and his focus on human capacity building,” Uzodinma stated.

Uzodinma urged subnational governments to mirror these federal efforts and partner with the Tinubu administration to deliver democratic dividends and better governance.

Flanked by Governors from Lagos, Ekiti, Kogi, Delta, Ebonyi, and Deputy Governors of Kebbi, Jigawa, and Sokoto, the PGF Chairman emphasized the forum’s “one for all” ethos, declaring the tragedies a collective wound for progressive leaders, as it has become necessary to show solidarity to the people and government of the state over the tragedies.

Tinubu hails take-off of Nigeria’s first methanol factory in Ondo

President Bola Tinubu has applauded the commencement of full operation at the Indigenous Methanol and Ammonium Bicarbonate plant located in Ondo state, describing it as a milestone in local chemical and fertilizer production in the country.

The Chinese-owned SuperTech Chemical Industry Limited operates the facility, which is the first indigenous Methanol and Ammonium Bicarbonate plant in Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo disclosed this on Sunday during a site tour and inspection of the SuperTech Methanol and Ammonium Bicarbonate Plant at the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, Omotosho, in Ore,.Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Ekpo, who was accompanied by top officials of the NNPC Ltd and other key industry stakeholders, said the project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which envisions natural gas as a driver of industrial growth, innovation, and sustainable job creation.

According to the Minister, the plant has the capacity to produce 100,000 metric tons of methanol and 160,000 metric tons of ammonium bicarbonate annually- marking a historic leap for Nigeria’s gas-based industrialization.

“Moving around and seeing the kind of investment that has come into this place is encouraging. They are taking advantage of our natural gas resources to produce methanol and ammonium bicarbonate.

“I have also charged the NNPC representatives here to ensure upstream production takes advantage of this methanol output to support and grow this company.

“Mr. President is pleased that investors are using our gas resources to develop the economy. The Federal Government will give them all necessary support to scale production from the current 100,000 metric tons to the projected 500,000 metric tons by 2026,” Ekpo said.

He lauded the relocation of the entire production facility from China to Nigeria and its 100% mechanical completion as of March 2025, describing it as a testament to the resilience and technical competence of the project promoters.

“The relocation of this entire plant from China to Nigeria – and its full mechanical completion – speaks volumes about the determination and technical capacity of the promoters. It is a shining example of what’s possible when government policy aligns with the private sector initiative.

“This facility is not only the first of its kind in Nigeria but also a vital addition to our downstream gas value chain, unlocking new opportunities for chemicals, fertilizers, and industrial inputs crucial to manufacturing and agriculture,” the minister added.

Speaking during the inspection, Mr Yang Jijiang, Chairman of SuperTech Chemical Industry, said the project demonstrates the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s industrialization and energy transition agenda.

He added that the SuperTech Methanol and Ammonium Bicarbonate Plant is expected to play a vital role in Nigeria’s quest for gas-based industrialization, job creation, and export diversification.

“With strong support from the Federal and Ondo State Governments, NNPC Ltd, GACN, and NMDPRA, we have turned vision into reality,” he said.

Mr Jijiang noted that SuperTech is proud to contribute to job creation, technology transfer, and deeper cooperation between Nigeria and China.

Also speaking, Dr. Alexander Ajipe, Principal Consultant to the Ondo-Linyi Industrial Hub, commended the Minister’s visit as a major morale booster for the Chinese investors.

“This project is a great achievement for Ondo State and Nigeria. We are now producing fertilizer and methanol locally, reducing our dependence on imports,” Ajipe said.
