  • ‘Tinubu means well for Yoruba’

A leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Nigeria, Alhaji Amoda Bello has warned some factional Afenifere Leaders against attacking the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Bello said the former Lagos State governor has good plans for the Yoruba race, stressing that whatever political step taken by him would always be to the benefit the Yoruba people.

The NURTW leader, who spoke with reporters in Akure, the Ondo state capital said Yoruba should be grateful to Tinubu for not allowing them to play the second fiddle in the country.

He urged the Afenifere leaders to accept the former Lagos State governor as the leader of Yoruba race, saying Tinubu shares the same political ideologies with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

His words: “No amount of campaign of destruction that could stand in the way of Ahmed Bola Tinubu. He is a great leader. The achievements he has made, no Yoruba leader has ever made such, except Chief Awolowo.

“He has two things that he has done for us as Yoruba. He has single-handedly formed a political party and the political party is accepted all over the country. This is a great achievement.

“A man that has promoted a lot of people who are now leaders of their respective states. They are the governor Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos State, these are products of Tinubu who we can be proud of. Come and see the person he is grooming in Ondo State, Bola Ilori, if this man speaks with you, you will notice that he is an intellectual.

How military plans to intimidate Tinubu, others

Despite court verdicts against the use of the military in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, there are moves to muzzle All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Lagos and the Southwest.

It was gathered that the Army may have directed an “operation ground APC leaders in Lagos on elections day”.

It was also learnt that Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah will relocate to Lagos on Saturday.

At the final coordinating conference for the elections last Friday, it was directed that key APC leaders must be prevented by troops from leaving their homes on election day.

According to the plan, armoured tanks are to be deployed in front of the homes of key leaders, including Governor Babatunde Fashola and APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The army, it was learnt, mandated a sector commander in Lagos to take charge of the operation to stop Tinubu from leaving his home on election day. Other officers were also assigned to take charge in the houses of other opposition leaders.

The APC has consistently raised the alarm over the plan by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to witch-hunt its leaders, in addition to either arresting them on the eve of the elections or blocking them in their houses on election day.

The opposition has argued that the ruling party has the capacity to use the military to influence elections as it did with last year’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

The activities of the military in the Ekiti elections have come under focus since the release of an audio on the plot to rig the poll, with Brig-Gen. Aliyu Momoh taking instructions from Minister of Police Affairs Jelili Adesiyan, former Minister of State for Defence Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator Iyiola Omisore and then PDP governorship candidate Ayodele Fayose on how to rig the election.

  • Tinubu: see poll as commonsense revolution

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday in Kano urged Nigerians to see the general elections as a commonsense revolution.

He advised them to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a tool for change.

Asiwaju Tinubu, who addressed reporters after inaugurating Kano Corporate Security Institute and other projects executed by Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s administration, enjoined Nigerians to  vote with clean hands and hearts for credible leaders.

He urged them to vote for the APC candidates to rescue the country from socio-economic-cum political quagmire created by the bad leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by President Goodluck  Jonathan.

His words: “My message is that they should see the forthcoming elections as a commonsense revolution; commonsense revolution to reform, re-change, get relieve, ensure security of life and property, eliminate corruption and deception, and ensure recovery of the economy.

“This is the first nation that is moved from the platoon   of economic prosperity. For oil to be selling at the highest price per barrel ever experienced in the world and to plummet to below 50 per cent and taking the country to recession at the same time; and if you cast you mind back to a few years ago, governors and the entire population were deceived about the excess crude.

“You said you want to save for the rainy day, they said we are saving for sovereign wealth—if there is a save for sovereign wealth and if there is a save for the rainy day—is it not a Tsunami now to move from the exchange rate of 110  to 210, 220. What is the position of our foreign reserve? Where is the savings as regards the rainy day from the excess crude oil account? Where is the sovereign wealth and how much are they spending to support the naira every week?

“Why did they make a U-turn and move away from what they called the Dutch auction and  the manufacturers that will keep the economy buoyant and going are not being supported because they are having a low foreign exchange to even support the factory and the manufacturing industries? These are the areas that Nigerians will have to shine their eyes, be determined and create the revolution with their PVCs. Please vote for change.”

Asiwaju Tinubu hailed Governor Kwankwaso for what he described as uncommon development being witnessed in Kano under his administration, noting that he was not only impressed but proud that such experience was coming from an APC Governor.

Said he: “What I discovered today during the inauguration is that security and training are given priority; and not just an ordinary priority in the area of just human prospects, but organising a society, building a society to have confidence in themselves and being trained in modern day-to-day challenges of our modern time, which will bring a lot of economic development.

“We all know that without security, there can be no direct foreign investment and economic progress in any society. In a state like Kano that is very large, with a high population density, vehicular density, industrialisation is very important; and to have to educate and develop the skill of those who are to provide security, intelligence information and be able to cope with those challenges, the far-sightedness of the government—in the long-run, Kano has been lucky.

“I’m extremely not only impressed, but I am very proud that we have a vision, a commitment for a vision and sincere value in this government under Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.”

The Governor enjoined Kano residents to use their PVCs wisely by voting for APC candidates.

He thanked Asiwaju Tinubu for honouring his invitation and  congratulated the 1,130 graduating students of the institute for being part of the training. He described them as ideal youths.

Group decries threat to Tinubu’s life

Yoruba Ronu, a socio-political group has warned the Federal Government against doing anything that will harm the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Bola Ahmed and his family.

The group said in a statement signed by its national president, Prince ‘Diran Iyantan that it was disturbed by the report that the government in collaboration with some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are planning to eliminate the APC leader who is  seen as a stumbling block to perpetrate themselves in power.

The statement reads in part: “Any threat to this man naturally translate into challenging the Yorubas to a duel. It is an undisputable fact that by providence and political evolution Asiwaju Tinubu remains the leader of the Yoruba race, his unquantifiable contributions to the sustenance of the primordial role and relevance of the race in the national polity is an attestation to this assertion. Hence any uncivilized and unorthodox attack on Tinubu is by extention a disrespect and attack on the Yoruba race.

“It is unwholesome and melancholic for Asiwaju Tinubu to be singled out for unwarranted attack amongst the leaders of the ethnic nationalities that have political inclinations. The PDP coordinated disparaging and defamatory assault on Asiwaju Tinubu the leader of the Yorubas who promote peace, civility and harmonious living in the country is seen as a flagrant provocation of the very peaceful, accomodating and reticent Yorubas.

“All the uncouth language employed against our leader who is not contesting any election justifies our fear for his safety. We the Yoruba Ronu Group admonish politicians not to overheat the polity with inflamatory statements and attack on personalities instead they should engage in issue-based discourse. For example the unethical and Machiavellian AIT documentary on Asiwaju Tinubu is at best a national embarrassment and the highest level of impunity and lawlessness that is only a re-enactment of an animal kingdom documentary, which can only be found in the jungle that PDP is building out of Nigeria.”

Court restrains AIT from running hate documentary on Tinubu

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has  granted an interim order restraining the Africa Independent Television (AIT) from broadcasting a documentary, titled: Lion of Bourdillion,  about former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Justice Olamide Akinkugbe of the high court granted the restraining order yesterday while ruling on an ex parte motion filed by the former governor through his counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

The court order will subsist pending the hearing and determination of the interlocutory application filed by the applicant.

Asiwaju Tinubu, who is also the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had, through his lawyer, instituted a N150 billion suit against AIT for airing the documentary.

The applicant alleged that the documentary was libellous and aimed at tarnishing his image.

The APC national leader sought an order of interim injunction restraining AIT, whether by itself, agents, privies and or other persons from producing or continuing to broadcast, airing, or continuing to reproduce the documentary.

The applicant also sought to restrain the television station from continuing to broadcast the documentary, which it started airing on March 1, 2015, and had been repeating same daily, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The motion noted that damages would not adequately compensate the applicant/claimant if the ex-parte order was not granted and prayed that the rest of the suit may be extinguished if the ex-parte order was not granted.

It stated that there was real, imminent and urgent threat and danger of continuing to decimate the person and integrity of Tinubu by AIT by continuing to air the “offensive” broadcast if the ex-parte motion was not granted.

When Olanipekun sought to move the interlocutory application, counsel to AIT Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) objected.

Ozekhome told the court that he needed time to respond to the application.

He told the court that his earlier reply was to the suit initially filed by Dr. Tunji Abayomi on behalf of Asiwaju Tinubu.

Consequent upon this development, Olanipekun made an oral application in which he prayed the court to grant an interim order restraining AIT from further airing the contentious documentary.

Although Ozekhome objected, Justice Akinkugbe upheld the application.

The judge said: “The defendant is hereby restrained from further airing, publishing or disseminating and broadcasting the documentary, Lion of Bourdilion, pending the determination of the interlocutory application.”

She adjourned the matter to March 20, 2015, for argument on the interlocutory application.

Ekiti APC lawmakers condemn alleged plan to attack Tinubu

The 19 All Progressives‎ Congress (APC) lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly have condemned the alleged planned attack on the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning the agents of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to respect the sanctity of human life in their pursuit of power.

Reacting to Tinubu’s alarm over alleged plan to assassinate him by PDP over political differences and threats posed by him for the success of President Goodluck Jonathan in his re-election bid, the APC lawmakers said the political mood in Nigerians as expressed by voters to change political leadership did not support shedding the blood of opposition figures to secure victory.

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Wole Olujobi, the lawmakers said PDP should note that Nigerians had seen PDP’s deceits, corruption and ineptitude in the last six years and had made up their minds that enough of dashed hopes for a new lease of life.

The statement also said PDP should demonstrate in practical terms the declaration by Jonathan that his re-election is not worth the blood of one Nigerian, stressing that it would be dangerous to re-enact Ekiti bloody scenario of intolerance on the national scale.

“It is dangerous that what we thought was a local problem in Ekiti State in the hands of an intolerant and desperate administration is fast spreading to the national stage where our national leaders are being targeted for elimination.

“We condemn this as totally unacceptable. PDP has done enough damage to the national psyche and economy and has created conditions that gave bleak hope for the future of young Nigerians. After succee‎ding in killing Nigerians’ dreams, it should spare the lives of the opposition figures who have the vision to turn around the fortunes of Nigerians for good,” Olujobi said.

He said Tinubu is a patriot and visionary who would not compromise his democratic credentials to sit in court with felons‎ to gang-rape the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the name of contraption called Interim Government that PDP leaders were luring him to participate as the Vice President.

“Tinubu has come a long way. He is conscious of his place in the history of political development of Nigeria, particularly his roles in mid-wiving the nation’s ‎democracy through his activities in NADECO.

“It is shocking that the man that helped in erecting democratic pillars for Nigeria is the same man PDP is expecting in a conspiracy to sabotage the democratic rights of Nigerians to have a democratically elected President,” the media aide said, adding that the APC leader would continue to lead the way in growing democracy for national transformation and salvation.

The statement also warned the ruling party to stop its plan to implicate opposition leaders in trumped-up charges to put them out of circulation ahead of March 28 presidential election‎.

It urged the security agencies to provide protection for Nigerians for peace to reign before and after the polls while it said PDP would be held responsible for any untoward happenings to APC leaders.
