APC will work hard to end poverty, says Tinubu

THE administration of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari will work hard to end poverty and provide opportunities for young people through ambitious infrastructural development, housing and agricultural programmes, which will provide jobs directly to the citizenry.

This assurance was given yesterday by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the 12th Convocation ceremony of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso.

Tinubu, who was speaking as the chancellor of the institution, told the students that the hope and prospects for a better future for the youth is now bright.

He also assured them that their welfare and development would receive the much-needed attention through the enhanced and progressive polices of the new Federal Government.

He acknowledged that Nigeria is blessed with vibrant and talented citizens, whose capacities for nation-building are yet to be tapped, saying that the nation could no longer pay lip service to youth development.

“We must all stand in concert and unity of purpose to build a secure future for our country by developing our youths. Government and youths have mutual duties in this regard. You owe as much to the nation as the nation owes to you. In the past, government has not always honoured its role. You have now elected a government that will honour its duties,” Tinubu said.

The APC leader said the APC-led government would turn away from the austerity policies of the outgoing administration that “tried to manage poverty, but not end it”, a  situation which, he said, only deepen and prolong the hardship of the average person.

“In response to the downturn in private sector activity, a progressive government must exercise the creative boldness to generate economic growth, productive and equal opportunity. Under the circumstances that now confront us, government must use fiscal and monetary policy to enlarge the economic space.

“Moreover, the enhancement of our infrastructural base and sharpening of our productive capacity that result from these programmes will initiate multiple rounds of job creation. This is how economic growth and employment are sustained over the long term,” he said.

Tinubu called on the graduating students to become willing partners in the mission of radical structural change.

“It is necessary for me to call on you graduates to contribute your fair quota to the development of our country. Remember, the university that produced you has a vision ‘to be a centre of academic excellence for the advancement of technology in meeting socio-cultural needs of the society.’ The knowledge you have acquired in this university becomes meaningful only when applied in a way that impacts positively on the society,” he said.

ADDRESS OF THE CHANCELLOR, LADOKE AKINTOLA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OGBOMOSO, ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU, DELIVERED AT THE 12TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY, HELD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2015.
    Protocol
I am delighted to address this assembly for the first time since my investiture as the 4th chancellor of our university. When we assembled here for that memorable event exactly one year ago, many national and international personalities were among our guests.

We had the privilege of the eminent presence of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), now the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. At the time, we could only hope and pray that all would be well with our dear country, Nigeria. Today, we are grateful to God because he has heard our cry and has answered our prayer for a better nation. It is, therefore, my privilege to welcome you all to this important occasion of the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

    Sweep of Change

As I congratulate the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of this university for carrying on the work of the university in the face of daunting challenges which the entire nation had to face in the recent past, I would also like to express my joy at seeing the broom of positive change sweeping across the entire nation. I particularly rejoice with the youth of our nation whose hope and prospects for a better future are now bright.  Their welfare and development are sure to receive much needed attention through the enhanced and progressive policies of the new federal government.

I must, however, state that for us as a nation to experience the change we yearn for, we should all be prepared for a fundamental change in our individual disposition and attitude toward nation building. This change at a personal level will help fuel a national re-orientation that will affect all sectors including governance. We must share the responsibility for change.

Let us use this opportunity to dedicate ourselves to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all and sundry. This is the only way to build a secure future for the teeming population of our youth, a large percentage of who have had to go through harsh experiences of insecurity, unemployment and an uncertain future. A great opportunity is now being presented to us to re-define our identity as a nation and re-order our values and priorities. This responsibility is yours as well as mine.

The nation can no longer afford to pay lip service to the development of her youths. I strongly believe that this country is blessed with vibrant and talented citizens whose capabilities for nation building are yet to be tapped. We must all stand in concert and unity of purpose to build a secure future for our country by developing our youth.
Government and youth have mutual duties in this regard. You owe as much to the nation as the nation owes to you. In the past, government has not always honoured its role.  You have now elected a government that will honour its duties.

One of Government’s primary duties is to provide you with an education in harmony with the demands of our political economy. We must educate you with skills required by the job market that you shall encounter and not for some abstract economy found only in textbooks.

Then government must spur the economic growth that promises jobs and opportunity to all of you.
A progressive government must turn its face from the austerity policies of the outgoing administrative that tried to manage poverty, but not end it. Such policies serve only to deepen and prolong the hardship of the average person. Such policies would lock us in a room without hope or safe exit. We dare not go in.

In response to the downturn in private sector activity, a progressive government must exercise the creative boldness to generate economic growth, productive and equal opportunity. Under the circumstances that now confront us, government must use fiscal and monetary policy to enlarge the economic space by embarking on ambitious infrastructural development, housing and agricultural programs.

These programs will provide jobs directly. Moreover, the enhancement of our infrastructural base and sharpening of our productive capacity that results from these programs will initiate multiple rounds of job creation. This is how economic growth and employment are sustained over the long term.

This is what the APC manifesto pledged to you. This is what an APC government will seek to deliver.
You, the youth, must be willing partners in this mission of radical, structural change.

Through perseverance, strong determination and consistent search for knowledge, you must seek to excel for the betterment of your society. As you have gone through this institution, you must carry with you the evidence that the institution has gone through you.

It is necessary for me to call on you the graduates to contribute your fair quota to the development of our country. Remember, the university that produced you has a vision “to be a centre of academic excellence for the advancement of technology in meeting socio-cultural needs of the society”. The knowledge you have acquired in this university becomes meaningful only when applied in a way that impacts positively on the society.

    Conclusion

As I conclude, I need to place on record my appreciation of the efforts of the progressive governments of the two Owner-States of Oyo and Osun for their commitment to the growth and development of LAUTECH.

I also acknowledge the good leadership provided by the Governing Council, ably led by Professor Wale Omole, OFR. I sincerely salute the courage of the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi S. Gbadegesin and the Management team for bracing up to the challenges the University has had to face in recent times.

The Senate, all Staff and Students are well recognized and appreciated for their contributions to the peaceful atmosphere in which the University has been carrying out its work.
Finally, ladies and gentlemen, it is my privilege to assure you all that LAUTECH will continue to enjoy a top priority status.

    I thank you for listening.

  • APC renews confidence in Tinubu, Ajomale

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State yesterday said it has confidence in its National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It decried the call for the removal of the party’s chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale.

In a communiqué by Chief Funso Ologunde (Vice Chairman) and Femi Saheed (Acting Secretary) after an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee in Lagos, members condemned the call  for Ajomale’s resignation.

The communiqué reads: “That we, Executive Committee members of Lagos State APC, have confidence in the state leadership of our party, National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the Governor’s Advisory Committee (GAC).

“That we appreciate the contributions of Governor Babatunde Fashola in achieving this enviable victory.

“That we have confidence in Otunba Oladele Ajomale and commend him for the manner in which he had consistently steered the party’s ship since 2006 when he assumed office as chairman of the defunct Action Congress (AC).

“That we recall Ajomale’s hitherto achievements when both the defunct Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) swept seats in Lagos State, under his leadership between 2007 and 2011.

“Finally, we appeal to our loyal, committed, appreciative and diligent party members against being drawn into casting aspersion on party leaders, which could portray our party as a divided house.”

The party congratulated Governor-elect Akinwunmi Ambode and others elected or re-elected on its platform on March 28 and April 11.

  • How Tinubu received Ambode’s victory

    How Tinubu received Ambode’s victory

On a normal day, Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi – a highbrow residential area in uptown Lagos – is a quiet neighbourhood. The area erupted in celebration when All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Akinwunmi Ambode was declared winner of the governorship election, writes WALE AJETUNMOBI.

Oshodi has a reputation of being the melting pot in Lagos, but this was temporary lifted after the governorship and House of Assembly elections held across the country.

Certain neighbourhoods on Bourdillion Road, in Ikoyi momentarily became another Oshodi. By noon, different shades and sizes of vehicles – exotic and rickety – had dotted the stretch. Residents of Ikoyi may have been used to that kind of large motorcade, which extended to an estimate of three kilometres distance on both sides of the road.

At the entrance of House Number 26 on the lengthy road, a group of youths and elderly citizens gathered in clusters. They had ostensibly converged from different parts of Lagos. Though they had had to wait for long, their  host was not unaware of their presence.

The host was Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC). The crowd was at his residence to celebrate the impending victory of the APC governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, who was in a clear lead at the time the crowd trooped to Tinubu’s house.

High-profile politicians and elder statesmen, who came to felicitate with Tinubu, had hectic time moving through the ecstatic crowd of youths who besieged Asiwaju’s gate.

Within hours of their arrival, the youths set up sound system to entertain themselves. All sorts of music blared from the four ultrasonic speakers stationed at the building gate. It was all noisy for hours before the governorship results were officially announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Isaac Adewole.

At 6:30pm when report got Bourdillion that Ambode had been officially declared the winner of the governorship race, the crowd at Tinubu’s gate moved into a moment of spontaneous excitement, with some of the youths showing daredevil stunts.

Tinubu’s political associates and protégés flocked his Bourdillion home to salute the man they call “Jagaban of Nigeria”.

“It was a sweet victory,” former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, expressed as he shook hand with Tinubu.

Early callers at Tinubu’s residence after APC’s victory included an elder statesman, Chief Pius Akinyelure, Mr. Ayo Opadokun, Hon. Olawale Oshun, Justice George Oguntade, Chief Rasak Okoya, Mr Femi Pedro, Mr. Dele Alake, Mr. Tunji Bello, Dr. Tola Kasali and Mrs Kemi Nelson, among others.

Visitors, who were mainly politicians, sat round a swimming pool beside the main building in the compound, wining and dining. Mrs Nelson led a group of women to sing victory songs; they also chanted anti-People Democratic Party (PDP) jingles.

PDP’s oppressive umbrella, they chanted, has been perforated and ruptured by a strand of APC’s broom.

The atmosphere became ecstatic at 7:30pm when Governor Rauf Aregbesola led some elected members of the Osun State House of Assembly and party leaders to felicitate with Asiwaju. Accompanied by his wife, Sherifat, the governor hailed Tinubu as the harbinger of the wind of change blowing across the country.

“Through your effort,” Aregbesola told Tinubu in an informal meeting held beside the pool, “APC has won all Assembly seats in Osun except one. We are grateful to you and we appreciate your effort in changes we are witnessing around the country.”

Asiwaju responded: “I can only do the little I could do from here; the bulk of the glory should go to all party leaders and supporters in Osun State. They stood solidly and ensure our party came victorious. I respect Ogbeni Aregbesola and I make bold to say that he is a dependable leader. If you have Aregbesola on your side, you can go to sleep and you would be sure everything will be in place.”

The governor described APC victory in Lagos as a product of good leadership exhibited by the outgoing Governor Babatunde Fashola but added that the victory came with a task to meet people expectation in continuous service delivery and good governance.

Shortly after Tinubu’s meeting with Osun governor, the Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, breezed in with his wife. After pleasantries and banters, Tinubu declared Lagos support for the waiting APC-led Federal Government, urging the president-elect Gen. Muhammadu to reciprocate the Lagosians’ support for his election.

Osinbajo only stayed for about 15 minutes.

Speaking with our reporter, Tinubu described Ambode’s victory was predicated on the radical transformation and well-articulated programmes he started 16 years ago as Lagos governor. He said the new-found alignment between Lagos and the Federal Government would accelerate the ongoing transformation of Lagos to mega city and foreign investment destination.

He said: “Our victory in Lagos is a result of hard work I started 16 years ago. Consistent radical transformation of Lagos and well-articulated programmes, including education, infrastructure, urban renewal, innovative system of finance, knowledge-based economy and job creation in partnership with private sector. That resulted in leap development for Lagos.”

Rather than condemning Jimi Agbaje for what many called divisive campaign he ran, Tinubu, to the chagrin of his associates, described the PDP governorship candidate as a “good man with good spirit”. Asiwaju praised Agbaje for conceding defeat by calling Ambode on telephone.

The wind of change blowing across the country may not have been possible without Tinubu’s effort and doggedness, Opadokun said. He observed that he never believed he would witness the fall of the PDP anytime soon, saying Tinubu led the vanguard that pulled down the “oppressive structure the PDP had built in the last 16 years.”

Opadokun said: “What we are witnessing today is a total new dimension to the polity. I never imagined that I will see this turnaround for good in Nigeria. If I was told there could be change a few months ago, my views would be different. But I can tell that the space called Nigeria is about to commence a new beginning; a transformative background upon which we can rest all structures of development and progress.

“Since 1953 election, our people (Yoruba) have always been in the opposition. This is the first time that our people would struggle hard under leadership of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to galvanise a coalition of political platforms together to become APC. And that organisation has become so resilient, strong and dependable, that could defeat the sitting party in government. That is not a mean achievement.

“What God has used Asiwaju Tinubu to accomplish in Nigeria and for the Yoruba nation cannot be erased by any character. It is a reality that the political leadership here has been taken over by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The convoy of the man of the moment, Akinwunmi Ambode, revved to a halt in Asiwaju’s compound at 11:15pm, amid shoving and pushing by the crowd. Ambode was received by APC leaders, whom he described as “wonderful people”. After personally greeting party supporters, he was led into Tinubu’s building for a private meeting.

Up till 12:15am when our reporter left the house, Bourdillion Road still throbbed with celebration.

  • ‘Tinubu is Joshua of our time’

‘Tinubu is Joshua of our time’

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the Joshua of our time, who delivered Nigerians from imminent political turbulence; indeed, he is a political legend and hero of our time.”

These were the words of the Minister-In-Charge, C & S Salem Evangelical Church of Christ, Ilupeju, Lagos, Supt. Apostle Babatunde Odele (PawPaw), while assessing Tinubu’s contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded elections.

He told reporters in Lagos last Friday that after Moses could not lead the Israelites to the Promised Land, Joshua accomplished it, adding: “Today, the APC through leaders like Asiwaju is leading Nigeria to the promised land through overwhelming victory in the last elections. He brought political emancipation to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, gender or religion. God anointed Asiwaju Tinubu as a torch bearer to install truly progressive men and women in offices at various levels of governance across the country.”

“Asiwaju Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu, has etched his name in gold in  Nigerian history as the Lord has given unto him the possession of the land unto the progressives as in Joshua 2:9. Bola Ahmed Tinubu revived the political deadwoods; he emancipated the poor at the grassroots with his financial blessings. More blessings to him in Jesus name,” the cleric said.

With the rapid development of Lagos State as a reference point to other governors, he said, Tinubu, brought a younger, dynamic and visionary person, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), to consolidate on his political achievements.

Odele said: “He brought Akinwunmi Ambode, an anointed political technocrat, a Fellow in Accountancy, an excellent public servant, a trusted ally and his loyal political son to continue with the mantle of governance in Lagos State. Asiwaju Tinubu, I pray for you with the blessings given unto Joshua in the holy book of Joshua 10:25: “Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for this shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight. So says the Lord.”

Speaking on the church and government, Odele, a former chairman of Mushin Local Government in Lagos State, said the elections were peaceful because of the fervent prayers of the faithful. He called for prayers for all those elected.

Odele, who was also Executive Secretary, Ifako Ijaiye Local Government and  Board Member, Ministry of the Environment, said it had become a routine to pray for peace nationwide in his church.

Seeking the cooperation of non-indigenes for the incoming administration, the cleric said: “Asiwaju Tinubu did a lot for non-indigenes in the state during his tenure. In the present government, we have an Igbo Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget (Mr. Ken Akabueze). I implore the Igbos to cooperate with the government, the Oba of Lagos, the paramount Custodian of Culture and Tradition that owns the land where their various businesses are thriving.

“During the last civil war in Nigeria, most of their great grandfathers left Lagos; yet, they all returned to have their properties back intact. Today Igbos and all other non-indigenes must thank God that their businesses are blossoming, their well beings are being guaranteed in the state.”

  • Tinubu and resurgence of progressive politics

His small trim figure and frail frame belie the enormous strength it carries, and does not in any way reflect his true capacity. It is a sort of decoy. As a result of his frail physical makeup, many unsuspecting minds see him as one who is to be ignored. However, many who have ignored him have done so at their own peril.

What actually is it about men with a little physical frame? Historically, it has been revealed that men with tiny physique are dynamites. In football circle, Argentine Diego Maradona is a personage.  Short and stocky, Maradona took the soccer world by storm such that his exploits on the soccer field have become a legendary tale. Ditto for Lionel Messi, his equally pint-sized countryman, who has become a soccer idol to many football fans across the globe. German Adolf Hitler also readily falls into the category of pocket-sized men who held the world awestruck, albeit negatively. There was also the Emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, who once ruled the entire continent of Europe. Let me quickly add that Asiwaju is not diminutive, he’s a frail weight.

In the contemporary political landscape of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains a force to be reckoned with. His fragile physique notwithstanding, Asiwaju has the heart of a lion. He dares to follow the path that lesser mortals tremble to trail. His audacious confrontations with the military are partly responsible for the restoration of democracy in our country in 1999. But then, Asiwaju is not all about boldness without vision. He combines a bold heart with a sound mind. He is blessed with an unusually sharp and uncanny mind.

Asiwaju’s intellectual prowess is legendary. He is a deep thinker and a pragmatic philosopher in his own right. He combines unbelievable intellectual depth with amazing spiritual profundity. His bat like full-size eyes prods deeply at everything in sight with the calculated precision of a predator going after its prey. They are, perhaps, responsible for the depth of his vision. Asiwaju sees far ahead of time.

Asiwaju is, indeed, a complex character. Late Afro beat maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was popularly referred to by his teeming fans as ‘Abami Eda’ (the Strange One). Asiwaju could equally be likened to an ‘Abami Eda (a Strange Creature). The more you think you know him, the more intriguing he becomes. It is mostly when his adversaries think they have pinned him to the wall that he bounces back even stronger, like the proverbial cat with nine lives. ‘O sewo, eyin Ologbo ki bale’. It is impossible to give the cat a pin fall. Asiwaju is that cat whose back doesn’t touch the floor. Even when it does, he bounces back in record time.

Impossibility is a common word in the dictum of fidgety and skeptical souls that abandon their visions in the face of the slightest challenge. However, for Asiwaju, impossibility is a doorway to possibilities. Hence, he sees profound opportunities in every seeming impossibility.

Prior to the successful merger of the various political parties that transformed into the All Progressive Congress, APC, merging of political parties had not been a successful venture in the country’s political terrain. In the Second Republic, for instance, the progressives led by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alhaji Aminu Kano, Alhaji Waziri Ibrahim and others tried fruitlessly to form a formidable progressive inclined political party that could wrestle power from the then ruling National Party of Nigeria, NPN.  These frontline leaders of the progressives held several meetings at that time but with insignificant success.

It was, perhaps, this history of failures by the progressives to forge a common front that initially made political observers and pundits to be skeptical about the feasibility of the APC project. Indeed, some prominent PDP members swore by their mothers and grandmothers that the merger was not going to work. However, with the unwavering and calculated focus of a lion in pursuit of its prey, Asiwaju and his fellow progressive leaders, who are today’s heroes of democracy, forged ahead like Trojans who are sure of their destination.

The one who has become a spectacle does not act as a spectator. So, Asiwaju and his compatriots refused to be distracted even when the sound of the drummer at the market place became quite vicious and notorious. The one with a mission at the market does not pay attention to the noise of the market. So much noise came from the PDP’s organs such as the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, Africa Independent (?) Television, AIT, and much more, but Asiwaju and co surged on. The rest, as they say, is history.

Now that the night is over, no one should deny Asiwaju the right to click the glass and pump champagne. It is his right. He deserves it after sixteen years of focusing on the prize. In 2003, when the Alliance for Democracy, AD, lost all its controlled states in the South West, except for Lagos, the only attractive option for Asiwaju was to jump ship and move to the ruling PDP. That is the natural path in African politics because playing opposition politics in this clime is hazardous and unattractive. But such a choice is for men with blatant opportunistic disposition.

So, Asiwaju forged ahead and Action Congress, AC, came on board, later paving way for the emergence of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. Though the road was rough and tough but with the ACN came the recovery of lost states in the southwest. Edo state was to later come into the fray. Now, the ACN has arrived. That was the thought of some of Asiwaju’s apostles. But, like the visionary leader, he is, Asiwaju knew that the journey has just started, and nothing has been won.

In order to achieve the long-term mission of the progressives in the nation’s political landscape, ACN, with its relative success must die. Thus came the death of the ACN. The funeral ceremony took place in Lagos. But other deaths were equally recorded along the way. The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC as well as the All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP also died. However, these parties did not die in vain. With their death came the birth of the APC, a formidable opposition party. At last, the progressives were ready to confront the PDP for the political soul of the country. In a most keenly and fiercely contested presidential election in the political history of the country, the PDP bit the dust. Thus, ending its sixteen years of infamous and impunity laden grip on power at the centre.

Many who do not really know him bear false tales about his person. Others hate him just out of vicious envy and jealousy. But those that are privileged to know him are conscious of his unquestionable patriotic zeal and uncommon commitment to the emancipation of the downtrodden. Many who used his political influence and benevolence to achieve political success have betrayed him. But for Asiwaju, there is a price to pay for every prize that one desires. The more inestimable the prize, the more bristly the price.

Without a doubt, fiercer political battles lie ahead for Asiwaju and his progressive co-travellers. But of what essence is life without battles? That is the stuff that champions are made of. Ride on Asiwaju! May your light never go dim. Long live the progressives!

    God bless Nigeria!

    Tinubu hails Agbaje’s ‘good spirit’

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was last night excited over Akinwunmi Ambode’s victory at Saturday’s governorship election.

He ascribed it all to the party’s members’  hard.

Tinubu said Ambode’s victory was predicated on the radical transformation and well-articulated programmes he started 16 years ago, hinting that Lagos would start another race in its transformation drive given its alignment with the federal government.

The former Lagos governor hailed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje, for his statesmanship, describing him as a man of good values and character.

“We must bear in mind that a good democrat must accept result of a free and fair election.,” he said.

Tinubu said Agbaje showed good spirit by calling Ambode on telephone to congratulate him and for accepting his party’s loss in Saturday’s poll.

Tinubu said: “Our victory in Lagos is as a result of hard work I started 16 years ago. Constistent radical transformation of Lagos and well-articulated programmes, including education, infrastructure, urban renewal, innovative system of finance, knowledge-based economy and job creation in partnership with private sector. That resulted in leap development of Lagos.”

The APC leader said there would always be a winner in all contest, congratulating Ambode for his success.

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola described the APC victory in Lagos as product of good leadership exhibited by the outgoing governor, saying the victory came with a task to meet people’s expectations in service delivery and good governance. He praised Ambode’s fighting spirit.

Lagos Commissioner for Environment Tunji Bello said the victory would take the state to another level of development.

  • ‘Tinubu, Oshiomhole architects of new Nigeria’

‘Tinubu, Oshiomhole architects of new Nigeria’

Former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been described as the leader, architect and pathfinder of an emerging new Nigeria.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant  (Media) to Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. John Mayaki, while congratulating the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on his victory, said: “the likes of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rivers State Governor Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole of Edo State and others, should be congratulated for leading a most ferocious battle against a most desperate Federal Government under President Goodluck Jonathan.”

Mayaki described Governor Oshiomhole as a steadfast, courageous pathfinder and democrat, who provided effective leadership for the people even as he called on those who left the party to consider returning home.

“We made it to the other side after the PDP captivity, the turbulent and fearful crossing (transition) of the sea to the other side of victory and Promised Land for Nigerians.

“It is not easy to be in opposition. Comrade Oshiomhole has again proved his onions. He is never intimidated or cowed. He is courageous and at his best when intimidated. He was steadfast and focused throughout.

“Today, Edo State was in the league of states in the opposition party, which dethroned a corrupt-ridden Federal Government.

“Oshiomhole fought with other democrats to rescue Edo State from the grip of the PDP, which almost snuffed life out of the state.

“I want to appreciate those who have joined him from other parties and encourage others who are yet to catch the joy of liberation with the governor to do so in the interest of the state and the country.

“It is a matter of leadership. Oshiomhole has done this again. He has shown leadership and if you think you no longer find leadership in PDP or any other party, why not join the pathfinder – Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole,” Mayaki said.
