Group rallies support for Tinubu’s reforms

A group under the aegis of Team Tinubu 2027 has urged Nigerians to support ongoing reforms introduced by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The organisation noted that in just over two years, Nigerians have witnessed President Tinubu’s bold economic restructuring, including efforts to stabilise the polity, rebuild institutions, and strengthen Nigeria’s international standing.

Director of Civil Society Groups, Team Tinubu 2027, Lokoyere Geoffrey said this at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

“In just over two years, we have witnessed President Tinubu’s bold economic restructuring, efforts to stabilize the polity, rebuild institutions, and strengthen Nigeria’s international standing. The Renewed Hope Agenda is gradually taking root,” he stated.

He, however, acknowledged that nation-building is not an easy task, stressing that it requires persistence, patience, and partnership.

“That is why Team Tinubu is stepping forward to serve as a bridge between government and the governed, leadership and citizenship, and between the promise of reform and the people it seeks to empower,” he said.

The group urged Nigerians to shun apathy and take active part in national development.

“Democracy thrives when citizens participate, not spectate. This is not the time for indifference or cynicism. It is the time for renewed hope, renewed commitment, and renewed action,” Geoffrey declared.

    • President presides over FEC meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in two newly appointed ministers, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro and Mr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, at a brief ceremony held inside the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

The swearing-in took place shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by the President.

Dr. Doro, a pharmacist and lawyer from Plateau State, fills the ministerial vacancy created by the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who is now the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Both Doro and Yilwatda are from Plateau State. Doro’s nomination was confirmed by the Senate in late October.

Mr. Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, will be filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who resigned following allegations of certificate forgery.

Udeh’s appointment was confirmed by the Senate yesterday, following a brief screening session during plenary. Until his elevation to the federal cabinet, Udeh served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.

Also, the FEC swung into session immediately after a report presented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, on the state of the economy.

The FEC meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Mrs. Esther Didi Walson-Jack; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and most of the other members of Council, including ministers and special advisers.

    • Nigeria engaging constructively, diplomatically to address all genuine concerns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country.

He assured Nigerians and international partners that his government remains steadfast in its pursuit of security, unity and economic progress.

The President made the declaration at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, shortly before presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting and moments after swearing in two new ministers.

It was his first public comment since Friday when United States(U.S) President Donald Trump re-designated Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern (CPC)’ and directed the U.S Department of War to prepare to take out Islamist terrorists whom he accused of targeting Christians.

President Tinubu struck a confident tone, stressing that his administration was engaging the world diplomatically as it strives to end terrorism and stabilise the nation.

He said: “The most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with partners.

“The success of the $2.3 billion Eurobond that was oversubscribed by 400 per cent is the most assuring.

“So, the task ahead is immense; we are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in this country.

“The task ahead is immense, but it is our resolve to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Nigeria.”

The President charged Nigerians not to succumb to despair, assuring that ‘’the government will defeat every form of terrorism and secure every part of the country.’’

He called on ministers and other officials to ensure consistency in communication and avoid discordant messaging.

“Do we have problems? Yes. Are we challenged by terrorism? Yes. But we will defeat terrorism. We will overcome the CPC designation.

“Nigeria is one happy family, and we shall spare no effort until we eliminate all criminals from our society.

‘’We want our friends to help us as we step up our fight against terrorism, and we will eliminate it.”

Idris: diplomatic channel with US opened

After the FEC meeting, Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris told reporters that the government has opened a diplomatic channel with the U.S on the security situation in Nigeria and the  CPC designation.

Idris said while the government took note of the political dimensions surrounding the US actions, it was engaging constructively and diplomatically to address all genuine concerns raised by Washington.

He stressed that Nigeria remains a stable democracy committed to the safety of all citizens and respect for religious freedoms.

“Have we had any discussions with the government of the United States? Yes. Channels have been opened. We prefer that this situation be solved diplomatically,” the minister stated.

He added that Nigeria would not escalate the situation through public exchanges but continue to demonstrate through actions that the Tinubu administration was tackling insecurity and upholding the constitutional rights of all citizens.

He said: “The politics of it aside, we genuinely are taking the issues seriously, but let me also say that government, even before these events of the last few days, has been extremely committed to ensuring that Nigeria is indeed safe for everyone.

“The killing of even one Nigerian citizen is of concern to the government of Nigeria, and of course, because our constitution, and we keep mentioning this, guarantees the right of everyone to worship his or her religion without hindrance.

“The government of Nigeria is committed to that, will continue to do that, and wherever there is any violence affecting any citizen in this country, the government of Nigeria has indeed the responsibility to ensure that is tackled.”

The minister assured that President Tinubu and FEC members  would be responding  to the situation “responsibly and steadily.”

“Nigeria values its relationship with the international community and will continue to engage partners with respect and dignity.

“There is no panic. The government is simply doing what is necessary to protect lives while maintaining our sovereignty,” Idris said.

The minister, who also spoke at the 50th anniversary of Angola, challenged Nigerians ‘’to come together and to think together.’’

“This is not a time for politics. This is not a time to say what you believe and what you don’t. This is a time to think and behave as a Nigerian,’’ he said.

To the media, he said:  ‘’I want to challenge you once again to put forth those things that promote our political existence as Nigerians, not the things that divide us.”

The minister added that the government is  ‘’inviting all those who can help us to really navigate through’’ the situation the country is facing.

Nigerians in U.S reject foreign intervention

As the reassurances came from President Tinubu and the minister, a coalition of 19 Nigerian groups in the U.S, the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN), objected to foreign military intervention in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians.

OAN cautioned that “foreign military presence is not the solution”, adding, “the Nigerian government must take full responsibility for safeguarding its people”.

The group, in a statement by its President, Temi Aregbesola, said: “Nigeria is a sovereign nation. We remind all international partners that the protection of its citizens must remain in the hands of the Nigerian government, in collaboration, not under coercion.

“While we recognise and join in the urgent concern over the killings of Christians, Muslims and other innocent Nigerians, we unequivocally reject the idea of foreign military intervention on Nigerian soil.’’

It, however, expressed “deep dismay and disappointment at the inability of successive Nigerian administrations to halt the escalation of violence” targeting communities, indigenous groups and innocent civilians across the country.

OAN urged the  Nigerian authorities to “accept and initiate urgent collaboration with the U.S. and international partners, to share intelligence, training, technology and logistical support.

    U.S. military crafts intervention plans

The US-Africa Command (AFRICOM) has drawn up three escalatory plans for intervention in Nigeria.

The options – light, medium, and heavy, according to The New York Times,  have been submitted to the Joint Staff at the Pentagon.

According to Defence officials, the light option would involve “partner-enabled” operations, with the U.S military and State Department supporting Nigerian forces against Boko Haram and other militant groups.

The medium option envisions drone strikes on militant camps and convoys, though U.S forces no longer have nearby bases in the neighbouring Niger Republic and would face logistical and diplomatic challenges.

The heavy option could involve the deployment of an aircraft carrier group and long-range strike assets.

But the officials said such a move is not currently a U.S national security priority.

Military officials said U.S forces are unlikely to end the decades-long insurgency in Nigeria and would have a limited impact without an Iraq- or Afghanistan-style campaign.

“It would be a fiasco,” said the New York Times, quoting Maj. Gen. Paul D. Eaton, as saying.

He added that neither the U.S public nor President Trump, beyond social media posts, appears interested in a large-scale ground war in Nigeria.

FG will rebuild police colleges ahead Tinubu’s 30,000 personnel recruitment

The Presidential Ad Hoc Committee on the Overhaul of Security Training Institutions has said that the police college institutes and other security training facilities across the country will be rebuilt and equipped before the recruitment of the 30,000 new police personnel approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Members of the committee led by its Chairman and Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah, spoke on Thursday during their inspection visit to the Police Training College, Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The committee members, including Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun, were led to the Nonwa Police Training College by their host and Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

Mbah said the President had already approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police personnel, but added that the exercise would not proceed until the country’s training facilities are rebuilt and adequately equipped.

“There’s no way that recruitment can happen if we do not have proper training ground for these men and women who protect our communities”, he said.

Mbah said the overhauling of security training institutes was a direct mandate from President Tinubu, who personally inaugurated the committee to reposition the country’s law enforcement training system.

He noted that Tinubu’s declaration of emergency on training institutes was a demonstration of the importance he attached to the security of lives and properties of the citizens.

He said: “The President came to the NEC meeting himself to inaugurate this committee. That tells you how much importance he attaches to the security of lives and property. He recognises that we are at a security crossroad, and nothing short of a complete and urgent overhaul is required to secure our future.

“We are here for an on-the-spot assessment, to document the level of decay and ensure that this intervention is nationwide. That was the explicit mandate of the President.”

Mbah lamented that most of the training centres had suffered decades of neglect, emphasising that Tinubu’s intervention marked a new beginning for Nigeria’s policing architecture.

He said: “You cannot demand integrity and professionalism from our men and women when the institutions that train them are in ruins.

“This is being treated as a national emergency. The first phase will last one month, during which we will begin rebuilding, reequipping and restoring the dignity of these institutions.”

Abiodun described the reform as a “clear demonstration of the President’s political will” to strengthen law enforcement and ensure internal security.

He said: “The President is not a member of NEC, yet he came personally to inaugurate this committee. “That tells you his level of commitment.

“He understands that you cannot recruit 30,000 policemen and train them in this kind of environment. You cannot incubate policemen here and expect them to behave like professionals when they get out.”

Abiodun revealed that the committee had split into northern and southern teams to meet its four-week deadline.

He said consultants were already working on a bill of quantities and cost assessments for all police and NSCDC training facilities across the country.

Abiodun said: “We’re determined to meet the deadline. Our report will include detailed refurbishment plans so that the President can immediately begin the recruitment drive backed by proper training infrastructure. This shows that Mr. President is not just talking; he is acting.”

Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, hailed the initiative as a “bold and practical step” by President Tinubu to professionalise the Nigerian Police Force.

Fubara said: “What is important here is that the President has made a bold statement. He wants a police force that is trained professionally.

“I strongly believe he means every word he has said. This is not just about fixing buildings; it’s about building capacity, restoring morale, and motivating officers to perform like their counterparts anywhere in the world.”

The inspection team, which also included retired and serving senior police officers, toured facilities at the Nonwa Police Training College and other adjoining facilities in Rivers.

Southwest APC lauds Tinubu over creation of regional development commissions

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Southwes has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over creation of Development Commissions in all the nation’s six geopolitical zones of the country.

In a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ayobami Afolabi, the party said the step would facilitate speedy growth and development to all the geographical components of the country.

Afolabi described the idea of geopolitical zone development commissions as a subtle way of acceding to the popular demand for true federalism as all the each zones are being given a veritable platform for partnership, collectivism and unity of purpose.

Reacting to the two-day South West Stakeholders’ Dialogue/Summit in Akure, Ondo state, organised by Development Agenda for the Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) in collaboration with Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) and the governments of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Oyo states, Afolabi urged Governors and other leaders from the zone to march word with actions.

He said they must ensure that all the developmental ideas and road maps generated from the recent regional summit are carefully worked out and Implemented for the benefit of all the six states in the zone.

His words: “The quality of representation and deliberations at the recently concluded Akure summit was a pointer to the fact that the good people of the South West are ready again to reinvent the zeal, courage and bravery with which the affairs of the defunct Western Region was piloted by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and other legendary personalities who mobilized little resources to generate unique ideas and actions which placed the Region at the forefront of good governance and enviable leadership.

“The organisers of the Akure Summit also deserve applause as they were able to make the dialogue devoid of politics or sentiments as people from all divides were involved.

“At the end of the dialogue, the whole world was made to see that sons and daughters of Yorubaland were mindful of the shared values, opportunities and prospects which could turn their land into an eldorado in no time.

“However, the major challenge now is for the concerned individuals, groups and authorities to speed up action and ensure that the gains of the Summit are translated into unprecedented holistic development for the South West geo-politcal zone.”

Students urge Tinubu to protect Dangote Refinery

Students under the auspices of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) have asked President Bola Tinubu to protect the Dangote Refinery from saboteurs.

The students, who marched through the streets of Benin City in protest, said the Dangote Refinery was not a business venture but a symbol that the country was capable of producing what others said it could only import.

They said actors within PENGASSAN, NUPENG, and DAPMAN aligned with fuel importation cartels to protect a fuel importers built on Nigeria’s weakness.

National President of NAPS, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, called on the Federal Government to defend and protect the Dangote Refinery as a national strategic asset.

Comrade Oghayan said any sabotage against the refinery must be treated as economic terrorism.

He urged the federal government to ensure 100% crude oil supply allocated to the Dangote Refinery.

According to him: “If we feed the refinery fully, it will crash fuel prices, strengthen the Naira, and stop the bleeding of foreign exchange.

“We call on the Federal Government to halt the importation of fuel entirely.

While we appreciate the 15% slash in fuel importation approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we insist that half-measures cannot deliver full recovery.

Nigeria must refine what we use.

“We demand national priority for locally refined fuel in government procurement, transport, aviation, power and military sectors.

“We urge Mr. President to dismantle the importation cartel and support genuine national industrialization.”

Tinubu is implementing far-reaching measures to combat terrorism – Alake

President Bola Tinubu’s administration is implementing several far-reaching measures to combat terrorism in Nigeria, combining military action with socio-economic initiatives and regional diplomacy

Alake stated this during a News Conference hosted by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris on Wednesday in Abuja.

He explained that the insecurity in Nigeria did not start under President Tinubu or two years ago.

“From the actions taken so far; from the platoral of actions, if such was taken ten years ago, we probably would not be where we are today.

“Ranging from the changing of security architecture,  the top brass of our security agencies.

“The change in 2023, change again few days ago; all these are to reinvigorate and re-inject  new enthusiasm and impetus into the fight against insecurity.

“These are policies and actions emanating from deep exhaustive planning and strategising and they are yielding results.

“When you look at the last ten years and do a comparative analysis with the last two years, you will notice the tremendous efforts that this government has put in place and actions so far taken to stem the tide of insecurity.

“Everyone knows that there is no deliberate targeting of any religion or persecution. Sometime, when these terrorists goes to attack, they don’t do it base on religion, rather it is base on either economic or political, ” Alake said.

He added that ironically, some of those communities are inhabited by people of a particular religion, adding that,  to use the faith of the inhabitant to explain the motive of the attack is very wrong.

“Such do not reflect the reality on ground”.

He called on the media to stop propagating wrong narrative characterised by unbelievability happening in the country, but rather amplify the success of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism.

  • Alleged false claim against Tinubu: Sowore, Meta, X get new date for arraignment

Alleged false claim against Tinubu: Sowore, Meta, X get new date for arraignment

The planned arraignment of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2023 Omoyele Sowore and two others before a Federal High Court in Abuja has been postponed to December 2 owing to his absence in court.

Sowore was to be arraigned along with X Incorp (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) Incorp on a five-count charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025 filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) in the name of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN).

Sowore is accused of making a false claim against the person of President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as a criminal in a post he made on his X and Facebook accounts.

The defendants are, in the charge, accused of contravening the provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024 and the Criminal Code Act.

At the mention of the case on Wednesday, lawyer to the prosecution, Akinlolu Kehinde, (SAN) said the business of the day was the arraignment of the defendants.

Kehinde noted that the other defendants were present in court except the first defendant (Sowore), who was not only  absent, but also not represented by a lawyer.

He told the court that the prosecution got a letter on Tuesday night from “one Deji Adeyanju,” who claimed to be the lead lawyer to the first defendant and requested for an adjournment.

Kehinde said the letter was a ploy to delay the proceedings, adding that it was the prosecution’s position that the letter was grossly in bad faith and meant to further delay hearing in the case.

He recalled that the arraignment could not hold on September 30 because Sowore claimed that he had not been served, even “though the charge was already in the media and the defendant was in court.

“This is a disrespect to this court and it is time your lordship issue a bench warrant for him so that he should be kept in custody until next adjourned date so that nobody will be looking for him,” he said.

Kehinde further urged the court to ignore Adeyanju’s letter, describing it as “a mischievous letter.”

He noted that all court documents filed before on behalf of Sowore were by Femi Falana (SAN) as lead lawyer and prayed the court to disregard Adeyanju’s letter and issue the bench warrant.

Lawyer to Facebook,  Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo (SAN), agreed with Kehinde’s position and noted that the letter he also received from Adeyanju was disrespectful to the parties and the court.

Tayo-Oyetibo told the court that he travelled from Lagos for the hearing and received the letter at Abuja airport on Tuesday.

He added that the letter appeared to refer to a different case, as it mentioned November 4 as against November 5, adding that despite their assumption that the hearing date was November 4, neither Sowore nor his lawyer came to court.

Tayo-Oyetibo claimed that Sowore has accused him on social media of taking side with the Federal Government against him.

The second defendant’s lawyer said he was not objecting to the prosecution’s application for a bench warrant.

Lawyer to X Incorp, Christabel Ndokwelu said her client has not been properly served with the charge, though it was served with a notice November 5 hearing.

Ndokwelu urged the court to direct the prosecution to ensure proper service and said his client was not ready for arraignment.

Following Ndokwelu’s claim, Justice Mohammed Umar went through the court’s file and found that Facebook and X were served electronically.

Ruling, Justice Umar noted that there was no need to rush and declined to issue the bench warrant sought by the prosecution.

The judge directed the prosecution to serve Ndokwelu with a copy of the charge in the courtroom.

He ordered that Sowore’ should be served with a hearing notice and adjourned till December 2 for arraignment.

Tinubu writes Reps, seeks N1.15tr borrowing approval to fund 2025 budget deficit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives seeking approval for a borrowing programme of ₦1.15 trillion to fund the 2025 budget deficit.

In a letter addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas dated October 31, 2025, the President explained the request became necessary to bridge the unfunded deficit arising from an increase in the total budget size by the National Assembly.

The letter was read during plenary on Wednesday by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie, who presided.

Tinubu noted that while the National Assembly passed a ₦59.99 trillion budget, an increase of ₦5.25 trillion from the ₦54.74 trillion earlier proposed by the Executive, this adjustment created a budget deficit of ₦14.10 trillion.

However, the borrowing plan approved in the budget amounted to ₦12.95 trillion, leaving an unfunded gap of ₦1.15 trillion.

“In view of the foregoing, it is necessary to increase the domestic borrowing limit in the 2025 budget by ₦1,147,462,863,321.39 to close this gap,” the President wrote.

The President’s request, which was made in line with Section 44 (1–2) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, seeks the National Assembly’s approval to establish the borrowing programme in the domestic debt market.

Tinubu expressed confidence in the lawmakers’ prompt consideration of the request, assuring them of his “highest consideration and personal regards.”

The letter was referred to the Committee on Aids, Loans and Budget Management for further legislative action.
