Tinubu commissions 100 housing units for widows in Kaduna

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned 100 housing units for widows in Kaduna, under the presidential initiative to construct houses for vulnerable women in every ward of Nigeria, as part of efforts to uplift widows and orphans across the country.

The President, while commissioning the project in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable, people-centred development that empowers Nigerians to achieve lasting prosperity beyond housing and basic infrastructure.

Represented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, President Tinubu said the initiative was part of a grassroots-driven development plan designed to address local needs and uplift vulnerable Nigerians in all 8,889 wards nationwide.

He explained that the Federal Government’s approach allows each community to identify its own priorities and economic opportunities for targeted intervention. “While some communities may prioritise housing, others may require agricultural support, skills development, or business expansion,” he said.

Tinubu noted that though ongoing economic reforms are challenging, they are laying the foundation for a stronger and more inclusive economy.

He assured that the benefits would be reinvested in programmes that promote social welfare and uplift households nationwide. “This project is about hope, compassion, and opportunity, ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of circumstance, has access to a decent home and a fair chance to thrive,” he said.

National Coordinator of the Adashe Women Society, Dr. Umma Sani, cimmended President Tinubu for launching a programme that directly impacts widows and orphans, describing it as the first of its kind in Nigeria’s history.

She said the Adashe Women Empowerment Society has long championed the cause of vulnerable women through skills training, entrepreneurship, and cooperative support, adding that the free housing initiative complements their mission to uplift and empower disadvantaged women across the country.

According to her, the Tinubu administration is the first to provide free homes to widows without financial commitment, a move she said would restore dignity and stability to countless women. Dr. Sani assured the President and Governor Uba Sani that Nigerian women would continue to support leaders who prioritise their welfare and empowerment.

She urged beneficiaries to take full ownership of the homes and use them as foundations for rebuilding their lives, improving family wellbeing, and contributing to their communities. “This is not just a house; it is a new beginning for every woman who has struggled without shelter and stability,” she said.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani in his address commended President Tinubu for selecting Kaduna among the first states to benefit from the free housing scheme, describing the gesture as a testament to the administration’s compassion and inclusivity.

He said the initiative would not only provide shelter but also rebuild hope among women who have endured years of hardship. “This project represents more than housing, it represents dignity, stability, and renewed confidence for our women,” the governor said.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, praised the collaboration that made the project possible, noting that it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to affordable, quality homes through innovative construction and strong partnerships.

Chairman of Family Homes Funds Limited, Mr. Ademola Adebise, described the project as “a symbol of renewed hope and restored dignity,” particularly for the 100 widows empowered through the initiative.

He said the partnership between the Federal Government, Adashe Women Society, and Family Homes Funds demonstrates how inclusive collaboration can turn policy commitments into real social impact for citizens.

Nigeria will emerge stronger amid Trump’ threats – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria will emerge stronger amid recent threats from U.S. President, Donald Trump, assuring that the matter is being handled with seriousness and depth.

‎Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated the President’s  position on Tuesday, after a routine meeting with the Nigerian leader at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

‎Idris said the President remained calm while deploying a multi-pronged strategy to address Washington’s concerns through dialogue, coordination, and transparency.

‎He emphasised that the Federal Government prioritised constructive engagement over inflammatory rhetoric, adding that new communication channels had been opened with international organisations to deepen understanding of Nigeria’s reforms and future strategies.

‎”Of course, the issue of the U.S. threats came up, and we discussed that extensively with Mr President.

“He is calm and looking for ways to ensure that the international community understands what Nigeria has been doing.

“Only two weeks ago, Mr President reinvigorated the hierarchy of the Armed Forces with the appointment of new service chiefs.

“These were steps already taken before the U.S. concerns, showing that he has been working assiduously to keep Nigeria safer for all,” Idris said.

‎The minister explained that work is ongoing across relevant agencies to address domestic and international concerns through sustained dialogue and a commitment to tolerance, security, and national cohesion.

‎He said the President has continued to meet with Christian and Muslim leaders to strengthen unity among Nigerians of all faiths.

‎“It is a multiple approach. Mr President has been meeting with religious leaders and will continue to do so because they are important stakeholders in the Nigerian project,” he said.

‎Idris reaffirmed that President Tinubu would sustain active engagement with the international community, including the United States, regional, and continental bodies, to strengthen cooperation in addressing security challenges and correcting misconceptions about Nigeria.

‎He noted that the government remained determined to eliminate criminal elements whose actions had contributed to negative global narratives about the country.

‎”For us to be characterised as a country that is intolerant of religion is absolutely false.

“What we have are extremists trying to divide the country. Nigerians must look deeper and reflect on our unity.

‎“This is not the time for division or rhetoric but a time for nation-building.

“Mr President is calm and taking the issue seriously. All relevant authorities are addressing it with the depth it requires, and we believe Nigeria will come out stronger,” Idris said.

‎He explained that his meeting with the President was part of routine consultations aimed at aligning government communication strategies with presidential directives.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Donald Trump of U.S. had threatened to carry out attacks in Nigeria in response to alleged anti-Christian violence.

The U.S. President said he instructed the recently renamed Department of War to “prepare for possible action”.

‎In a social media post on Saturday, he said the United States would immediately cut off all assistance to Nigeria “if the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians”.

Tinubu seeks fresh ₦1.15trn domestic loan to fund 2025 budget deficit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday urged the Senate to consider and approve a fresh request of  ₦1.15 trillion borrowing from the domestic debt market to finance the deficit in the 2025 budget.

The request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

According to Tinubu, the proposed borrowing is aimed at bridging the funding gap and ensuring full implementation of government programmes and projects outlined in the 2025 Fiscal Plan.

The letter reads in part: “I write to kindly request for the approval of the National Assembly to establish a N1,150,000,000.00 borrowing program in the domestic debt market to close the unfunded deficit gap created by the increase in the budget size over and above the prior approved revenue and borrowing plans.

“This request is pursuant to the provisions of Section 44, Subsection 1 to 2 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, FRA, of 2007, which requires the approval of the National Assembly for all new borrowings by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“The distinguished President of the Senate may wish to note that the National Assembly passed a budget of N59.9 trillion, an increase of N5.25 trillion from the N49.74 trillion budget proposal by the Executive.

“This increase created a budget deficit of N14 trillion. However, the proposed borrowing approved in the budget was N12.95 trillion, which occasioned an unfunded deficit of N1.1 trillion.

“It is therefore necessary to increase the domestic borrowing limit in the 2025 budget by N1.147 trillion to close this gap.

“Based on the foregoing, I wish to request for the approval of the Senate for the establishment of a $1,150,000,000 Naira borrowing program in the domestic debt market to close the unfunded 2025 budget deficit gap.

“A specimen of the approval required for this purpose is attached as an extra tool.”

After reading the letter. Akpabio referred the request to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt, chaired by Senator Aliyu Wammako (APC, Sokoto North), for further legislative work and to report back within one week.

  • NCSCN urges Tinubu to appoint Ambassadors, dismisses claims of Christian genocide

NCSCN urges Tinubu to appoint Ambassadors, dismisses claims of Christian genocide

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently appoint Ambassadors to key countries and establish a national framework for international lobbying, saying that the prolonged delay in such appointments was weakening Nigeria’s diplomatic and foreign relations.

The Council made the call in a communiqué after an emergency national meeting in Abuja.

The meeting, which drew more than 310 associations from across the country, had equal representation of Christian, Muslim and traditional religious leaders.

According to the document signed by the Chairman, Communiqué Drafting Committee, Mazi Oscar Kalu, and others, the meeting was convened to address growing international tension and media reports alleging a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, as well as increasing criticism of the Federal Government’s failure to appoint ambassadors almost two years after recalling the previous envoys.

The Council observed that there is no authentic and accessible national database containing verified statistics on victims of terrorists and bandits attacks, categorised by gender, age and religion.

This, it said, has resulted in unverifiable claims and widespread speculation, which have fuelled misleading narratives within and outside the country.

The Council described as erroneous the impression being circulated in international circles that terrorists and bandits are targeting Christians and Christian communities, noting that available evidence shows that Muslims and Islamic communities are equally, and in some cases more, affected by such attacks.

The NCSCN accused some political actors of deliberately politicising insecurity to overheat the polity and gain undue advantage.

The communiqué expressed concerns over Nigeria’s diplomatic vacuum, lamenting that nearly two years into President Tinubu’s administration, the country has no appointed ambassadors to even strategic nations such as the United States of America.

It stated that this situation has resulted in poor diplomatic relations, weakened foreign policy management, and left Nigeria vulnerable to manipulations by world powers.

The group warned that the absence of ambassadors has hindered communication and lobbying efforts between Nigeria and other countries, particularly the United States, thereby worsening current diplomatic tensions.

It cited the recent international outcry over alleged religious persecution and threats of sanctions as examples of challenges that could have been better managed through active diplomatic engagement.

The Council also lamented the absence of a deliberate framework for international lobbying since the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, noting that effective lobbying is essential in promoting Nigeria’s interests and image among nations and multinational organisations.

It emphasised that ambassadors play a vital role in representing Nigeria’s interests abroad, promoting trade and investment, and fostering mutual understanding between nations.

The absence of such representatives, it said, has left a significant gap in Nigeria’s global influence, hampered its ability to attract investment, and left citizens abroad more vulnerable in times of crisis.

The Council recommended that the Federal Government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, immediately commence the documentation and harmonisation of verified data on terrorist and bandit attacks to aid accurate reporting and reduce misinformation. It also urged the government to convene an inter-religious dialogue to address the issue of alleged Christian genocide and calm rising tensions.

The Council demanded that President Tinubu submit a list of Ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation before the end of November 2025, stressing that the continued delay was unjustifiable and detrimental.

It also called for the development of a national framework for strategic international lobbying, to be handled by competent diplomats and experienced professionals.

“The Foreign Relations and Policies of a country are crucial to its national development. Therefore, the Nigerian Government must not take the current situation of accusation of Christian genocide for granted. The assertions from the international community, especially America, must be handled professionally, with the highest level of diplomacy and caution, by confronting the matter with verifiable facts and figures.

“In addition, running a nation for over two years without ambassadors to nations is both unthinkable and highly detrimental to any government. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must know that no reason is good enough or can well justify the inability of his administration to appoint ambassadors after two years in government,” the communiqué reads.

Tinubu is a meticulous economic planner, says Reps Deputy Spokesman

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s capacity to prudently manage Nigeria’s resources, describing him as a meticulous economic planner committed to rebuilding the nation’s financial stability.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Agbese said Nigerians should not be alarmed by recent external borrowing approvals, assuring that under President Tinubu’s leadership, every loan would be judiciously used for its intended purpose.

Agbese, who represents Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency of Benue State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks following the recent approval by both chambers of the National Assembly for the Federal Government to raise $2.347 billion from the international capital market.

The loan is intended to part-finance the 2025 budget deficit and refinance maturing Eurobonds.

The House of Representatives granted approval after considering the report of the Committee on Aids, Loans, and Debt Management, chaired by Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba (APC, Nasarawa). According to the report, the borrowing plan comprises $1.23 billion to fund the 2025 budget deficit and $1.12 billion to refinance Eurobonds maturing in November 2025.

The committee explained that the funds would be sourced from the international capital market through Eurobond issuance, loan syndication, bridge financing, or direct borrowing from multilateral institutions.

Lawmakers also approved the issuance of Nigeria’s first-ever Sovereign Sukuk of up to $500 million in the international capital market — a landmark initiative expected to attract Islamic-compliant investors and diversify the country’s external borrowing portfolio.

While some Nigerians have expressed concerns over the country’s growing public debt and the prudence of loan utilisation, Agbese maintained that President Tinubu’s record speaks for itself.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not an ordinary politician; he is a tested economic strategist who has demonstrated exceptional prudence in resource management. His record as Lagos State Governor remains a model of how strategic planning and fiscal discipline can transform a region into an economic powerhouse,” he said.

The lawmaker said the President’s approach to governance is guided by a clear development blueprint aimed at strengthening key sectors, stimulating job creation, and driving sustainable growth.

“Mr. President knows what he is doing. He doesn’t take decisions impulsively. Every borrowing plan under this administration is carefully thought out, with clear repayment frameworks and measurable developmental outcomes. Nigerians can trust his sense of judgment,” Agbese added.

He also commended the Tinubu administration’s fiscal and monetary reforms, noting that they are already yielding positive results.

“From stabilising the exchange rate to restoring investor confidence, we are beginning to see the results of a visionary leader who understands both local and global economics. These are not accidental successes — they are the product of meticulous planning and consistent follow-through,” he said.

Agbese further lauded the National Assembly for maintaining a constructive partnership with the executive arm to ensure that all borrowings are properly scrutinised and linked to tangible development projects.

“As representatives of the people, we have a duty to ensure transparency and accountability. But with President Tinubu at the helm, there’s no cause for fear. His track record in transforming Lagos into Africa’s fifth-largest economy speaks volumes about his capacity to deliver,” he noted.

The Benue-born lawmaker said the President’s economic vision extends beyond short-term relief, emphasising long-term sustainability, industrial expansion, and infrastructural renewal.

“What President Tinubu is building is not just for today but for the future. The Renewed Hope Agenda is about repositioning Nigeria to compete globally, reduce import dependency, and create jobs for millions of young Nigerians,” he stated.

Agbese urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the administration’s reform measures, assuring that the current sacrifices will yield lasting benefits.

“No doubt, President Tinubu will utilise every loan for the purpose it was intended. He is meticulous, visionary, and deeply committed to Nigeria’s prosperity. This is the kind of leadership our nation has long desired, and it is one we must all rally behind,” he said.

    • Fed Govt conclude plans to recruit 23,000 health workers
    • Minister apologises to Nigerians over impact of industrial actions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to take urgent steps to end the ongoing strike by members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and ensure their immediate return to duty.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, announced the presidential directive, which underscores the administration’s concern over the disruption of medical services nationwide, while addressing reporters yesterday in Abuja.

Salako, who apologised to Nigerians affected by the industrial action, said the President had mandated the ministry to do “everything possible and legitimate” to bring the striking doctors back to work.

“On behalf of myself, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, and all management staff of the ministry, we regret the inconvenience caused to Nigerians who could not access healthcare in the last 48 hours due to the strike,” he said.

“Mr. President has expressly directed that we must ensure the resident doctors resume work without delay.”

The minister explained that the Federal Government had been in active engagement with NARD leaders to address their grievances, which included 19 separate demands.

He recalled that the dispute stemmed from a circular issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) in July, which divided health workers. Some professional groups accepted its provisions while others protested, prompting the ministry to seek a review.

According to him, the circular was later withdrawn to pave the way for a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) process that began in August to harmonise discussions among all health unions, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).

Since August, Salako said, the CBA committee had met 12 times, but two major issues – remuneration relativity and the appointment of non-doctor health workers as consultants – sparked disagreements, leading to a temporary suspension of talks.

The ministry, he added, had engaged a professor of industrial relations as an external negotiator to resolve the contentious matters.

“That negotiator has met the three unions and submitted an interim report. We’ve reconvened to deliberate further, and government is now preparing recommendations for the CBA,” Salako stated.

He noted that despite the standing CBA rule against industrial action during negotiations, several meetings had been held with NARD to address their concerns, including financial arrears, manpower shortages, and working conditions.

Commenting on the state of manpower in the sector, Salako said over 14,000 health workers were recruited in 2024, while the process for another 23,000 workers across 78 federal health institutions had been approved for 2025.

He announced that the President had approved the upward review of retirement age for clinical health workers to 65 years and released N21.3 billion for payment of outstanding arrears, with 60 per cent already disbursed.

The minister maintained that the government was committed to sustainable reforms in the health sector and urged all stakeholders to cooperate for lasting industrial harmony.

“There is no slow progress,” he said. “We are taking our time to ensure that every step we take is sustainable. The health sector works as a team, no cadre can function effectively in isolation,” he said.
